Prince William missed his mum on his wedding day: ‘She would’ve loved the day’

Posted: 29 May 2012 09:01 AM PDT

Katie Couric managed to score one of the biggest "gets" for a journalist – she got exclusive interviews with Prince William and Prince Harry, both promoting their grandmother's Golden Jubilee celebrations, which begin this coming weekend. I think the full ABC interview comes out tonight? Damn, I'll have to remember to watch it. Anyway, People Magazine just got another excerpt from the interview – William talking about his mother, and how his wedding was "the one time since she's died where I've . . . thought to myself it would be fantastic if she was here, and just how sad really for her, more than anything, not being able to see it." Here's more:

Despite the overabundance of dignitaries in attendance on his 2011 wedding day to Kate Middleton, there was one person missing, though very much on Prince William’s mind: his mother, Princess Diana.

“Very difficult” is how the prince recalls her absence that day, as he reveals during an ABC interview airing Tuesday night, as part of The Jubilee Queen with Katie Couric.

“I sort of prepared myself beforehand so that I was sort of mentally prepared … I didn’t want any wobbly lips or anything going on,” says William, 29. “It’s the one time since she’s died, where I’ve … thought to myself it would be fantastic if she was here, and just how sad really for her, more than anything, not being able to see it.”

Diana was killed in a Paris car crash in August 1997, when William was 15.

“I think she … she would have loved the day and I think, hopefully, she’d be very proud,” he tells Couric. “I’m just very sad that she’s never going to get a chance to meet Kate.”

Prince Harry, 27, also gets a chance to remark on his brother’s wedding day and what it would have meant to their mother.

“I think she had the best seat in the house, probably,” says Harry. “But yeah, she would have loved to have been there.”

[From People]

God, that is super-sad to think about. Diana would have loved to see William's wedding. She would have had a lot to say about the planning of the wedding, and I think she would have had a lot to say about Kate Middleton too. We've played this "What if, what if" game before, to mixed results, though. I still think that had Diana lived and seen her boys grow into adult men, the women that Harry and William choose as girlfriends and wives would be a lot different.

Here are some of released videos we have of the Couric interviews. I enjoy the American tendency to completely overlook Prince Charles. Like, people (specifically Americans) act like William is going to inherit the throne after the Queen. Which won't happen.

Gregg Allman, 64, on his 7th marriage, to 24 year-old, “this time, I am really in love”

Posted: 29 May 2012 08:33 AM PDT

You may have heard this story already, but it was news to me and it made me raise an eyebrow, so I figured you might want to hear it. Gregg Allman, 64, is a founding member of 70s rock blues band The Allman Brothers. (Midnight Rider, Ramblin Man.) He’s promoting a new memoir called My Cross to Bear, which is about the tragedies he’s suffered along with his struggle with addiction. (He went to rehab 11 times, and didn’t kick drugs and alcohol until recently.) Allman has been married six times, with his most famous ex wife being Cher. He was married to Cher from 1975 to 1979 and they have a son, Elijah Blue Allman, 35, together. From his various other wives and ex girlfriends he has two other sons, Michael Sean Allman, 45, and Devon Allman, 39. He also has daughters Delilah Island Allman, 31, and Layla Brooklyn Allman, 17. Allman is currently engaged, to a woman who is younger than most of his kids. He calls her age “irrelevant” and has some convoluted logic for their romance, which he had a little trouble explaining on Piers Morgan’s show. Here’s more:

Perhaps the seventh time’s the charm for Allman Brother’s founding member, Gregg Allman.

The rocker revealed on Piers Morgan Tonight that he plans to give the institution one more shot– this time with fiancée Shannon Williams, who is 40 years his junior.

Williams, 24, joined her soon-to-be husband on the program as he promoted his new memoir, My Cross to Bear, and when asked what she might think of becoming wife number seven, he quickly rose to defend their May-December romance.

“That’s not what she’s becoming,” he responded. “She’s becoming wife number one. I don’t have a wife. Haven’t had one for years.”
To further his point he added, “This time, I am really in love.”

Allman then appeared on CBS This Morning to again defend his relationship with Williams, calling it an “altogether different” experience than his previous wives because he is presently “sober.”

