The 2010 Quidditch World Cup Takes Place In NYC

Posted: 14 Nov 2010 01:43 PM PST

Lest you think that the fictional game of Quidditch exists only in the fantastical world of Harry Potter, think again. This weekend, NYC played host to the 2010 Quidditch World Cup tournament that pitted real life muggle teams against one another for ultimate supremacy. Now, because muggles can’t fly, the game of Quidditch as described in the Harry Potter books has to be adapted a bit for human play but as you can see from the following photos, the game can be played in real life almost the way it is played in the Harry Potter books:

“Harry Potter” enthusiasts have gathered at DeWitt Clinton Park in Hell’s Kitchen to watch quidditch leap from the pages of author J.K. Rowling onto the playing field. Five years ago, Middlebury College students in Vermont adapted the literary sport into a live-action, non-flying field game. Now, seven non-magical people, or “muggles,” form a team, straddle brooms and chase a ball. “This sort of developed from Sunday bocce into Sunday quidditch. It was just a time when we got together and played, and all of a sudden in over the past five years it’s become something a lot more than that,” said Quidditch World Cup founder Rainy Johnson. Organizers said competitors came from as far as Texas, Florida and Canada to take part in the tournament and two of the teams are from New York City. “It’s a fantasy game. When you read the game, you’re like, ‘Wow, I want to play this.’ And then someone creates a game that muggles can play, and now we’re here and we’re playing 46 other schools. That’s amazing,” said player Chris Shaw. Never in their wildest dreams did the organizers imagine that their love of the Harry Potter franchise would turn into such a large-scale sporting event that attracts legions of fans of the boy wizard. “We’re all a bunch of book lovers and if it wasn’t for this one book, or seven books, we wouldn’t be here. And it’s so fantastic to be able to see our love bring us out here on this gorgeous day, to be able to run around and have so much fun,” said Christine Scott, a diehard Harry Potter fan. The weekend-long competition’s winning team will earn a big trophy and international quidditch bragging rights, but some players said being in such a welcoming community made them already feel like winners. “For us, it’s just about having fun, enjoying ourselves. It’s about the experience, the atmosphere. You know, having a bunch of people around that feel the same way you do,” said player Chelsea Harris. International Quidditch Association officials estimate more than 100 schools now play the game.

OMG … looks like fun, yeah? After the jump, check out some video footage from this weekend’s Quidditch World Cup tournament in NYC this weekend …

Leave it to the hipsters to take a make-believe game and turn it into a bona fide sports tournament. Bless their hearts … at least they keep things interesting (if oftentimes annoying). Still, I really love the idea of real people playing almost real Quidditch. It actually looks like fun … for the spectators ;) What do y’all think … do YOU think you’d like to participate in next year’s Quidditch World Cup?

Disneyland After Dark

Posted: 14 Nov 2010 01:34 PM PST

After David and I had so much fun at the Sanrio Pop-Up Tour carnival here in LA Friday night we thought it would be fun to head on down to Anaheim, CA to spend some quality time together at Disneyland. I am still very bummed that we missed out visiting Disney during HalloweenTime this year so I wanted to make sure we made it down to see the Xmas edition of Disneyland:

We got to Disneyland at around 6:30 but it was already pitch black … nonetheless, we had an absolute blast! After the jump, check out some of the photos we snapped last night and see which BIG Disneyland star we got to meet and take a photo with …

We started out the night at California Adventure because we wanted to check out the new Tron attractions. The elecTRONica Dance Party was really fun … mainly because you can drink booze :) David and I spent over an hour playing video games in Flynn’s Arcade (Donkey Kong, Joust, Rampage, Frogger and of course Tron) … ’twas fun. After we finished in California Adventure, we made our way over to Disneyland for the rest of the night. We got to take photos with Minnie Mouse at the end of our night … we always have so much fun at Disney :D

Even tho I’m so not ready for Xmas/Hannukah it’s hard not to get into the spirit of the season at Disneyland. We had so much fun … and last night’s trip to Disney was prolly our last of the year so, we made the most of it.

