Young People Of America You Can’t Back Out Of Politics Yet, Your President Says So! Posted: 06 Oct 2010 05:54 AM PDT If you even remotely pay attention to politics, you know Democrats across the country are worried about this year’s mid-term elections. So they’ve turned to their ace, President Obama. And he’s turning to his secret weapon: America’s youth. Next week, the Pres will turn to a page from his own successful campaign and try to get young people more involved in their local political process. President Obama will host a Youth Town Hall event next Thursday at 4PM, called ‘A Conversation With President Obama,’ that will be broadcast on MTV, BET, CMT and MTVu, and streamed online at MTV.com, BET.com and CMT.com. The commander in chief will take questions from the audience and via Twitter. The audience will be comprised of 250 young people “representing a cross-section of American youth,” according to the release. MTV News reports that the special will be co-hosted by MTV’s Sway Calloway, BET’s April Woodard and CMT’s Katie Cook. If you’re interested in attending the hourlong commercial-free special, visit MTV’s website for more information. “A Conversation With President Obama” will air at 4:00pm on Thursday, October 14. So there you go: the Commander in Chief is taking the time out of his busy workday to give you – or 250 young folks representing you – all the reasons you might need to get to the voting booth next month. So if you don’t get involved, don’t be mad if you don’t like the outcome.

Authorities Say Woman’s ‘Mexican Pirates’ Story Sounds Fishy Posted: 06 Oct 2010 05:47 AM PDT While Tiffany Hartley and her grieving-young-widow sob story make the media rounds, Mexican authorities are also talking. About the holes in Hartley’s story. Hartley made the news late last week, after her husband David was allegedly shot by pirates while the couple jet-skied on Falcon Lake, which straddles the Texas/Mexico border. Hartley says she tried to pull her husband out of the water, but was chased back to the US side of the lake by these thugged-out Mexi-pirates who, for whatever reason, let her live. He fell face-down into the water, and though she tried to pull him out, she claims one of the assailants threatened her with a gun before she was able to rescue him. “I couldn’t get him up, and I just kept hearing God tell me, ‘You have to go, you have to go,’” she told the “Today” show on Tuesday. “So I had to leave him so I could get to safety.” But four days and no Mexican witnesses later, the Mexican authorities are basically saying Hartley needs more people… or at least David’s body. Rolando Armando Flores Villegas, the State Police commander overseeing the search, told Texas paper the McAllen Monitor on Monday that no one in the area had reported hearing jet skis or gunshots. And the district attorney on the case, Marco Antonio Guerrero Carrizales, cast his own doubts on the story, pointing out that David’s jet ski itself still hasn’t been recovered, and his body is still missing despite the fact he was wearing a life vest. Police “are not certain that the incident happened the way that they are telling us,” Carrizales told the Monitor. In Tiffany’s defense, David’s parents are just as appalled as she is that anyone would insinuate she was involved in his death and/or disappearance. David’s parents Dennis and Pam slammed Mexican police for the way they have been handling the case, and hit back at any allegations their daughter-in-law could be hiding something. “I don’t think anything right now is being done,” Dennis told the AP. “I don’t think at this time Mexico is really doing anything.” “If they’re saying that this did not happen, that this was all staged, if that’s what they’re trying to pursue, they’re going the wrong way,” Pam said. “It did happen. My son is gone.” And Sigifredo Gonzalez, the Sheriff of Zapata, TX – where Tiffany fled to after the Mexi-pirates let her live – told the Today show today that he has no doubt that “Tiffany is saying the truth” and says a witness who does not know her coroborated her story. Unfortunately, his opinion doesn’t matter because David Hartley disappeared on the Mexico side of the lake… And he’s choosing to not join the search because it’s “dangerous.” Is it just us, or does this sound like the first five minutes of an episode of Snapped? A heavy rear can guarantee your chances of living longer, says a new study. This means that Jennifer Lopez, Nigella Lawson and Beyonce as well as other curvy women are in great shape to live longer thanks to their well-rounded -figures. Scientists have found that having a big bottom and thighs could help prevent metabolic disorders like heart disease, strokes and -diabetes. The study found that fat apparently grows differently in the upper and lower parts of the adult body, rather than remaining stable in both areas. Almost 30 men and women in the study were encouraged to gorge on ice-cream, chocolate, sugary drinks and other highly fattening food for eight weeks. Researchers measured body fat and fat cell size before and after the unhealthy diet regime. They found that on average the participants put on 5.5lb (2.5 kilos) of upper body fat and 3.3lb (1.5 -kilos) of lower body fat. But there was a striking difference in that fat cells around the stomach and heart grew in size – but not number – by producing more fat synthesising proteins.he reverse was true for thigh fat cells in the lower part of the body which increased in number, but did not get bigger. Dr Michael Jensen, research leader at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, said the findings challenge the concept that the number of fat cells doesn’t vary between the upper and lower body. It also supports the idea that increased capacity to produce lower-body fat cells creates some form of protection to the upper body and potentially helps to prevent -serious metabolic diseases. “The cellular mechanisms are different. The accumulation of abdominal fat happens largely by individual cells expanding in size – while with fat gain in the femoral or lower body it is the number of fat cells that increases. So, different mechanism, different impact,” the Daily Express quoted Jensen as saying. In -future, drugs that alter the way fat is stored around the body could be used to combat -diseases.
