First Look: Eric Stoltz As Marty McFly In ‘Back To The Future’

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 02:23 PM PDT

In celebration of the upcoming 25th anniversary of the classic 80′s films, a new DVD box set is being released of the Back to the Future Trilogy complete previously unseen footage from the first 5 weeks of production of the film. This previously unseen footage features the character we all know and love, Marty McFly, going back to 1955 by way of a time-traveling Delorean car — but what makes this particular footage special is that actor Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly … behold:

Everyone knows the classic 1985 film “Back to the Future” featured a boyish Michael J. Fox in a winning performance as Marty McFly. But Fox was not the original McFly. In fact, Eric Stoltz was five weeks into shooting the famed McFly role when director and co-writer Robert Zemeckis made a drastic production decision — changing his lead actor. Details of the shocking Hollywood switch and never-before-seen footage of Stoltz as McFly are part of the extras package for the “Back to the Future 25th Anniversary Trilogy” to be released on Blu-Ray on Oct. 26. Zemeckis says the casting change was “this horrific decision; it was heartbreaking for everybody.” Executive producer Steven Spielberg said that Zemeckis consulted him before pursuing the casting change. “(Zemeckis) showed me the first five weeks of shooting that he had put together,” Spielberg said. ” And he said, ‘I just don’t think we’re getting the laughs I was hoping we would get.’ ” Spielberg said he realized his director “was absolutely correct.” The rest is pop-culture history.

I knew that Stoltz was cast as the original Marty McFly but I had never seen footage of him in the role. After the jump, check out video from the Back to the Future Trilogy box set that shows key scenes from Back to the Future with Eric Stolz as Marty McFly

Holy shizz!! This footage BLOWS MY MIND! I am such a big fan of the Back to the Future films … news of this remastered DVD box set is really exciting. Click HERE to preorder your copy now! Equally exciting is the news that AMC Theaters will show Back to the Future on the big screen again at the end of this month in celebration of the film’s 25th anniversary:

The film will only be shown on October 23 and 25, click HERE for more deets. Talk about your blast from the past … er, future ;)

Christina Aguilera Issues A Statement About Her Separation From Jordan Bratman

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 01:47 PM PDT

Earlier today we learned the surprising news that married couple Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman have been separated for some time now and I guessed that one or both of the would be issuing an official statement on the matter sometime today. And right on cue, here is the very short official statement from Xtina herself:

“Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever.”

I’m hearing that there is nothing legal about this split … no papers have been filed, no lawyers are involved … there is just trouble in paradise and Xtina and Jordy have decided to spend some time apart to try and see if they can work out their personal problems. I suppose we won’t be hearing anything new officially until either A.) the couple decides to get back together or B.) they decide to formally end their marriage. OY! I guess what they say is true, breaking up is hard to do.

Mark Zuckerberg: Comic Book Hero

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 01:29 PM PDT

Taylor Lautner has one, the cast of Glee has one and even Betty White has one … now Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has his very own comic book title. Zuckerberg, who is getting a lot of attention these days due to the release of the David Fincher film The Social Network, is featured in a comic book published by Bluewater Productions … here is what it will look like:

As the brains and driving force behind Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg has become the youngest billionaire in the history of the planet. As this comic reveals, the road for the success for both his creation and him personally was not preordained nor was it always a smooth ride. He would be tempted with unimaginable amounts of money and have to deal harshly with people along the way – many of whom would later feel betrayed. Read how a young man’s frustration with women helped spark an idea that would have him dating Victoria’s Secret models and how a socially inept young man wound up creating a company that has revolutionised the way hundreds of millions of people all over the globe socialise with each other.

So yeah, this is basically the comic book version of The Social Network. So, how does the comic book compare to the film? Find out, after the jump …

Ugh … based on just these 2 pages, it’s clear that the comic book version of the founding of Facebook is not as compelling as the film version. Still, if you’re a Zuckerberg fan this might be right up your alley. So yeah, I’m thinking the only Zuckerberg fans out there interested in any memorabilia would be Mark‘s mom and dad.

Cheyenne Jackson Does ‘Out’ Magazine

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 01:19 PM PDT

Broadway, film and television star Cheyenne Jacksonwho’s latest gig is appearing on the hit TV series Glee — is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Out magazine. In his coverstory article, Cheyenne opens up about his life-long fascination with Wonder Woman, his 10 year relationship with partner Monte Lapka, his acting skillz and more. As you can imagine, Cheyenne‘s Out magazine photospread is HOT HOT HOT … but we’ll get to that in a bit. First up, here are a few excerpts from Cheyenne‘s Out magazine interview:

On his Wonder Woman Fetish: Even from a distance of 25 years, the memory of his weekly Lynda Carter fix gives Jackson goosebumps. A few years ago, his father found an old woodburning art kit of the kind once popular among boy scouts. The idea was to use a woodburning pen to etch around a suitably masculine image on a piece of wood, in this case a muscle car. Jackson, however, must have lost interest part way through. "It was as if I started it and was, like, 'Eh, I don't want to do that.' And then I turn it over, and on the other side, I'd freehanded a portrait of Wonder Woman. Not only that, I'd added watercolors. I had her blue undies and her red thing. I just thought that was a perfect encapsulation of me as a child."

On his relationship with his partner: A few months after that birthday dinner, Jackson and his partner of more than 10 years, Monte Lapka, walked into New York's City Hall and registered as domestic partners. "We wanted to get as married as we could," says Jackson. "I think we were filling in some forms for wills or insurance, and I just thought, Let's just make this as legal as we can. It was with a bunch of Russian mail order brides, literally. And it was hilarious and it was romantic, just he and me, our little secret." Although Lapka, a trained physicist, is apparently ambivalent about marriage proper, his status on Jackson's Wikipedia page is already listed as "spouse." The boy of 18 who had never said "I'm gay" has come a long way.

On learning to own his own space from an acting coach: "He immediately just broke down my façade — all my bullshit — and challenged me to own my own space," recalls Jackson. The coach took him to Ninth Avenue in Manhattan, pointed down the busy sidewalk, and commanded him to walk right down the center, not bobbing or weaving as Jackson would ordinarily do. "They'll move for you," he told the hesitant actor. "It was very hard," recalls Jackson. "People were like, 'Asshole, I'm holding groceries here, what the fuck,' but I did it. I learned to hold my own space." He smiles. "That's when things really started happening."

I first fell in love with Cheyenne after seeing him (multiple times) in the Broadway musical Xanadu and since then, my love has grown. I’ve meet the man on a few occasions and I can tell you, he is as real as they come. Hearing about his Wonder Woman love only endears him to me more because we all know I, too, have that same love for the Amazonian superhero. Now it’s your turn to love Cheyenne Jackson — after the jump, check out a few photos from his Out magazine interview and see what all the hubbub is about …

Here is behind the scenes video from Cheyenne‘s photoshoot:

Cheyenne Jackson is a star … a very talented, very handsome star … and this is only the beginning. I can’t wait to see more from Mr. Jackson. Wee!

David Schwimmer & Zoë Buckman Got Hitched . . . 4 Months Ago!

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 12:57 PM PDT

While one Friends marriage is falling apart, another Friends marriage has been revealed … it turns out that former Friends actor David Schwimmer (who played Ross Gellar on the long-running series) got himself hitched to longtime girlfriend Zoë Buckman — 4 months ago! Apparently the couple were wed in private and have only just now decided to confirm the nuptials. David and Zoë got hitched, y’all!

David Schwimmer has been secretly married to his British girlfriend Zoe Buckman for four months, the actor’s rep confirms to PEOPLE. The two tied the knot in a small private ceremony in early June after having reportedly met in London in 2007, at the time Schwimmer was directing the romantic movie comedy Run, Fat Boy, Run, starring Simon Pegg and Thandie Newton. A part-time photographer, Buckman, now 25, was waitressing at the Cuckoo Club in London’s West End when she served Schwimmer, now 43. She then reportedly left her home in north London and moved to Los Angeles to be with him. In March, the two announced their engagement.

Awww … this is great news. You know, it’s nice to hear some happy couples news with all this sad news going around. First we hear about Courteney Cox & David Arquette‘s split and then Christina Aguilera & Jordan Bratman‘s split … this news of David and Zoë‘s secret marriage is very heartening! Here’s hoping we get to hear more good news and no more splits.

Badges Of Honor

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 12:42 PM PDT

As I suspected early yesterday, I ended up spending pretty much all day in without leaving the house once. I haven’t been feeling too hot lately so I decided to just keep things as chill as possible here at home. Because I was pretty much laid up all day long on the couch, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to kick some ass in Pokémon SoulSilver. As a result of all the free time I had this weekend, I managed to work my way thru the game and successfully win 6 of the 8 Gym Badges in the game:

Without going into too much game-play detail for those of you unfamiliar with the Pokémon video games, you essentially work your way thru various levels of the game competing for 8 badges while collecting Pokémon creatures along the way. After you win all 8 badges, you compete against the Elite Four bosses of the game and then there is a final battle, I believe, with superstrong (or legendary) Pokémon … or something like that. Trust me, as anyone who has played the game long enough can attest, this video game is addicting. I haven’t been this engrossed in a Pokémon game since 2001 … and, to be honest, I can’t believe I’ve been away for so long. I’ve been having a blast … and I’m looking forward to beating this damn game so I can get my life back.

Tonight, I’m planning to make my way to the Grammy Museum in downtown LA to see my fave saxophone player Dave Koz live in concert. His new album Hello Tomorrow is out today and I’m excited to see him live again. It’s been many years since I’ve seen him in concert but I’ve been a big fan since the late 80′s. He was my idol when I played sax in high school … so yeah, that’s what I’ll be doing. Afterward, I’ll be picking up David from the airport … even tho he’s been away for only 2 days it feels like longer … it’ll be great to have him home again.

David Arquette Dishes On His Split From Courteney Cox

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 11:01 AM PDT

Yesterday afternoon the surprising news broke that Courteney Cox and David Arquette decided to split up after 11 years of marriage … a split that took place months ago but only yesterday came to light officially. Earlier today, Arquette called in to the Howard Stern Show to talk about the split and reveal when the break-up first too place and what has happened since. As you can well imagine, both Courtney and David have taken off their wedding rings. Read on for some deets from David‘s interview with Howard Stern:

David Arquette just called in to the Howard Stern Show — explaining EVERYTHING about why he and Courteney Cox agreed to take a “trial separation” … noting that they haven’t had sex in 4 months. Arquette explained that he and Courteney stopped having sex around one month before they started shooting “Scream 4″ in Michigan … and drifted from there. He also claims Courteney was the one who insisted they try separating right after their 11th wedding anniversary back in June … after she told David that she was “tired of being your mother.” David claims he still loves Courteney — and calls her one of the most amazing people on the planet. David is also adamant that he never cheated on Courteney before the split — but admits he has had sex with rebound chick Jasmine Waltz … his “one conquest.” Arquette also said he is hopeful he and Courteney can patch things up and get back together.

If you would like to hear this charming radio interview for yourselves, you can do so HERE. I will give David credit for his honesty … I doubt we’ll ever hear Courteney talking this candidly about the split. I completely believe that Courteney eventually got fed up with being a “mother” to David … he strikes me as the kind of man that needs coddling … and she strikes me as the kind of woman who won’t put up with that bullshizz for very long (tho, 11 years is a long time). Welp, it’s all out there now … I don’t know where David gets the notion that he and Courteney will get back together but … more power to him.

Now that this Courteney/David split is cooling down … how about that Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman split, huh?