[From ET Online]

Piers Morgan asked Allman how many times he’s been in love in his life and he said “twice” despite the fact that he’s been married six times to date, adding that he “didn’t reciprocate” his other wives’ love. That’s cold.

There’s no fool like an old fool. This guy didn’t seem, how do I put this, all there when I saw clips of his interviews on Piers Morgan and CBS This Morning. (below) Most of his kids are older than his fiance, and if this marriage lasts more than a couple of years (doubtful) this very young woman stands to inherit everything.

Allman’s fiance Shannon, 24. She looks like Lauren Conrad here:

Allman on CBS This Morning. He’s kind of slow and doesn’t get to the point. He talks about his relationships at around 4:45.

Michael Fassbender is a Star Wars geek, still has his Ewok village & Millennium Falcon

Posted: 29 May 2012 08:29 AM PDT

Here are some newish photos of Michael Fassbender over the weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix, looking very much like a kid in a candy store. Fassy's level of excitement for all things car and car-adjacent is a little bit… I don't know, off-putting for me. I'm not a car person, obviously, and when Michael and I get together, this will have to be something we work on. Like, will he expect me to support and be an equal participant in his car and racing enthusiasm? Or can I simply say, "It's your thing, sweetheart. I'm fine with this book. You go play with your toys"? What turns Fassy on more: a lady's sweetshop or a really beautiful car?

Fassy talked to a reporter at the Grand Prix too:

In other Fassy news, there are several new interviews out now for Fassy's promotion of Prometheus. GQ UK has a new video interview with him here, and I saw this quote that I loved – Fassy on whether he was ever a "sci-fi geek": "No. Not really. I liked Star Wars I suppose, which is pretty sci-fi. But I've never been someone who collected comic books or any of that sort of thing. Other than Star Wars, which I did collect lots of things. [Like the] Ewok village that I still have… and the Millennium Falcon." Yeah. Not a sci-fi geek but he still has the Millennium Falcon. GEEK!

Here's a video interview with Fassy from Digital Spy (GAH HIS VOICE!!!!!):

Do you want more of that GQ p0rn? Of course you do.

Rob Pattinson fell for ‘Hunger Games’ casting rumors: who should play Finnick?

Posted: 29 May 2012 07:54 AM PDT

Rob Pattinson

This is just a cute story and one that (even the most begrudging) fans of Robert Pattinson would appreciate for its self-deprecating nature. Apparently, there’s been quite a lot of buzz in the Hunger Games casting department in regard to the upcoming sequel, Catching Fire. In particular, online rumors (which likely originated on the movie’s IMDb board) have indicated that Robert Pattinson might have been a possibility for the coveted role of the sexy and seductive former victor Finnick. In an amusing twist, Rob has revealed that he initially believed these rumors, and he was crushed to learn that he was not in running for the role. Poor Sparkles, right?

Some rumors are so good, that they even get the movie stars involved believing. Even if it’s only for a few minutes.

Robert Pattinson woke up Saturday morning at the Cannes Film Festival, the morning after his triumphant premiere in Cosmopolis, and saw Internet reports that he was being considered for Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games.

“I woke up this morning and saw all these things about me being cast in The Hunger Games,” Pattinson tells USA TODAY. “I was kind of curious for a second. So I called my agent.”

The response?

“My agent was like, ‘No,’ ” Pattinson reports.

“(My agent) was like no one’s going to offer you that part,” Pattinson says, breaking into a laugh. “I was like, thanks for the reassurance.”

But Pattinson was riding a high after his new film Cosmopolis (due out in the U.S. in August) received a standing ovation in Cannes with girlfriend Kristen Stewart in attendance.

Even that was stressful. The ovation came after director David Cronenberg warned him that the Cannes audience can be harsh.

“David tells me the night before, ‘I’m fully expecting some boos,’” says Pattinson. “I was literally like, ‘Why are you telling me this?’”

“I literally didn’t watch one second of the movie, I was waiting for people to walk out,” says Pattinson. “I was expecting a fight.”

It was only hours afterward that Pattinson was able to wind down at the film’s after-party.

“It took a full three hours of continued panic,” says Pattinson. “Full adrenaline. It was just too weird.”

