Watch: The ‘Fright Night’ Remake Releases A First Movie Trailer

Posted: 13 May 2011 05:30 PM PDT

On Wednesday we got to see a batch of new photos from the upcoming remake of the 80′s horror/comedy Fright Night and today we get to check out the FIRST TRAILER for the film. To be honest, there isn’t nearly as much David Tennant in the trailer as I would like … and I’m still not sure that Colin Farrell will make a good vampire … but the flick does look fun. Check out the trailer below.

I love Anton Yelchin … but … yeah, I think I’m on the fence with this one. I had high hopes … but something about Colin as a vampire seems … silly? I dunno. What do y’all think? Does this remake look good to you? I will say that all of this Fright Night talk has got me really interested in rewatching the original 1985 film ;)

‘Glee’s Dianna Agron Cuts Off All Of Her Hair

Posted: 13 May 2011 04:30 PM PDT

As soon as Dianna Agron wrapped the second season of Glee this month, she made a beeline to her hairstylist and had him chop off most of her hair! After rockin’ the beautiful long locks for a while, she decided it was time for a change … so she got herself a new ‘do. I love the shorter cut on her … check out photos below and see what you think.

She is known for her trademark tumbling blonde locks playing Quinn Fabray on the hit TV show Glee. But it appears Dianna Agron has been eager for a much shorter style. After wrapping Season Two of the show earlier this month, yesterday the 24-year-old actress had her hair cut short and shared a video of it with her fans. She then posted the clip on her official Tumblr account. ‘Is this going to be too short?’ her hairdresser is seen asking her in the clip. ‘No, I don’t think so. Do you guys think so?’ she asked her fans. After the stylist has gone to work snipping inches off the starlet’s hair, Dianna is clearly ecstatic. ‘I’m so happy!’ she screams. It appears that Dianna was eager to go shorter after sporting her longer style for several years. She wrote: ‘Season 2 wrap. A remedy to the seven-year itch. Finally!’

This is a great cut! It’s not as severe as Emma Watson‘s haircut but it’s just as stylish I think. Dianna looks amazing! What do you think? Do you love it?

The Revamped Version Of ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark’ Goes Into Previews On Broadway

Posted: 13 May 2011 03:30 PM PDT

In mid April, the Julie Taymor version of the Broadway musical disaster Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark unofficially closed so that the show could be retooled with a new story in the hopes of saving the show from total failure. After all of the injuries and technical glitches that plagued the show from the start last November, the hope is that a new version of the show might keep players from getting injured AND entertain audiences. Last night, the new version of Turn Off the Dark opened to previews … and altho there still were some technical problems, the show managed NOT to injure anyone so … it sounds like it’s off to a positive start.

With a streamlined plot pitting young love against duty, and a conflicted superhero against a droll supervillain, the musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" resumed performances on Broadway on Thursday after an unusual, three-and-a-half-week hiatus and creative overhaul that the producers hope will give the $70 million show a stronger shot at financial and critical success. Aside from a couple of technical glitches and one late entrance, the show unfolded fairly smoothly, without any of the obvious accidents, injuries or mechanical malfunctions that turned "Spider-Man" into an unusually vivid news story (for Broadway) and frequent punch line for late-night comics throughout the winter.

While the two lead producers of "Spider-Man" appeared on stage before the curtain rose and declared that the show was virtually brand new, Thursday's "Spider-Man" had many of the same design, flying and story elements conceived by the musical's original director, Julie Taymor, who was ousted in March.

The revamped show featured one entirely new song, "A Freak Like Me" at the top of Act II, written by U2's Bono and the Edge, the show's composers. Three other, newly titled musical numbers incorporated elements of songs that existed in Ms. Taymor's version of the show, and parts of those songs had fresh lyrics. Three songs from the Taymor production were cut, most belonging to one of her original characters, the spider-villainess Arachne.

