Stop The Violence: Focused 17-Year-Old’s Life Cut Short By Drive-By

Your kid is a magnet school student in a business program for young women. Her hangout spot is the courtyard in your apartment building. She’s got a job and aspirations. You’ve done the necessary to keep her safe, right?

That’s probably what 36-year-old Lisa Baez thought about her 17-year-old daughter Cheyenne. Unfortunately, Cheyenne’s life was cut short on Sunday by a stray bullet aimed at some Harlem hooligans.

Cheyenne Baez, 17, collapsed outside 112 E. 128th St., leaving a trail of blood from the playground where she was struck.

The teen, a student at the Urban Assembly School of Business for Young Women, was pronounced dead 25 minutes later at Harlem Hospital.

“She told the friend she was with, ‘I’m cold. I think I was shot,’ ” said Taisha Velez, describing the heartbreaking last words of the popular teen nicknamed “Canela,” Spanish for cinnamon.

Sources said they believe a gunman in a van opened fire into the courtyard where Baez and friends gathered. Witnesses said several other men had snuck into the area through a fence just moments before shots rang out.

“It had something to do with [another girl and an] old boyfriend-new boyfriend,” a source said. “[Cheyenne] had nothing to do with it.”

Minutes after the gunfire, a 30-year-old man who had been in the courtyard was found on East 126th Street, a bullet in his thigh, cops said. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

“[Cheyenne] was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said neighbor Nancy Black, 55.

SMH. Can you imagine burying your child at 36? And living the rest of your life wondering what might have been? R.I.P. Cheyenne.

Even when major performers manage not to get arrested the night before, or fail to show up for any other reason, the BET Hip-Hop Awards taping can’t seem to avoid drama.

It started with one shot fired by BET’s noted President of Programming, Music and Specials:

Most of Mr. Hill’s followers were racking their brains trying to understand why he would even stoop to the level of airing Flocka out on Twitter. No surprise to us: Wacka f*cked up the opportunity to have a great look on this year’s show.

And when he figured out he p*ssed Stephen Hill off, Wacka-velli responded true to form, and got an immediate response from Mr. Hill that probably exceeded his attention span:
