Gwyneth on Pitt & Affleck: “It was strange to be part of a public couple” Posted: 23 Dec 2010 08:18 AM PST Call me crazy, but I think Country Strong is going to go down as one of Gwyneth Paltrow's biggest career blunders. Granted, I don't see how any significant number of people will actually pay to sit through Gwyneth's slurry Brit-Brit twang, nor her incredibly awkward and hilarious dance moves. But Gwyneth is still talking, still promoting, still trying to entice us into watching her shake her vitamin-deficient booty. She already sanctimoniously gooped about motherhood, and now she's bringing out the big guns: she's giving quotes (well, a quote) about her relationships with Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck. Oh, GOOP. It's like you want us to think it's 1997 again.
[From Us Weekly] So it was just the one solitary quote about Pitt & Affleck… for now. She probably has a few more things to say about them, but E! just hasn't released the quotes yet. But anyway… this whole thing, the random quote and looking up these old photos… it's made me incredibly nostalgic. Remember when Gwyneth was the Queen Bee? Remember when everyone was obsessed with her? Remember how friggin' snotty she was even back then? Good times. Nowadays… well, do you think Gwyneth ever feels the pang of nostalgia, ever wishes she could go back and be The It Girl? I bet she does. |
Roger Federer & Rafael Nadal join together to support each other’s charities Posted: 23 Dec 2010 07:29 AM PST You know that Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are friends off the court, right? I remember Vogue's profile of Nadal last year, where Nadal was talking about how much respect he has for Federer, and how Federer is "one of the greatest tennis players in history, if not the greatest." Nadal also talked about beating Federer on the court, and Federer's high emotions afterwards: "I didn’t really know what to do. I felt sad for him. Those are difficult moments when you’re living through them, but over the years they become moments that both he and I will be able to look back on fondly—they’re emotional moments.” So… they're buddies. Professional friends, arguably the two greatest tennis players working today, if not two of the best ever, in the history of tennis. So is it so surprising that they would join together for two exhibition games, all to support each other's charities? Honestly, it's so nice it's making me tear up a little.
[From CNN] Sweet, right? Federer won one, and Nadal won one. And they raised millions of dollars, and people got to see two of the best players in the world compete against each other. Lovely. Oh, and for those who say that we have to pick a side, either Team Rafa or Team Federer… I'm Team Federer, just because I think he's a very kind, sweet man, and a real gentleman. But Rafa's not bad at all. For more information about Rafa's foundation, go here. For more information on Federer's foundation, go here. |
Dina Lohan goes on the record: “I stand behind my daughter 100%” Posted: 23 Dec 2010 06:45 AM PST Mother Crackhead has gone on the record, FINALLY. After days of just being an unnamed source in Radar and TMZ's reporting, Mother Crackhead has deigned to give us a Christmas present… the gift that keeps on giving, cracked-out delusion. According to Dina Lohan, "the situation" between Lindsay and the Betty Ford employee who wanted Lindsay to take a Breathalyzer was "a little sketchy." You're telling me, Mother Crackhead! No, seriously, Dina wants us to know that although she thinks the Betty Ford Clinic is "fabulous," she has no idea how someone with that kind of "background" even got around her little crackhead daughter.
