Anderson Cooper was “punched 10 times in the head” by a Cairo mob

Posted: 02 Feb 2011 08:48 AM PST

Oh noes! Anderson Cooper, like many major journalists (coughcoughKatieCouriccough), is in Egypt for the massive demonstrations and anti-Hosni Mubarak (I spelled his name right before looking it up! YAY!) activities. For the most part, it seems like the millions of demonstrators have been non-violent, which is a good thing. International support of these demonstrations can turn on a dime, and so far, the anti-Mubarak people have been playing it safe with the Western journalists and everybody is playing nice. Unfortunately, in a last-ditch effort to save his job (and his life, maybe), Mubarak is attempting to photo-op his way out of this disaster. Small, pro-Mubarak groups have been trailing Western journalists and demonstrating (against the anti-Mubarak demonstrators) in front of the cameras. When CNN's camera crew - lead by Anderson Cooper - was trying to report from the street, these pro-Mubarak demonstrators got out of hand and attacked The Coop.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper escaped serious injury Wednesday when he was attacked by a group of demonstrators in Egypt, which has been plunged into crisis in recent days by political protests.

Cooper, 43, said he and his production crew, reporting from Cairo, were set upon by demonstrators loyal to embattled president Hosni Mubarak. “The attackers pushed and shoved the CNN crew and punched them in the head, he said, but no one was seriously hurt,” according to a report on CNN.com.

A colleague, CNN’s Steve Brusk, tweeted that Cooper was “punched 10 times in the head” by a “pro-Mubarak mob.”

The extent of Cooper’s injuries were not known, but the anchor has continued to file reports on the unrest since the incident.

[From People]

Poor Anderson. What's worse is that I get the feeling that Anderson is in no way a brawler. If that had been CNN's Michael Ware, that junk would have gotten really bloody, with Ware throwing most of the punches. I'm biased though - I love Michael Ware. He's crazy and brave, and I love the way he says "lame duck" with his Aussie accent. Anyway, Anderson took the punches like a man and continued reporting later on in the evening. See Andy describe the scene afterwards:

Mel Gibson “was trying to invite suicide by cop” after Robyn left him

Posted: 02 Feb 2011 08:18 AM PST

wenn2000138

In the March "Hollywood Issue" of Vanity Fair, Peter Biskind has written some kind of exposé of Mel Gibson's violent, drunken shenanigans. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a sympathetic piece, or merely a detailed list of TMZ and Radar's previous reporting. But it does sound interesting. Page Six got their hands on an advanced copy of the article, and Biskund claims that when his wife Robyn left him in 2006, that's when Mel really went off the rails. Apparently, Mel was getting so wasted, he was attempting to cause trouble for himself with the police, all so that the police would shoot him:

Mel Gibson sought “death by cop” after his wife, Robyn, left him while he was filming “Apocalypto” in 2006, according to Vanity Fair. Peter Biskind writes in the Hollywood issue that Gibson had started drinking again on location and returned home to LA to find Robyn had moved out with the kids.

Soon after, he infamously ranted slurs at a police officer who arrested him on suspicion of DUI following a drinking session at Moonshadows in Malibu.

A friend told VF, “He felt that he had just absolutely failed as a human being. Mel was trying to invite death by cop. I don’t think this was being anti-Semitic. I think he was trying to rile that guy into pulling out a gun and shooting him.”

The friend said Gibson had “said goodbye to every table” in the restaurant before leaving: “I believe what was going on that night was a farewell.”

Dean Devlin, who co-produced “The Patriot,” told Biskind, “He told me that when he drank, this whole other character came out . . . he was doing everything he could to redeem himself.”

Gibson’s “Lethal Weapon” co-star, Danny Glover, leapt to his defense, saying, “I know Mel in his heart, and I think he’s not the way he has been characterized.”

[From Page Six]

So Danny Glover is still on Team Mel. Interesting. I remember a joke Jon Stewart once told, which was basically like "In retrospect, it's amazing that those two were able to pull it together enough for the Lethal Weapon franchise."

As far as the "suicide by cop" angle - I mean, maybe I could buy that. I think it probably crossed Mel's mind at one point, and yes, perhaps he was even suicidal at one point. But I don't feel any sympathy for him, at all. It's not a situation where I can say "Oh, I didn't realize he felt that badly, the poor guy is really hurting." I believe he's a violent, racist son of a bitch, whether or not he's drinking.

