Anderson Cooper was “punched 10 times in the head” by a Cairo mob Posted: 02 Feb 2011 08:48 AM PST Oh noes! Anderson Cooper, like many major journalists (coughcoughKatieCouriccough), is in Egypt for the massive demonstrations and anti-Hosni Mubarak (I spelled his name right before looking it up! YAY!) activities. For the most part, it seems like the millions of demonstrators have been non-violent, which is a good thing. International support of these demonstrations can turn on a dime, and so far, the anti-Mubarak people have been playing it safe with the Western journalists and everybody is playing nice. Unfortunately, in a last-ditch effort to save his job (and his life, maybe), Mubarak is attempting to photo-op his way out of this disaster. Small, pro-Mubarak groups have been trailing Western journalists and demonstrating (against the anti-Mubarak demonstrators) in front of the cameras. When CNN's camera crew - lead by Anderson Cooper - was trying to report from the street, these pro-Mubarak demonstrators got out of hand and attacked The Coop.
[From People] Poor Anderson. What's worse is that I get the feeling that Anderson is in no way a brawler. If that had been CNN's Michael Ware, that junk would have gotten really bloody, with Ware throwing most of the punches. I'm biased though - I love Michael Ware. He's crazy and brave, and I love the way he says "lame duck" with his Aussie accent. Anyway, Anderson took the punches like a man and continued reporting later on in the evening. See Andy describe the scene afterwards: |
Mel Gibson “was trying to invite suicide by cop” after Robyn left him Posted: 02 Feb 2011 08:18 AM PST In the March "Hollywood Issue" of Vanity Fair, Peter Biskind has written some kind of exposé of Mel Gibson's violent, drunken shenanigans. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a sympathetic piece, or merely a detailed list of TMZ and Radar's previous reporting. But it does sound interesting. Page Six got their hands on an advanced copy of the article, and Biskund claims that when his wife Robyn left him in 2006, that's when Mel really went off the rails. Apparently, Mel was getting so wasted, he was attempting to cause trouble for himself with the police, all so that the police would shoot him:
[From Page Six] So Danny Glover is still on Team Mel. Interesting. I remember a joke Jon Stewart once told, which was basically like "In retrospect, it's amazing that those two were able to pull it together enough for the Lethal Weapon franchise." As far as the "suicide by cop" angle - I mean, maybe I could buy that. I think it probably crossed Mel's mind at one point, and yes, perhaps he was even suicidal at one point. But I don't feel any sympathy for him, at all. It's not a situation where I can say "Oh, I didn't realize he felt that badly, the poor guy is really hurting." I believe he's a violent, racist son of a bitch, whether or not he's drinking. |
Naomi Campbell: “I don’t read the papers, I sell papers” Posted: 02 Feb 2011 07:53 AM PST This is Naomi Campbell's cover for the March issue of GQ UK. She gives an interview to the magazine, plus she conducts an interview… with Russia's former president, Vladimir Putin. It is epic. First, some select quotes from Naomi's interview. She tells the magazine: “I don’t read the papers. I sell papers.” She also talks about her appearance at Charles Taylor's war crimes tribunal, saying: "They tried to affect my work. They said the fashion industry shouldn’t use me. But what had I done wrong?” Um, Naomi, you accepted blood diamonds and then you lied about it, repeatedly, to many people. Anyway, the soft-ball Putin interview is a thing of beauty. I guess Naomi feels qualified to interview Putin because she's had a married Russian bone inside of her for a few years. The full Putin piece is here - it's amazing how Naomi and Vladimir speak to each other. It's just… I don't have words.
[From GQ UK] If I wanted to read an interview equivalent of fellatio, I would still subscribe to Time Magazine. I expected more from a British men's magazine. Of course, GQ UK seems to love Naomi, for whatever reason. They've had her on their cover so many times. Perhaps she's beaten all of them into submission. GQ UK cover courtesy of HuffPo. RHOBH Reunion Finale: Kyle gets nastier, Camille recovers, Kim is so gracious Posted: 02 Feb 2011 07:26 AM PST
A lot happened, but overall Kyle seemed incredibly nasty, defensive and not at all apologetic for the way she treated both her sister and Camille. She did a lot of hair flipping, sneering and squinting and my opinion of her was even lower after watching this. Camille on the other hand did apologize, wasn’t that defensive and took responsibility for some of the things she did this season. She’s probably been coached by a media expert and has carefully planned her responses. Whatever she did worked because she came across so much better than she has before. Kim was very gracious, thoughtful and loving to her sister Kyle in a way that Kyle did not deserve at all. Taylor was much like Kyle in that she had a bunch of justifications for her behavior and never admitted to being wrong. Adrienne was noncommittal and almost not there and Lisa brought her own drama with her rift with scheming Cedric. Overall it was a very interesting and drama-filled ending.