[From TMZ] Ugh, Mother Crackhead. Here's my theory: whenever Dina won't let something go, whenever she starts in with multiple interviews "defending" her little crackhead daughter, that's when you know the jig is up. Of course, the jig is always up with Lindsay's crack hustle, which is why I'm completely Team Random Fired Betty Ford Clinic Employee. Also: I think Dina probably did tell Lindsay to not take the Breathalyzer. You know, because of the Shirley Temples. By the way, in case you were thinking to yourself "Damn, I hope Lindsay goes to jail really soon"… not so fast. TMZ reports that unless Lindsay is found guilty of battery and assault, this whole situation won't affect Lindsay's probation. BUT - the key here could be Lindsay's non-compliance with the alcohol test on the night in question:
[From TMZ] I know I sound like a broken record, but seriously, what will it take for this bitch to go to jail? She would have to kill someone, right? And even if (and when) she kills someone, Mother Crackhead will still be squawking about how the murder victim deserved it, but someone else did the murdering. By the way, since this is likely one of the last posts on Lindsay for the year, I thought I'd bring out my favorite photos of her: |
Us Weekly: Jennifer Aniston won’t let peasants get within 20 feet Posted: 23 Dec 2010 06:00 AM PST Us Weekly has an interesting little non-story in this week's print edition. According to a source on the production of Wanderlust, Jennifer Aniston was not everybody's "friend" on set. Allegedly, she wouldn't even walk from her trailer to the set without a coterie of bodyguards and "buffers". So peasants wouldn't talk to her! Of course, Aniston's rep is denying this. It's become increasingly more and more interesting what Aniston's rep will and will not deny, isn't it? The rep will deny a random report that Aniston wouldn't mingle with peasants, but her rep won't give one comment about the Chelsea Handler situation, or any kind of apology for saying "retard". Fascinating.
[From Us Weekly, print edition] The "report" that Aniston is going to move to New York pops up like three times a year. I wouldn't be shocked if Aniston bought a home in New York - she has more money than God, after all - but I doubt she's "moving" to NYC. She's a California girl. And she doesn't like change. As far as the report about Aniston and her "buffers" - well, whatever. I think she probably does have a lot of bodyguards when she's working, but she probably needs them. Also, I don't really see how "it was an unspoken thing" becomes "it was Aniston's official policy to never deign to speak to any peasant." Non-story. ‘Black Swan’ review: beautiful, neurotic, numbing hot mess Posted: 23 Dec 2010 05:30 AM PST Yesterday, in a drug-addled haze (Sudafed and Dayquil), I took my mother to see Black Swan. It was her pick - she chose Portman and ballerinas over her pretty princess, Cinderella/Amy Adams in The Fighter. Perhaps it was just the drugs (true story), but Black Swan was a seriously good/trippy movie to watch while under the influence. If I had been stone cold sober, however, I wonder if I would have enjoyed as much. As it happened, the theatre was half-full, and I was the only one laughing at what I thought were funny jokes. Whoops! Anyway, I don't want this review to be spoiler-filled, and by now, you hopefully know the basics of the plot, what little of it there is. If you want a summary of the film, go here. If you want spoilers, go here. If you want reviews by a critic you respect more than me (I don't mind!), go here. I'm just going to talk about my general thoughts, complaints and praise for the film. Since you guys seemed to like my review of The Tourist, I thought I'd do another review! So we know that Natalie Portman, in her lead role as Nina, is considered the leading contender for this year's Best Actress Oscar. Do I think she deserves it? Well… maybe, maybe not. I wouldn't be upset if Natalie won, but I wouldn't be overjoyed either. I do think Natalie was acting her ass off throughout the film. She transformed her body to the point where she just seemed like a quivering, nervous, taut muscle just about to snap. Even her neck muscles were acting. Natalie also surprised and impressed me with her voice work in the film - she was able to raise her voice just a touch higher to seem even younger, more child-like, more vulnerable. Her ballet was quite good too, not that I'm an expert. But much like the character of Nina, I often thought Natalie seemed weighed down with the technical aspects of the dance. When she performed, she always looked like she was about to cry. Was that on purpose? My main problem with Natalie's character was that it seemed rather one-note… yes, the bitch is crazy. What else do you have, you know? Half-way through the film, I realized that I had stopped caring