Michelle Williams at the Oscar nominees luncheon: adorable or too precious?

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 08:38 AM PST

Here are more photos from yesterday's Oscar nominees luncheon in Beverly Hills. I always think this must be one of the best events during the awards season – you don't have to wear a gown, you don't have to pose on a red carpet, you get to eat lunch with friends and other talented people, and you pose for a big "class photo" at the end. It seems more low-key, and as such, it's never a big fashion event. Still, it's nice to look at the photos. First off, here's Michelle Williams, back to her beloved pale colors and Mia Farrow-in-1973-styling. Michelle is actually wearing a Victoria Beckham dress! Eh, I still don't like it on Michelle.

I love Glenn Close's face, and I love her talent. I'm happy she was nominated for an Oscar this year. But dear God, that is one ugly coat.

I love this color on Melissa McCarthy.

Can we talk about how great Meryl Streep looks? She's so beautiful. I love her hair these days, and Meryl isn't a hair person. This look is perfection except for the panty hose-with-open-toe shoes thing.

I actually like Rooney Mara's outfit here. The blazer is Thierry Mugler and the jumpsuit is Asos. The pants need to lose an inch or two, though.

Viola in too-bright Juan Carlos Obando. I love her in bright colors, but this is just too "look at me!" for my tastes.

Octavia Spencer looks great here. I love her hairstyle!

And here's a little Demian Bichir, because I haven't been paying enough attention to him. He's fine, isn't he?

Lindsay Lohan’s latest cracked-out Terry Richardson photo shoot: sad & pathetic?

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 08:09 AM PST

Terry Richardson (otherwise known as "Uncle Terry" or "Pervert Terry") just published a photo shoot with Lindsay Lohan, taken at the Chateau Marmont. LL is back to living at the Marmont, you know. She moved out of her Venice Beach crack den, and now she's living (working) out of the Marmont, where sources say she back to her old tricks and then some. Some say she hooking, some say she's just giving it away as some kind of cracked-out tit-for-tat for work or drugs. God knows. You can always count on Terry Richardson to exploit it, though.

Uncle Terry did a photo shoot with the Cracken for Love Magazinewe saw the photos yesterday. Some say she was trying to do Marilyn Monroe once again, but I tend to think she was just doing herself, I guess. In this set of photos, I guess LL is publicly campaigning for the part of Elizabeth Taylor still – in several of the shots, she's holding up the excellent book Furious Love, all about Taylor's love affair with Richard Burton. Allegedly, Megan Fox was also in the running, but Megan's camp seems to be shooting down those rumors, while Lindsay keeps telling people that the part is hers. Poor Elizabeth Taylor, being used like this by a crackhead. It makes me sick to my stomach. By the way, I'm just using the Richardson photos where LL is (relatively) clothed. If you go to Terry's Diary, you can get a look at plenty of shots of crack-nipple and meth-face. This whole photo shoot is just so… sad? Is that what it is? Or is it just pathetic?

Nick Carter missed his sister’s funeral because his family didn’t tell him about it

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 07:56 AM PST

Leslie Carter is the woman in the middle

We haven’t covered this story yet because it’s sad. Just thinking about it is getting me teary-eyed, particularly these latest details. Leslie Carter, 25, died at home with her parents last week from a reported overdose of prescription drugs to treat mental illness. Leslie is a member of the semi-famous Carter family that was featured in the “House of Carters” reality show on E! in 2006. She was married and leaves behind a 10 month-old daughter. TMZ reported that prior to her death Leslie was living with her family in upstate New York in an attempt to quit using medication she had become dependent on. Her family had left her alone for just an hour and when they returned she was unresponsive.

One of Leslie’s brothers, singer Nick Carter, 32, didn’t make it to her funeral over the weekend. He told TMZ that his family didn’t let him know when or where it was, and plus he had a concert to give. Nick also gave a statement to E! acknowledging the “complicated dynamic” in his family:

The show must go on? Former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter has missed his own sister’s funeral. The singer gave a concert in Philadelphia and hosted a party at an Atlantic City resort on Saturday night, the same evening that funeral proceedings were held for little sister Leslie Carter.

