Jennifer Aniston’s SmartWater commercial: cute or annoying?

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 08:48 AM PST

This is a really long commercial for SmartWater! More than two and a half minutes to fill, all to shill SmartWater, which I have never tasted (I have a water filter that works just fine, thank you very much). Anyway, Jennifer Aniston is "the face" of Smart Water (and she also has stock in the company), so she's the star of this little commercial. I guess they just want it to go viral ("turns into a virus" as Aniston says), so they fluffed it up a bit with Internet sensations:

Okay, I have to admit - this was kind of cute. My favorite parts are where the parrot calls her Rachel and when the puppies are, like, attacking her crotch. I also kind of like that she's putting herself out there as ditzy and out-of-touch with the Internet terminology and viral stars. It makes her look dated, but not in a bad way.

They should have filmed this after her new haircut though. Seeing her throw her long, flat-ironed hair back like she's Farrah is not exciting. And this is much more enjoyable than her SmartWater print ads.

Jude Law is going to get someone pregnant in Brazil

fp_6924334_law_jude_riocarnival_reg_01_07

I've noticed a recent trend the past few months - whenever I see new photos of Jude Law, I burst out laughing. There's just something about his face lately, the way he dresses, the way he poses for the camera, and what he's been doing… it's all hilarious to me. The look on his face is often "I'm a naughty boy, and I'm fabulous!" I think that's what gets me. There's a smugness to him, but he's self-aware enough to laugh at himself.

Anyway, these photos are of Jude at Carnival in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Jude is likely getting PAID for his appearance, because why else would he be doing this amazing photo-op? The lovely blonde he's with is Brazilian TV host Hebe Carmengo, who interviewed him and then tried to nail him in front of the cameras. She's AMAZING.

Oh, and YES, somebody is definitely getting pregnant with a Law Baby in Brazil. His sperm will not be stopped!

Demi Lovato makes a video for all of her fans that supported her

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 07:48 AM PST

Above is a video that Demi Lovato made over the weekend. Demi is thanking her fans for supporting her through her emotional breakdown a few months ago, in which Demi went into rehab for her eating disorder and what appeared to be a nervous breakdown. Demi got out of rehab back in January (although she’s still being treated as an out-patient, to my knowledge)… and this is her first public statement, to my knowledge. Demi says in part:

“I wanted to let you know that I am back and home…I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the support you guys have given me along the way…Your support is what got me through this… The journey that I’ve been on has been very difficult over the past few months. I was dealing with issues that I know not only girls just my age but of all ages are dealing with. I hope to one day raise awareness… so I can help people the way you helped me during this rough time. I can’t tell you how much light you guys brought into my life in probably the darkest time of my life. Without you guys, I wouldn’t be here today…I am excited to get back to work.”

Well… good for her. I'm still worried though, just because of those rumors that she's still hanging out with noted jailbait-loving douche Wilmer Valderrama. Wilmer is the kind of predator that can destroy any young girl's sanity, over and over again.

Gwen Stefani covers Elle UK: what is she promoting?

Gwen Stefani covers the April issue of Elle UK - the high quality image is the subscribers' cover, and the low-quality image is the newsstand version. Honestly, I don't know what Gwen is selling at this point. I don't think she even has an album coming out, so she's probably just promoting the fashion stuff. She just had a runway show a few weeks ago, at New York Fashion Week, I think. So that's probably what she's promoting. I apologize for not having any interview excerpts yet - nothing has been released!

ellegwen

Below, I’ve included some photos of Gwen, Gavin and… Zuma, I think. They were in LA yesterday, and they were pap’d, as they are very often. A lot of people have noted that Gwen is a lot like Jennifer Garner - in that we always have new photos of Gwen and her family, and that maybe Gwen uses these controlled photo-ops to control her image and to famwhore herself out a bit. I don't know… for a while, Jennifer and The Dimple Parade was making daily appearances in front of the paps, but she's settled down quite a bit, and suddenly haven't been any daily paparazzi-friendly outings in a few months (which makes me think that Garner can control it, you know?). Does Gwen use the same method? When there are rumors about Gavin and that transvestite, did Gwen use public outings to defuse the situation? I wasn't paying attention. All I know is that Gwen, Gavin and the boys do get photographed a lot.