[From USA Today]

Poor Rob. Of course, he’s got a lot of stuff coming up in the new future including playing the soldier who led to the capture of Saddam Hussein. So Sparkles will be alright; in fact, he’ll be more than alright. Still, I can’t help but feel a little twinge of sorrow for his presumably downcast face when learning that he was not wanted for the role of Finnick.

On that note, who should play the seductive yet ultimately damaged Finnick? I’ve racked my brain on previous occasions for the answer to this question, and the only actor I can come up with is Taylor Kitsch. Thoughts?

Clint Eastwood’s daughter destroys $100,000 bag, thinks people don’t get “art”

Posted: 29 May 2012 07:53 AM PDT

You know those amazing, covetable Hermes Birkin bags that celebrities carry? New ones at the lowest price point cost more than my car, and the highest end models can sell for up to $150,000. Well Clint Eastwood’s daughter Francesca, 19, destroyed a gorgeous $100,000 crocodile skin Birkin as part of a photoshoot with her 30 year-old boyfriend, celebrity photographer Tyler Shields. The pair took photos as the bag was set on fire and cut in half with a chain saw. So Shields is probably to blame for this, although Francesca obviously went along with it. You might remember Shields from such dumb stunts as: Mischa Barton eating raw meat, Tamara Ecclestone rolling nude in a million pounds of real cash, and Lindsay Lohan getting shot.

Shields is now appearing on the Eastwood family reality show, “Mrs. Eastwood and Company,” and he’s using this latest stunt to promote it. He even plugs the show in the entry on his website with these photos. Here’s what he wrote:

For the people who don't know a Birkin is the most sought after bag in the entire world there is a waiting list and some of them can run upwards of $100,000. This is the red Crocodile Birkin VS the red $200 chainsaw and 4 dollars of gasoline! Make sure you check out MRS. EASTWOOD and COMPANY this SUNDAY and MONDAY NIGHT 10PM on E! Watch this bag get destroyed IT IS INSANE! Also click here to see a pair of Christian Louboutin's meeting their demise.

[From Tyler Shields]

Shields and Francesca wrecked some black Christian Louboutin pumps back in January, and those photos didn’t get as much attention of course, nor did they draw as much ire. There’s a big difference between ruining a $500-$800 pair of shoes and mutilating a purse that’s worth more than most families earn in a couple of years.

TMZ reports that people are trashing Francesca and sending her death threats over Twitter and Facebook, and her response is that people just don’t get it.

Clint Eastwood’s daughter has been bombarded with vicious online death threats after she publicly demolished a $100,000 Birkin bag in the name of art, TMZ has learned.

Francesca Eastwood, star of “Mrs. Eastwood and Company,” and her BF Tyler Shields took a chain saw to the pricey bag and then LIT IT ON FIRE …. which has angered dozens of fashionistas (and many who are just economically challenged).

Eastwood has been receiving death threats via Twitter and Facebook, such as:

– “Some of us actually have to work and live check 2 check, spoiled rotten bitch to burn 100k bag.”
– “You're a stupid whore. How f***ing dumb can you be.”
– “You should kill urself, ungrateful bitch – wasted money when families can’t eat.”

Sources close to Francesca tell us … the 19-year-old said she knew people would be shocked, but never expected this level of hatred. We’re told she’s been telling friends … people just don’t understand art.

[From TMZ]

You can read more comments on Tyler’s blog, including some that trash his style as well as his concept.

As much as people who live in the real world have trouble grasping the point of Shields’ brand of shock art, it’s clear that Francesa doesn’t “get” reality either. Of course people are going to be upset. (Although personal attacks and death threats are of course wrong.) It must be hard for a girl still in her teens, who will never have to willingly work a day in her life, to understand how wasteful this seems to a lot of people. I blame Shields for this, though.

What is poor Clint Eastwood saying about this? He’s already got to contend with that stupid reality show he wife insisted on doing. It’s got to be humiliating to see the antics his kids are up to. I used to see him as a Dirty Harry, Walt Kowalski type. Not anymore.