“I wanted to be at my sister’s funeral, but my family has always had a complicated dynamic. I love my family. I want to thank everyone for all of their compassion and support that I have received during this most difficult time. There are so many emotions for me surrounding the loss of my sister. I am trying to stay healthy, positive and focused,” Nick, 32, said in a statement to The Insider.

Separately, Carter told website TMZ that he had wanted to attend the funeral in New York (which was attended by brother Aaron), but that his family had not disclosed the details.

Leslie died suddenly on February 1 from a reported overdose of prescription drugs meant to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Stepmother Ginger Carter told the police that the 25-year-old Leslie had a “long history of mental illness” and that she had appeared depressed the morning that she died.

“Our family is grieving right now and it’s a private matter,” a spokeswoman for the family had said in a statement after news broke. “We are deeply saddened for the loss of our beloved sister, daughter, and granddaughter, Leslie Carter. We request the utmost privacy during this time.”

The troubled Leslie appeared on the family’s reality show, “House of Carter,” in 2006 and aspired to be a singer like her famous older brothers.

[From Huffington Post]

At Nick’s concert he did dedicate a song to Leslie, and some audience members held up pink paper hearts for her. How sad that their family doesn’t get along well enough for Nick to go to his own sisters funeral, or is that a cop out because he was otherwise busy? Couldn’t he just have flown there, and would his family have turned him away at this time? This is tragic story, both in terms of a young woman dying and her family not pulling together after her death. I hope that Nick can reunite with his family somehow. I know in some families there’s just too much to overcome and that even a tragedy can’t make up for the past. With their history there’s probably more than one feud going on.

Duchess Kate gets back from vacation, then spends hours in the hair salon

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 07:40 AM PST

Duchess Kate has returned to England following her two-week Mustique vacation with her family. Prince William did join Kate for the vacation, he just came there days after she arrived. I yelled about the "tone-deaf" PR of the vacation, but in the end, I took some of it back. It was probably nice for William and Kate to get away together (with her family) before William's six-week training session in the Falklands. But don't think that Kate and William were trying to get pregnant during their vacation – British sources are still claiming that it will be another year before any royal baby-making goes down.

So William has officially left his duchess wife for the Falklands – I thought he was going to be on the base there, but People Mag says that he's serving on a warship. It's almost the 30th anniversary of the Falklands "conflict" (war), and there are some concerns that the UK and Argentina could be entering into another "conflict" – I don't know what William's presence means for the politics of the situation, but whatever happens, I seriously doubt William will see any war games or action. But that's the point of this story – as William departed for the Falklands, Kate returned to London. All of last week, while Kate was on vacation, the palace was telling every media outlet out there all about Kate's plans to do a mountain of charity work while William was away. So what did Kate do upon her return? She spent several hours at the hair salon. She went shopping. Seriously.

She’s known for her chic, yet affordable, wardrobe, but not every item in Kate Middleton’s closet is budget-friendly.

After returning from a Caribbean vacation — and saying goodbye to husband Prince William who’s currently serving in the Falklands — the Duchess of Cambridge, 30, was spotted in jeans, knee-high black boots and a gorgeous brown suede coat with fur lining in London on Monday. She carried her favorite Mulberry Small Polly Posh handbag in Midnight, which retails for $1,050.

Middleton first showed off the pricey purse back in June and took it on the royals’ North American tour during the summer.

For her first public outing since William’s departure, the style icon spent three hours at the Richard Ward salon and picked up groceries at Partridges.

[From Us Weekly]

ONLY three hours! Because Kate's hair is a national treasure! I mean, I'm sure she needed a visit to the salon because of all of the vacation wear-and-tear on her hair. I'm not saying she's an awful person because she spends hours in a hair salon. I'm just saying that the palace should really stop trying to convince us that Kate is so diligent, hard-working and "normal". She's just a spoiled rich girl who spends the bulk of her time on vacation, shopping or grooming herself. Also: CB just said that the only reason Kate would spend that much time in the salon is for extensions. I AGREE.

Oh, and here's a days-old story in The Mail that just cracked me up – it's all about how the Queen is trying to gently encourage Kate to, you know, do something.

