How to Get Miranda Kerr's Cool-Weather Look Posted: 23 Mar 2011 11:04 AM PDT The following is a guest post from our friends at Luckymag.com. Fresh-faced Australian model Miranda Kerr has been in the spotlight for the past year with her marriage to Orlando Bloom and birth of baby Flynn. In early March she stunned on the runways at Balenciaga a mere two months after giving birth, and as much as we love seeing her with her beautiful family, we always love to see her looks off the runway. Here she reminds us that we are still in the throes of winter with her super-chic shearling jacket and cozy gray scarf, but she takes it up a notch with her felt cloche hat and bookishly classic blue flat satchel. We’ve done the legwork so you can enjoy her look for less:

'The Dark Knight Rises': 5 Things You Didn't Know About Black Mask Posted: 23 Mar 2011 10:25 AM PDT Okay, okay, we lied: In spite of the fact that two days ago, Variety was reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was set to play Alberto Falcone in The Dark Knight Rises, this may not actually be the case. Of course, all we’ve got at this juncture is that “a source close to the situation” has stated that the casting rumor is incorrect, and given that the rumor initially came from “insiders” connected to the film, it’s anyone’s guess who’s right– if, in fact, ANYONE is right. Other rumors have speculated that our pal Joe will actually be playing Black Mask. So who’s Black Mask? Allow me to enlighten you: 1) He was dropped on the head as a baby. 2) He’s rabid. 3) The mask is symbolic. 4) He’s a bit of a pyromaniac. 5) He’s a cult leader. Art Crush: Christina Christoforou's 'Whose Hair' Is A Guessing Game Of A Book Posted: 23 Mar 2011 09:45 AM PDT
We’re obsessed with Christina Christoforou‘s delightful book of illustrations called Whose Hair? Each page features a different drawing of a famous person’s hair, sans any other identifying features. It’s a guessing game for readers, who can find the solution to the coif-related trivia questions at the end of the book. We decided to play a little game of our own with five images taken from the book. How many can you get? Answers are on the last slide. (Whose Hair? is out now from Laurence King Publishing.) If You've Got an Hour to Spare, Watch Lady Gaga Answer Your Questions at Google Posted: 23 Mar 2011 09:28 AM PDT Last week, Lady Gaga opened a “moderate” function on her YouTube page, and allowed fans to submit questions. (Others did the same on Twitter, using #GoogleGoesGaga.) Last night, Gaga visited Google HQ to answer those questions and discuss how Google searches and other products have helped her skyrocket to fame in the last four years. The talk, with Google VP of consumer products Marissa Mayer, is over an hour long, so settle in. Gaga said that her fans have made her brave, that while she spent the beginning of her career displaying and explaining her outlandish fashion choices, it means a lot when interviewers ask a more normal question, like how she’s doing. The first video question does just that, and Gaga admitted to getting a bit “choked up.” When asked how her former classmates, who had made fun of her, respond to her fame, Gaga laughed that she gets a lot of concert ticket requests. She clarifies that though she always felt like a loser, not a winner, she wouldn’t shove her success in others’ faces. “I just want to make music,” she said. One fan wanted to know why all of her tattoos are on her left side, which made for a fascinating answer: Gaga’s father had requested it. “He asked that I remain, on one side, slightly ‘normal,’” she explained, also citing the fact that she is lefthanded, despite her dad’s attempts to make her write righthandedly. “I guess he thinks this is my Marilyn Monroe side,” she said, gesturing to the right, “and this is my Iggy Pop side” for the left. “You will never see me do reality television,” she declared. “Don't even ask, it will never happen… I'm not that kind of person. My whole life is a performance piece, so I don't need to have my picture taken to feel that I'm in a moment of art.” Gaga also discussed the style of her videos, young fans like 10-year-old Maria Aragon, paparazzi, and whether she had ever Googled herself (yes). I admit that I’m used to a more tightlipped Gaga, as she described herself early in her career, so it’s great to see her give honest, authentic answers. Video: 'Secret Life of the American Teenager' Is Obsessed with Sex Posted: 23 Mar 2011 08:49 AM PDT Secret Life of the American Teenager is a weird show. They have old-fashioned, almost Puritanical beliefs