The biggest changes, however, came in the plot and in the structure of the show. Extensive dialogue has been added, at least for now, that illuminates the anxieties and dreams of the main character, Peter Parker (Reeve Carney), who becomes Spider-Man late in Act I. The creative team that replaced Ms. Taymor also expanded the romantic subplot between Peter and his childhood best friend, Mary Jane Watson (Jennifer Damiano, who, the producers announced to audience cheers, turned 20 on Thursday). At the same time, they significantly changed the character of Arachne. In Ms. Taymor's production, Arachne evolved into the show's primary villain and came to dominate Act II, performing or sharing four of its nine songs. In the new show, Arachne appears only a few times, as a sort of guardian angel for Peter, and on Thursday night had only one of the nine songs in Act II. In her place, the new team has expanded the character of Norman Osborn, who becomes the joke-spewing Green Goblin, originally a primary player in Act I. In addition, the technically ambitious flying sequence — an aerial battle between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin — has been moved from the end of Act 1 to the Act II finale; that scene has replaced a showdown between Spider-Man and Arachne that took place on a massive net that proved difficult to deploy at many performances. As a result of the restructuring, relatively little flying — one of the show's chief selling points for theatergoing families — occurs in Act I.

I can’t tell if the changes are enough to make the show better but I’d put good money on chances that this version of Spider-Man, which focuses more on the character myth we already know and love and NOT on Taymour‘s ill-conceived dramatics, will do much better with critics and fans. Truth be told, I’d be willing to see this new version of Turn Off the Dark again. While the show that I saw was pretty terrible, I’d be willing to take a chance and see the show again in the hopes that producers finally got the story right. If any of y’all get to see this new version of Turn Off the Dark, you gotta let me know what you think. Hopefully, all we’ll hear about from here on out are happy audience members rather than dangerous injuries and fan complaints.

The Cast Of ‘Jersey Shore’ Arrives In Italy

Posted: 13 May 2011 02:30 PM PDT

First we saw photos of the Jersey Shore guys with packed bags in hand making their way to the airport bound for Italy, where the 4th season of their show will be filmed. Then we saw a photo of the JS ladies doing the exact same thing. Today we get to see photos of the full cast as they made their arrival in Florence, Italy earlier today. Check out below a few photos of Jersey invasion of Italy.

Welp … and away they go. To be honest, I’m sure the people of Florence will be very welcoming and very accommodating to the Jersey Shore kids. I know I give them grief for being, well, morons … but I’m sure they will do their best not to seriously embarrass or offend the people of Italy. Yes, they’re basically dumb kids running around having a blast when they are here in the US but I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually behaved themselves while they are in Italy. It’s one thing to pee on the street here in the US when you live here but I doubt they would do the same thing living abroad. Who knows, maybe Italy will have a profound effect on them and they’ll return to the US as better people? One can only hope.

Watch: HBO Releases A Full Length Trailer For ‘True Blood’ Season 4

Posted: 13 May 2011 01:58 PM PDT

For the past few months, we’ve been seeing behind the scenes promo videos for the upcoming 4th season of True Blood debuting on HBO in June. As you may recall, we saw videos that featured Eric Northman, Jason Stackhouse, Bill Compton and more. Today we get our FIRST LOOK at the first full-length trailer for the season … and it looks really fun! Check it out in full below.

Yay! I really love the humor in this trailer. True Blood has always been funny but not nearly as funny as it should be, IMHO. The show is at it’s best when it doesn’t take itself too seriously. I laughed a few times watching this trailer. This is a GREAT sign of what’s to come when True Blood Season 4 premieres on HBO on June 26. What do y’all think? Does TB season 4 look good to you?

‘Games’ Over

Posted: 13 May 2011 01:03 PM PDT

A few weeks ago, I finally finished reading the final book of The Hunger Games trilogy … Mockingjay. Because David and I were traveling and then a host of other things distracted me, I never got the chance to blog about the book. Now that all of the tributes have been cast for the upcoming Hunger Games film, I’m really getting anxious to see the story brought to life on the big screen. Read on for some of my (possibly spoilery) thoughts on the final book of the Hunger Games trilogy.

To be honest, I kinda had a feeling that the final book was not going to end on a happy note. Considering the way that Catching Fire ended, it was plainly obvious that the final book was going to be war-centric. I can understand why some fans feel that Mockingjay is the worst of the 3 books but I honestly loved it … and felt that, in the end, the trilogy stands as an excellent series of books. My guess is that the folks who do not care for Mockingjay take great issue with the fact that the book did not end happily. I can think of one death in particular that prolly angered a great many fans. Because that death took such an innocent character, it makes sense that there would be anger. Mockingjay makes the excellent point, tho, that War is Hell. Death can strike anyone … and even the people who you thought were the good guys sometimes do bad things. I can only judge Mockingjay in context with the two previous books … and as a trilogy, I loved The Hunger Games. I’m not going to lie tho … I did have strong feelings when I finished the book. I was obviously sad and angry … but any book that can make me feel that way has to be a damn good book. I am really curious to see how these tales will be told on the big screen. The first film will really give us a good idea of how well the books will be represented on the screen.