Entire cast of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is returning for next season

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 07:23 AM PST

rhobh2
There’s news that the entire cast of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, including classy alcoholic Kim Richards and recent divorcee Camille Grammer, have signed on for a second season of the show. I think this may speak to Kim’s need for a source of recurring income more than any desire to continue to expose her anxiety issues and her dysfunctional relationship with her mean sister. Here’s more, from Hollywood Life:

rhobh3

All of our favorite ladies from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills are resigning their contracts with the show for a second season, HollywoodLife.com can exclusively confirm. Camille Grammer, Taylor Armstrong and Kim Richards were on the fence but they all said yes today.

"Taylor was hesitating because of the spotlight on her marriage which caused problems for her and her husband Russell, who is actually a genuinely good man," says a source close to Lisa Vanderpump, another star of the show. "They actually have a pretty happy marriage but it wasn't portrayed that way, but she wants another chance at showing how they really are in love with each other."

And as for Camille? "She had the hardest decision to make after dealing with Kelsey so blatantly rushing to marry his mistress (Kayte Walsh), and she has her children to worry about," reveals our insider. "But she is holding on strong for her children and we'll be able to see how she deals with the grief in the new season. I'm sure she will show how dignified she can be in the face of her traumatic experience."

"Kim and her sister Kyle obviously have a lot to work on, but they have both signed on as well," continues our source.

"They are all very excited and will try to be more savvy about how they portray themselves. In reality, they get along better off-camera and want to show they aren't just about shopping and cattiness."

[From Hollywood Life]

Taylor was not hesitating no matter what she wants us to believe. She needs the money to continue hustling like the true grifter she is.

I finally watched the RHOBH “lost footage” special over the weekend and there were a couple of interesting scenes in there. I was practically crying when Lisa’s little teacup Pomeranian, Giggy, was having skin issues and the breeder told Lisa to put him down! (My mom lost her Shih Tzu very recently due to allergies to dust mites. He ultimately had to be put to sleep after he had a neurological reaction to the very toxic allergy medication the vet put him on.) Giggy turned out fine and remains one of the most pampered pets on television.

Also there was footage of Kyle viciously going after a drunk woman who was hanging on her husband at their white party. Kim spat at the older woman that she would put a “Manolo” in her eye. Leave it to Kyle to name drop a designer when she’s making threats. She also didn’t even scold her husband for not pushing the woman off. Maybe that psychic was right about him. I wouldn’t be surprised.

Kate Winslet in Vogue UK: “Being single is an empowering thing”

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 06:50 AM PST

winslet11

These are two photos from Kate Winslet's cover shoot with the April issue of Vogue UK. Mario Testino did the shots - and I really, really hate them. HER HAIR. I'm sure that's a wig and everything, but whoever styled this junk is just wrong. Kate is such a beautiful woman - she doesn't need to be jacked up in a platinum wig, and she doesn't need to mess with her face either. Ugh, just let Kate be Kate. Anyway, there are some interview excerpts leaking out from the cover profile - Kate talks about her divorce from Sam Mendes, and she seems… pretty healthy, I guess.

Kate on her single status: "(It’s an) empowering thing… Experiencing those moments of being alone… is a very, very weird flooring and exposing position to be in when you’re just not used to it. And it’s not just being in a relationship. It’s also the fact that I grew up in a family full of people.”

On having her own space: “I’ve never been lonely. And with kids Mia and Joe that remains the case. But to be in this place now where I can say I really like this space. I really need to not have anyone around. It’s a surprise to discover that I like being on my own.”

On refusing to do therapy after her split: “One of the reasons I’ve never done intensive psychotherapy or any of that stuff is that if there’s anything in me that needs fixing, I want to know that I can rely on my own intuition to fix it.”

[From Vogue UK, via The Sun]

Taken with Kate's interview in the April Glamour Magazine, where Kate claimed that she was doing fine, and that she hadn't had anything "surgical" done to her face, I tend to think that Kate's attitude after her divorce from Sam Mendes is pretty good, although she's really TRYING to sound like she's doing well. I give her credit for staying so upbeat and not drowning herself in a pity party, and I give her credit for not attacking Sam Mendes too. I believe that she's honestly happy where she is right now, BUT - I also think she's used to having a man. She's one of those women - she's always had a boyfriend or a husband, and this is maybe the first time she's been without a relationship in more than a decade. She's adjusting. And I'm glad she isn't focused on jumping into another relationship right away.

Blake Lively at the Paris Chanel event: too-thin mall girl or true beauty?

