Jill Scott DISHES To "Rolling Out" On Raising Her Son, Infatuation & Blacks In The Media Posted: 20 Sep 2013 08:32 AM PDT In the latest issue of ROLLING OUT, one of our absolute fave fab chicks Jill Scott talks about love and infuation, the difficulties of raising a son and comments on how American media protrays Blacks.  See the highlights inside and check out her commentary on racism.....    Baggage Claim star Jill Scott covers the latest issue of ROLLING OUT where she reveals her thoughts about how reality tv and its impact on the worldwide perception of Black Americans.  And we can't help but agree with her on that one.  Here are the highlights: On raising her 4-year-old son Jett: “There are some things I have to instill in him as we move along. I need him to be a thinker. I don’t believe we have to make ourselves fit into someone’s comfortable space. This is a real world and we are real people. Compassion for other people counts. You have to think about your surroundings — with the world, not just America. Be mindful of where you are, and I hate to say it, but be on guard. That burns me up that I have to think about my own protection. It’s a part of where we are, where we have always been. It’s just open now. I prefer [racism] to be open and in my face. At least I know what I’m dealing with. We all know what we’re dealing with.” On negative portrayals of Blacks in the media: “If I’m in another country and all I see [are] McDonald’s commercials, why wouldn’t I think that’s what America is?” she says rhetorically. “When the representation of an entire people is based on fictitious reality shows, it builds a certain box of who and what we are. To be perfectly frank, we’ve got the wives of doctors fighting in ball gowns. The television and the Internet are creating boxes for us and I believe we are starting to fall for it. Why wouldn’t everybody else? [There] has to be a balance. We’re not so simple. I think that’s a big part of the problem. You can’t expect someone to think differently if they are only shown a specific image. Unfortunately, it’s a tarnished image.”   On her ideals of love vs. infatuation: Love is hard. Finding someone to fall in love with is the hardest part of all. Infatuation is easy. We get caught up in someone’s looks, or their money, but not the person. Or, we’re into someone for a couple of months and then the novelty fades and we’re on to the next. Love is bigger than just the emotion for the moment. Love requires patience. It requires communication. It requires and demands mutual respect and understanding. In this quick-paced world, we want immediate gratification. Our idea of love and having that is great, but the immediate gratification of having it all is what most people are after in this microwavable world. That’s what makes it such a challenge. We have to change our mentality if we want relationships that will last. Finding someone or meeting someone who is equally yoked — that’s major. Not just financially, but someone who is willing to participate with you in life and love. BONUS: Jill Scott also dropped by The Breakfast Club where she talked about working on two new albums (including a disc of lullabies), her comedic role in "Baggage Claim” (Sept. 27th), and revealed that she had a run-in with fellow diva Anita Baker. Though she didn't go into detail, she hinted that she didn't appreciate Ms. Baker's attitude. Ms. Philly also sang the praises of Philly-native Meek Mill, but cautioned about the traps of success and how his style of rap has changed. “He’s been dope for a long time and I wish him luck, and success, and focus. IN JAIL! Mack Maine Turns Himself In Over Assault & Battery Charges Posted: 20 Sep 2013 08:13 AM PDT After an August incident in OKC aboard a YMCMB tour bus, Mack Maine has turned himself in to jail this morning due to felony charges.   Deets inside... Rapper and YMCMB President Mack Maine, government name Jermaine Preyan, is currently in lock up. He turned himself in to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office Friday morning, according to TMZ, due to his recent assault charges.  His bail has been set at $9,000.  No word if any of the Cash Money Billionaires will come help their homie out. Mack was charged with aggravated assault and battery with great bodily injury after a woman, Rachel Reed, accused the rapper of reaching down her shirt, fondling her breasts, and punching her friend in the jaw all aboard YMCMB's tour bus in OKC. BABY FAB: Tiki Barber & Traci Johnson EXPECTING Their First Child + Shonda Rhimes ADOPTS Third Daughter! Posted: 20 Sep 2013 07:27 AM PDT Retired NY Giants running back Tiki Barber is expecting his first child with new wife Traci Johnson.  Get the deets on the announcement inside and hear the good news about Shonda Rhimes adopting her third child. Former NBC Sports personality Tiki Barber appears on an upcoming episode of Bethenny (airing next Tuesday) where he and his mistress-turned-wife Traci Johnson (a former NBC intern) revealed that they are expecting their first child in December.  Tiki rubbed her bump while telling the audience. You may recall that Traci BEGAN her relationship with Tiki around the time his then-wife, Ginny Barber, was 8-months pregnant with twins (or at least that's how far along she was when he walked out the door).  Tiki and Traci went on to marry eight days after his divorce from Ginny (the mother of his four children) was finalized.  