Watch: ‘Live On Letterman’, Gorillaz In Concert

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 02:40 PM PDT

The animated band Gorillaz made up of real-life artists Damon Albarn, Jamie Hewlett, et al paid a visit to the Edward Sullivan Theater in NYC, NY this week to perform on The Late Show with David Letterman:

But … Gorillaz weren’t content with just one performance of one song, no siree, they went on to perform a full 45 minute concert — which you can watch in full, after the jump …

I am a HUGE Gorillaz fan … but I do not want to watch this concert. I have tix to see the band play LIVE here in LA in a couple of weeks so I’m going to hold off on watching this concert performance until after I see them perform in a couple of weeks. BUT, by all means, check out this video for yourselves. I saw Gorillaz in concert many moons ago in Toronto, Ontario when they toured in support of their debut album. I am DYING to see the band live in concert again. Happy Friday, Enjoy!!

Joel Madden & Harlow Winter Kate Go Hand In Hand

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 02:22 PM PDT

You ready for some cuteness? Daddy Joel Madden escorted his adorable daughter Harlow Winter Kate out of a family dinner date at the California Pizza Kitchen here in SoCal this week and this PRECIOUS photo was snapped:

How happy does Harlow look to be holding her daddy’s hand? I’m dying. Seriously, not many celeb kiddies make my fictional ovaries ache but, yeah, Harlow does it for me every time. So cute, yeah?

First Look: Tina Fey, ‘Bossypants’

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 02:14 PM PDT

Comedienne, actress, screenwriter and now author Tina Fey is about to release her first book titled Bossypants … and here is our first look at the horrifying coverphoto for the book. I apologize in advance for any nightmares that may come from your viewing said coverphoto:

This first look at Bossypants, due for release in April 2011, was snapped at the Frankfurt Book Fair and immediately posted to the Internets. I’m certain that the manly arms are meant to be funny … but, to me, they are merely frightening. I have no doubt that Tina Fey can be a fantastic author but this photo … I can’t even. OY! What do y’all think? Is it fair to judge a book by this cover?

Watch: The Trailer For William Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 02:01 PM PDT

William Shakespeare‘s magical play The Tempest, long-believed to be the last play he ever wrote, is coming to the big screen in a visionary new incarnation which was directed by the amazing Julie Tamor. In this version of The Tempest, the lead character Prospero has been turned into Prospera … played by Helen Mirren. Here are a few screencaps from the new promo video trailer:

While The Tempest is not one of the Shakespeare plays that I know best (I think I read it in high school or college, but only once) I am a big fan of new films based on Willy‘s legendary plays. I’ve spoken before about some of my fave movie adaptations (films based on MacBeth, Hamlet, Richard III, Much Ado about Nothing, Romeo and Juliet to name but a few) and this new incarnation of The Tempest looks really damn good. Helen Mirren is THE QUEEN and I am very much looking forward to seeing her take on the usually male role of the magician Prospero and making it her own. After the jump, check out the trailer and see for yourselves …

Blah. As much as I loathe Russell Brand, I think I might have to overlook his inclusion as best I can and see this film anyways. I’m of the mind that not enough people appreciate Shakespeare for the genius he was. All controversy aside (did he write his plays, etc.), the body of work attributed to him helped shape the English language … not only that, he tells a damn good story. I am really looking forward to seeing The Tempest. This trailer, Russell Brand notwithstanding, has really got me excited.

First Look: Daniel Radcliffe On ‘The Simpsons’

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 01:29 PM PDT

We’ve seen castmembers from Glee on The Simpsons as well as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg on The Simpsons … and today we get our first look at Daniel Radcliffe on The Simpsons. DanRad will be a part of the annual Treehouse of Horror Hallowe’en Special that The Simpsons do every year … but instead of Dan portraying his Harry Potter character, he’ll be doing his version of Edward Cullen from Twilight:

First, I love the Treehouse of Horror eps that The Simpsons do every year … even if they always air after Hallowe’en. Second, I cannot WAIT to see DanRad‘s interpretation of Robert Pattinson‘s Edward Cullen. This photo alone rules … I cannot wait to see the ep. What do y’all think? Any Simpsons fans in the hiz? Does this not look amazingly awesome?