Naomi Campbell: “I don’t read the papers, I sell papers”

Posted: 02 Feb 2011 07:53 AM PST

naomi1

This is Naomi Campbell's cover for the March issue of GQ UK. She gives an interview to the magazine, plus she conducts an interview… with Russia's former president, Vladimir Putin. It is epic. First, some select quotes from Naomi's interview. She tells the magazine: “I don’t read the papers. I sell papers.” She also talks about her appearance at Charles Taylor's war crimes tribunal, saying: "They tried to affect my work. They said the fashion industry shouldn’t use me. But what had I done wrong?” Um, Naomi, you accepted blood diamonds and then you lied about it, repeatedly, to many people. Anyway, the soft-ball Putin interview is a thing of beauty. I guess Naomi feels qualified to interview Putin because she's had a married Russian bone inside of her for a few years. The full Putin piece is here - it's amazing how Naomi and Vladimir speak to each other. It's just… I don't have words.

Naomi Campbell: You’re in pretty good physical shape. How do you manage to keep yourself so fit?
Vladimir Putin: Probably the same way you do.

Actually, I don’t work out as much as I should, but I do believe that it’s a healthy mind as well as a healthy body that keeps me fit, sound and calm.
Exactly. You just answered your own question.

What’s your fitness regime?
I go to the gym, I swim daily and from time to time I meet with friends and do extra-curricular stuff. I had a good work-out just the day before yesterday.

In the summer you were photographed on a Harley-Davidson at a bikers’ festival in Ukraine. How were you received by the bikers, the Night Wolves?
VP: Well, these are really cool guys, really tough guys. One of them was a really courageous person who travelled a few thousand kilometres on a two-wheeler bike. He’s a handicapped guy with only one leg - he lost it somewhere in Yugoslavia during the war. I’m not the tough guy, those guys are.

NC: You obviously make a great impression on women. How do you feel about the students who posed for you in the calendar? [Female students at Moscow State University in Russia produced rival calendars for Putin's 58th birthday. First, a group of journalism students in lingerie posed for a calendar with suggestive captions, such as: "You put out forest fires, but I'm still burning." Then another group hit back, posing in black, with their mouths taped shut.]
VP: I like the girls a lot, they’re beautiful. I like the calendar but it’s not the most important thing. As for the other one, well, in almost any country, probably in Russia in particular, it’s fashionable to criticise people in power. If you come out in support of someone like me, you’re going to be accused of trying to ingratiate yourself. The girls in the erotic calendar were courageous and they were not scared. As student journalists, they couldn’t fail to understand what might have been said to them after doing this. Nonetheless, they were not deterred and did the calendar anyway. So, frankly, that’s what I liked the most.

NC: You’ve been known to attend bare-knuckle fights. Ever been in one?
VP: No, it’s not my sport; since I was 14, I’ve done judo. But the bare-knuckle fight I attended was very impressive. These guys are tough. I watched the Russian, French and British teams and each and every one of these athletes deserves great credit. There are even women who do it.

NC: Big women?
VP: Not big, just strong women.

[From GQ UK]

If I wanted to read an interview equivalent of fellatio, I would still subscribe to Time Magazine. I expected more from a British men's magazine. Of course, GQ UK seems to love Naomi, for whatever reason. They've had her on their cover so many times. Perhaps she's beaten all of them into submission.

RHOBH Reunion Finale: Kyle gets nastier, Camille recovers, Kim is so gracious

Posted: 02 Feb 2011 07:26 AM PST

reunion2header
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills final reunion show was epic. A full recap and my comments are below, and I’m blockquoting it in case you want to skim over it. It’s worth reading if you have the time.

A lot happened, but overall Kyle seemed incredibly nasty, defensive and not at all apologetic for the way she treated both her sister and Camille. She did a lot of hair flipping, sneering and squinting and my opinion of her was even lower after watching this. Camille on the other hand did apologize, wasn’t that defensive and took responsibility for some of the things she did this season. She’s probably been coached by a media expert and has carefully planned her responses. Whatever she did worked because she came across so much better than she has before. Kim was very gracious, thoughtful and loving to her sister Kyle in a way that Kyle did not deserve at all. Taylor was much like Kyle in that she had a bunch of justifications for her behavior and never admitted to being wrong. Adrienne was noncommittal and almost not there and Lisa brought her own drama with her rift with scheming Cedric. Overall it was a very interesting and drama-filled ending.

reunion2inset

Kyle vs. Camille
They started with extended footage of the Kyle vs. Camille argument. Kyle was very defensive and snotty and Camille really played it off well. She’s obviously been practicing and preparing for this. Camille said that Kyle ruined her reputation by calling her “delusional” repeatedly while Kyle said that was an accurate description of Camille since she heard something that she never said.

