Viola Davis Goes Natural For "LA TIMES" Magazine & Talks To Andre Leon Talley For VOGUE

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 08:39 AM PST

Academy Award front-runner Viola Davis covers the February 2012 issue of LA TIMES Magazine with a photoshoot that shows a drastically different side of the actress.  See the pics inside and get highlights of the interview she did with Andre Leon Talley for "ET."

The Help star Viola Davis, pictured directly above in a Jason Wu sculpted dress and a Costume National fox fur poncho, has pretty much cleaned up at all the shows for awards season, so it's only natural that she is expected to win this year's Oscar for Best Actress.

In the latest issue of LA TIMES Magazine, the actress rocked a photoshoot that highlighted her gorgeous features.  She looks fab!

In a Theirry Mugler lace with velvet trim suit

In a Marchesa long sleeved lace and high neck dress with organza flower detail

Here's a few of the highlights:

On liking characters that are underrated, slow burners: “Human life is about a culmination of moments, and 99 percent of those are quiet but powerful. I am always interested and intrigued with watching that.”

On nurturing her craft from a young age: “Even back when I was 11, I knew that Isabel Sanford from The Jeffersons came from the stage. I never watched the Oscars, but I watched the Tonys every year. I wanted to be onstage. I wanted to be like Colleen Dewhurst or Jane Alexander—one of those great ladies of the theater, doing Ibsen and Shakespeare.”

On the need for young people to be mentored to aspire to something fulfilling: “I am doing this out of necessity. If I am not the instrument of change, I can meander through this business and be the black woman who always has two or three scenes but with fabulous actors around me.”

And in other Viola news....

She recent talked to Vogue Contributing Editor Andre Leon Talley for an upcoming issue.  And a part of his chat aired on "Entertainment Tonight".  Here are the highlights:

On using real-life experience to draw on for her role in the The Help.

"I have stories of being spit on.  You have to realize I was in a predominantly white culture ... And third grade was the worst because every day after school I would wait at the door and the bell would ring. And as soon as the bell rang I ran as fast as I could from the front door to my house, which was at least a mile away, because I would have eight to nine boys with sticks, bricks, anything they could find, who were ready to kill me."

On what her mother told her about bullying

"She said, 'Viola, I want you to take my crochet and needle and you put it in your pocket and if they stop you again you tell them you're gonna [stab] 'em.'"

On how her life defined her career

"Having it hard made me build so much character ... You have to actually say, 'Is the world going to define me or am I going to define myself.'"

Trey Songz Goes Shirtless For "VMAN," Chats Up Selita Ebanks

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 06:32 AM PST

In the latest issue of "VMAN" magazine, Trey Songz goes shirtless in a black-and-white photoshoot by Bruce Weber.  Inside, he talks to supermodel Selita Ebanks about his upcoming album Chapter 5, his Angels with Heart foundation, and gives advice to kids who are being bullied.  See the highlights inside.....

27-year-old rapper/singer Trey reminds us of his sexy while rocking nothing but a Rafaelo & Co. necklace, an Audemars Piguet watch, and his own bracelet and earring:

In the latest issue of "VMAN," Mr. Steal Yo Girl was interviewed by model Selita Ebanks for a candid interview that covered his new album, his charity work and what he thinks about bullying.  See the highlights here:

SE The world has heard four albums of your seductive voice, and Chapter 5 brings some new Trey “Songz.” VMAN is a men’s fashion magazine that shines light on a new kind of man. How does Chapter 5 shine a new light on you?
TS As I’ve grown from a young man to a man, I think a lot of people have been able to see that progression [in the music], as far as my fans are concerned, as far as consumers are concerned, and just the general public. So I’ve gone from “Gotta Make It” to “Top of the World.” I’ve gone from “I Invented Sex” to “Sex Ain’t Better Than Love.” I think life is about growth and I think fashion, in a lot of ways, is about growth as well. I think the new album will reflect very much where I’m going as a person and what I’ve been through. Music, for me, is very much an expression of how I felt at the time when that song was made. And it’s almost been a year and a half since I put my last album out [2010’s Passion, Pain & Pleasure], so we’ll see how much I’ve grown and how much I’ve changed since that album’s dropped.