Classy dude. Chris Brown Tells JET Mag His Issues With Jay-Z, The Media & The Rihanna/Karrueche Saga Posted: 20 Sep 2013 06:40 AM PDT In the October 14th issue of JET magazine, Chris Brown opens up about a variety of topics, including his relationships with Rihanna and Karrueche Tran, why he doesn't understand how Jay-Z gets a pass, the media and how he relates to Trayvon Martin.   TheYBF.com has the very first look inside... It's easy to see where the 24-year-old is coming from, but it's just as easy to see his anger & perspective as a typical famous 20-something who doesn't quite get the bigger picture (or his responsibility in it)...yet.  Maybe we'll see more growth on his upcoming sixth studio album, X, scheduled for a November 2013 release. We've got a few highlights from Datwon Thomas' JET magazine cover story with Mr. Breezy.  Check 'em below: On his beef with the media “The media is full of yellow journalism. A lot of things I say, they will flip it. Instead of them getting off on all the positive stuff that I do, they will bring out the negative and draw out that story.” On his beef with Jay-Z “No disrespect, because I’m a fan, but nobody brings up the fact that [Jay Z] stabbed somebody and sold drugs. He gets a pass.” On Trayvon Martin “I identify with Trayvon 100 percent as far as living in 2013 and still dealing with blatant racism. This generation is so used to racism that it’s normal; we don’t care. We aren’t on drugs or catching AIDS, but they still look at us as ni**as.” On controlling his anger issues “You have to go through the struggle before you can get to the good part. I don’t try to lash out at people, or be as mad or impulsive as I used to be.  I got to the point where it’s only so much you can take from the master, you feel me? I’ve taken my fair share of lashings.” On his relationships with Karrueche Tran & Rihanna "Relationships are the most difficult part. That’s why I was honest with those two girls and I put out that video. My ex and I broke up because of the “situation” and she had moved on. I fell in love with another girl. Then my ex came back, so it was like, 'What is a man to do?'  I told them both the truth. I didn’t do the sucker role."    Chris also reveals in the issue if he calls himself "single", and whether he prefers just or woman to hold him down...or does he need several? The issue hits newsstands on September 23.

Justin Timberlake Drops "TKO" Track + Mary J. Blige's "This Christmas" Posted: 20 Sep 2013 05:55 AM PDT Justin Timberlake is giving folks another peek at Part 2 of his The 20/20 Experience album.  Check out the upbeat "TKO" inside, plus Mary J. Blige is bringing in the Holidays early with "This Christmas".... As JT prepares to release Part 2 of The 20/20 Experience on September 30th, he giving you something to hold you over until then.  His brand new track "TKO" is his throwback Timbaland sound, since Timbo produced this whole Part 2 album. Justin told Ryan Seacrest in a recent interview that the songs he's releasing now are a bit darker than the songs he released over the summer. And he's giving fabs a major preview during the iHeartRadio concert this weekend in Vegas. "I have not put the set list together yet because, as you know, I procrastinate on things like that," he said, "but we are looking at playing some new material from the second half of this record. So I'm excited for people to hear it." Fresh off their intimate San Diego wedding last weekend, Bron Bron & 'Vannah are keepin it laid back in Italy doing lots of sightseeing and relaxing during their honeymoon. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Solange Talks Style, Hair & Parking Lot Pimpin' On "106 & Park" Posted: 19 Sep 2013 03:07 PM PDT Solange Knowles brought her fabness to the "106 & Park" stage last night and reunited with her back-in-the-day movie co-star Bow Wow.  And we learned about her hair opinions, her most unstylish moments, and the inspiration behind "Lovers In The Parking Lot" & Saint Records... Johnson Family Vacation stars Bow Wow & Solange reunited for last night's episode of "106 & Park" where Solo premiered her "Lovers In A Parking Lot" video. The YBF chick kept it fabulous in an all white chic look, so it was only right to ask how she does it so effortlessly. When asked about being a fashion icon, she brushed it off saying she's nobody's icon (we kinda disagree with that). And even revealed her not-so-stylish moments when she's not "on". "When I'm taking my son to school in the morning, I look like boo boo. You can make sweats cute but I don't even try. In fact, a lot of the times, this is so trife, but I try to sleep in whatever I'm taking him to school in." As for that one thing that gets on her nerves: "When I'm going through the airport and I have to do the scanner. It gets on my nerves because I don't know what all they scan. But I just imagine some perv looking at the whole system and it really freaks me out." On the inspiration behind her self-directed "Lovers In The Parking Lot" video shot back in Houston: "The song has reference to lovers in the parking lot. It's a very southern thing that existed back in the day. You went with your boo and parking lot pimped. If you were single, you just parked your car and got as many numbers as you could. So it was a reference to that adolescent love affair there." The German-alcohol brand drew out the Black Hollywood elite for its lavish launch party, including a pleather-clad Diddy. So...This Is Happening? Miley Cyrus & Mike Will Made It Do A Raunchy Shoot...Together Posted: 19 Sep 2013 01:09 PM PDT Mike Will Made It has been producing tracks for Miley Cyrus' ratchet era, namely that "We Can't Stop" song.  