Kim then finally sort-of tried to defend Kyle “I was definitely there and overheard the conversation.” The way Kim explained it, it was just a regular conversation “and the next thing I know, [Kyle] is crying.” When the host asked Kim if Kyle is a bully she hesitated and said “no, not normally.”

“I’ve seen her bully you,” Camille added.

Lisa defended Kyle and said it was all a misunderstanding.

As for whether there was anything she should apologize for, Camille said that her character wasn’t “rounded out” but then she reluctantly apologized for agreeing with the drunken psychic chic, Allison, that Kyle’s husband Mauricio was a cheater.

Camille claims they’re only showing a negative picture of her
“Then they take out my philanthropic work, and you don’t see the side of me with my kids.

“There was something I did with my girlfriend Diedre. Something unfortunate happened in her life and I was boasting how I do so many great things for people… D.D. comes to me and she brought it up and says ‘thank you so much for helping me and my husband this year.’” but that was not shown.

As for saying “I have this Jesus complex” on the show, Camille said “that was just pure stupidity.”

Cedric tried to blackmail Lisa after she kicked him out
Lisa said that she kept telling Cedric that it was time to move out after a year, but that he handled it extremely poorly.

“Ken asked him ‘Can you pick up your things off the floor’ and he got very nasty. He said ‘I’ve packed all my things…’ He packed them all in Ken’s suitcases. It was very upsetting. The last thing I said to him was ‘Cedric, I do not want this thrown back in my face.’

Lisa said she didn’t fight with him the day he moved out although Cedric was throwing a tantrum. Within a day he called them back at 6:30 in the morning and said he wanted to meet them.

“He went to my husband’s office, and what he wanted we weren’t prepared to give him. He said ‘We’ll give you a few days to think about it.’”

When Kyle asked her if she’d filed a police report, Lisa said “I did, which I’ve never made public or said before, but that’s ok.” Burn to Kyle!

Lisa said she couldn’t say whether Cedric wanted money, (maybe due to a pending case, although that’s speculation on my part) but that he did say he’d been offered money to sell his story.

Kyle chimed in with some ‘I told you so’ crap: “He was always looking for his 15 minutes. From the beginning I told Lisa that,” which Lisa admitted was true.

Lisa said “every word that came out of his mouth was a lie.”

As for what Cedric is doing, they showed a clip of him in his new apartment taking acting lessons. He denied that Lisa and Ken kicked him out and tried to play it off like he left on his own. He said that Lisa’s “ego was so big, she was so controlling. I’m not Jiggy [her dog].” He said that he was like unpaid help to them, and compared himself to their old blind cocker spaniel who got tossed aside. He called Lisa superficial and said she was different than she seemed on camera, among other things.

Lisa said “as far as I’m concerned he’s a lying narcissistic vindictive vile piece of…”

taylor
Taylor acts like her marriage is fine now
Taylor tried to play it off like her marriage is fine now and they’ve worked through all their issues. She was crying, but her defenses were up and she gave a bunch of pat answers about how they’ve decided to keep their marriage together after having some conversations while on vacation. She said she needs to “be more assertive about what I need” and then the other women offered her advice.

The husbands come out
Paul and Adrienne said they liked bickering and believed they should work out issues immediately instead of letting them stew. Adrienne said “of course” they have a prenup. She’s the only one out of all the wives who has one.

Russell said their marriage was difficult because of the economy and how hard he was working. As for whether he would trade Taylor in for a 20 year-old, he said “I don’t have the energy.” ha-ha.

Mauricio admitted to receiving nude pics of women admirers after his appearance on the show. Camille said she’s still working with him as her realtor and blew him a kiss, which he blew back.

They played clips of Camille fawning all over “handsome Nick.” She countered that Nick’s wife was there in many of those scenes, and that his wife is starting to get upset because people are asking her if anything is going on between Camille and Nick. Camille said “we’re flirtatious, but that’s just our friendship.” As for whether kissing Nick is inappropriate, she said “I’m Italian, we grab people’s faces and we kiss them on the lips.”