The Ralph Lauren Big Pony Dinner Party & Concert

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 01:07 PM PDT

Last night David and I were kindly invited to the Chateau Marmont as guests of Ralph Lauren for the launch event for their new line of fragrances called The Big Pony Collection. Unlike other launch event parties, last night’s affair was a full on dinner party with folks from Ralph Lauren as well as the band One Republic:

The whole night was just a lot of fun. After cocktail hour, we were led up to the photobooth room where we filmed a short 7 second video that got turned into a flip book! So fun!! Then we were treated to a 4 course meal of deliciousness with each course introduced by a different member of the band:

For dinner, David and I were seated next to One Republic guitarist Zack Filkins who was so charming, so nice to talk to … ’twas a very fun night. After the jump, check out some photos from dinner as well as photos and video from One Republic‘s acoustic set last night …

The new promo campaign video for The Big Pony Collection was shot by the famed Bruce Weber and features the song Secrets by One Republic. Secrets was among the songs they performed last night:

Here is video of the band’s performance of Secrets:

And here is the Bruce Weber directed promo video for the Ralph Lauren Big Pony Fragrance Collection:

I’ve been a big fan of Ralph Lauren cologne for years … yes, I was among the young cads who wore Polo in junior high. More recently, tho, I’m a big fan of Polo Black cologne. There are 4 new fragrances in The Big Pony Collection so David and I are now set for life on smelling good :) Much love goes out to Robbie and his team for taking such great care of us last night. The intimate nature of last night’s even made for a very special evening … David and I had a lot of fun.

Tonight, my friend Josh and I are going to the El Rey Theater to see Liz Phair live in concert. She is among my fave singer/songwriters EVER so I’m really excited for the show. It’s the weekend, y’all … have a great one!!

More Unreleased Photos Of Michael Jackson For Sale

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 11:45 AM PDT

Back in June we learned about a one of a kind auction of previously unreleased photographs of Michael Jackson shot by photographer Arno Bani. As the auction date draws nearer, we get to check out another of the famed photos of the late King of Pop that will go on the auction block in December:

The photo above is titled The Spinx and it will be included in the auction being orchestrated by Pierre Bergé & Associés in early December. Now, in case you’re interested in placing your bid for these in-demand photographs you might want to check out The Spinx from the front, right? After the jump, check it out …

I fully expect that these photos will be sold for a very pretty penny … so start saving now! Even if you’re not planning to place a bid to own these photos … what do you think of them? I much prefer this photo to the one we saw last June. Do you like The Sphinx?

Colin Farrell Pays A Visit To ‘Sesame Street’

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 11:19 AM PDT

The new season of Sesame Street is already in full swing and even tho Katy Perry (and her heaving bosom) are persona non grata folks like Oprah Winfrey have already been featured on the iconic children’s TV series. In addition to Her Holy Oprahness, salty actor Colin Farrell has also been welcomed to Sesame Street … for some strange reason:

He’s known for his colourful language, womanising ways and love of the drink. But despite his hellraiser reputation, Colin Farrell was bizarrely picked by TV bosses to make a guest appearance on children’s show Sesame Street. It comes just weeks after producers of the hit American programme pulled scenes of Katy Perry after a YouTube video of her in the sketch, wearing a very low cut dress, attracted complaints from parents who deemed her attire too racy. In the skit, Irish-born Farrell, 34, and some of the puppet characters investigated the word ‘investigate’. Murray the Monster seemed most impressed with the actor, telling Farrell he was ‘tall and handsome’ and ‘pretty smart’. Farrell has said filming the guest spot was one of the high-points of his career. ‘I did a scene with Elmo and a couple of the other characters,’ he says. ‘The word of the day was “investigation.” We did a scene with a couple of talking carrots,’ he explained, before adding, ‘and shit. It was genius!’

I mean … what? It doesn’t really make much sense to me to put Colin Farrell on a kids show like this particularly because there isn’t much to gain on Sesame Street‘s part. I can see how Colin might love to be on the show, especially since he is a father of young sons. My guess is that the told him the word of the day was Investigate which he misheard as Inebriate and thought, Yeah … I can handle that. In all honesty, the clip is kinda cute. Check it out in full, after the jump …

Colin on Sesame Street may not make too much sense … but you gotta admit, he’s a charming bugger, ain’t he? I wonder what other saucy celebs Sesame Street plans to invite to appear on their show in upcoming eps.