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 06:23 AM PST

As I've mentioned before, Blake Lively's boobs are the face of Chanel's Mademoiselle handbag line - the first ad is below, and it's pretty basic. Still, Blake being associated with such a high-end luxury brand definitely helps her image, and it ups her credibility as a "Fashion Girl". Plus, we get all of these marvelous photos of her at events for Chanel, with Karl Lagerfeld. Blake loves every minute of it. The Kaiser does NOT.

boobs

Anyway, these particular photos are from the Chanel event over the weekend during Paris Fashion Week. Blake got time off of Gossip Girl and was all over Paris to shill Chanel. This white and silver outfit is Chanel too - I actually like the ensemble, and it looks nice on Blake, but I totally see what many commenters have noted about Blake: she's pretty, but it's in a very plain way. She looks like a cheerleader, or just some random blonde that Lagerfeld pulled out of a mall. Plus, she's losing too much weight. Where I used to think she had one of the best bodies of any of the young fashion girls, she's really beginning to look much too thin for my taste.

Gwyneth Paltrow is close to inking a deal to record a country album

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 05:55 AM PST

wenn3229723

Yesterday, I wrote about Gwyneth Paltrow and whether we should even make fun of her anymore. You guys had a lot to say, and I totally hear you. I've always thought that Gwyneth was a snot, a sanctimonious elitist, and completely worthy of any mockery you wanted to throw her way. I've just been feeling a pang of sympathy for her lately - I honestly think she's in a bad place. Her makeup has been trashy, she's been wearing lots of "look at me, I'm so young and I have a great body" clothes, her face was looking jacked and Botoxy for a while, and this whole mess with her "singing" career… well, I just think Gwyneth is kind of rough lately. But if you want to continue to mock her Goopy ways, by all means. I'll cosign. Especially if you want to laugh at this latest news - it seems Gwyneth is close to signing a deal to record her own album. Her own COUNTRY album. Oh, Goop.

Gwyneth Paltrow, who’s been shopping for a music deal, is in advanced talks with Atlantic Records, Page Six has learned. The Oscar-winning actress is poised to sign a contract with the Warner Music-owned label to produce a country album following her starring role in “Country Strong.”

Paltrow, 38, is married to Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, which is signed to EMI. She recently showed off her singing skills on “Glee,” at the Country Music Awards, the Grammys — where she writhed in a tight, black body suit on a baby grand piano to perform “Forget You” with Cee Lo — and at the Oscars, where she performed the nominated song “Coming Home.”

A source told us, “Gwyneth’s agents have been talking to a number of labels about landing her a substantial record deal. Those who have heard the music say it’s country pop. Many labels would be reluctant to give a deal to a star whose first priority is film, but in recent weeks there have been discussions with Atlantic. Gwyneth is a very different name for Atlantic, and one who brings a lot of recognition.” Its roster includes Sean Paul, B.o.B, T.I., James Blunt, Janelle Monae, Zero 7, Phil Collins and Kid Rock.

Paltrow recently said she was discussing possible contracts with several labels, and said on the Oscars red carpet, “We’re talking about it now. So we’ll see.”

She also reprises her role on “Glee” as substitute teacher Holly Holiday tomorrow, saying she accepted the part because: “I thought, ‘How much fun it would it be to sing and dance and just be ridiculous and silly?’ I’m just having so much fun. My parts were usually quite serious, and I was looking for something fun and different to do.”

While some music critics were not bowled over by her performances, Gwyneth has big aspirations. She’d like to record with Jay-Z, a close friend of her and Martin. She added during red-carpet interviews, “I think we’d be a good combination.”

Paltrow’s rep didn’t get back to us, and Atlantic declined to comment.

[From Page Six]

More songs about double-wides? More songs about drinkin' and brawlin' and twangin'? Jesus. Okay, I get that you don't NEED a good voice to record an album. Katy Perry and Rihanna prove that, over and over. But why this midlife career change for a woman who is basically a more elite version of a Real Housewife? Her voice isn't great, she can't carry a movie by herself anymore, her marriage to certified rock star Chris Martin is… not going very well. Is the answer for Gwyneth to start a new career as some kind of Faith Hill wannabe?

Kate Middleton’s wedding gown: Alexander McQueen?!?

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 05:35 AM PST

waity1

These are some never-before-released photos of Kate Middleton as a child and as a student at St. Andrews. The Middleton family just released them - Kate was a cute kid, and the photos remind me a lot of the photos of Princess Diana's childhood too. Both seemed like super-normal young girls who grew up to be princesses. You can see more photos of Kate here, at the Mail.