Ken said that Lisa was lying about how they only have sex twice a year because they “also have [sex] on Valentine’s day.”

Ken got really upset when he was talking about Cedric. He said “what happened in the end was just totally out of left field… He said to me the day he left ‘I f’ing hate your wife, and I hate you and I hate your f’ing kids.’ I was dumbstruck. How I didn’t hit him I don’t know to this day. I said to him ‘I’ve never met a more despicable person in my life…. I’ll never forgive you, I never want to see you again. Hate him.’”

Adrienne would never set Kim up with her brothers
Kim said she was single and dating. The host asked Adrienne if she would set Kim up with any of her single brothers and she was pretty blunt about it.

“I got great brothers, but they’re so busy and you’re kind of standoffish right now so I don’t know if that’d be a good match.”

Kyle makes excuses on whether she bullies Kim
“Yes, I can see that [how she comes across as mean].”

“We’ve always had this relationship where we joke a lot.”

“When I’m upset with her we’re sisters and it’s a much more complex relationship than with friends.”

Kim was so nice about it but again Kyle showed her true character.

Kim: “It’s like she misplaces her anger, but you take it out on the people you love and I understand.”

Kyle chimes in immediately “And she’s not any pushover, believe me. We just don’t always see that.”

When host Andy Cohen asked Camille about it, she said simply “I think Kyle has been tough on Kim. Kyle’s been tough on me.” Kyle then sneered viscously, as she’d been doing the whole show.

Kyle: “We do clash at times. I could be a lot more gentle with Kim. It’s not always one-sided, right?”

Even when she said that, it was like she was leering at Kim daring her to contradict her!

“Maybe sometimes I’m a little strong but it’s who I am [shrugs].”

Then Kyle started crying and said she’s a lot like her mom, and Kim agreed. She pulled herself together and still refused to admit that she goes after Kim.

“I think maybe tough love, I take it a little too far sometimes.”

Kim was crying and said it was hard showing everything on TV. She said “I feel at times she is a little too hard on me, and I’m very sensitive. I love her and I don’t want to fight with her. She’s the last person I want to fight with in the world.”

Kim “We’re sisters, we’ve been through everything together.”

Even when she was crying, Kyle looked at Kim like she had no right to say how she felt and like she was wrong. She was very defensive and remained snotty and entitled throughout the whole exchange.

They showed clips of Kyle putting Kim down and she looked so defiant while that was being shown. She was sighing, making faces and shaking her head “no.”

Kyle looked so annoyed when they replayed the limo fight, like she thought her terrible treatment of Kim was justified. She did cry but it seemed so fake to me. She rolled her eyes, flipped her hair and was crying not for what she did for her sister, but for the way she was coming across.

Kim was again so classy about the whole thing.

Kim “We’re at the point of recovering from the biggest fight we’ve ever had. I love my sister and I’ve never had a fight like that with her… we’re finally talking again… We’re working on it [our relationship.] I love her… in the heat of the moment things are said and done that you want to take back and you can’t and that’s why I’m just not going to go there.”

“Like I said, I really don’t want to discuss that night at all. I want to move forward with my sister. I love her. I want to make everything right. Everything is really good today and I’d like to keep it that way.”

When Andy asked Kyle where her anger came from she said “just private stuff, things I don’t… I don’t want to do this.” Then she asked to sit next to Kim.

Kyle shrugged and then framed the whole argument around HER and how SHE felt. “I would give anything to take back that night. It’s created so much anxiety over the past few months, it’s been really painful.” It’s been painful for Kyle, and it’s all about Kyle all the time.

reunion2kylefake
Kyle and Kim held hands and again Kyle wouldn’t take responsibility or really apologize. “There’s just a lot of things that let up to it that made me snap at that point… private things.”

So other things MADE Kyle snap, she didn’t snap on her own, she couldn’t help it and we just can’t understand how she got forced to be such a mean insufferable bitch.

Kyle denies that Kim supported their family, “I was also a child actor”
Kim spoke fondly about her childhood as an actress when the host brought it up. She said she doesn’t regret it and she loves that part of her life.

Andy said that Kim supported her family and bought them a house and Kyle immediately countered: “That wasn’t entirely accurate either, just to be fair. My dad was successful and he bought our home. Yes we were child actors. It wasn’t all on Kim’s shoulders. I also was a child actor.”