[Recap from RHOBH reunion part 2, aired 2-1-11] Kyle is the real villain of this show, and while Camille is a narcissistic twit who is more than capable of pulling her own stunts and denying culpability she’s learned how to work the media. Camille really put Kyle in her place last night, and she did it by playing innocent and playing lip service to taking responsibility while Kyle continued to get snotty and rude. Kim deserves a lot of credit for how well she handled that situation and how kind she was to Kyle after all Kyle put her through. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kim quietly got sober and has stayed sober even after dropping out of rehab. The ladies of the RHOBH were on Ellen yesterday, all except Kim. Kyle revealed that Kim’s not certain whether or not she’ll do another season. As I mentioned in our last recap, I think Kim should step aside. Taylor will need a new target and I bet she’ll turn on her BFF Kyle, who will then be the low woman on the totem pole. Just wait. Video of Camille and Kyle arguing. Elton John: Billy Joel is an alcoholic, and he needs rehab Posted: 02 Feb 2011 07:18 AM PST At some point, Elton John became the den-mother to all of the broken, drunken, and drugged-out musicians in the world. Elton famously battled his own addictions, and now he steps in and speaks out when he thinks he sees another celebrity who is going down the path of addiction. Eminem memorably gave Elton credit when Em spoke about his own rehab and recovery - Em and Elton are tight now, and Elton was one of the people who encouraged Em to get clean. And now Elton is stepping up for another friend - Billy Joel. Billy and Elton have done tours together, and I believe that they are close friends in real life. Now, Billy Joel has, like, a million DUIs and various incidents of drunken shenanigans. It's been going on for years, and now Elton is stepping up - in a new Rolling Stone interview - to say that Billy needs rehab, and he needs to take it seriously.
[From The Huffington Post] Billy Joel is 61 years old… which is younger than I was expecting. I really thought he was in his late 60s or early 70s! That's what alcoholism does to you, children. It ages you like a mofo. Anyway, my point about Billy being 61 years old: perhaps he thinks he's just too old to start a new, sober life? Perhaps he just wants to go out in an alcoholic blaze of glory? I'm not making excuses, I'm just saying that it might have been more interesting if Elton had stepped up years ago. |
Halle Berry accuses Gabriel Aubry of verbal threats, racial slurs Posted: 02 Feb 2011 06:40 AM PST I was all prepared to begin writing about Gabriel Aubry's new public statement (via his rep) when I saw that this custodial drama between Halle Berry and Gabriel had taken the cover of this week's People Magazine (see the cover here). Since it seems these two jags are bound and determined to fight this entire thing in the public sphere, I am only going to continue my non-committal attitude towards taking sides. I know many of you have already picked your side - that's fine. I think they are both behaving inappropriately, and the accusations that are currently flying around are immature and nasty. Okay, first up: Gabe's latest defense, via his rep to Us Weekly:
[From Us Weekly] I believe that Gabriel is leaking his "side" of the story to any outlet that will listen, meaning that he's talking to Radar, TMZ and Us Weekly. Halle seems content to push her accusations in People Magazine, the celebrity bible. And People has rewarded her with a cover story full of what could be potentially libelous accusations:
[From People] So Gabe was verbally threatening to Halle, and he's a bad father, AND he was calling her racist names, so says Team Halle. I end up feeling kind of bad for Gabe, because he seems so out-matched in this tug-of-war. Originally, he seemed like he merely wanted to formalize some kind of custodial arrangement, but now it's looking like Halle is going after his balls. Also - the anti-Gabe stuff keeps going: yesterday, there was reporting from TMZ & Radar regarding Gabe's relationship with Kim Kardashian, and how THAT was Halle's breaking point. Now TMZ has a story from one of Gabe's ex-girlfriends, who is calling Gabe a jailbait-loving gold-digger. Ugh. Ugly, ugly, ugly. |