Anyway, the big news this morning is that Our Little Waity might have gone all "high fashion" and chosen an avant-garde designer for her wedding gown. For the past two months, the only designer name that has gotten any kind of traction is Bruce Oldfield, who many believe is designing gowns for Waity's bridal party, including her mother and her sister Pippa. I believed that Kate would have chosen someone like Oldfield for her gown too - he's established, he's boring, and he won't rock any boats. BUT - over the weekend, The Telegraph (not a tabloid) reported that Waity might have chosen Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen for her gown. Burton has been head designer for McQueen ever since McQueen committed suicide last year, and Burton has followed in McQueen's established, avant-garde footsteps with the collection. If Kate chose Burton for McQueen, that would be amazing… but I have my doubts. A spokesperson for the House of McQueen tells Us Weekly that "it's not true" but The Telegraph claims it's still on:

It is the most coveted fashion commission of the century: the chance to design the wedding dress worn by Kate Middleton. But the British fashion house Alexander McQueen was desperately denying having won the prized assignment last night as fevered speculation mounted that the dress would be designed by its new creative director, Sarah Burton.

Fashion sources said yesterday that the design of the dress would be a combination of Miss Middleton’s own ideas and Mrs Burton’s quirky interpretation of high fashion.

Work on the royal wedding dress is said to be under way inside Buckingham Palace, but Miss Middleton is determined that details of the design must be kept in the strictest confidence, and her chosen couturier has been sworn to secrecy.

Mrs Burton, who took over as creative director of the fashion label following the suicide of Alexander McQueen last year, strenuously denied having won the commission. But sources said the 36-year-old had been chosen for the discretion afforded by her relatively low profile, as well as for her alternative take on elegance. If confirmed, the selection of one of Britain’s edgiest labels will be seen as a fresh attempt by Miss Middleton to develop her own unique style after drawing criticism in some quarters for her “conservative” dress sense.

The Daily Telegraph reported in December that Miss Middleton’s wedding dress was already being created inside Buckingham Palace by a little known British designer who would be catapulted into the limelight when her identity was revealed. Mrs Burton became McQueen’s right hand woman after joining his label as an intern in 1996.

She presented her first womenswear collection without him at Paris Fashion Week shortly after his suicide in October last year - drawing praise for infusing her mentor’s unique style with a new element of femininity.

Her work is said to have caught Miss Middleton’s eye when she designed an off-the-shoulder wedding dress for Sara Buys, a fashion journalist who married Tom Parker Bowles, the son of the Duchess of Cornwall, in 2005.

Despite being widely hailed as a new British style icon, Miss Middleton was criticised for her conservative dress sense by Dame Vivienne Westwood at London Fashion Week last month. The leading British designer, known for her outrageous creations, said: “I would have loved to have dressed Kate Middleton but I have to wait until she kind of catches up a bit somewhere with style.”

Mrs Burton, who is from Manchester, designed a billowing red and black dress worn by Michelle Obama to a state dinner last year and has also worked on one-off creations for celebrities such as Cate Blanchett, Lady Gaga and Gwyneth Paltrow.

She is now putting the finishing touches to her latest collection, which she will present at Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday. She today denied designing the royal wedding dress.

A spokeswoman for Alexander McQueen said: “Sarah is busy working on her new collection for the Tuesday show and she was as surprised as the rest of us to hear about this. She is not designing the dress.”

Jonathan Akeroyd, chief executive of Alexander McQueen, reportedly let slip to a colleague that Mrs Burton was Miss Middleton’s chosen designer. But he last night denied that the fashion house had any involvement in the royal wedding.

“Not at all,” he said. “I am the CEO. I would know if we were doing it.”

Clarence House refused to confirm or deny reports that Mrs Burton would design the dress. A spokesman said: “We always knew that there would be a lot of speculation about the appointment of the designer. Because Catherine Middleton is keen to keep this private, we are not responding to this in any way at all. This is about the 10th one we’ve been asked about in the last three months and it’s getting a bit ridiculous.”

Bruce Oldfield, the British couture designer who created Samantha Cameron’s wedding dress and was a favourite of Diana, Princess of Wales, was until yesterday considered the favourite to win the coveted commission. Daniella Issa Helayel, the Brazilian couturier who designed Miss Middleton’s engagement dress, has also been tipped as a hot favourite.

But Hilary Alexander, the Telegraph’s Fashion Director, predicted that Mrs Burton could be called upon to design the royal wedding dress in November.