Captain Jack Sparrow Shows Up To Lead A Primary School Mutiny

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 10:45 AM PDT

Meridian Primary School student Beatrice Delap penned a letter to Captain Jack Sparrow, star of the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, asking him to come to her UK school to help orchestrate a student mutiny against the teachers. Much to everyone’s surprise, including Beatrice‘s, Captain Jack Sparrow showed up at her school to satisfy her request in person. Here is a photo of Capt. Jack (played by Johnny Depp) and Beatrice at her school this week:

It’s not everyday a Hollywood heartthrob pitches up in your classroom. But these Greenwich schoolgoers left the rest of Britain’s children – if not parents – green with envy when they had a surprise visit from Johnny Depp yesterday. The star in currently in the south east London borough filming the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie On Stranger Tides and arrived at the Meridian Primary School dressed in full character as Captain Jack Sparrow. He made the one-off trip after nine-year-old pupil Beatrice Delap wrote to the star asking for help staging a ‘mutiny’ against the teachers, as he was filming at the at the nearby 18th Century Old Naval College. The school was told just 10 minutes before that Depp would be arriving and two blacked out cars swept through the school gates. An onlooker said she heard the most ‘incredible screams of joy’ as the actor, in full make-up, then entered the school … she was then asked by the star to make herself known from the assembled pupils once he arrived, and gave her a cuddle. Beatrice marvelled: ‘He gave me a hug and he said, “Maybe we shouldn’t mutiny today ‘cos there are police outside monitoring me.”‘

Gahhh!! How cute is this story? While this whole thing turned out to be a huge surprise I don’t think any of us should be at all surprised that Johnny would be so cool to one of his young fans. The practice of writing fan mail has gone way out of fashion in the Internet age … I’m guessing that Depp was impressed that Miss Delap actually put pencil to paper for her request. I love it. After the jump, check out the hand-written letter that Beatrice sent to Capt. Jack

Captain Jack Sparrow, At Meridian Primary School, we are a bunch of budding young pirates and we were having a bit of trouble mutiny-ing against the teachers, and we’d love if you could come and help.

‘Beatrice Delap, aged nine, a budding pirate.

See folks … fan letters sometimes do yield amazing results. I love this story so much … and I wonder how many more letters Capt. Jack Sparrow will be receiving from here on out from other budding pirates ;)

Angelina Jolie Gets To Directing Her First Film

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 10:21 AM PDT

We may not know what the title of the film is yet but at last we get to see the first photo of Angelina Jolie hard at work behind the camera as director on her new film. People magazine brings us our first look at Ange on the set of her new film, currently in production in Prague, and as you can see … she is a woman in control:

With the kids about to start school and Brad Pitt fresh off the plane from America, it’s time for Angelina Jolie to start directing. A new film, that is. Making her directorial debut, Jolie, 35, has teamed up with Oscar-winning producer Graham King (The Departed) on her yet untitled film, which began shooting a week ago. “Angelina is one of the most accomplished and dedicated film professionals I have had the pleasure to work with, so I jumped at the chance to produce her directorial debut alongside her,” King tells PEOPLE. “I am very happy to be a witness to a new film director in the making.” Jolie went local when she cast her film, recruiting European actors Zana Marjanovic (Cannes critics week grand prize winner for Snow), Goran Kostic (Taken, Children of Men) and Rade Serbedzija (Batman Begins, Mission Impossible II).

I understand the as-yet-untitled film will focus on a love story that will feature the Bosnian War as the backdrop. HMMM. It’s an interesting enough idea, we’ll have to see how the whole thing turns out in the end. As you may know, Madonna is currently directing her own film titled W.E. so it’ll be interesting — at least for me — to see how the 2 films turn out and determine which celeb is the better director. I am very curious to see more … let’s see how much more of Angelina Jolie: Director we get to see in the coming weeks and months.