Brandi Glanville’s new “boyfriend” used to bone Lance Bass Posted: 02 Feb 2011 06:39 AM PST These are new, hilarious photos of Brandi Glanville with her new "boyfriend," a “makeup artist” named Cedric Martinez. Yes, I'm calling him a "boyfriend" because the guy is beeping hard on my gaydar, and that was before I even looked him up. Apparently, he's super-gay, meaning he once dated… Lance Bass! Oh, and he's Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Lisa Vanderpump's "permanent houseguest". So… gay. But that isn't stopping the photo agencies from trying to make this junk happen, though. Fame Pictures calls him Brandi's "shy new boyfriend" and describes this outing as a "lunch date". WAIT… "shy"? Can we really describe someone wearing that kind of titty man-blouse as "shy"? But wait… why is trying to get Brandi to clutch his dong for the cameras?!? Maybe he's bisexual. Maybe he's not so gay after three "lunch martoonis". Maybe… I've got nothing. OH GOD, he has a Twitter page too!!! So many LOLs this morning. |
Did Jennifer Aniston drunkenly slur her way through Conan’s interview? Posted: 02 Feb 2011 06:14 AM PST Oooh, this should get people riled up! Now that I've convinced myself that Jennifer Aniston is drunk most of the time (I believe it because it explains so much), I can't help but notice how she seems somewhat disoriented in some of her first promotional interviews, during her PR tour for Just Go With It. Aniston was on Conan last night, and for the first few minutes, there were some notable slurs and oddly timed awkward moments. But then everything evened out a little bit. Also - I think Aniston was doing that drunk thing of talking too loud - I do that too when I'm hammered. She really does seem to be talking louder than needed, although perhaps I just think that because I find her voice kind of annoying. There's an interesting bit where Conan asks her to confirm or deny various tabloid rumors. Conveniently, Aniston was just on Star Magazine with an adoption story, so that gave her something to talk about and deny - which she's been doing in every interview thus far. Conan also asked her about the rumor that Aniston contractually mandates that the crew can't get within 20 feet of her while she's on set - Aniston denied that story as well, although I have to admit something: I've heard some version of "Aniston doesn't want the peasants to talk to her" over and over again throughout the years. Last thing - Aniston is appearing on Ellen today, and Ellen asks her if she has plans to adopt another dog:
[From People] No babies, no dogs, she's going to the SuperBowl and she's still talking about her hair. It's like an interview from 2004! |
Two and a Half Men will start filming with Charlie Sheen in less than a month Posted: 02 Feb 2011 05:50 AM PST
[From TMZ] As E! reports, the show is just as popular as ever and was top in its time slot on Monday. That means that the star and chief money-maker Charlie will be propped up and shipped back to work, where he’ll act like everything is fine and bring in the big bucks to fuel his drugged out orgies. There’s news that Charlie’s famous parents, Martin Sheen and Charlie’s mom, Janet, are working to establish some kind of conservatorship over their 45 year-old son. They realize it’s a long shot, but are so worried for him that they’re considering it. Radar Online quotes an insider who says “Charlie’s parents are discussing getting a conservatorship of their son. Martin and Janet know that it’s highly unlikely their petition would be granted, but they are trying to do whatever possible to save Charlie’s life.” Charlie’s most talkative paid company from the night he was rushed to the hospital with a “hernia,” porn star Kacey Jordan, was on Howard Stern this week where she gave a more salacious version of her adventures with the TV star than the one she told GMA. On Stern, Jordan mentioned that Charlie has a mouth full of gold teeth that he covers will some kind of veneer grill. TMZ has a photo of Charlie taken on that night, when he was presumably in the midst of his crack, pot and booze binge. He looks like death. As long as the dude is still breathing and making people money, they’ll put him on the job. Photos via Starpulse. |
W Magazine responds to Kim Kardashian’s freakout over nude pics: it’s art Posted: 02 Feb 2011 05:34 AM PST
W Magazine is responding to Kim’s complaint that the spread was “full on porn” by saying it was art. They pointedly do not address whether they promised her she would be covered inside the magazine. A lot of you called her dumb for posing nude and then crying when the photos came out, but if these people swore up and down that nothing would be shown she has the right to expect that to be the case - even though she’s posed for Playboy and has a sex tape out. This whole thing has long since blown over and Kim was ok with it in the end. She’s surely glad that it’s all being revisited in the press now. As naive as she seems, she sure knows how to bombard us with everything she’s got. Photo credit: WENN.com |
