Wow, the justice system is so generous: For 16 years, sisters Jamie and Gladys Scott have shared a life behind bars for their part in an armed robbery in which they pocketed just $11. Now, to share freedom, they must also share a kidney. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour suspended the sisters’ life sentences yesterday on the condition that 36-year-old Gladys gives a kidney to Jamie, 38, who requires daily dialysis. The sisters were convicted in 1994 of leading two men into an ambush in central Mississippi the year before. Three teenagers hit each man in the head with a shotgun and took their wallets – making off with only $11. The Scotts were each convicted of two counts of armed robbery and sentenced to two life sentences. 'I think it’s a victory,' said the sisters’ attorney, Chokwe Lumumba. 'I talked to Gladys and she’s elated about the news. I’m sure Jamie is, too.' Civil rights advocates have for years called for their release, saying the sentences were excessive. Those demands gained traction when Barbour asked the Mississippi Parole Board to take another look at the case. The Scott sisters are eligible for parole in 2014, but Barbour said prison officials no longer think they are a threat to society and Jamie’s medical condition is costing the state a lot of money. Mr Lumumba said he has no problem with the governor requiring Gladys to offer up her organ because 'Gladys actually volunteered that as part of her petition.' He said it’s not clear what caused the kidney failure, but it’s likely a combination of different illnesses over the years. The Governor's spokesman Dan Turner said that Jamie Scott was released because she needs the transplant.
He said Gladys Scott will be released if she agrees to donate her kidney because of the significant risk and recovery time.

They just need to let poor MJ rest in peace: Michael Jackson killed himself with a lethal dose of the hospital anaesthesia Propofol, it has been claimed.
Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney David Walgren claimed lawyers for Dr Conrad Murray, who is accused of involuntary manslaughter in relation to Jackson’s death, plan to use the theory as the main part of his defense. Walgren’s statement came at a hearing yesterday where a lawyer for Dr Murray clashed with the prosecutor over who should test residue from two syringes found in Jackson’s bedroom. He said: ‘I do think it’s clear the defense is operating under the theory that the victim, Michael Jackson, killed himself. ‘They don’t want to say it but that’s the direction in which they are going.’ Defense attorney J. Michael Flanagan said a huge amount of the anaesthetic Propofol was found in Jackson’s body, but his client has said he gave him only 25 milligrams of the drug. Mr. Walgren suggested the defense will claim Jackson killed himself by injecting more of the drug into himself. It is understood that Dr Murray’s lawyers will claim that the star woke up while his physician was out of the room for two minutes in the toilet and administered a lethal dose of the drug himself. A preliminary hearing in the case begins next Tuesday when Judge Michael Pastor will decide whether the prosecution has a strong enough case to support the unusual charge that Dr Murray was criminally responsible for the king of pop’s death in June 2009. As many as 30 witnesses are expected to be called during the two week hearing. Although the defense won’t be putting its case, it is thought highly likely that the judge will find that the American cardiologist will have to go to trial. Dr. Murray, 52, faces up to four years in prison if he is convicted. Reports in the US have suggested that the doctor’s lawyers will argue that the singer injected Propofol himself using an intravenous drip, causing a massive heart attack. He then supposedly dropped the bottle on the floor. When the doctor came back into the room he tried CPR in a desperate attempt to revive Jackson. An autopsy later showed the heart attack was caused by a fatal dose of Propofol, a drug Jackson used to help with his chronic insomnia. Mr Flanagan said a broken syringe was found on the bedroom floor in addition to a syringe in an intravenous medication bag. He also revealed that a fingerprint found on the broken syringe hasn’t been identified.

After a four year investigation that caused him to resign two weeks before his seven year term was over, former Israeli president Moshe Katsav has officially been found guilty of rape. Former Israel President Moshe Katsav was convicted Thursday of raping an employee when he was a Cabinet minister, the most serious criminal charges ever brought against a high-ranking official and a case that stunned the nation. Katsav, 65, faces a minimum of four years in prison on two counts of raping one of his employees in 1998 when he was Israel’s tourism minister. The Tel Aviv District Court also convicted him on lesser counts of indecent acts and sexual harassment involving two other women who worked for him after he became president in 2000. Katsav has denied the charges. He claimed to be a victim of a political witchhunt, suggesting he was targeted because he comes from Israel’s Sephardic community. Sephardic Jews, of Middle Eastern origin, were for decades an underclass in Israeli society. Katsav was born in Iran and immigrated to Israel as a child. The verdict caps a four-and-a-half year saga that shocked Israelis, both with its lurid details and bizarre twists and turns. Katsav resigned in 2007, two weeks before his seven-year term expired, under a plea bargain that would have required him to admit to lesser charges of sexual misconduct. He was replaced by elder statesman and Nobel peace laureate Shimon Peres. Although the post in Israel is largely ceremonial, the president is head of state, representing the country at ceremonies around the world. But in a dramatic reversal in April 2009, Katsav rejected the deal and said he wanted to clear his name in court. Around that time, he held a news conference in which he lashed out at prosecutors and denied any wrongdoing. His behavior, in which he shook in anger and screamed at reporters in the room, was widely criticized.

This is sad: French model and actress Isabelle Caro, whose anorexia-ravaged body was featured in a shocking 2007 advertising campaign, has died. The young woman’s acting coach, Daniele Dubreuil-Prevot, revealed Caro died on Nov. 17, at the age of 28, according to reports. She had just returned to France after doing a job in Tokyo. While Dubreuil-Prevot, Caro’s longtime teacher, said she didn’t know the cause of death, she spoke of Caro’s battle with anorexia, adding that her student – who said she suffered from the illness since she was 13 – “had been sick for a long time.” The model is known for her appearance in a fashion ad campaign by Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani in 2007. Caro’s naked body was shown with her skeletal frame and facial bones protruding. The images were splashed in newspapers and on billboards with the headline “No Anorexia.” Earlier this year, she made an appearance on Jessica Simpson’s show The Price of Beauty to discuss body image issues.

As a result, hotel managers have had to rearrange accommodations for other important guests. Celebs expected at the bash, produced by celebrity event designer Colin Cowie, include Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Wahlberg, Kristin Davis, Ellen Pompeo, Kellan Lutz, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Olivia Munn, Emmy Rossum, Jessica Szohr, Mark Salling and Selita Ebanks. Jay’s rep wouldn’t comment, but a hotel rep said, “We are looking forward to welcoming Jay-Z to the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and as is our policy, we don’t disclose details regarding a guest’s accommodations or other arrangements while at the resort.”