There we go, there’s the issue. Kim was a hugely successful actor, much more so than Kyle was, and yet Kyle acts like she was at Kim’s level of stardom. She wasn’t by any means. They’ve been playing out this dynamic from their childhood their whole lives, and that’s why Kyle treats Kim like dirt.

Lisa defended Kyle and she’s the one who brought up the “issues that need to be confronted,” i.e. Kim’s alcoholism.

Host Andy told Taylor that she’s the one who started the fight at her party
Taylor tried to defend herself as if it was all Kim’s fault for drinking too much. “There may have been other factors at play in her personality that evening.”

Lisa said “When any kind of drink is involved, people don’t say exactly what they mean.”

Andy asked Kim if she had a drinking problem, and she said “No, there’s nothing I want to talk about that night at all.”

Then he summed it up and Kim told Kyle she loved her and gave her a hug. Kyle didn’t say it back!

Dinner party from hell revisited
At that point they ended the show up by revisiting the Camille and Kyle fight and replaying the dinner party from hell. It was like a perfect dysfunctional circle.

When they played the psychic hurling insults at Kyle she had the smuggest smile on her face.

Camille said “the whole evening made me uncomfortable.” She admitted she wanted her friends there but that “there wasn’t any attack planned.”

Lisa: “[The psychic] was a nasty piece of work.”

Then they replayed most of the segment where Camille explained going after Faye Resnick and how they got off to a bad start. It was confusing that they replayed this entire segment that they already aired in the first reunion.

Kyle admitted that she had the nude photos of Camille on her Blackberry and was showing it to the women on the way over. “It’s not like we were exactly best friends Camille.”

Camille said it was a “set up” and Kyle got all defensive. Kyle got really bitchy and snotty and Camille stood her ground.

Then they showed the psychic talking about everyone and saying nasty things, and Camille admitted those things “weren’t very nice.”

As to why the psychic Allison never warned Camile about Kelsey’s infidelity she said “I think the read that she was getting on [Kyle] was me.”

Camille said she’s “cautiously optimistic” about being friends with Kyle and she called her a riot and gave her a lot of compliments. Kyle was flattered, flipped her hair, and then said “we really are so different.”

Regrets
Lisa said she had none. Taylor said she regretted the Oklahoma comment.

Kyle had regrets, but she didn’t take responsibility for them. She said said she regretted “what’s happened between Camille and me. I regret not handling any issues I had with my sister better. I think that I can walk away from this saying that I’ve learned a lot.”

Adrienne didn’t have any regrets.

Kim said she had regrets and regrets “the arguing between Taylor and I. The arguing between my sister and I, but I don’t regret making wonderful friends and being where I’m at today, which is in a great place.”

Camille said “I have a lot of regrets.” She then apologized to Kyle, something Kyle never did for her. “[To Kyle] I’m so sorry. I’ve really had a tough year. That’s no excuse.” Then she kind of squinted like a warning to Kyle. This shit isn’t over.

[Recap from RHOBH reunion part 2, aired 2-1-11]

Kyle is the real villain of this show, and while Camille is a narcissistic twit who is more than capable of pulling her own stunts and denying culpability she’s learned how to work the media. Camille really put Kyle in her place last night, and she did it by playing innocent and playing lip service to taking responsibility while Kyle continued to get snotty and rude. Kim deserves a lot of credit for how well she handled that situation and how kind she was to Kyle after all Kyle put her through. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kim quietly got sober and has stayed sober even after dropping out of rehab.

The ladies of the RHOBH were on Ellen yesterday, all except Kim. Kyle revealed that Kim’s not certain whether or not she’ll do another season. As I mentioned in our last recap, I think Kim should step aside. Taylor will need a new target and I bet she’ll turn on her BFF Kyle, who will then be the low woman on the totem pole. Just wait.