The Duchess of Cambridge is being offered the perfect preparation for her life as a working Royal – a series of 'training sessions' with the Queen.

Kate will take on a handful of solo engagements while Prince William is overseas and will then tour the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Malaysia and Singapore with him in September.

Now the Queen, who ascended to the Throne 60 years tomorrow, has invited her to Buckingham Palace for regular chats to boost her confidence.

'The Queen has developed a great affection for Kate and wants her to feel fully supported,' says an insider. 'She knows how big a step carrying out official duties will be for Kate and has offered to have regular meetings to make sure she feels prepared.'

The 30-year-old Duchess is to accompany the Queen on two Diamond Jubilee engagements next month, and a courtier says: 'The Queen is taking a very close interest in the Duchess's development. The engagements they will carry out together promise to be invaluable learning opportunities for Kate, as well as being a real honour.'

[From The Mail]

I would love to know the Queen's real opinion of Kate. I remember hearing that the Queen was very pleased with Kate and William's royal tour of Canada, but beyond that, I have to wonder if the Queen is a bit displeased with what kind of a royal bride Kate is turning out to be. As the Queen would say, "We are not amused."

Brad Pitt & George Clooney’s bromance dominates the Oscar luncheon

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 06:48 AM PST

These are new photos of The Bromance of The Ages, Brad Pitt and George Clooney at yesterday's Oscar luncheon in Beverly Hills. Jonah Hill was around too – because he and Brad have been bromancing hard during their respective Oscar campaigns for Moneyball. But George swooped in to claim Brad, and thus, we have these photos. Brad and George were also talking about each other during their luncheon interviews too:

George Clooney and Brad Pitt are one of Hollywood’s most famous friendship pairings, but far from the general consensus they don’t actually get to hang out that much, it seems. What a delight then it was to see the two old pals catching up at the annual Oscars’ lunch, an exercise in PR ahead of the big awards themselves for sure, but also a chance for some of the busiest actors in the world to have a long overdue catch-up.

“A lot of people at home think we all hang out together. I think they think we’re always at the Hilton drinking champagne. The truth is I hadn’t seen Brad in about a year” said Clooney to reporters including The Press Association, “So it’s fun to catch up, and it’s fun to see people I like and haven’t seen in a long time.”

Of course everyone was waiting for a bit of vintage Clooney and Pitt horseplay and the latter duly obliged talking about meeting some of his fellow contenders for the coveted Best Actor award for the first time.

“I met this guy named George,” Pitt said, pretending to struggle with the pronunciation of the name, “G-g-george, Jorge Clooney. Very nice guy. Very personable and very nice guy.”

In all seriousness though, the lunch was a great way to meet some of the new faces the established pair were up against, with Clooney saying how much he’d enjoyed meeting the likes of ‘The Artist’s’ Jean Dujardin and ‘A Better Life’s’ DEMIAN BICHIR.

[From Contact Music]

It's funny to think that Brad Pitt and George Clooney are only two years apart in age. Brad is 48 – George is 50. Brad still has a boyishness about him, and although Anistonloonies are always complaining about how "bad" Brad looks these days, can't we all agree that he looks pretty damn good for 48? You could argue that George looks good for 50 too – although George has looked like this for the past 15 years, pretty much. Who looks better? They both look really good in these photos, but I’m liking Brad more these days. His hair looks great!

Rachel McAdams, bangsy at ‘The Vow’ premiere: the worst she’s ever looked?

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 06:14 AM PST

I've always thought that Rachel McAdams was adorable. She's super-cute, and she's one of those girl-women that will easily be able to play young(er) characters because of her inherent "cuteness". When she's 40, people will still think she's in her 20s, and she'll always have fans because she seems so "real" and like the cool girl who could be your neighbor. So it pains me to say this – Rachel McAdams doesn't know her own strengths, and she just torpedoed herself by styling herself like a 50-something Real Housewife. With that adorable, dimply face, with that great bone structure and that girl-next-door sex appeal, WHY in God's name did Rachel do this to her hair? It's not just the too-thick, too-long BANGS TRAUMA (full-on), it's also the cheap looking dye job, the horrible makeup, and the budget-looking Vivienne Westwood dress (that washes her out). Jesus, Rachel. Why did you do this to yourself?