So it's only right that they hook up in other ways.  We're were already hearing that those hookups were more than just in the studio.  And then, these pics came out.... Mike Will Made It, who has risen to music fame for producing for Ciara, Future, Kanye, Jay-Z, Kelly Rowland and plenty more, has taken the next step on the Hollywood publicity train.  And that's hooked up with a pop starlet that is on the tongues of everyone.  Even if it's not totally true, the twosome are surely playing on the rumors at the very least. Pics from a Terry Richardson shoot featuring a newly single & half naked Miley & a fully clothed Mike surfaced today on the photographer's Tumblr.  And like any Terry Richardson shoot, the pics are pretty provacative.  Especially since we've been hearing little birdies spilling dabbles of tea about these two possibly being more than just work buddies.  Not sure when this obsession with the non twerking Miley Cyrus will end, but we're sure Mike Will is about to squeeze that ish for all it's worth.   Photos: TerrysDiary.com

Brit ISH: Idris Elba Dishes On His Former Marriage & The Son Who WASN'T His For October 2013 GQ Cover + Mel B Drops New Video "Once In My Life" Posted: 19 Sep 2013 11:42 AM PDT It's all about the British invasions.  Idris Elba is having a very GQ year nabbing his second cover, this time for the American October 2013 issue.    Check out the star from across the pond showing off his three piece skills, plus Mel B. drops her first video in 8 years for "Once In My Life"... Oh, hello Mr. Elba.  The Pacific Rim & Mandela star is the October 2013 cover guy and daddy to a cute daughter is ushering in fall the right way. In addition to a special feature all about how a man should rock a three piece suit or look, the 6'3, 200 pounds of fineness talks about his former marriage and the baby momma who lied to him about a son who wasn't his, all while vacationing (and DJ'ing) in Ibiza. On his ex wife, a London woman he had an on-and-off relationship with and married at 26 “I liked the idea of being married.  I was focused in on what I was trying to do in my life. And my girl supported me.” On their divorce, which happened when his now ex-wife was pregnant “I had to keep going back and forth to New York, to London, to try and make a bit of money real quick.” Back in the States, Elba’s wife “didn’t adjust to the culture as quickly as I did.” And he was gone a lot. “We just had a hard time. The next thing you know, we broke up.” On struggling as an actor “The apartment we had lived in together was in Jersey City. So when I left, I was sofa-hopping here and there and got to a place where I was parking it in Jersey somewhere and just camping down for the night.  I mean, it was like, ‘Fuck, where did I go wrong?’ I had a lot of promise in England, you know? ‘What the fuck are you doing here? Your visa’s going to run out soon. You’re going to have a baby. What the fuck are you doing?’ That’s what’s going through my head...I was studying [for "the Wire"] in my van for the auditions.” On selling weed ..."I was running with cats. I mean, I was DJ’ing, but I was also pushing bags of weed; I was doing my work. I had to. I know that sounds corny, but this is the truth.” He says he’d sell drugs at Carolines, and meanwhile all these successful guys would come through: D. L. Hughley, Dave Chappelle. “All those black comedians, they knew me as a doorman.” On his unique ability to blend in, as a kid and now “I sort of blended into the background quite a bit. I wasn’t the guy that was a big personality. I was the tall, silent, quiet type....I call it the invisible factor.  On any ordinary street, walking down in London Soho in a cap, I’m just a fucking tall black man walking along.” On the son he THOUGHT was his, but discovered the baby momma lied to him “The celebration of having a son—from a man’s perspective, it’s massive.” He told friends about it. He told reporters about it. Then came the suggestion—not from the child’s mother, but from elsewhere—that not everything was what it appeared to be. “It wasn’t immediately obvious—well, it was, because he didn’t look like me,” Elba says. “But it wasn’t immediately obvious what had gone down.” Eventually, Elba decided to take a paternity test, which showed the child wasn’t his. “To be given that and then have it taken away so harshly,” he says, “was like taking a full-on punch in the face: POW.” “You know, the truth is—like, even admitting it, I’ll probably get laughed at for the rest of my life. But it is just tragic, and it happened.” He looks directly at me when he says this. “But I wasn’t knocked out. I stood right the fuck back up, and I ain’t aiming to take another punch in the face ever again. Do you understand what I’m saying? It happened to me. SPOTTED: Keshia Knight Pulliam's Hairfinity Shoot + Bambi & Lil' Scrappy On Kandi Koated Nights Posted: 19 Sep 2013 09:29 AM PDT Keshia Knight Pulliam was spotted at a photo shoot recently.  See BTS pics inside and check out Lil' Scrappy and Bambi on the set of Kandi Koated Nights.   Actress Keshia Knight Pulliam was spotted on the set of her shoot for Hairfinity yesterday. Keshia tweeted, "Surprise... I'm the new brand ambassador for hairfinity!!!! We're shooting the campaign right now!!" In addition to her new gig as a spokeswoman, Keshia recently filmed the tv movie "The Love Letter" and her philanthropic organization, Kamp Kizzy, was honored at LudaDay Weekend.   Also in Atlanta.... Rapper and "BBW LA" star Bambi was spotted out and about in Atlanta yesterday with "LAHH ATL" star Lil Scrappy.