Francesca and Tyler are shown in October, 2011 and January, 2012. She’s also shown alone on 5-9-12 and 4-30-12. Credit: WENN.com. Birkin photos credit: TylerShields

Paris Hilton is seething with jealousy over Kim Kardashian’s fabulous life

Posted: 29 May 2012 07:50 AM PDT

Paris Hilton was all over the Cannes Film Festival. Don't even ask me why. I'm assuming she just came to party and be seen, although I'm sure she had "business" in town too and thus, an "official" reason for coming. Hilariously, Paris's former famewhore protégé Kim Kardashian was in town too, and Kim (and Kanye) soaked up most of the extra attention given to The Famewhores of Cannes. Virtually every blog ignored Paris, despite having new photos of her every single day. So once Paris's famewhore protégé has not only eclipsed her (Paris's) fame, but exceeded it so spectacularly, what is left in the famewhore wake? Jealousy. Seething, petty jealousy.

Fading star Paris Hilton is jealous of her former friend Kim Kardashian’s ever growing career success and A-list boyfriend, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.

The two socialites crossed paths several times last week during the Cannes International Film Festival and the former Simple Life star has since been lamenting to friends that she can’t stand her one-time pal’s flourishing television career and the attention Kardashian is getting from dating Kanye West.

As we previously reported, Paris and Kim have famously been mad at each other for years; however they did engage in some small talk last week during an embarrassing run-in on P-Diddy’s yacht, but the brief encounter had Hilton’s nerves frayed.

“Kim will always be a sore spot for Paris because she believes that without her Kim wouldn’t have the success she has in her life,” a source close to the situation tells RadarOnline.com. “Paris thinks Kim wasn’t a loyal friend to her and only used her to gain fame and that she is ungrateful for everything Paris claimed to do for her."

“Paris is extremely jealous of Kim’s success with her reality shows as Paris’ last foray in television was a complete flop. Her show on Oxygen was a ratings disaster and didn’t get renewed. Adding to Paris’ angst is that attention that Kim is getting from dating Kanye. Paris has been dating DJ Afrojack, but he’s nowhere near the fame league that Kanye is, and adding to that, the relationship has now cooled. He didn’t accompany Paris to Cannes and he didn’t go with her to Las Vegas for Memorial Day while he was working in Atlantic City. Afrojack is extremely busy with his gigs and plays nightly at clubs all over the country, and Paris isn’t going to go on the road with him and be a groupie. Paris looks at Kim’s life and the fact that she is constantly featured on the cover of entertainment and fashion magazines while she isn’t — and well, that stings.”

Once the best of friends and even both starring in sex tapes, their desire for fame has eclipsed their friendship. Paris' TV career has floundered while Kim's reality show empire with E! just brought in her family an estimated $40 million for the upcoming projects. The original celebutantes have battled over the years for the spotlight, which Kim seems to have taken away from Paris, especially with her high-profile romance.

During a television interview in Australia recently, Hilton was asked, "What about when you're not famous anymore, what are you going to do?" The 31-year-old responded by saying that she "just wants to be able to have children and have a normal life with my kids.” And, although she said it all with a smile, her publicist later made it clear that the heiress was not happy with being asked about losing her fame.

“Paris knows that Kim would have never been asked that question. Yes, she does have a very successful fragrance line but Paris thrives on the attention and she knows that Kim just gets a lot more than she does from the press, public, and even their mutual friends,” the insider says. “Paris is hoping that when she releases her upcoming album that her fans will embrace it. She has been working on it for several years now and hopes it will create a lot of buzz.”

Last July, Hilton became upset when Good Morning America reporter Dan Harris asked her if her "moment has passed" following the disappointing ratings she got for her reality show, The World According to Paris, and being overshadowed by her former friend Kim Kardashian.

A peeved Paris walked off camera, leading to what Harris called “a long, heated conversation with Hilton and her publicist” before taping of the segment resumed. “You never see Kim acting like that ever with the press, even when she is asked if her marriage to Kris Humphries was a sham, or any other grueling questions. Kim always handles herself with class, clearly something Paris can’t say,” the source says.

So, is there any chance the former friends can officially bury the hatchet for good? Not a chance, says our insider.