about Nina's injuries/hallucinations/anxiety/tears/trauma/drama. It was all the same after a while. And that's the fault of the script, not Portman. Portman did the best she could with the material. As for the other actors… well, I was kind of in heaven. Vincent Cassel took another one-note character and made it really interesting. Cassel played the director of the company, and he was at times sexy, smarmy, charming, nasty, and kind. My favorite part of the whole film was when he danced with Natalie… sigh. He's a gorgeous dancer. Barbara Hershey looked like ten kinds of hell, and she was very good too. Winona Ryder's part (as the ousted prima ballerina Beth) was smaller than I was expecting, but Winona popped on-screen, big-time. There was one scene that gave me major Winona nostalgia - she's playing sad, catty and drunk, and can just see that Winona has still got it, you know? I loved it. As for Mila Kunis… well, she was very, very good. But I'm kind of drawing back my thoughts that she'll get an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Yes, she was good, but the role wasn't that showy, and… I don't know, I'm just not expecting her to get nominated. So, would I recommend this film? Yes, but prepare yourself. There are many gross-out moments, and some really good performances. But it's not the best film of the year or anything. Alexander Skarsgard got naked for 8 hours, made True Blood cast & crew comfortable Posted: 23 Dec 2010 05:18 AM PST Kristen Bauer, who plays kickass pink-loving vampire Pam on the hit HBO series True Blood, dished about her costar Alexander Skarsgard to E!. Bauer said that hot Swede Alex was once naked for a full eight hours on set and was so mellow about it that the entire cast and crew was also comfortable with with Alex’s amazing nakedness.
[From E! Online] I’m an American, am married to a German guy and have lived in Germany for about three years. I’ve mentioned this before, but the German attitude toward nudity takes some getting used to. They basically don’t care and don’t see it as a big deal. I’ve pretty much acclimated to this after the initial shock factor and now I find it liberating. Like I don’t stress in the locker room trying to cover up and I love the saunas here, everyone is nude but you get over it. (They have world class public spas here that are relatively affordable.) This is a big deal to American and British people though, and I’ve spoken with newcomers who find it shocking that Germans are basically nudists (in our frame of reference). Can you imagine going to a lake with your family and just seeing people strip off their clothes and take a dip? That’s what they do here. Anyway I get how Skarsgard could walk around naked for eight hours and not be fazed. He was raised not to be ashamed of his body and has absolutely nothing to hide on that gorgeous chiseled physique. Eight hours sounds a little extreme though. Maybe they drew out his nude scene just a little longer than necessary. Header is a screencap from True Blood. Rolling Stone cover courtesy of RS. |
Amanda Seyfried and Ryan Phillippe might be getting serious Posted: 23 Dec 2010 05:07 AM PST Last week, there was a brief article in Star Magazine that suggested that hot douche divorcee Ryan Phillippe was toying with lovely Amanda Seyfried, with whom he was first linked in early November. Star reported that Ryan stood Amanda up at the last minute for a planned getaway and quoted an insider who claimed he has also already “blown [her] off on a few occasions, and it just crushes her. It’s like he’s stringing her along.” It looks like Ryan may have gotten over his initial commitment issues, as he was seen on a low-key couple-type outing with Amanda on Monday. The two went shopping together and out to a (post-coital?) lunch.
[From E! Online] Good for them. I can’t help thinking that it’s going to end badly for Amanda, as Ryan, 36, cheated on his then-wife Reese Witherspoon with Abbie Cornish, and then proceeded to cheat on Abbie with random women until she got fed up and dumped him. The next woman he dated briefly supposedly caught him making out with another woman - at her own birthday party. We know Amanda, 25, is attracted to jerks though, as she last dated Dominic Cooper, who cheated on her with at least a couple of different women. She deserves better, but like a lot of women she doesn’t seem to expect it. |
Ozzy Osbourne: Lady Gaga is overexposed, I’m sick of her Posted: 23 Dec 2010 05:01 AM PST Rocker Ozzy Osbourne, 62, made some rather good points about how Lady Gaga and her ridiculously costumed T&A are everywhere lately. Osbourne gave a (supposedly) surprisingly coherent interview to US Weekly in which he covered his career, his family and his advice for Gaga. Contrary to the title, he wasn’t entirely negative toward Gaga and basically told her to put it away for a while.