‘The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills’ Premieres In Beverly Hills

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 10:40 AM PDT

Back in August we got our first look at the cast of the newest Housewives in the Bravo TV stable of programmingThe Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Today we get to see photos from the premiere event for the show which was held, naturally, in Beverly Hills, CA last night. In addition to the new Housewives themselves, a plethora of A-List celebs also strutted their stuff down the red carpet at the event — A-Listers like La Toya Jackson, Nicky & Paris Hilton … AND her wonky eye:

The Hilton sisters were there to support their aunts who are featured castmembers of The Real Housewives of Beverly HillsParis‘s wonky eye was dragged there against its will … poor thing. I have no idea why La Toya Jackson was there … perhaps she saw the red carpet and camera flashbulbs and decided to swing by. To be honest, as much as I enjoy watching the different versions of The Real Housewives, I kinda feel like things are getting out of hand. If anything could kill the successful franchise, it would be the vapid ostentatious of the ladies of Beverly Hills. The Real Housewives of DC really tried my patience last season … it was very boring to watch. I’ll give the Beverly Hills ladies a chance but if they end up sucking, I’ll be out. Are any of y’all planning to watch this newest version of The Real Housewives?

Hilary Duff Releases & Signs Her Debut Novel

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 10:17 AM PDT

Back in May we learned that actress-turned-pop star Hilary Duff would be releasing her debut novel this Fall … and, at long last, the time is at hand. Hilary‘s book Elixir, which she co-authored with Elise Allen, is available in stores now and last night she made an in-person appearance at a Border’s in NYC to meet her fans and sign a few books. MTV got their hands on a review copy of Elixir and offer their thoughts on what the book has in store:

Co-authored by Elise Allen, “Elixir” is a supernatural tale about destiny and soulmates. Think of it as “The Time Traveler’s Wife” starring a much-more-grounded version of Serena van der Woodsen. Perhaps drawing from her own experience in the limelight, Hilary’s protagonist is 17-year-old Clea Raymond, a reluctant tabloid staple thanks to her parents’ high-profile careers (mom is a politician, dad is a renowned surgeon). From a young age, Clea’s dad nurtures her interest in photography, and by her teens, Clea is fielding dream photojournalism assignments under the pseudonym Alissa Grande (no one wants to hire a celebutante only interested in vanity projects, after all).

HMMM. You can read the rest of the MTV review of Elixir HERE. IMHO, Hil D‘s book is prolly just as good as Nicole Richie‘s new book Priceless and DEFFO better than the new book “written” by Mike The Situation Sorrentino. Whether or not this book sounds interesting to you, I’m sure it’ll be of some interest to Hilary‘s young fans … and anything that gets kids to read books is A-OK with me :D

So How Did That Banksy Collabo With ‘The Simpsons’ Come To Be?

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 10:01 AM PDT

On Sunday night The Simpsons aired an opening title “couch gag” which was directed by guerrilla graffiti artist Banksy (which we saw here on the blog yesterday morning) and humorously paints the show and its parent company 20th Century Fox in a very negative light. Today we get to read excerpts from an interview that Simpsons executive producer and show-runner Al Jean did with The New York Times that explains how the collaboration came to be:

Q. How did you find Banksy to do this, and now that it's done, how much trouble are you in?
A. Well, I haven't been fired yet, so that's a good sign. I saw the film Banksy directed, "Exit Through the Gift Shop," and I thought, oh, we should see if he would do a main title for the show, a couch gag. So I asked Bonnie Pietila, our casting director, if she could locate him, because she had previously located people like Thomas Pynchon. And she did it through the producers of that film. We didn't have any agenda. We said, "We'd like to see if you would do a couch gag." So he sent back boards for pretty much what you saw.

Q. Were you concerned that what he sent you could get the show into hot water?
A. I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about it for a little bit. Certainly, Fox has been very gracious about us biting the hand that feeds us, but I showed it to Matt Groening, and he said, no, we should go for it and try to do it pretty much as close as we can to his original intention. So we did. Like we always do, every show is submitted to broadcast standards, and they had a couple of [changes] which I agreed with, for taste. But 95 percent of it is just the way he wanted.