She said: “If this is true it’s the best news the fashion industry has had in a long time. It is desperately in need of an injection of fabulousness in the wake of the whole John Galliano scandal.”

The royal wedding falls four days before a major McQueen retrospective opens in New York on May 4.

[From The Telegraph]

I wish Waity was this exciting and fashion-forward, but I really, really doubt she is. Her default setting is on "never offend anyone, ever." And that's what a McQueen dress would do - it would offend people. Also: I love that Vivienne Westwood doesn't care. I love that she criticized Waity about fashion. Personally, I like some of Waity's clothes, and I have to give her credit for always being dressed occasion-appropriate. BUT - the chick doesn't have a lot of style. At least not what I've seen. Her "dress up" party clothes are usually just silk jersey and cheap-looking, and her "work" clothes are just simple suits. She's boring. And boring doesn't offend people, I guess.

Slumdog Millionaire star loses house after fire in slum where she was still living

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 05:34 AM PST

fp_3067410_barm_slumdog_reu
The family of Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali, 12, have lost all their worldly possessions after a fire destroyed their very meager home in a slum of Mumbai. Over 2,000 people were left homeless by the fire and at least 12 were injured. Rubina issued a statement that she’s lost everything, and told CNN that “my awards are gone, my memories are gone.” This begs the question as to why this girl was still living in a slum two years after Slumdog won the Oscar and over a year and a half after her co-star, Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, was moved to a one bedroom apartment with his brother and parents through a trust set up by producers.

According to an administrator of the trust, they were just a month away from putting Rubina and her family in an apartment, but the water and electricity needed to be installed first. Let’s get this straight - Rubina’s costar Azhar was given an apartment in June, 2009, and it took until March, 2011 and a fire in the slum for the trust to get around to securing an apartment for Rubina’s family. This same thing scenario when Azhar got his apartment too: there was a lot of press surrounding the fact that the Indian government had destroyed Rubina and Azhar’s homes, and then the trust announced with much fanfare that Azhar’s family was getting an apartment. It looks like they “forgot” about Rubina until right after her home was destroyed again.

Slumdog Millionaire” child star Rubina Ali says her home was gutted by a fire that tore through her Mumbai slum.

“There was fire everywhere, there was so much chaos, my house was completely burned down, the whole slum was burned down,” Rubina told CNN on Sunday.

The 12-year old said she was watching TV Friday when her neighbors started yelling “fire, fire!”

She then grabbed everything she could get her hands on and ran out. “But my awards are gone, my memories are gone,” she said.

Ali was referring to the numerous awards she received for her role as the young Latika in the critically acclaimed film that nabbed multiple Academy Awards..

Rubina said the her family is now living in a temporary shelter. Rubina’s father Rafiq Qureshi said they plan to move into a new home provided by a trust set up by the film’s director Danny Boyle next month.

“They were in transit. They were just about to move to an apartment the Jai Ho Trust has allotted for them,” said trustee Nirja Mattoo said. “But as the building is new, they were waiting for the water and electricity to be installed. But unfortunately this incident happened.”

Mattoo confirmed Rubina and the family were still residing in the Garib Nagar slum when the fire broke out.

“Our social worker has been meeting Rubina and her family and assessing the situation,” Mattoo said. “They lost everything except for an LCD TV and some clothes.”

Rubina said she is grateful for the support she and her family have been receiving from the trust.

[From CNN via Popeater]

I get that this issue is complicated, and that there are many more people involved than just these children. Producers may have a legitimate fear that by lifting one family out of poverty they’ll be exploited by friends and other family desperate to leave the slums. In Rubina’s case her father and uncles were caught in a sting operation by News of The World offering to sell her. Still, this little girl has suffered so much. She was even hospitalized for a viral infection in May, 2009 and still had to return to the slum where she still lived afterwards. News reports at the time showed her living in a tin shack.

There’s a trust set up for the children by producers for an unknown amount that they will allegedly have access to if they finish high school. (The trust fund administrators have complained that the children have been skipping school to attend events however.) In the mean time their families receive $130 a month along with $3000 a year. Slumdog Millionaire grossed about $378 million worldwide.

It’s worth noting that there were more than just two child actors in that film but all the reports I’ve read focus on Azhar and Rubina. I hope that producers are making sure that the other child actors have a meager stipend and a trust fund to look forward to, but given the way they’ve treated Rubina so far that’s doubtful.