So these are photos of The Vow premiere in LA last night. Maybe The Vow will be a hit movie for Rachel – even though it looks sappy and terrible, I suspect lots of women want to see it. Rachel's career choices are weird/bad enough – but does she have to do this to her personal, celebrity image too? God, she just looks like hell. She never really "wows" me on the red carpet, but some really good stylists need to offer Rachel their services.

Meanwhile, Channing Tatum looked fine. His wife Jenna was at his side too – I didn't care for her dress either (it looks like a reconfigured Victoria's Secret baby doll), but at least her styling doesn't make me want to cry and scream to the heavens.

84 lb model with 20″ waist claims she eats junk all day, nutritionists disagree

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 06:10 AM PST

Have you seen the story of the 30 year-old Romanian model with the 20 inch waist? Reports have her at either 5’6″ or 5’7″ tall and just 84 pounds. When Radar first ran a photo of her people were quick to say that the image was Photoshopped, but a google image search reveals that this model really does have a waist you could fit your hands around. I just found a video of her, above, and it’s jaw-dropping. The photos don’t do her justice at all. She’s some kind of medical anomaly and what’s more is that she claims that she eats three meals of junk food a day, but concedes that her stomach is so small she can’t eat much. A nutritionist consulted by Radar says it’s not likely that she eats much and that she should be eating healthier of course. Here are some of model Ioana Spangenberg’s quotes on her “hourglass” figure as well as Radar’s story:

Romanian model Ioana Spangenberg has a freakish figure: She has a natural 20-inch waist in contrast to her 32-inch hips. At 84 pounds and with her wide hips and tiny waist, the 30-year- old model has been dubbed by the UK’s The Sun newspaper as “the human hourglass.”

Spangenberg said she eats three square meals daily but cannot gain weight in her mid area. She said when she was 13 years old her waist was around 15 inches wide.

“Someone could put their hands around it, their fingers would touch and they would still have extra room,” she told The Sun.

“No one seems to believe it, but every day I eat three big meals and I snack on chocolate and crisps all the time,” Spangenberg added. “I just have a small stomach. It’s a bit like having a natural gastric band – if I eat too much, I feel sick.”

Spangenberg told the paper that when she was in her 20s she struggled with her self-esteem.

“In Romania it is better to be overweight, because that means you are from a wealthy family…so while my friends were going out and dating, I was sitting at home with Mars bars wishing I could fatten up,” she said. – From IBTimes.com

She may have a 20-inch waist but model Ioana Spangenberg could also have cellulite, digestive problems and risk the onset of early menopause, a Hollywood nutritionist tells RadarOnline.com exclusively.

Carolyn Scott-Hamilton has not treated the model, but has given her expert opinion on the Romanian's claims she snacks on junk food daily.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, despite 5ft 6 inch, 30-year-old Ioana only weighing 84 lbs, she insists she lives on a diet of chips, pizzas and kebabs.

"It's definitely possible that she's eating junk food every day but it depends how much," Carolyn says. "It could be a small handful of chocolate and potato chips throughout the day."

Even so, while Carolyn says the model could have a "super fast metabolism" eating a diet packed with junk food isn't good, even if you're skinny.

"If she's eating all that salt and sugar she's got to have cellulite," the expert says. "She risks having problems with her reproductive system, her digestive track, as well as onset diabetes because she is eating so much sugar."

Carolyn also says: "At 5ft 6 a healthy weight would be 130 lbs. But at 84 lbs that means she has very little to no muscle. It could mean she is so malnourished, starving even, that the muscles have atrophied causing the low weight."

Although Carolyn says it is possible for someone to naturally have a fast metabolism she says it is less likely if you're a 30-year-old woman.

"In order to be that thin, she would need to consume about 500 calories or less – about a quarter of a candy bar a day," she says. "A high metabolism doesn't work that well."