“Look, their friendship wasn’t a genuine relationship to start with, meaning, it was all about Paris,” the source says. ” Kim doesn’t think about Paris at all or miss her as a friend. Too much time has passed and they have both changed so much in that time. So while they may smile at each other at events they won’t be going out to lunch or dinner anytime soon.”

[From Radar]

Instead of trying to be Kim Kardashian, I think Paris Hilton should try to be Nicole Richie. Except that she's not smart enough to model herself after Nicole, and Paris isn't even smart enough to surround herself with people who would advise her to do something like that. But wouldn't that sort of work for Paris? Stop partying, get married, have a baby, remake herself into some kind of designer/businesswoman, get a supporting role as some kind of "host" on a reality show. That would be the smart way for her to proceed, but Paris is so dumb, she thinks that she should just stick with her old plan – which Kim Kardashian has just co-opted and improved. I would feel bad for Paris, but… yeah, that's not going to happen.

Look, Kim's old face!

Jessica Biel on marriage: ‘Nothing will really change, b/c I’m almost never home’

Posted: 29 May 2012 07:23 AM PDT

Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake's wedding plans continue unabated, despite the fact that they should both be running away from this wedding at full speed. But come hell or high water, Jessica is getting Justin down the aisle and she will put up with any and all acts of douchebaggery to become "Mrs. Timberlake". I tend to think the tabloids are right in this situation – the wedding will be going down this summer, probably in California.

Over the weekend, Jessica and JT threw themselves a huge engagement party. It was a cocktail party with the men in suits and the ladies in black dresses (like a funeral) except for Jessica, who wore "a leopard-print halter dress cinched at the waist with a hot pink belt and matching shoes." Wolfgang Puck catered. Some of the guests? Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Trace Ayala, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia DeRossi and Amy Adams. An insider tells Us Weekly, "Jessica and Justin were mingling both separately and together throughout the party… Jessica seems to be very close with Justin’s friends and vice versa. You can see that they have been dating for a long time and really know each others friends and family well. The party was a fun celebration and a preview of what’s to come with the wedding.” Jessica has really won her prize, hasn't she?

Yes, she has. In addition to becoming "Mrs. Timberlake", Jessica also managed to get Justin to sign on to her latest film – as a songwriter and singer! Jessica will star and produce The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea this year, and Justin has signed on to compose original music for the film, and serve as music supervisor. It will be JT's first musical work since 2009. The film shoots in the fall, lending more support to the idea of a summer wedding. Also: despite Biel's recent trip to Italy to meet with designers, sources close to Biel are still claiming that she wants a wedding gown designed by Monique Lhuillier. The same designer who did Britney Spears's wedding gown to Kevin Federline.

Last story: Jessica has a new interview with a French magazine, and she's talking about how she thinks "nothing will change" once she's a married lady. She's probably right.

She’s played everything from a distressed publicist to a noblewoman on the big screen, and now Jessica Biel is looking at a completely new role in real life: housewife.

“To me, nothing will really change, because I’m almost never home,” the Total Recall actress, 30, tells the French magazine Gala in a translated interview. “But when I am home, I enjoy cooking.”

Some specialties she might serve up to soon-to-be husband Justin Timberlake?

“I especially love making cupcakes,” she says, while admitting that when she attempts to customize recipes, “it’s a total disaster, but I’ve also had some pleasant surprises, like recently when I managed to make zucchini fritters.”

Overall, once they tie the knot (possibly over the summer), “I don’t think our marriage will change anything,” she says. And while that may turn out not to be true, she does think “it will be a challenge finding a balance between my private life, family and work, and I’m ready.”

She also describes herself as “someone who lets things happen naturally,” saying she is not sure if she wants to have a child right away.

“For me, getting married doesn’t mean we should limit ourselves to some predefined idea. Rather, it’s an opportunity to explore new things in life, ” says Biel.

And while fans may ogle Timberlake’s good looks and hot moves, for Biel, there are three distinct qualities she finds admirable in her future husband, 31: “The ability to communicate well … to be able to express his feelings. Then, loyalty. And, finally, honesty.”

[From People]

Oh for the love of God. Jessica, girl. We need to talk. No, scratch that. I'm not going to waste my breath. But it feels like "More tears are shed over answered prayers than unanswered ones." This is what she wants, and I don't think she's really given it much thought beyond the wedding. The simple thought of "What will Justin Timberlake be like as a husband?" is enough to give me a panic attack, and I'm not the one pledging myself to this douchebag.