I’m curious … can those of you who have strong feelings — either good or bad — about the final book chime in? I’d love to hear what other people think of the book.

It’s Friday and time for the weekend. My dear friend Monique is visiting LA this weekend from Hong Kong and we are going with my friend Eileen to see Prince at The Forum. Yes, I know … more Prince? Yep. As I said, I will see him as many times as I can while he is still playing here. It’s so crazy to get to see one of your fave musicians over and over and over and for such a small price. Let the weekend commence!!

Will & Jada Pinkett-Smith Will Reportedly Be The Final Guests On ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’

Posted: 13 May 2011 11:13 AM PDT

With less than 10 eps left until The Oprah Winfrey Show goes off the air for good, rumor and speculation is running rampant as to who the final guests will be. According to a new report, that MUST be taken with a grain of salt as there is NO confirmation whatsoever, Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith are said to be Oprah‘s chosen final guests. IMHO, Oprah could’ve gotten someone bigger (anyone at all) but if this report turns out to be true, Will and Jada will have the distinction of being the last guests ever on The Oprah Show.

There has been much speculation over who will be given the honour of being Oprah Winfrey’s last ever guest as her show comes to a close after 25 years. And if recent reports are to be believed, the ‘chosen ones’ to appear on the May 25 show are going to be Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Fans and media reports have been trying to guess who will make the last entrance on the talk show titan’s stage but The Daily reports it will be the Smiths. Options had included Oprah’s long term boyfriend Stedman Graham, couch-jumper Tom Cruise, Jennifer Aniston, Gabrielle Giffords or her protégé Dr Phil McGraw. Smith and his wife and children have been on Oprah’s show many times in the past. Karate Kid star Jaden and Whip My Hair singer Willow have previously joined their parents on the famous couch. With only ten shows left, fans are excited to see who will be on the final episodes. Two of the hours will reportedly be dedicated to A Million Little Pieces author James Frey.

HMMM … this is an interesting report … I’m not sure I totally believe it but the Smiths are as plausible as any other guest. I was under the impression that the last episode ever of The Oprah Winfrey Show would feature no guests at all … just Oprah and her audience. There isn’t much time left until the final episode of Oprah airs and then is gone forever. Do you think Will and Jada Smith will be the final guests? If you could pick, who would YOU like to see as the final guest ever on The Oprah Winfrey Show?

Madonna Steps Out In A Matronly Outfit

Posted: 13 May 2011 10:55 AM PDT

Madonna has been known to wear racy and sometimes inappropriate clothing … but not yesterday as she did a bit of shopping in NYC. Maddy was spotted in an outfit that looked very conservative and compared to the stuff she has been known to wear, made her look pretty matronly. Is this a new era of fashion for Madge or has she just going thru a new phase?

We’re so used to seeing Madonna dress like someone half her age that we almost didn’t recognise her. Because she looked more like her 52 years than she ever has as she stepped out in New York today to do some shopping. The pop star looked very chic in a very pretty floral lavender dress which she had teamed with a lilac cardigan, tied in a knot at her waist. Madonna topped the outfit off with an oversized black bag and towering pale purple shoes. The demure outfit was certainly a far cry from some of the wardrobe choices she makes … In recent weeks, Madonna has been going for a more mature look, as anyone at the recent fashion gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art would testify. On that night, which was dedicated to the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen, she looked sensational in a blue, floor-length silk Stella McCartney gown that was adorned with stars cascading down the back. However, Madonna is usually seen dressing like a 20-something rock chick or in something that she should leave to her daughter Lourdes to model.

I have to say … Maddy does look kinda matronly in this outfit … but I do like that she is dressing in a more sophisticated way these days. To be honest, I love everything that Madonna wears … I don’t believe that she “dresses too young” at all. Everything she wears, she wears very well. BUT, it’s a nice change of pace to see her dressing in this way as well. What do y’all think? Do you like this new look on Madonna?

Ryan Murphy Talks About The Upcoming DEATH On ‘Glee’

Posted: 13 May 2011 10:41 AM PDT

The season finale of Glee is just a few weeks away and it’s not a big secret that there will be a death on the show. A few weeks ago, news leaked that an upcoming ep of Glee will be titled Funeral so, yeah, the secret’s kind of out. The cast of Glee is featured on the cover of the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine and in the coverstory interview, Glee creator Ryan Murphy talks a bit about the death to come on the show. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers in the article … but there are deets about what we can expect in the few remaining eps of this season.