Elton John: Billy Joel is an alcoholic, and he needs rehab

Posted: 02 Feb 2011 07:18 AM PST

williamjoel

At some point, Elton John became the den-mother to all of the broken, drunken, and drugged-out musicians in the world. Elton famously battled his own addictions, and now he steps in and speaks out when he thinks he sees another celebrity who is going down the path of addiction. Eminem memorably gave Elton credit when Em spoke about his own rehab and recovery - Em and Elton are tight now, and Elton was one of the people who encouraged Em to get clean. And now Elton is stepping up for another friend - Billy Joel. Billy and Elton have done tours together, and I believe that they are close friends in real life. Now, Billy Joel has, like, a million DUIs and various incidents of drunken shenanigans. It's been going on for years, and now Elton is stepping up - in a new Rolling Stone interview - to say that Billy needs rehab, and he needs to take it seriously.

Elton John says Billy Joel needs to get serious about rehab and “do something better” with his life. John makes the comments about his former touring partner in the Feb. 17 edition of Rolling Stone magazine. He tells the magazine the pair canceled many tours because of Joel’s illnesses and “alcoholism.”

He also says Joel should do rehab like he did it – with patients cleaning floors, not watching television.

John says he knows Joel is going to “hate” him for this. But he says Joel needs tough love.

Joel spent a month in a California rehab center for treatment of alcohol abuse in 2005. He spent about two weeks at a Connecticut facility in 2002.

A representative for Joel hasn’t returned an Associated Press e-mail request for comment on John’s remarks.

[From The Huffington Post]

Billy Joel is 61 years old… which is younger than I was expecting. I really thought he was in his late 60s or early 70s! That's what alcoholism does to you, children. It ages you like a mofo. Anyway, my point about Billy being 61 years old: perhaps he thinks he's just too old to start a new, sober life? Perhaps he just wants to go out in an alcoholic blaze of glory? I'm not making excuses, I'm just saying that it might have been more interesting if Elton had stepped up years ago.

Halle Berry accuses Gabriel Aubry of verbal threats, racial slurs

Posted: 02 Feb 2011 06:40 AM PST

wenn2305416

I was all prepared to begin writing about Gabriel Aubry's new public statement (via his rep) when I saw that this custodial drama between Halle Berry and Gabriel had taken the cover of this week's People Magazine (see the cover here). Since it seems these two jags are bound and determined to fight this entire thing in the public sphere, I am only going to continue my non-committal attitude towards taking sides. I know many of you have already picked your side - that's fine. I think they are both behaving inappropriately, and the accusations that are currently flying around are immature and nasty. Okay, first up: Gabe's latest defense, via his rep to Us Weekly:

Gabriel Aubry isn’t going down without a fight. One day after Halle Berry announced she was pulling out of a movie (New Year’s Eve) to focus on “custody issues” related to her two-year-old daughter Nahla, Aubry’s rep at Wilhelmina Models released a statement on his behalf.

“While Gabriel is disappointed in Halle’s decision to falsely malign him publicly and for her own purposes, he refuses to be pulled into her dispute over a canceled film production,” his rep told Access Hollywood. “Gabriel also refuses to air their issues in the press as he believes this may ultimately harm their daughter. The fact is that Gabriel is a caring father who shares custody of Nahla.”

“Gabriel fully believes that a consistent and balanced living situation and two loving parents are crucial for their child even if Ms. Berry feels otherwise,” his rep continued. “He will always defend his rights as a father and will always consider Nahla’s best interest. Halle’s continuing allegations in the press are untrue and irresponsible.”

The 44-year-old Oscar winner’s rep previously told UsMagazine.com that Berry had “attempted to resolve these custody issues amicably with her daughter’s father…but given his lack of cooperation, Halle has no choice but to seek swift judicial intervention.”

Up until recently, the ex-lovers appeared to be amicably co-parenting in the wake of their April split. But on December 30, Aubry asked the courts to be formally recognized as Nahla’s father and to establish shared custody.

[From Us Weekly]

I believe that Gabriel is leaking his "side" of the story to any outlet that will listen, meaning that he's talking to Radar, TMZ and Us Weekly. Halle seems content to push her accusations in People Magazine, the celebrity bible. And People has rewarded her with a cover story full of what could be potentially libelous accusations:

After splitting last April, Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry seemed determined to remain peaceful co-parents of their daughter Nahla, who will turn 3 in March. But tensions rose quickly, and now Nahla’s parents are gearing up for a custody battle that’s already turning nasty, with ugly accusations flying.

“Once they broke up he became verbally threatening to Halle,” Aubry’s former friend and business partner Stephane Bibeau tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “He is a vindictive guy.” Bibeau and other sources close to Berry, 44, claim that Aubry, 35, has used a racial slur against her.