That was really nice what Ozzy said about Kelly! I get the impression that this interview was “translated” though, so that it made sense to people who don’t speak mumble. I’ve never heard Ozzy utter a sentence that I could understand completely. No wonder they didn’t post the audio. |
Was Scarlett Johansson fooling around on Ryan Reynolds? Posted: 23 Dec 2010 04:50 AM PST Every single tabloid has a big Ryan Reynolds/Scarlett Johansson story this week, for some reason. I mean, I get it, they were a young, hot Hollywood couple, but from the breathy, wall-to-wall coverage, you'd think that it was the shock of the century that they split. Anyway, in addition to sounding like a whiny little baby and pushing "victim" stories in the press, Ryan might have been a busy little beaver framing ScarJo as the bad guy in other tabloids too. Here's a run down of some of the stories, courtesy of Jezebel:
[From Jezebel's tabloid round-up] Eh. I doubt ScarJo was ever seriously considering having a baby - she never really seemed to care (and she's still so young, after all). As for Reynolds and Sandra Bullock… yeah, I doubt it. They just don't seem like they would have any sexual chemistry. But they're probably still friends, and maybe they're just hanging out together. Plus: I totally see Reynolds rebounding with someone like Blake Lively, don't you? Regarding Reynolds being an "overbearing control freak" - can we just call him a gerbil-faced jag and be done with it? Ugh. ANYWAY… my favorite version of the post-split analysis comes via Us Weekly. Mainly, this interests me because it seems like the biggest pro-Ryan story, and because there's some good dirty gossip about those old rumors regarding ScarJo and her Broadway costar, Liev Schreiber, and their alleged romance. Schreiber is Naomi Watts' partner, mind you, and there was a lot of gossip last Spring about how close Schreiber and ScarJo were when they worked together, and how Naomi and Liev were very close to splitting. I even suggested that it could be on between Schreiber and ScarJo! Here are the highlights from Us Weekly:
[From Us Weekly, print edition] Yes, Ryan is very butt-hurt. BAD SCARJO. Now, the Vespa thing is very interesting, isn't it? I bet ScarJo rode more than his “Vespa”. Personally, I think ScarJo is catnip for older men. It's the voice, the demeanor, the Lolita thing. I could see Liev being into it. Plus, he has a thing for blondes. I'm calling it: ScarJo and Liev Schrieber were probably boning. I'm also calling it: it's funny to me that there are so many photos of Schreiber and ScarJo together, and barely any of ScarJo and Ryan. HA. One last thing: if ScarJo did fool around, I'm not blaming her. I can't imagine being hitched to a butt-hurt gerbil like Ryan. I would be screwing around too. |
Pauly D is the first Jersey Shore tool to get a spinoff - was he the cheapest? Posted: 23 Dec 2010 04:31 AM PST
[From US Weekly] I think that MTV assumes that no matter who they center a spinoff around, it will be popular. They may see these kids as interchangeable anyway, and might as well go with the one who is the cheapest with the lowest sense of entitlement. I’m reminded of a comment that a Jersey Shore producer Sally Ann Salsano made to the NY Times over the summer. Of the castmembers getting big heads, she said “Here's what I always say: I won't stand for it. They all live in their mom's basement and I know it. Last season I had to buy them cigarettes and Diet Cokes. They're the same kids they've always been. Sure, they have a bit more money. They have more clothes with rhinestones on them than they did last year.” Radar has details of Pauly D’s spinoff, and it will supposedly focus on “his life as a DJ on the road with his buddies.” They’ve already shot a bunch of footage, according to Radar. The show will have the ridiculous name of “Pauly’s World.” That’s too funny and makes me think of Wally World, which was probably the intention. Mild spoilers for Jersey Shore Season 3 (as seen in trailer)