Last week Ioana told The Sun, a UK newspaper: "No one seems to believe it, but every day I eat three big meals and I snack on chocolate and crisps all the time. I just have a small stomach.” – Radar Online

[From IBTimes.com and Radar Online]

Other sources claim her diet consists of “toast with jam or eggs for breakfast and has a snack of chocolate and crisps around 12pm. Lunch [is] sausage, chicken and potatoes, while later in the day she fills up on bread, meat and cheese sandwiches.” It’s hard to believe that anyone who weighs 84 pounds and looks emaciated could be eating like that and snacking on potato chips and chocolate. I tend to side with the nutritionist – the woman must be exaggerating how much she eats. Maybe she’s got a medical condition that makes it impossible for her to gain weight, though. It happens and it’s not like she looks healthy at all. That kind of waist requires some extreme corseting, doesn’t it? I don’t even want to look that up, but I will. It turns my stomach to think of reducing your waist like that, it just looks abnormal and it doesn’t seem like it can be achieved without a small waist to start with. It reminds me of Chinese foot binding.

Beyonce & Jay-Z step out together for Jay’s Carnegie Hall charity concert

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 05:28 AM PST

We need to talk about this, but we don't have all of the photos. You need to GO HERE and HERE to see the new Beyonce pics. For the first time since giving birth (cough), Beyonce stepped out for a public appearance. She was supporting her husband's charitable work – Jay-Z and Bey were at Carnegie Hall for the first of two shows that Jay performed for to benefit the United Way of New York City and The Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. Bey wore red Alice Temperley and she looked… interesting. Little Blue Ivy was born just a few days short of a month ago, and Bey already has her figure back, of course. We can argue about whether her hips are bigger or whether she's always had those hips, but can we all agree that Beyonce's "post-pregnancy weight loss" has been spectacular? I mean… really? Here’s one photo from her outing:

During the Carnegie Hall show, Jay dedicated a version of "Glory" to Blue Ivy, telling the audience, "Put a hand in the air for Blue!" After the Carnegie Hall show, Bey and Jay went to his 40/40 club, where they partied for hours. Jay was also at the club for the Super Bowl too, although Bey didn't join him. Page Six reports that Jay "was spotted in a main floor booth, in plain view of the hundreds who packed the luxe sports bar's every cranny. Yankees hurler CC Sabathia and the Knicks' Carmelo Anthony appeared from a private viewing room upstairs to join Jay at his table. After the Giants prevailed, the crowd sang 'Empire State of Mind' in celebration."

TMZ: Tom Brady’s teammates “feel betrayed” by Gisele’s critical comments

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 04:33 AM PST

Yesterday, everybody was talking about Gisele Bundchen's post-Super Bowl comments. To be fair to Gisele, it's not like she spoke directly to a media outlet and publicly squawked about her husband's teammates. But, it wasn't like she was really trying to be gracious and hold her temper either. When she was heckled by some Giants fans, she was caught on camera telling a friend, "You have to catch the ball when you're supposed to catch the ball… My husband can not f–king throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times." Gisele to Patriots: EAT IT. Here's the video:

So even though this video made me slightly sympathetic towards Gisele (I like how emotionally invested she is in Tom's career), everyone was pretty much like "Gisele really shouldn't have thrown Tom's teammates under the bus like that." And thus, a TMZ follow-up story is born:

Gisele Bundchen should have kept her perfectly-shaped mouth shut last night — this according to multiple sources inside the Patriots organization, who claim the supermodel violated a “code of brotherhood” by bashing Tom Brady’s receivers.

Sources tell TMZ, the teammates are “disappointed” Gisele decided to air her grievances after the game last night — when she said, “My husband cannot f***ing throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so many times.”

According to sources, Tom’s teammates feel betrayed by Gisele’s behavior — the Pats organization is a brotherhood and Gisele’s pot shot violated the code — which is basically … win as a team, lose as a team.

As one source put it, “It’s like knocking someone when they are down.”

[From TMZ]

Thus far, the Patriots' spokesperson hasn't said anything (reporters note that the dude just shut his mouth and shook his head), but Pats defensive back James Ihedigbo told reporters, "You can’t point fingers at anybody. Wes made amazing plays all season. You win it as a team; you win it and lose it as a team. And we lost to a good football team.” So, what's the verdict: is Gisele a total bitch for throwing Tom's teammates under the bus, or are the Pats acting like big babies in the face of legit criticism?

