Demi Lovato Tells Disney Eating Disorders Aren’t a Joke Posted: 24 Dec 2011 08:53 AM PST Usually Disney is the one getting embarrassed by the actions of their teen stars, but in a major role reversal former Disney actress Demi Lovato is calling them out for being inappropriate.
Disney is pulling both episodes that seemed to say starving is funny, with a PR rep tweeting, “We hear you & are pulling both episodes as quickly as possible & reevaluating them … It's NEVER our intention to make light of eating disorders!” It’s great Demi caught the line and they’re reacting, but I wonder why they’d put it in in the first place. On a channel watched mostly by pre-teens, not eating shouldn’t be used as a punch line, it should be incorporated into a PSA. Parents freak out about their children looking up to Hannah Montana then seeing Miley with a salvia bong, but maybe they should be worried about what kind of messages their kids are getting from the actually Disney scripts. Five Christmas Movies That Are More Sinister Than You Think Posted: 24 Dec 2011 08:19 AM PST If you want a Christmas-y horror movie, there are a lot to choose from Santa’s Slay to Black Christmas. But even if you stick to the kid-friendly flicks of your childhood, you might end up watching something bleaker than you remember. Cheery holiday tunes will mix in with dead dolls and a late Santa, and you’ll wonder how you could have missed all the dark undertones when you had to fit in Home Alone before bedtime.

Andy Serkis Continues To Outshine His Co-Stars, This Time In The Adventures Of Tintin Posted: 23 Dec 2011 03:39 PM PST Four months ago, we were raving about Andy Serkis stealing the spotlight from James Franco in Rise of the Planet of the Apes—and did we mention that he did this while playing the titular ape? Now, the immensely talented motion-capture actor rounds out 2011 by yet again garnering more attention than his younger counterpart. In Steven Spielberg‘s The Adventures of Tintin, Andy plays the hapless, perpetually drunk Captain Haddock, the unlikely ally to the film’s supposed star Tintin (Jamie Bell). But consensus, drawn from other reviews as well as my own thoughts on this fun movie, are that Andy was way better than Jamie. And he made these slam dunks against younger, hotter actors without ever showing his face. The movie is filled in that often-creepy style of motion capture, where actors wear little tracking tags on their faces and bodies while they act, so that the animators can later layer over the CGI character’s skin and features. Unlike The Polar Express, neither actor matches his respective character; however, Tintin comes across as bland while Haddock is raucously funny but still grave and scared and angry. Is it fair to say that Andy has had much more practice, which is why Haddock seemed to possess five times the number of expressions that Jamie’s Tintin had? The photo above is of the two of them during shooting; it’s unclear if they were actually filming a scene when it was taken, but Jamie seems stiff and nervous, Andy much more at ease. After all, he’s a old pro, one of the only pros really, of this technology. Here’s the two of them on the big screen: Jamie shouldn’t feel bad; in fact, he’s joined some pretty distinguished company, as one of many actors whose pathos pales in comparisons to Andy’s CGI creations. You’ve got Naomi Watts in King Kong, James and Freida Pinto in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and I’d venture to say even Elijah Wood in The Lord of the Rings. In a recent interview with Moviefone, Jamie acknowledged that he was going into the whole motion-capture thing blind and that Andy’s work is really intimidating:
Ironically, Jamie and Andy worked together before in 2005′s King Kong, where Andy embodied the titular ape and Jamie was the “wild” crew member Jimmy, who tried to take him down. There are flickers of good chemistry between the two characters — like when a misunderstanding prompts Tintin to share how he really feels about Haddock’s drinking — but in most scenes I found my eyes pulled away from Tintin’s open, inquisitive face to Haddock’s weathered, suspicious one. CNN seems to agree with me, writing in their review, Jamie Bell’s Tintin is fine, but as fans will know, it’s the redoubtable dipsomaniac Captain Haddock who keeps the show ticking over. TribToday adds, Haddock outshines the title character, who is earnest and likable as voiced by Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot) but not particularly charismatic. All this is not to say that Jamie Bell was somehow lacking, but rather, Andy Serkis just cannot be stopped. Not only was he savvy enough to get in on a new technology when it was still nascent, but he’s created truly memorable characters through mo-cap. Imagine not having Gollum from Lord of the Rings as we know him! Would you really have sympathized with the rebellious apes if Andy as Caesar had not been slowly teaching them how to overthrow their human captors? Andy Serkis doesn’t deserve an Oscar for his role in Tintin; the movie was fun but not transcendental. However, this man deserves an Oscar, no matter what.

Amber Portwood Will Have to Celebrate Christmas Behind Bars Posted: 23 Dec 2011 02:26 PM PST Amber Portwood of Teen Mom and the police blotter won’t get to spend Christmas with her family this year, she’ll be spending the holidays, and everyday though January 27th in jail. Amber most recently found herself in trouble with the law on the 16th when she was picked up for probation violations. Some of the condition she’s so far ignored include not getting her GED or taking anger management classes. The thought of Amber’s adorable daughter Leah spending Christmas without her mom is sad, but maybe this stint in a cell will wake Amber up and make her work that much harder to make a better life for herself and her daughter. Video: This Dog Hates Christmas So Much! Posted: 23 Dec 2011 12:44 PM PST Here’s a video of a dog getting dressed up in all kinds of festive Christmas things: he gets a Santa hat, some reindeer antlers, a scarf, and even a whole bunch of Xmas lights. But he hates all of it! It makes him so sad! Maybe he’s Jewish? Lest you think this is entirely a cruel depiction of some folks dressing their miserable dog up for the sake of making a funny video, know that there’s a happy surprise at the end. So happy, in fact, that it’s probably worth giving him an entire Santa suit. (via Videogum) Post from: Crushable |
The Bel Ami Trailer is Pretty and Sometimes Puzzling Posted: 23 Dec 2011 11:30 AM PST
Why is Pattinson so angry is he’s the one who’s sleeping with other people’s wives? Who gave him the direction express your sadness by putting your fist in your mouth and gnawing at it like its a chicken leg? Why does Christina Ricci’s voice seem to be getting higher every year? Another question is when the movie will drop in the US; right now it’s without an American release date, but if you absolutely can’t wait to see Edward in a top hat, you can take a trip to England for the March opening.
