This Owl is Either Really Adorable or Really Ambitious

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 11:05 AM PST

What you see in this video might depend on whether you see the good or bad in most situations, or just what kind of Saturday you’re having. You could chose to see just another unlikely but wildly adorable animal friendship, with the owl loving stroking the dog’s fur. Or you could see a bird on a mission, stretching his claws, nibbling here and there, sizing up the biggest, meatiest rodent he’s ever seen. Happy Saturday!

Kim Kardashian Decides She Needs More Good Karma

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 07:53 AM PST

Kim Kardashian seems to be going on a holiday good deed-spree. Around Thanksgiving she grabbed a ladle and served food to the homeless of LA, and now she’s taking her mission of good will on the road; this week she traveled to Haiti with Kris Jenner and Maria Bello. It’s like girl’s night out, but with humanitarian efforts instead of mani-pedis.

Bello’s link to the relief efforts in Haiti are clear, a charity she helped found called We Advance runs a women’s clinic in the country. Kim’s connection to the work being done there is a little more hazy. Radar reports Kim traveled to Haiti to, “help bring more attention to the ongoing problems in Haiti.” So, she’s going to tweet about it? Make a Help Haiti Tumblr? Increasing awareness about a country that’s still in need of our help is great, but if Kim really wants to get some brownie points, I hope she helped with some on the ground efforts like rebuilding or handing out food as well.

For Young Adult Six Up Coming Young Adult Books to Get Excited About

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 07:21 AM PST

In Young Adult, released yesterday, Charlize Theron plays a rather mean-spirited, rude YA author. In my experience, however, YA authors are pretty sweet; gladly writing guest posts for book bloggers and genuinely excited to meet fans. In honor of the movie here are five YA books coming out in 2012 that will be worth checking out.

Lionsgate Confirms The Hunger Games Nail Polish

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 07:22 AM PST

After weeks of leaked info and denials, Lionsgate is finally giving us a clear answer about its rumored collaboration on a Hunger Games nail polish: It’s a go! The studio is indeed partnering with China Glaze to release a line of polishes inspired by the dystopian movie. However, according to the press release, the colors are inspired only by the Capitol — where Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) do interviews and win over the crowds before going into the Games themselves — and not District 12:

In keeping with the powerful themes and messages of the story, the collection of nail polish will be inspired exclusively by one of the book's distinct settings—the Capitol of the nation of Panem. Awash in lavish fashion, food, and entertainment, Capitol citizens enjoy extreme cosmetics and body modifications, bold wigs, and outlandish costumes.

Interestingly, this change resembles the strategy that io9 suggested a week or so ago: To play off the Capitol’s insane beauty standards and market the polish as part of Katniss’ makeover that she receives in the movie. Now the question is whether the official line will have colors like Octavia’s pea-green skin dye and the scary magenta makeup worn by Elizabeth Banks as Effie, or if they’ll stick with basically the bottom row in the original leaked photo. Update: A rep tells us that the original colors that got leaked are not being used anymore; they’ll be announcing the new colors soon.

So it sounds like Lionsgate and China Glaze (or its parent company, American International Industries) are no longer fighting. Since the lawsuit that American was bringing against Lionsgate was about the studio not acknowledging the partnership, all seems to be hunky-dory now that they’ve sent out a press release.

The collection will be available in stores on March 1, 2012, just a few weeks before the movie hits theaters.

The Ladies Of Bridesmaids Rock Tuxedos As ‘Entertainers Of The Year’

Posted: 09 Dec 2011 03:03 PM PST

Opinions were divided over the official Bridesmaids poster, which featured stars Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and the rest of the ensemble in traditionally ugly frilly pink dresses. We’re gonna bet that the public much prefers this photo, with the supremely funny ladies dressed sharply in that other wedding staple, a tuxedo.

As with the dresses, each lady has a slightly different tux. Kristen’s pants/gown combination is a little confusing (similar deal with Rose Byrne), but Melissa McCarthy and Wendi McLendon-Covey look smashing. However, my personal favorite might be Ellie Kemper‘s all-velvet getup.

All this because they got Entertainers of the Year from Entertainment Weekly. (Daniel Radcliffe did, too, but these ladies definitely give him a run for the money in the suit department.)

Celebrity Lookalikes: Rick Perry’s Anti-Gay Ad And Heath Ledger In Brokeback Mountain

Posted: 09 Dec 2011 02:36 PM PST

You would think that if Presidential candidate Rick Perry were to release an appallingly offensive ad wherein he talks about how it’s wrong for LGBT folk to serve openly in the military, he would’ve double-checked that he wasn’t dressing like one of these “gays” he so disdains. Tumblr user Carl Connor noticed that the jacket Perry wears in his campaign ad is almost identical to one sported by Heath Ledger in 2005′s ode to cowboy-on-cowboy love, Brokeback Mountain. The irony! It is so sweet.

Of course, a couple commenters have called out Carl for trying to make a big deal where there is none. Weakest argument ever, one wrote. It's a goddamn Carhartt jacket. Everyone [in Texas] has one. Maybe so, but you would’ve thought someone on Perry’s campaign would’ve seen Brokeback, remembered the costuming, and suggested that Perry buy the same jacket in one of the four other colors it comes in.

Old Spice Guy Isaiah Mustafa Is MANta Claus

Posted: 09 Dec 2011 02:35 PM PST

Old Space dude Isaiah Mustafa is back from some Christmas-themed shilling for Old Spice on YouTube, so if you ever wanted a personal video directed your way (we got one of those once!), now’s your chance. Just address your thoughts on over to MANta Claus, Old Spice’s sexy Saint Nick.

The video we’ve posted is addressed to Ellen DeGeneres and showcases some pretty seductive towel chomping (no, that’s not a horrible oral sex euphemism). I already use Old Spice deodorant (shut up, I know it isn’t ladylike), so I don’t need any more convincing, but shirtless Isaiah is always welcome anyway. Merry… ChristMAN.

Video: Neil Patrick Harris And David Burtka Sing ‘You’re The Top’ At Trevor Live

Posted: 09 Dec 2011 01:42 PM PST

How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris and his partner David Burtka (E!’s newest correspondent) were the most talked-about act at Sunday’s Trevor Live! benefit. The show raises funds for the Trevor Project and also featured performances from Glee star Darren Criss and Modern Family‘s Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Even Lady Gaga accepting an award was small beans compared to NPH and David singing “You’re the Top,” a Cole Porter song from the musical “Anything Goes.” The song was intended to be sung with a man and a woman, so with two men — who are real-life partners — combined with the title, there were plenty of double entendres. But Neil and David played along to that, which made for a pretty rousing performance.