“That’s just unacceptable,” a source close to the actress says.

“The fact is that Gabriel is a caring father who shares custody of Nahla,” according to a statement released by Aubry’s rep Tuesday.

Friends of the French-Canadian model – who filed court papers on Dec. 30, seeking formal recognition as Nahla’s father and joint legal and physical custody – expressed support for him.

“I never saw someone more dedicated to their child,” a friend of Aubry’s says.

Adds a source close to Aubry: “From the beginning, Halle kind of had the upper hand because she was essentially supporting all of them for the most part. Gabriel never liked how that felt. Their split was tough because they’re both so involved in raising Nahla, and neither ever wanted to give that up.”

Berry sees it differently. Her rep issued a statement to PEOPLE on Monday, expressing her “serious concerns for her daughter’s well-being while in the care of her father.”

“The only reason Gabriel is seeing Nahla right now is because the court hasn’t made a decision yet,” says a source close to the actress. “If it were up to Halle, he wouldn’t be seeing her at all without some sort of supervision.”

[From People]

So Gabe was verbally threatening to Halle, and he's a bad father, AND he was calling her racist names, so says Team Halle. I end up feeling kind of bad for Gabe, because he seems so out-matched in this tug-of-war. Originally, he seemed like he merely wanted to formalize some kind of custodial arrangement, but now it's looking like Halle is going after his balls.

Also - the anti-Gabe stuff keeps going: yesterday, there was reporting from TMZ & Radar regarding Gabe's relationship with Kim Kardashian, and how THAT was Halle's breaking point. Now TMZ has a story from one of Gabe's ex-girlfriends, who is calling Gabe a jailbait-loving gold-digger. Ugh. Ugly, ugly, ugly.

Brandi Glanville’s new “boyfriend” used to bone Lance Bass

Posted: 02 Feb 2011 06:39 AM PST

brandi_glanville_001_wenn5602125

These are new, hilarious photos of Brandi Glanville with her new "boyfriend," a “makeup artist” named Cedric Martinez. Yes, I'm calling him a "boyfriend" because the guy is beeping hard on my gaydar, and that was before I even looked him up. Apparently, he's super-gay, meaning he once dated… Lance Bass! Oh, and he's Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Lisa Vanderpump's "permanent houseguest". So… gay. But that isn't stopping the photo agencies from trying to make this junk happen, though. Fame Pictures calls him Brandi's "shy new boyfriend" and describes this outing as a "lunch date". WAIT… "shy"? Can we really describe someone wearing that kind of titty man-blouse as "shy"?

But wait… why is trying to get Brandi to clutch his dong for the cameras?!? Maybe he's bisexual. Maybe he's not so gay after three "lunch martoonis". Maybe… I've got nothing.

OH GOD, he has a Twitter page too!!! So many LOLs this morning.

Did Jennifer Aniston drunkenly slur her way through Conan’s interview?

Oooh, this should get people riled up! Now that I've convinced myself that Jennifer Aniston is drunk most of the time (I believe it because it explains so much), I can't help but notice how she seems somewhat disoriented in some of her first promotional interviews, during her PR tour for Just Go With It. Aniston was on Conan last night, and for the first few minutes, there were some notable slurs and oddly timed awkward moments. But then everything evened out a little bit. Also - I think Aniston was doing that drunk thing of talking too loud - I do that too when I'm hammered. She really does seem to be talking louder than needed, although perhaps I just think that because I find her voice kind of annoying.

There's an interesting bit where Conan asks her to confirm or deny various tabloid rumors. Conveniently, Aniston was just on Star Magazine with an adoption story, so that gave her something to talk about and deny - which she's been doing in every interview thus far. Conan also asked her about the rumor that Aniston contractually mandates that the crew can't get within 20 feet of her while she's on set - Aniston denied that story as well, although I have to admit something: I've heard some version of "Aniston doesn't want the peasants to talk to her" over and over again throughout the years.

Last thing - Aniston is appearing on Ellen today, and Ellen asks her if she has plans to adopt another dog:

She had her rep issue a denial to PEOPLE, and now Jennifer Aniston is doing it herself.

During a taping for Thursday’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the actress shot down rumors that she’s going to become a mother.

When DeGeneres asked, “Are you going to adopt another dog?”, Aniston replied, “I think you’re confusing that with the Mexican child I’m supposedly adopting.”