Q. Can you say what got cut out?
A. I'll just say, it was even a little sadder. But I would have to say almost all of it stayed in. We were thrilled. It was funny, I watched "Mad Men" last night and I wondered if this was my Don Draper letter to The New York Times. I knew just how he felt. But it was great to have a secret.

Q. Even compared to how "The Simpsons" has mocked Fox in the past, this seemed to push things to a different level. Are you sure there's no one higher up than you on the corporate ladder who's displeased with this?
A. I think that we should always be able to say the holes in our DVDs are poked by unhappy unicorns.

Q. Has Banksy's criticism made you reconsider any of the ways you do things at "The Simpsons" in terms of producing the show or its merchandise?
A. I have to say, it's very fanciful, far-fetched. None of the things he depicts are true. That statement should be self-evident, but I will emphatically state it.

Q. A lot of the show's animation is produced in South Korea, but not under those conditions.
A. No, absolutely not.

Q. And even that closing shot of the 20th Century Fox logo surrounded in barbed wire?
A. Approved by them. Obviously, the animation to do this was pricey. I couldn't have just snuck it by Fox. I'll just say it's a place where edgy comedy can really thrive, as long as it's funny, which I think this was. None of it's personal. This is what made "The Simpsons" what it is.

In my personal opinion, I think the opening speaks volumes about commercialism in general and isn’t meant to speak directly to the conditions under which The Simpsons marketing machine really works. I applaud the show and 20th Century Fox for allowing its image to be lampooned so that an artist like Banksy can make such a public statement. The whole thing is just so cleverly done … right down to the final scene of the 20th Century Fox logo — famous for its spotlights — locked away behind barbed wire in a prison setting … with even more spotlights. I find it very hard to believe that Fox will ever find a way to allow its image to be self-deprecated in a more sensational way. In case you missed it or just want another look, you can watch the opening title sequence of The Simpsons directed by Banksy after the jump …

I like the opening. Do you?

Christina Aguilera & Jordan Bratman Are Dunzo!

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 08:44 AM PDT

While many of us, me included, are still struggling with the shocking news that Courteney Cox-Arquette and David Arquette are dunzo, US Weekly magazine is reporting today that another celebrity marriage is dunzo as well. According to the mag, Christina Aguilera and hubby Jordan Bratman have split … actually, have been separated for months … just like Courteney and David were. HMMM. At this point, the news has not been confirmed or denied by the couple … so take the report for what it is:

Singer Christina Aguilera is going solo. Though the pop star, 29, told UsMagazine.com less than a year ago that she felt "very blessed" in her union with music executive Jordan Bratman, 33, a source close to Aguilera tells Us the couple "have been separated for a few months." And though Aguilera and Bratman — who met in 2002 (he was a producer on one of her albums) and wed in 2005 — have not yet decided whether to divorce, the source reveals, "they are now living apart, and they will see how that goes." What went wrong? "They were very much in love," explains the insider. "But over the last six months, it became clear they were more like friends than husband and wife."The source adds that Aguilera even "proposed their August trip to Italy to rekindle their relationship, but it didn't help." The duo remain united in their commitment, however, to son Max, 2. "He is their main concern," says the pal.

I have to admit, I find this report a bit dubious … especially with its timing. At first read, it feels a bit like a story that is meant to capitalize on the confirmed break-up of Courteney and David. Because it remains unconfirmed and offers no real proof of a split, I’m hesitant to believe it … just yet. BUT, I was so surprised by the news of Courteney and David‘s split that, well, even tho I don’t necessarily believe this news about Xtina and Jordy just yet I suppose I have to consider that it may turn out to be true, just like Courteney and David. We’ll have to wait and see what Xtina has to say about this report from US Weekly.