Britney’s fiance Jason Trawick’s video message in bed: sweet or too personal?

Posted: 29 May 2012 05:45 AM PDT

This came out yesterday, but since it was a holiday I didn’t see it until after we’d checked out for the day. Britney Spears’ fiance, Jason Trawick, recorded a message to her in bed declaring his love for her and telling her how proud he was of her for working a couple days on the X Factor. I’ve never seen Trawick speak, so his voice seemed strange to me. I think that was more due to the fact that he was recording the message in bed and seemed sleepy in the video. It also looks like he has clear braces on. His lips are puffing out like he has braces.

We’ve heard that Britney is having problems on set, that she’s left at least twice during taping without warning, and that she took at least four performances off during her first day. People are scrutinizing her closely, and so her fiance is trying to show her support. He did that in this oddly intimate video that some say is way too personal to be posting publicly. Here’s what he said:

Princess. We just completed our first weekend in Austin, on X Factor. I just want to say I’m very proud of you, and I love you so much. Congratulations. Now get back in here so we can go to sleep.”

I can see how this guy would think it was sweet to give some words of support to his fiance. Everyone is ragging on Britney, and it’s probably wearing on her. I get the impression that she’s sensitive, and that this is probably a lot for her to handle. We’ve heard that Jason is with her while she’s been judging on X Factor, and in his mind he surely thinks it’s fine to record a message of encouragement for her. It would have been, if he either would have 1. kept it private between the two of them or 2. was sitting up in a chair, and wasn’t all sleepy and sexy sounding. That was weird to me, along with the reference to the fact that Britney was about to come to bed. That’s not for public consumption. People can be really careless with technology. Do I sound old? Sometimes I feel like I am, because I’m pretty guarded with what I put online. I don’t see the benefit of sharing such personal things.

Here’s Jason with Britney in NY outside the Fox upfronts on 5-14-12. Look at how he’s trying to hold her dress down for her.

Justin Bieber suspected of battery during ‘physical altercation’ with a pap

Posted: 29 May 2012 04:25 AM PDT

Justin Bieber

Is Justin Bieber finally cracking to the pressure of being a global superstar? I say “finally” as if he’s been around for decades, but he has thus far (in the past few years of his ubiquity) maintained a relatively squeaky image in spite of admitting to drinking a beer once in his life and being good friends with Chris Brown. Speaking of which, Justin may have one-upped Chris Brown’s little adventure of stealing an amateur pap’s phone when the Biebs literally “went bonkers” (according to Fame/Flynet) on a paparazzo while he was out on a date with Selena Gomez. Nobody knows for sure what happened, but TMZ reports that there was in fact a “physical altercation,” and it looks like Biebs lost a hat and shoe in the process. No word on whether his pants finally fell all the way off his body, but the police, fire department, and an ambulance all showed up for the party when the photog failed to lift himself from was the ground. Here are the details from TMZ:

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber is a suspect in a criminal battery … law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Justin was in Calabasas, where he lives, just after noon Sunday at a mall called The Commons. A paparazzo attempted to take Justin’s picture and, according to law enforcement, some sort of physical altercation erupted between Justin and the camera guy.

The photog called 911, and when cops arrived Justin and GF Selena Gomez had already split.

The photog complained of pain to his upper torso, an ambulance was summoned and he was taken to a local hospital where he was examined and released a short time later.

The photog filed a police report naming Justin as the culprit. Cops are investigating the incident as a misdemeanor battery.

Law enforcement tells us detectives want to speak with Justin, Selena and any other witnesses.

We placed a call to Justin’s rep … so far, no comment.

We’re told several witnesses at the scene say after the altercation, a lawyer walked up to the photog and said he could get a lot of money out of the incident and advised the dude to call for an ambulance and file a police report.

Witnesses also say the photog had been blocking Justin’s car as the singer was trying to leave. Justin got out of the car and asked the guy to move away but he wouldn’t, and a scuffle ensued.