The exact details have been kept top secret but someone will die during the season finale of Glee, according to US reports. The news – that will shock fans of the hit show – is revealed in the latest edition of The Hollywood Reporter. Glee creator Ryan Murphy also makes another shocking revelation. The show that is well known for tribute episodes to stars like Madonna and Lady Gaga will only have one special tribute next year. ‘I don’t want to reveal what the tribute is about,’ Murphy says, ‘but we finally got permission.’ This season’s final episode was filmed in New York in April and will air in the US On May 24. But, according to the Reporter: ‘The episode ends with the climactic competition and a death – victim as yet unknown.’ It is just one of the multiple storylines that Murphy has planned but kept top secret, not even letting the cast know until the absolute last minute. Murphy likens the finale to a classic Dynasty cliffhanger … “[I]n Act 6 of the Glee finale there are four plot reveals – all about relationships, moving forward and resolving some – which will hopefully keep the audience interested over the summer. ‘It’s one of the reasons why I wanted to delay publication of the script – those things get out, though in this day and age you can’t keep anything secret.’

OMG … who’s gonna die? There are all kinds of guesses as to who it could be … Karofsky, Kurt‘s Dad, Coach Beiste … the possibilities are endless. It’s even feasible that a main character might get offed, tho that is highly unlikely. As for the upcoming new tribute episode, my money is on the Beatles. Who do YOU think is going to die this season on Glee? Whose music do YOU think is going to be paid tribute to on Glee next season?

Watch: Nick Cannon Gives Ridiculous Details About The Birth Of His Twins

Posted: 13 May 2011 09:23 AM PDT

New daddy Nick Cannon was a guest on the OWN network talk show The Gayle King Show this week and talked at some length about the birth of his twin children Monroe and Moroccan Scott and the “production” that was put into place as the babies emerged from Mariah Carey‘s womb. According to Nick, Mimi insisted that a live version of her music was playing when the babies were born “they came out to a round of applause”. Uh huh. He also refers to the interesting names of his children as a product of Mimi and Nick‘s “celebrity weirdness”. Click below to watch clips of Nick talking to Gayle about other kooky deets surrounding the birth of his children.

Nick Cannon is a very proud new dad. The radio/TV host stopped by The Gayle King Show to gush about his new family, being Mariah Carey's husband, the unique names the couple chose for their twins and his first ever stand-up comedy special on Showtime called, "Nick Cannon: Mr. Showbiz." Nick made it clear that being part of Mariah's birthing experience was a "production." "Now, my wife wanted to make sure that when the babies came out, that they came out not only to a Mariah Carey song, but a live performance from Mariah Carey — her Madison Square Garden performance of 'Fantasy'— so they came out to a round of applause," he revealed of the birth. He also opened up about the unique names the couple chose for their newborn babies — Moroccan Scott and Monroe Cannon. "Of course we got to keep our celebrity weirdness up," he quipped of the unusual names. Nick wears a bunch of hats — actor, comedian, rapper and radio/TV personality — but he is also known as "Mr. Mariah Carey." "At times it used to frustrate me," he said of the moniker. "When I step back and look at my life as a whole, I could be called a lot of worse things than Mr. Mariah Carey." Gayle's full interview with Nick airs tomorrow on The Gayle King Show at 10am (ET) on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

LMAOOOOOOOOOOO! The bit about Mariah‘s music playing as the babies were born is the MOST ridiculous and MOST Mariah Carey thing I have ever heard. The fact that this info comes from Nick himself is just amazing.

In other Nick and Mariah news, you’ll never guess what Nick gave to Mimi for her first Mother’s Day, which just so happened to be about a week after the couple’s twin children were born … he got her some new jewelry, of course!

New mom Mariah Carey didn't have to wait long to celebrate her first Mother's Day. Just days after welcoming twins Monroe and Moroccan on April 30, the singer toasted her new life as a mom with a very special present from Nick Cannon: a 4-carat diamond and sapphire necklace from Jason of Beverly Hills. "Nick was really excited about the babies' names and wanted to do a piece with them for Mariah's first Mother's Day," jeweler Jason Arasheben explains. "Pink sapphires are bright and bold and diamonds are always so classic." The sparkling piece, which also incorporates 14-karat white and rose gold, is valued at $12,000. Cannon, a longtime customer of Jason, was excited about his big surprise. "Nick came in and met with Jason on the Friday after his twins were born," a source tells PEOPLE. "He was bleary eyed, looking so tired but so happy — all smiles, saying he wanted to design something special for Mariah's first Mother's day. He couldn't want to surprise her on Sunday."