David’s college BFF Diana is visiting us today so we’ll be chillin’ with her tonight … it’s hard to believe the weekend is already over … hope yours is going swimmingly! Happy Sunday!!

Hot Dude Of The Week: Charlie Scheerer

Posted: 14 Nov 2010 12:31 PM PST

It is time, once again, to say hello to the Hot Dude of the Week! Today we get to meet a fine freckled chap who was photographed by Aldo Rossi for the pages of the September 2010 issue of TĂȘtu magazine. Say hello to Charlie Scheerer:

I have to say, there is something about the Abercrombie & Fitchness of this photo that really appeals to me. Bruce Weber has a knack for taking classic “all American” photos like this but Aldo Rossi seems to have that same knack. Charlie looks like a lifeguard that I would not mind getting a little help from … you know, should my life be in danger and I be in need of mouth to mouth resuscitation. The weather may be gettin’ chilly here in SoCal but this photo of Charlie sure brings back fond memories of the warmer days of Summer. Enjoy!!

Watch: The Red Band Trailer For ‘Love And Other Drugs’

Posted: 14 Nov 2010 11:53 AM PST

Love and Other Drugs, the film that stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway and opens next weekend, has just released a NSFW red band trailer in order to give viewers a real taste of what’s in store when the movie opens on November 24. Previously, we got to see the fairly sexy movie poster but this new red band trailer shows that the film will be kinda raunchy as well:

There is ample cussing, middle-fingering and other naughty bits in this new trailer … including a scene where Jake‘s character shows off his engorged penis to a hospital nurse (sadly, said penis is hidden in his boxer shorts, not on full fleshy display). Sound like something you might want to see? Check it out, after the jump …

Um … yes, yes, yes … I *WILL* be seeing this movie when it opens on the 24th. While I find it a bit disconcerting to hear Jake swear so much, I think I can live with it just to see how nekkid he gets in the film. Yes, I’m being totally gratuitous … sue me :) How about you? Does this red band trailer make you want to see Love and Other Drugs when it opens in theaters next week as well?

Robert Pattinson Goes Swimming In His Underwear

Posted: 14 Nov 2010 11:38 AM PST

Robert Pattinson, who is currently in Brazil with his leading lady co-star (and rumored paramour) Kristen Stewart filming the upcoming sequel The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, was spotted on a little swimming excursion with K. Stew (not pictured). After trying on a pair of swimming board shorts, R. Pattz decided instead to strip down to his underwear and take a dip wearing only his skivvies:

In the first pic, the one where Rob is wearing the board shorts, it looks like he is in his pale Edward Cullen vampire make-up so perhaps he was filming a scene there. The rest of the photos are clearly of Rob wearing only his (Hanes?) underwear … so my guess is that the underwear photos were taken when he was NOT filming scenes for Breaking Dawn. To be honest, who cares why he was stripped down to his underwear … I just hope he decides to do it again and that the photogs are around to snap photos again. I also hope that he decides to wear better fitting underwear, preferably in white ;)

Lindsay Lohan Surfaces In Los Angeles

Posted: 14 Nov 2010 10:24 AM PST

In the last week or so, Lindsay Lohan has been enjoying life OUTSIDE of rehab on daily excursions to shopping malls, restaurants and movie theaters … but yesterday, the currently rehabbing L. Lo enjoyed a full day of absolute freedom here in LA without any chaperoning from the Betty Ford Center. Apparently, Lindsay received a day pass away from the rehab facility due to good behavior (or whatever) so she decided to return to her home in West Hollywood, CA … behold:

According to TMZ, once her father Michael Lohan caught wind that she was back in town, he showed up uninvited to her apartment … and was brutally rebuffed. Apparently, Lindsay was non too-pleased that he showed up at her doorstep unannounced so she sent him away. I understand that Lindsay got to spend the night in her own home last night and will return to her Sober Living residence later today. Furthermore, there’s a chance that the happy reunion Lindsay enjoyed with her estranged father last week might have soured already. Dina Lohan, the parent who is closer with Lindsay, reportedly refuses to engage in rehab therapy with Daddy Lohan. Dina and possibly Lindsay are pissed that photos of Michael and Lindsay hanging out last week started making the rounds immediately … I guess they blame Michael for alerting the paparazzi to their hang out sessions. I gotta say … all of this “good work” that Lindsay Lohan has been reportedly doing at the Betty Ford Center really seems to be falling apart. None of any of this sounds positive at all … unchaperoned day passes, new feuds with family members, scheduled unmonitored photoshoots … it sounds like business as usual in Lindsay Lohan Land. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out but, yeah, all of this is starting to look messy … and that can’t be good for a trainwreck like L. Lo.