[From TMZ]

Who knew that Bieber had it in him to actually get angry and lose his cool in public? Perhaps this is a sign that he’s been hanging around Chris Brown for far too long, but I hope that the reports are wrong and Biebs didn’t really physically hurt someone. But since the seed is planted and whether or not Biebs actually threw a punch, this photog is going to come looking for some money. I guess we’ll see what happens, but I’d expect a pay off to occur whether or not Biebs did anything wrong.

What a mess. If it’s any consolation to the Biebs, Bar Refaeli has been inexplicably going on about how she’ll marry Bieber some day. Selena, watch out.

Princess Charlene’s multiple Monaco photo-ops: depressed or perkier?

Posted: 29 May 2012 04:24 AM PDT

Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco were all over the place this past weekend. I'm including some photos from the events they did (together!) in Monaco, including a charity fashion show (Charlene wore orange-brown pleats), the Monaco Grand Prix (Charlene wore black and white stripes, with some great red lipstick) and the Formula One gala (Charlene wore a black evening gown). Oh, and they did a photo op for a charity for disabled people too – that's the turquoise outfit. She and Albert did several other events too, but these are the ones I wanted to cover.

I've looked through all of our photos, and my general thought is that Charlene is still not pregnant. But! She has gained a little weight, which does give her a slightly knocked-up air. While I think Charlene and Albert negotiate these dual public appearances and make smiley faces for the cameras, I don't think Charlene wants Albert to touch her at all in private, and God knows, maybe the feeling is mutual. From what the "sources" in Monaco say, poor Charlene is just a glorified broodmare and everyone in Monaco is SO disappointed in her. You would comfort-eat too. Meanwhile, remember how that French magazine reported (last year) that Charlene tried to escape Monaco three times only to have her passport confiscated? Albert said he was going to sue. And now he has:

Prince Albert of Monaco and his wife have launched a legal battle for libel damages over a front page story that appeared in The Sunday Times. The couple, who married last July, are demanding unlimited damages of more than £300,000 from publishers Times Newspapers over a story headlined "The Full Filthy Monte", which was published the day after their wedding.

The story claimed that Prince Albert was guilty of being complicit in serious criminality and deliberately turning a blind eye to wide-scale financial corruption throughout Monaco, according to the couple.

The couple say the story meant he turned a blind eye to severe police brutality and abuse of power, and overlooked the criminal actions of money launderers and mobsters, despite his promise in 2005 that he would root out corruption and clean up the city state.

According to their High Court claim, the story said Prince Albert deliberately cultivated links with individuals involved in organised crime, allowing himself to be blackmailed into providing them with unlawful financial or other benefits, in return for their promise not to expose secrets about his private life.

Prince Albert, the story claimed, had bribed his bride Charlene Grimaldi into a sham marriage, forcibly preventing her from leaving the country shortly before their wedding by telling police at Nice airport to take her passport as she tried to flee, after discovering the truth about him fathering an illegitimate child during their relationship.

The court will hear how the paper claimed his wife had agreed to take part in a sham marriage, not because she loved him but because he paid her so much money to go through the pretence of an extravagant wedding that she agreed, despite the illegitimate child.

The prince and princess say the story, which continued on two inside pages, caused substantial damage to their reputations, as well as considerable hurt, distress and embarrassment.

They are also demanding aggravated damages, saying The Sunday Times failed to check the claims with them first.

The story – which carried the subhead "Behind a fairy tale wedding in Monaco lies rumours of murky money, abuse of power and a reluctant bride" – was published in the most sensational and inflammatory manner possible, and the allegations were then widely republished, they claim.

Now they are seeking damages, and an injunction banning the repetition of the allegations at the centre of their lawsuit.

From what I remember of Albert's reaction to the story, he was seriously pissed off and Charlene just looked like a hostage agreeing with her captor. I have to think that while Albert wants The Sunday Times to admit a mistake and allow him to be publicly vindicated, when you introduce this kind of thing into the legal system, it's going to end up a hot mess… for Albert and Charlene. If libel cases in France are anything like the libel cases in America, won't The Sunday Times have to "prove" that they got part or all of their story right? Which means they'll have to present evidence that Charlene did in fact try to pull a runner before the wedding. Which might be kind of easy to prove, you know?