about sex (one character thinks her dad died as a punishment for her losing her virginity), and yet the characters on the show talk about it almost to the point of obsession. Considering that Secret Life is also the brainchild of Brenda Hampton, this isn’t surprising. As the creator and producer of 7th Heaven, Hampton had her characters constantly prying into each others’ sex lives and being judgmental about it – considering the pilot episode of that show had Jessica Biel‘s character ask Barry Watson‘s character (those characters were siblings, btw) to kiss her, I wouldn’t expect anything less. The Daily Bieber: Justin Pranks Willow Smith Posted: 23 Mar 2011 08:58 AM PDT Justin Bieber whips his hair back and forth! The Biebs and his part of his entourage, including swagger coach Scooter Braun, punk’d show opener Willow Smith by adorning hair extensions and hopping onstage with to rock out with Willow’s background dancers. Willow’s reaction? “They got me, but it’s not over. Revenge is sweet, and it’s served on a cold dish.” Idiom fail, but adorable nonetheless. Post from: Crushable |
4chan Understands Internet Privacy Better Than Facebook Posted: 23 Mar 2011 08:33 AM PDT At SXSW last week, 4chan founder Christopher Poole (known for a long time only by his screen name moot) criticized Mark Zuckerberg‘s vision for an online identity. Where the viewpoints of these two pivotal Internet players diverge is the dilemma of whether people should use their real name or a pseudonym on various websites. You may have noticed that on every site you log on to — from Anthropologie to HuffPo — there’s the option to share, like, or comment on an article using your Facebook. On many, you’ve already been helpfully logged in. This is Zuckerberg’s ideal: One identity broadcast across every website and digital community that you frequent. It’s like when you first got a Facebook and filled in your favorite movies and TV shows, but now it’s pulled from your online history. It’s a little overwhelming, and yet it makes some sense. Users are more accountable and more authentic in their interactions. It’s like the adage “actions speak louder than words”, because you know who’s making those actions. But what about people who are comfortable saying the words but don’t want their name attached to them? Poole’s image board 4chan, despite its reputation as one of the Internet’s most depraved places, allows its users to sign in anonymously or under a screen name. Poole compared their freedom to being an innocent kid, willing to experiment because s/he isn’t held to possible failures. It encourages interaction in a "completely unvarnished, unfiltered, raw way." Exploring the fandom world under a pseudonym was incredibly freeing for me, both when I started out (age 12) and as I’ve started to ease back into that world. When I was younger, I could try new styles of writing; if I failed, there was very little accountability. Considering my young age when I began, I learned a lot about sex from reading and writing fanfiction — but I’m hardpressed to tell you what my screen name was, to protect whatever naive writings I put on the Internet. In fact, I just linked my LiveJournal and Fanfiction.net profiles to my Gmail — because it’s a nice confidence booster to get the occasional good review on my Blackberry — and yet I’m still wary that someone can connect those silly fan interests to my real life, and that I will somehow suffer if that happens. It doesn’t help that even LiveJournal has a Facebook Connect button now. Online craft marketplace Etsy recently had a privacy breach, where a new function called People Search publicized buyers’ history on the site and on Google. The main backlash came from people who thought they were buying sensitive products like extra-large dildos anonymously; but if they had even “liked” an item, it showed up attached to their name in search results. Etsy has since fixed the problem and automatically set all history back to private, but it still shows how easily our covers can get blown. Post from: Crushable |

Parenting Lessons from 'Teen Mom 2': No One Can Take Custody If You Don't Sign It Over Posted: 23 Mar 2011 08:24 AM PDT It seems like everyone is in court this week: Jenelle’s mom sees a lawyer about the credit card theft, Chelsea goes after Adam for child support, and Kailyn decides to formalize her custody agreement. The only exception is Leah, who gets to go to the hospital instead. Next week is the season finale, which means we’ll finally get to see Jenelle and Kieffer’s arrest, Leah and Corey’s wedding, and … some other stuff.