Karl Lagerfeld: Adele is “a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face”

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 04:32 AM PST

Oh, Karl. I was all prepared to get super-mad at him for some unfortunate things he said about Adele, but once I read his full quote… I still love the old Anger-Bear. I actually think the Kaiser (the original Kaiser) is getting a little bit softer. Yes, he says that Adele is "a little too fat" but he cushions it with "she has a beautiful face and a divine voice." Does that make it better? Does "a little too fat" even count as an insult when it comes from Karl Lagerfeld? Do I have to be outraged on Adele's behalf when I think that FOR KARL, he was offering a very sincere compliment?

Anyway, enjoy this new interview with Karl – it's wonderful. He loves Michelle Obama, he thinks Russian women are beautiful and he actually says this wonderful line - "People in magazines are 50% bimbo and 50% pregnant women." PERFECTION.

Karl on the Queen’s Jubilee: I think [Queen Elizabeth] looks very good in her recent photos even better than a few years ago – beautiful, a bit like Queen Mary. She looks a little bit like her grandmother – a more smiley version. In terms of what she wears, she’s come into herself a little bit more – whatever that is.

Karl on the relevance of the monarchy: It’s good for the tourists because it brings a lot of money in. It’s totally unnecessary, but it’s pleasant. Why not have the monarchy? People can dream about it.

Karl on the Greek economic crisis: Greece needs to work on a cleaner image. It’s a big problem, as [Greeks] have this reputation of being so corrupt. You can’t be sure the money will go where it’s supposed to go. They need to build trust, and that takes time too. Nobody wants Greece to disappear, but they have really disgusting habits – Italy as well.

Karl on Syria: Some people say it will be worse if [President Assad] goes. It’s very difficult now to say. What he does is beyond awful. I think the man is frightening.

Karl on Lana del Rey: I prefer Adele and Florence Welch. But as a modern singer she is not bad. The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice. Lana del Rey is not bad at all. She looks very much like a modern-time singer. In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She’s not alone with implants.

Karl on women in Russia: If I was a woman in Russia I would be a lesbian, as the men are very ugly. There are a few handsome ones, like Naomi Campbell’s boyfriend, but there you see the most beautiful women and the most horrible men.

Karl on M.I.A. and her middle finger: Nowadays people give the middle finger quite quickly – it’s not the best behavior. Everybody does that, what’s new about that? It’s just become a bad habit. People in magazines are 50% bimbo and 50% pregnant women.

Karl on Barack Obama’s claim that he “deserves” to be re-elected: Yes he does, especially because of Mrs. Obama. I’m a big fan of Mrs. Obama – and her face, I think, is magical. He would not be there without her. Mrs. Obama is not a fashion statement, but she has other things to do. My favorite thing about Mrs Obama was when she was asked if her skirt was not too tight and she answered “Wh,y you don’t like my big black ass?” I want [Barack] Obama to win because there is nothing better anyway, and especially because of her.

Karl on voting: I never voted in my life. I will never vote. I know too much about politics from what’s going on backstage. To vote you have to believe all that garbage that they promise you, and they can’t keep those promises. If someone gave me an Obama pin, I would just put it on.

Karl on sustainable fashion: I don’t know what you consider as sustainable fashion. Do it, but don’t make a subject out of it. It’s a little bit boring.

Karl on political correctness: Be politically correct, but don’t become a bore for that. People should be sensitive in these matters, but not make so much noise. Be politically correct, but do we have to know your opinion?

[From Metro]

I have to wonder if his comments about M.I.A.'s one-finger salute aren't also about his recent encounter with Kristen Stewart – she was photographed flipping the bird in front of Karl"Nowadays people give the middle finger quite quickly – it’s not the best behavior. Everybody does that, what’s new about that? It’s just become a bad habit." That's Karl's way of telling K-Stew and M.I.A. to sit down and STFU.

But seriously, doesn't he sound nicer in this interview? What's going on with him lately? Did he steal the soul of optimistic youth?