Britney Spears Enjoys A Late Night Rendezvous With A Mystery Man

Posted: 14 Nov 2010 09:53 AM PST

Yesterday we saw a couple photos of our dear Britney Spears as she made her way into the Conway Studios recording studio Friday to record a “monster” song with her new album producers Dr. Luke and Max Martin. After she completed her recording session, she posted a tweet message to fans and then went out on the town … with a mystery guy who is believed to be her album producer Max Martin:

It’s unclear who Britney was creepin’ around with on Friday night … but it wasn’t Jason Trawick. Rumor has it that Britney and her mystery guy (Max Martin?) first went to Nobu for dinner and then made their way to the Sunset Marquis Hotel … for a meeting perhaps? There is another rumor that claims that Britney and Max then went to her home in Calabasas, CA after they left the hotel together. HMMMM. Now, take all of this talk with a huge grain of salt … still, it’s interesting, no?

Yesterday, in the bright shining daylight, Britney enjoyed a fun frogurt date with another man … her son Sean Preston. After the jump, check out a couple photos of our dear Britney and Sean P. lookin’ as cute as can be on their frogurt date together …

OMG! Sean P. is the cutest little kid ever … but with the chocolate smeared on his nose?! ADORABLE!! It’s unclear where Jayden James was but … Britney’s parents Lynne and Jamie Spears are in town so mebbe they were babysitting? Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that Britney and Sean had a great date together.

But getting back to the whole Britney and possibly Max Martin thing … I wonder if we’ll see more photos of the two of them creepin’ around after dark as work progresses on her new album. What do y’all think … IF Britney and Max are, in fact, hanging out after dark do you think they’re keepin’ things professional or … romantical?

Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson Are Gettin’ Hitched!

Posted: 14 Nov 2010 09:05 AM PST

Back in July we got our FIRST LOOK at Jessica Simpson and her new (yet still married) boyfriend (and former NFLer) Eric Johnson making their public debut as a couple (despite the fact that the pair had been romantically involved since May) and today we learn that Jess and Eric have gotten themselves engaged to be married! Immediately after Jess and Eric went public with their lurve, Jessica has been sharing her affection for Eric with the world as much as possible (who could forget that smoochy photo of the pair on Twitter?). It would seem that the couple’s 6-month dalliance has really turned into something substantial … cuz they’re gettin’ hitched, y’all!

Jessica Simpson is off the market! Sources confirm to UsMagazine.com that the singer, 30, became engaged to beau Eric Johnson on Thursday, just days after Us broke the news that her ex-husband, Nick Lachey, popped the question to Vanessa Minnillo, his love of nearly five years. Simpson and Lachey, 37, split in 2005, after three years of marriage. On Saturday, Simpson flashed a sizable ring on her left hand during an appearance at Dillard’s at Oak Park Mall in Kansas City. The Texas native began dating the former NFL player in May while he was estranged from his first wife, stylist Keri Johnson; their divorce was finalized five months later.

Yes, it is curious that first we learn that Jessica‘s ex-husband Nick Lachey got engaged to be married to his longtime girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo and then we learn that Jessica is newly engaged to Eric just a few days later. Now, I’m not saying that Jessica got engaged because Nick did (necessarily) but … well, the timing is just curious that’s all. I think this engagement has more to do with the fact that Eric finally got recently divorced from his wife than anything else. To be honest, this engagement seems a bit fast … where Nick and Vanessa had been dating for 5 years before deciding to get married, Jess and Eric have only been dating for a mere 6 months. Still, let’s sent our heartiest congratulations to Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson (Jericca? Erica?) on their happy news … and best of luck for a successful marriage.
