R.I.P. Another Teen Suicide Blamed On Anti-Gay Bullying Posted: 01 Oct 2010 06:02 AM PDT The third young victim in a week has claimed his life in response to alleged anti-gay bullying. Seth Walsh was found unconscious in his backyard on September 19 after trying to take his life. He was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, not in time to save his life. Seth Walsh, a 13-year-old California middle school student, died in the hospital on Tuesday, days after he attempted to take his own life after reportedly enduring relentless bullying. Friends told NBC affiliate KGET that Seth had been picked on for years because he was gay. Police investigators interviewed some of the young people who taunted Seth the day he hanged himself, and determined despite the tragic outcome of their ridicule, their actions do not constitute a crime, reported KGET. “Several of the kids that we talked to broke down into tears,” Jeff Kermode, Tehachapi Police Chief, said. “They had never expected an outcome such as this.” Judy Walsh hopes her son’s death is a wake up call to the community to “develop more tolerance for different people.” On September 22, it was 18-year-old Tyler Clementi, who took his life just one month into his first year at Rutgers University. On September 23, 13-year-old Asher Brown made the same tragic decision. The eighth-grader killed himself last week. He shot himself in the head after enduring what his mother and stepfather say was constant harassment from four other students at Hamilton Middle School in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. Brown, his family said, was “bullied to death” — picked on for his small size, his religion and because he did not wear designer clothes and shoes. Kids also accused him of being gay, some of them performing mock gay acts on him in his physical education class, his mother and stepfather said. The 13-year-old’s parents said they had complained about the bullying to Hamilton Middle School officials during the past 18 months, but claimed their concerns fell on deaf ears. SMH. R.I.P. Sean John Model “Esco” Found Dead In New Jersey Posted: 01 Oct 2010 03:57 AM PDT Sad news for friends and loved ones of Rocawear and Sean John model Jubar “Esco” Croswell. The remains of the 30-year-old model and actor were identified yesterday, however his cause of death remains a mystery. A man walking near the Oakwood Plaza shopping center in Edison found the body of Jubar (Esco) Croswell, 30, off a leafy street last Thursday about 2:15p.m., Middlesex County prosecutors said. Croswell, who lived in Fort Greene, was wearing a Louis Vuitton belt and Jet Lag cargo pants when he was discovered. It was not immediately clear how long he had been dead when he was found. NYPD sources said Croswell was reported missing on Sept. 17, four days after he was last seen. The cause of death is still being investigated by local authorities So sad. We dug up a few photos of Esco to share with you. Check him out with Jessica White and Omahyra: Bossip spoke to sources in the urban modeling game close to Esco, and we’re being told that while Esco’s numerous friends in the industry are mourning his death, it was suspected weeks ago when he went missing that he might be dead. While what happened remains a real mystery, there are some clues that the mainstream press hasn’t mentioned — such as the fact his car was discovered burned up in Brooklyn several weeks ago. Esco is survived by a newborn son and the child’s mother, as well as his mother, father and brother. Quote Of The Day: King James Says Of The Decision Backlash “It’s Always, You Know, A Race Factor” Posted: 30 Sep 2010 11:34 PM PDT Since his televised announcement that he’d be joining the Miami Heat, Lebron James stock has definitely dropped, at least in the court of public opinion. And while some of his main critics included fellow black athletes, like Charles Barkley, Bron Bron says he believes race played a part in the backlash. LeBron James appeared on the CNN program “Primetime” on Wednesday night and the NBA superstar said he believes race was a factor in the negative feedback he received after “The Decision.” CNN correspondent Soledad O’Brien mentioned that James’s brand and name were “tarnished” because of his decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers in such a public fashion and asked if race played a role in the backlash. “I think so at times,” James replied. “It’s always, you know, a race factor.” Maverick Carter, a 28-year-old who is one of James’s closest advisers, said race “definitely played a role in some of the stuff coming out of the media, things that were written for sure.” According to James’s recent Q scores, a measurement of popularity, his positive Q rating among African Americans dropped from 52 percent in January to 39 percent in September. His negative Q rating increased from 14 percent to 15 percent. Some believe race plays a role in these ratings. Throughout the summer after James joined his friends Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, he received an enormous amount of criticism from past NBA stars, fans and his former employer, Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. Following “The Decision,” Gilbert wrote an open letter to Cavaliers fans and called James “narcissistic.” Gilbert also wrote that LeBron’s departure from his hometown was a “cowardly betrayal.” Rev. Jesse Jackson said he believes Gilbert’s letter personified “a slave master mentality.” Gilbert denied Jackson’s claims and said his letter had nothing to do with slavery. So are we to believe that there are legions of folks out there mad that Bron Bron acted like an ungrateful disobedient “darkie”??? Really? People can’t just be mad he didn’t show his hometown team some professional courtesy by giving them a heads up? What do you think?