Football Stud Brett Favre Allegedly Shares Saucy Voicemails & Naked Pictures Of Himself

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 09:23 AM PDT

Back in February a scandalous story came out that alleged that Brett Favre, formerly of the New York Jets football team and currently with the Minnesota Vikings, sent unwanted voicemails and naked penis pictures to Jenn Sterger — a cheerleader turned NY Jets in-house sideline reporter. At the time, there was no actual proof of these voicemails or photos … just vivid descriptions from Sterger. Today, at long last, we not only get to hear the alleged voicemails in question but we also get to see the alleged penis photos of Brett Favre. Deadspin has been hard at work on this story for about 8 months and they, apparently, have finally come up with the goods about Favre‘s goods:

This is the evidence she told us about last February. Sadly, Jenn is still reluctant to talk on the record about the matter. Everything shown in the … video was acquired from a third party. And, yes, there’s a possibility that the person communicating with Jenn was not actually Brett Favre, but rather someone trying very hard to appear to be him. But let’s look at the evidence: For an individual to put forth the effort to 1.) acquire a cellphone with a Mississippi area code; 2.) take some voice lessons; and 3.) implicate Jets handlers and perhaps other people, all within a very short period of time and for no discernible reason other than to mess with Sterger, well, that’s some very aggressive role-playing. Jenn believed it to be him. Others believed it to be him. We’ve seen far too many supposedly family-oriented and upstanding professional athletes whose off-field behavior contradicts their well-manicured public persona. If Sterger is right, Brett Favre really is like a kid out there … Favre responds at presser: “I’m not getting into that. I’ve got my hands full with the Jets.”

You will note that Favre does NOT deny that the voicemails and photos are from him … here merely says that he’s not “getting into” any discussion about them. IMHO, a non-denial seems pretty much like a roundabout confirmation … but, again, we cannot know for sure. But, if you want to hear and SEE the newly surfaced evidence you can do so HERE. Remember, the NSFW penis pics that you will see in the video do NOT show anything that proves you are looking at Brett Favre … and even if it really is him, remember … it gets damn cold in Minnesota ;)

Rosario Dawson Does German ‘GQ’ Magazine

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 08:54 AM PDT

The insanely hot actress Rosario Dawson, who can be seen in the upcoming new film Unstoppable (which is being referred to as Speed on a train), is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of German GQ magazine … behold:

As with most foreign language magazines, the coverstory article for this issue is not available online in English … but the real draw here is not the article … the real draw is the accompanying photospread. Check out a few HOT photos of Ms. Dawson in this issue of German GQ after the jump …

Wow. I’d say that Rosario really knows how to fill out a bodysuit … and well! Despite the fact that Rosario‘s upcoming new film Unstoppable looks pretty unwatchable there is no denying that the girl looks good on film. Tho, unless she is wearing these outfits in the film, I’m afraid I cannot endorse seeing it when it comes out in theaters. This magazine? Yeah, get 2 copies.

First Look: Michelle Williams As Marilyn Monroe

Posted: 08 Oct 2010 08:08 AM PDT

Last month we learned that actress Michelle Williams (Dawson’s Creek, Brokeback Mountain) had been cast as Marilyn Monroe in an upcoming biopic co-starring Emma Watson and titled My Week with Marilyn and today we get our first look at Michelle as the iconic blonde bombshell herself. Additionally, we learn new casting news about the film from Deadline which shows that this film will be full of big Hollywood stars:

Julia Ormond is playing Vivien Leigh after Catherine Zeta-Jones dropped out, and Dougray Scptt is playing Arthur Miller. Filming starts today in London on the feature, which is shooting for 7 weeks at Pinewood and on location in and around the city. Michelle Williams is cast as Marilyn Monroe alongside Kenneth Branagh (Laurence Oliver), Judi Dench (Dame Sybil Thorndike), Dominic Cooper, Emma Watson and Derek Jacobi with Eddie Redmayne playing Colin Clark, the young assistant on the set of the 1956 film The Prince and the Showgirl who helped the star escape her pressure-cooker Hollywood career for a brief week.

Wow … this is a very strong cast of players, one that has the potential to really tell a fascinating and compelling story. What is key to this film, I think, is Williams‘s ability to bring Marilyn to life. As you may recall, yesterday we learned of a new book of personal writings — due for publication next month — by Marilyn Monroe that will show us for the first time previously unseen poems, letters and diary entries. Despite the fact that that book will give us a somewhat better understand of the real Marilyn Monroe, this film is proof that the public is still very much intrigued by the mythos of Marilyn Monroe. Now that we know what Michelle Williams‘s version of Marilyn Monroe looks like do you think she can pull off the part? I can see the similarity but, IMHO, this photo looks more like Michelle Williams with a lot of make-up rather than a totally convincing Marilyn Monroe.
