Nickelodeon Is Basically Remaking Beatles Movies Starring Their Boy Band Big Time Rush

Posted: 06 Nov 2011 10:35 AM PST

It may sound a bit hyperbolic, but I believe that (pre)teens today love boy bands like the Jonas Brothers as much as my parents’ generation revered the Beatles, so it’s not so surprising that Nickelodeon is casting its in-house band Big Time Rush as the Beatles’ descendants. The network has decided that the band’s first TV movie, Big Time Movie, will cover several Beatles hits as well as emulate the plots of their wacky adventure movies from the ’60s.

In the movie, Kendall (Kendall Schmidt), James (James Maslow), Carlos (Carlos Pena Jr.), and Logan (Logan Henderson) are headed to London for their first big world tour, but when one of their bags gets switched and a futuristic device falls into their hands, they have to save the world. Of course they do. Here’s a more detailed synopsis:

In Big Time Movie, the guys must tap their inner spy as their adventure finds them driving exotic cars and jumping out of helicopters, while trying to make it to their first world tour concert on time. Hot on their trail are evil henchmen named Maxwell, British secret agents and Swedish spies as well as billionaire businessman, Sir Atticus Moon who wants back his precious device code named: "The Beetle," an anti-gravitational device with enormous power.  Once they learn they're carrying this precious cargo, the guys get pulled into a madcap mission throughout London, which threatens the onset of their world tour.  With the help of teen spy Penny Lane, the guys set out to save Penny's father M16 Agent Simon Lane and stop Sir Atticus Moon's plot to use "The Beetle" to gain world domination.

The Beetle, Penny  Lane, even Moon versus Ringo Starr‘s real last name Starkey—yep, it’s chock full of Beatles references. Marjorie Cohn, Nickelodeon’s President of Original Programming and Development, says the choice was partially motivated by the desire to reach their viewers’ parents: ”The cool gadgets, outdoor locations and big stunts give this film a truly cinematic feel and transport Big Time Rush into a larger than life environment. It’s a Nickelodeon take on James Bond meets Austin Powers, featuring covers of classic Beatles songs that both kids and their parents can enjoy.”

For those of you who haven’t seen the show, Big Time Rush is about four hockey players from Minnesota who give up their sports passion to become a boy band. Big Time Movie is currently shooting — in Vancouver, natch — and will also feature songs from the boys’ second album, Elevate.

Patrick Schwarzenegger Smolders In Interview Magazine

Posted: 06 Nov 2011 07:57 AM PST

Patrick Schwarzenegger
turned 18 in September, so lust away. Like, feel free to print this photo out and tape it to your wall as if you were back in high school. No one’s going to stop you, not me and not the cops.

The photo was shot by the beach in Venice, CA. In the accompanying piece, we learn all about how Patrick is a real go-getter: in addition to the modeling thing, he’s involved in charity work and dedicated to his schooling. Pat’s even got his own clothing line, called Project360, which produces wares emblazoned with hopeful messages. Which is appropriate, because as he says, "My mother's nickname for me is 'Positive Patrick. I like to live up to that title."

Poll: Is The Breaking Dawn Home Makeover On HGTV’s Color Splash Weird Or Tasteful?

Posted: 06 Nov 2011 07:49 AM PST

In a really smart marketing move, HGTV‘s show Color Splash brought their home makeover skills to the abode of two Miami-based Twihards, who had requested that their home be made to resemble the Cullen family’s mansion in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 (and all the other movies, really). But what they didn’t know was that Nikki Reed, who plays Rosalie Cullen in the movies, was coming along for the experience.

And you know what? The final product is not as cringe-inducing as we might have expected. No creepy love nests intended for vampire or werewolf lovers. No blood red (thank God). Check out our gallery of images from the final house, plus the happy couple, and tell us… Do you think Color Splash changed this home for the better?

Video: Watch A Hilarious Jeopardy Goof

Posted: 05 Nov 2011 03:01 PM PDT

Game show goofs are my second-favorite form of comedy entertainment after newscaster goofs. And this Jeopardy one’s a pretty good one. Like top 25 best game show goofs. Okay, okay, at least top 50. Of the ones I’ve seen. The question: “If Andy yearns for Brenda and Brenda cares about Charlene who pines for Andy, the three of them form one of these.”

What is, a hilarious Jeopardy answer.

Buck Up, Kevin Jonas — It’s Your Birthday And You’ve Got A Lot Going For You

Posted: 05 Nov 2011 01:33 PM PDT

Dear Kevin Jonas,

I already used up my “we need to talk about Kevin” joke earlier in the week, but I still think it’s worth you and me having a heart-to-heart on today, your 24th birthday. I know that you get a lot of shit for being “the ugly Jonas” or “the lame Jonas,” but I want you to know that we at Crushable still value you.

You’re the oldest JoBro, and that’s got to be tough. I know what you’re going through, because I’m the oldest in my group of cousins. Sometimes you feel like the wet blanket because you’re more concerned with adult things like making a living, instead of just having your own Disney show or dating starlets (That was Joe‘s gig.) Plus Nick has that sexy diabetes thing going on, and that’s tough to upstage.

That famous Barbara Walters video didn’t help matters, unfortunately. (Start around 4:40.) I know you’ve probably seen it hundreds of times, but I’m going to repeat it here. When she asks you guys to describe each other, you say that Joe is the rockstar… Joe says that Nick is the President… and Nick says, “Kevin’s really… enthusiastic.” Then you make a face that looks like this:

It’s on you, Kevin. Stop being such a sad sack! Own your awkwardness! But even more, realize that even if you’re the third-place Jonas, you’re still part of history. You were a central member of the group that ushered in the new generation of young stars that preteens revere the way their (grand)parents did the Beatles. The Jonas Brothers were the predecessors for Justin Bieber: Sweet boys who played the Disney game and rocked out even as the media questioned their virginity.

And against all those odds, you were voted one of People’s Sexiest Men Alive in 2008. George Clooney was probably somewhere in that list, since he’s on every year’s list. And your inclusion was not ironic! Awkward guys are hot now. Just look at Jesse Eisenberg. You’re in good company, man.

Sure, you don’t make the best choices re: your image. You got married at an appallingly young age and gave that embarrassing quote about not knowing what to do on your wedding night. But you get to have sex now, man—anytime you want. (Sure, Nick and Joe have probably also ditched their purity rings and are plowing through groupies at every concert… but you get to have love and sex with the same woman. Yay?)

Yeah, not helping, sorry. Have you checked out Tumblr lately? Because they love you over there. Especially this person:

I love you, like a lot. There's so much to love, I don't see why people hate you. It's just not right. It's not fair. You're a beautiful person, inside and out. Dani's an incredibly lucky girl to have such a fantastic guy as you. You're the definition of sweet. You always put others before yourself. You're a PHENOMENAL guitar player. You're genuine, which is hard to come by these days. And that's just skimming the sur

Hot Shot: My How You’ve Grown, Aaron Carter

Posted: 05 Nov 2011 12:23 PM PDT

Aaron Carter is all grown up and a bona fide thesbian now — he’s part of the cast of the Off-Broadway play The Fantasticks, a revival from the 60s. In this series of photo, Aaron plays around on the piano during rehearsal.

Aaron will turn 24 in December, which makes him exactly one-million years older than he was when he first burst into the public eye as Backstreet Boy Nick Carter‘s baby-voiced younger brother. In addition to his new theatrical role, Aaron has been working on a new record. He’s been pimping out his new song, “Winner,” via Twitter.

Aaron, you’re such a grown-up now, who knew?