UPDATE: Extra! TV is now also reporting that Xtina and Jordy have split (Extra! claims the couple are officially divorcing). Where there’s smoke … there should come an official statement one way or the other. Stay tuned …

UPDATE 2: Dang! TMZ is now joining the party claiming they’ve confirmed the Xtina/Jordan split is true. All that’s left is for us to hear from the couple themselves. I suspect an official statement may come later today.

Trevor Donovan Is Proud To Play A Gay Character On ‘90210’

Posted: 12 Oct 2010 08:20 AM PDT

Back in August 90210 hottie Trevor Donovan spilled the beans that his character on the show, Teddy, would be coming out as gay this season. Late last season it was reported that one of the main 90210 male characters would emerge as a questioning gay character whose storyline will unfold over time revealing his homosexuality … and about 4 eps into the new season, that storyline is beginning to take shape. Trevor Donovan spoke with The New York Post about his role on 90210 and expressed pride that he is able to portray the story of a young gay man coming out … especially in light of all of the bullying and suicides of GLBT youth here in the US in recent weeks:

PopWrap: Were you excited to be the actor chosen to bring this storyline to life?
Trevor Donovan: I am so proud to be the one given this storyline — especially once I really had a conversation with the executive producer about where the story was going and the concerns I had. I'm very impressed with how this is being written. It's exactly how I hoped it would turn out.

PW: It also feels like a great time to be telling this kind of story.
Trevor: Exactly. And it is a horrible situation, but I'm given the opportunity not only shed light with my storyline, but celebrities are bringing attention to the issue with The Trevor Project and It Gets Better. I'm glad it's so publicized. It's a good opportunity to remind people of what's going on.

PW: As a straight man, did you turn to anyone in particular to get more insight into Teddy’s struggle?
Trevor: Oh, most definitely. I talked to acting coaches and friends who are gay, which helps a lot. I grew up in a small town, totally sheltered from any kind of alternative lifestyle, so this has been new to me also.

PW: I know it’s in the early days, but what kind of reaction have you been getting from fans?
Trevor: I've been getting Tweets and Facebook messages that run the gamut from heart-warming to inspiring to tear jerking – I really feel like we're doing something positive here, and it just adds another layer to why I love acting: it lets me help people.

PW: Last week Teddy called Ian the F-word and fought with him. How do they interact moving forward?
Trevor: The thing with Teddy, and I think it's very true to real life, is that he is so confused. So much in denial and not knowing how to deal with these emotions. So he acts out. Teddy will continue to struggle before he comes to the realization of who he is and Ian will be very supportive of that.

PW: So is their relationship on the DL?
Trevor: Teddy and Ian’s "friendship" isn't even displayed in public. He forgives me for using the F-word and that's kind of it. Any interaction we have is in private, any conversation we have is in private — so yes, our friendship is on the down low. Teddy's not ready – and he won’t be for a while – to come out.

PW: Have you filmed any “love scenes?”
Trevor: I haven't yet, but one is coming up – very soon in our shooting schedule. The writers are handling it very delicately. It won't be gratuitous, which I think is very true to real life as well. Teddy's not just going to jump in and be all for it right away. He's going to tip-toe into it. It's a very sweet storyline. It's gonna be a PG thing: very subtle, very sweet, very real.

It’s interesting that much is being made of how Teddy‘s same-sex love scenes will be handled “delicately” so that it comes across on TV as a “PG thing” because on the episode that aired last night, Teddy was seen in bed with a girl and it was made very clear that he was naked and unable to get aroused when she grabbed his penis. To me, that love scene didn’t feel delicate or PG. BUT … I do get that 90210 is trying to ease into the gay storyline which, IMHO, is better than not doing a gay storyline at all. If anything, maybe this storyline on the show will enlighten young people who are questioning that they are not alone in what they’re feeling … it may also enlighten other young people who like to bully others. Again, it may not be perfect but this storyline being prominently featured on popular TV series is a positive step in the right direction. I am really looking forward to the day when storylines like this don’t need to be such a big deal.