JUST … perfect. As gaudy as all of this sounds, I love it all. Mariah Carey as a mom? You KNOW she’s gonna do EVERYTHING over-the-top. Now … I want to see the babies. I’m sure we’ll be seeing the first photos of the twins very soon … mebbe as early as next week? As for the babies’ birth, what do y’all think? Does this sound EXACTLY the way you thought MC‘s first birth would turn out?

Matthew Perry Is Planning A Return To Rehab

Posted: 13 May 2011 08:20 AM PDT

Former Friends star Matthew Perry has released a statement announcing that he will be going away for a while in order to work on his addictions. Altho Perry‘s people insist that he has not suffered a relapse, they make clear that this month-long stint in rehab is part of his on-going recovery. You may know that Perry returned to TV recently in the ABC series Mr. Sunshine, so it’s possible that he is just making sure he stays clean so that he can return to the show when the new TV season starts up in the Fall.

Matthew Perry, who has struggled with prescription pills and alcohol in the past, is going back to a treatment facility as part of his ongoing recovery. The Friends star, 41, confirms the move in a statement that ends with a Chandler Bing-style dry quip. “I’m making plans to go away for a month to focus on my sobriety and to continue my life in recovery,” he says. “Please enjoy making fun of me on the World Wide Web." Perry, who most recently appeared in Mr. Sunshine on ABC, was in rehab twice in 2001 and 1997. A source tells PEOPLE, “There was no relapse,” and that the actor plans to enter the facility shortly.

Making a joke in an announcement about rehab is a sure defense mechanism … but it also seems to imply that Matthew is trying to keep things as normal as possible by staying in control. Addiction is a lifelong battle and I wish him nothing but the greatest success. Here’s hoping his month away will foster his sobriety and afford him the fortitude to keep his addictions in check.

NBC Chooses NOT To Air The New Wonder Woman Series

Posted: 13 May 2011 05:00 AM PDT

Alas … it just wasn’t meant to be. Entertainment Weekly magazine is reporting that NBC has decided to pass on the new Wonder Woman TV series and NOT air it this coming Fall season. From the start, it seemed like the David E. Kelley reboot of Wonder Woman was doomed from the beginning but after some wrangling and last minute deal making, NBC decided to take a chance and produce a pilot for the show. In the end, it turns out that NBC decided the show just wasn’t good enough to air … and so, Wonder Woman will not be making her return to TV after all.

EW has learned that NBC passed on the much buzzed-about Wonder Woman pilot from David E. Kelley and Warner Bros. TV. Kelley had penned a script that updated the comic book classic to have Diana Prince as CEO of a major conglomerate by day and a butt-kicking Amazon (with a fleet of cool planes) by night. Kelley's take asked for lots of heart-thumping, contemporary music, and at one point the Boston Legal writer even requested a commercial-free premiere for the pilot if it aired. Why did the 'ol girl fail to pass muster? NBC isn't saying for now but scuttlebutt reveals the pilot earned mixed reviews at test screenings. And then there was all the online blow back about the costume – which seemed to de-emphasize the patriotism and play up the comic's Greek mythology. Ultimately, the wardrobe department went back to the drawing board but that didn't seem to save the project. Big bummer for Adrianne Palicki — a budding star from Friday Night Lights who deserved a leading role on the fall lineup. Maybe she can fill the void left by Minka Kelly on Parenthood and be the hot gal who keeps messing with Crosby's mind. Or…Warner Bros. TV may try to shop the pilot elsewhere. But who would take a gamble on a pilot that NBC rejected?

In the end, this is prolly for the best. I was SO worried from the very start that any new version of Wonder Woman would do a disservice to the original series that starred Lynda Carter in the late 70′s/early 80′s. Wonder Woman is a classic and iconic superhero and she has to be treated well. At almost every juncture, there was worrisome news coming out about this new project … from the terrible script to the atrocious first costume. In the end, it sounds like David E. Kelley‘s changes did not work for the character and NBC made the wise decision to kill the project. I have to say, tho, I’m terribly curious about the pilot. I’d love to see how it turned out … just because I love Wonder Woman so much. But, yeah, I can’t be too sad this project is dead. Unless and until someone can do justice to the Wonder Woman character, I’d rather the character just be left alone.