“Oh, are you going to adopt a Mexican child?” the host asks.

“No, I’m not adopting a Mexican child,” says Aniston, 41, joking that her Just Go With It costar Adam Sandler “adopted four last week and that never even got mentioned. No, I’m not adopting any children.”

As for the first question, Aniston adds, “And no doggies right now.”

[From People]

No babies, no dogs, she's going to the SuperBowl and she's still talking about her hair. It's like an interview from 2004!

Two and a Half Men will start filming with Charlie Sheen in less than a month

According to TMZ, Charlie Sheen’s at-home rehab will barely interfere with production of his hit CBS comedy, Two and a Half Men. It’s thought that Charlie will be back on set within 3-4 weeks, which will ensure that the show remains on the air and that cast and crew don’t go without pay while they wait for him to decide whether his life has become unmanageable.

Charlie Sheen will return to “Two and a Half Men” in 3-4 weeks — at least that’s now the plan — and producers will make up the episodes so no one from the cast or crew will be out any money … TMZ has learned.

Sources connected with the show tell us … although nothing is in stone … they’re told by the addiction specialist that Charlie could be back to work next month. If that happens, producers would most likely make up the two missed shows at the end of the production season.

Bottom line — no one will lose money and the show could be back on track.

[From TMZ]

As E! reports, the show is just as popular as ever and was top in its time slot on Monday. That means that the star and chief money-maker Charlie will be propped up and shipped back to work, where he’ll act like everything is fine and bring in the big bucks to fuel his drugged out orgies.

There’s news that Charlie’s famous parents, Martin Sheen and Charlie’s mom, Janet, are working to establish some kind of conservatorship over their 45 year-old son. They realize it’s a long shot, but are so worried for him that they’re considering it. Radar Online quotes an insider who says “Charlie’s parents are discussing getting a conservatorship of their son. Martin and Janet know that it’s highly unlikely their petition would be granted, but they are trying to do whatever possible to save Charlie’s life.”

Charlie’s most talkative paid company from the night he was rushed to the hospital with a “hernia,” porn star Kacey Jordan, was on Howard Stern this week where she gave a more salacious version of her adventures with the TV star than the one she told GMA. On Stern, Jordan mentioned that Charlie has a mouth full of gold teeth that he covers will some kind of veneer grill.

TMZ has a photo of Charlie taken on that night, when he was presumably in the midst of his crack, pot and booze binge. He looks like death. As long as the dude is still breathing and making people money, they’ll put him on the job.

W Magazine responds to Kim Kardashian’s freakout over nude pics: it’s art

On Monday we saw a clip from Kim Kardashian’s new reality show spinoff with her sister, Kourtney, in which Kim initially responds to her nude W Magazine spread from last October by wailing that she was promised when she posed nude that all of her ladyparts would be obscured in the photos. Kim’s breasts and nether region were covered and airbrushed to perfection on the cover of the magazine, in which written art by Barbara Kruger served as a kind of visual bikini. Inside, we got to see her ample assets covered in just silver paint, including her breasts and storebought ass, without the benefit of any coverage or even much digital retouching. Instead of responding to Kim’s complaint that she was promised no nudity, W Magazine issued a statement in which they just talked about their artistic vision and how they were treating her body as a work of art. Kim has said as much in her own statements about the pictorial last year, given after she had time to consider how much she could increase her appearance fee after the minor controversy over these photos. Here’s W’s statement:

In keeping in line with the theme of W Magazine's November Art Issue, Kim Kardashian's cover was conceived as an artistic collaboration with well-known artist Barbara Kruger, and was a meditation on the influence that reality TV has on contemporary culture.

The inside portfolio documented the career and power of Kim Kardashian as a work of art, using the language of artists like Jeff Koons (see Rabbit) and Gilbert & George (see The Singing Sculpture).

[From NYMag via US Weekly]

W Magazine is responding to Kim’s complaint that the spread was “full on porn” by saying it was art. They pointedly do not address whether they promised her she would be covered inside the magazine. A lot of you called her dumb for posing nude and then crying when the photos came out, but if these people swore up and down that nothing would be shown she has the right to expect that to be the case - even though she’s posed for Playboy and has a sex tape out. This whole thing has long since blown over and Kim was ok with it in the end. She’s surely glad that it’s all being revisited in the press now. As naive as she seems, she sure knows how to bombard us with everything she’s got.