SE Last year you launched Angels with Heart (AWH), the foundation that you started to unite all of “Trey’s Angels.” You have a really big following, and if anyone’s been to one of your concerts you’ll see signs and shirts and all the ladies going crazy, and they’re all a part of Trey’s Angels. What was your motivation behind it, and what exactly does the foundation do for the community and the individuals whose lives you touch?
TS Angels with Heart is something that’s really dear to my heart. It’s basically for homes and communities like the one I came from, with a lot of single moms and a lot of children who’d have an amazing future ahead of them if only they had that, and only that, to focus on. I remember coming up in Virginia, and a lot of kids would get in trouble after school and get into situations they didn’t need to be in because they’d be home alone and they didn’t have places to go. I came from a situation where I got clothes from the Salvation Army and I was on welfare, so to be able to contribute to people who are in need, like how I needed and how my mother needed back then, it’s something that I’m truly blessed to be able to do. I eventually want Angels with Heart to have community centers where kids can go and study after school. We had a benefit concert in November, and dedicated a whole month to giving back. It’s something I’m very in love with.

SE There has been a lot of cyber bullying and a lot of hate toward young people, through the Internet, texting, and things of that nature. What message would you send to young people as far as bullying goes?
TS Bullying is childish, and a lot of kids get stuck in situations where obviously something is wrong at home, so it’s kind of a release for them. It’s a comfort blanket and it’s affecting so many people as well as themselves. It’s important to speak not only to the people being bullied but to the bullies as well. To the people out there who are being bullied, just stay strong. There’s only one you. I tell this to people all the time, to kids, to grown men, grown women: there’s only one you, and to think that being you is not enough is to say that God didn’t do his job, because He only made one you, and that alone should show you that you’re special.

DO WE LOVE IT?! Amber Rose's "Loaded"

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 12:19 AM PST

Amber Rose just dropped her follow-up to her debut single "Fame."  And this one is called "Loaded."  Decide if you love the track inside...

"Loaded" is the next single she's dropping.  On this track produced by The Crew, Amber keeps up the cutesy pop sound of speaking quickly over a dance beat.  And she's talking about liking the finer things in life--like private jets and shopping sprees. But does it work for her?  You decide.

MUSIC FAB: Fantasia And Her Mom HIT THE STAGE + D'Angelo PERFORMS In London + Miguel's "Adorn" Video

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 10:15 AM PST

Fantasia hit the stage with her mom last night for a gospel Superbowl concert in Indianapolis.  See the pics inside, plus D'Angelo performing in London and Miguel's new "Adorn" video.

Fantasia Barrino took some of "the spirit" down to Indianapolis last night for the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration 2012 at the Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University.  She's back to work after giving birth to her baby boy just a couple of months ago.

And she performed a few tracks with her mom Diane Barrino.

It's good to see her back on stage.  And after the past two years she's had, maybe a gospel concert is exactly what chick needs.

And on the stage in London.........

D'Angelo performed a live concert at the O2 Academy Brixton in London as a part of his new Euro tour.

Not feeling his look or style as this isn't the D'Angelo we remember.  But maybe he's just testing the waters overseas.  Can't wait for his new music though.

And in videos:

Miguel just dropped the video for "Adorn" off his upcoming Art Dealer Chic: Vol.1 disc.  It drops February 27th.  You feelin' it?

In case you missed him, Antoine Dodson ("Hide ya wife, Hide ya kids") is back!  And now he's coming out with an album.  Listen to the first single inside and see MempHitz talk about being a "sex freak" inside.....

Antoine Dodson is back with a heartfelt ballad called "Lovesick Lullaby."  Yes....the song is heavy on autotune/vocal manipulations, but doesn't sound half bad.  I mean, considering the standards in the music game these days.

This single will appear on Antoine's upcoming album 2012 AD.

Listen to "Lovesick Lullaby" featuring Brent Morgan here:

WHY oh WHY.

Also in music........

MempHitz sat down to talk about love and relationships with KONTROL Magazine recently and the subject of sex came up.  Of course.

He said after a couple gets married, sometimes their sex life changes.  But that didn't happen to him and his reality star wife Toya Wright.  He revealed, "I'm a sex freak!" Listen to him talk about how they get it poppin' at the 4:00 min mark.
