‘Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark’ Suffers Another Mid-Show Injury

Last Friday it was announced that the embattled Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark was pushing back (again) its official opening date to February 7, 2011 so that they could hammer out their on-going technical difficulties and today we learn more troubling news about the show. During tonight’s performance of the show, an actor fell 20 feet to the ground after the cable he was attached to either broke or became detached. The show had to be ended early so that emergency medical technicians could be brought in to treat the injured actor.

Twitter is being flooded with messages from audience members tonight at SPIDER-MAN, with word that an actor fell during the middle of Act 2 when a cable snapped. The show was first put on hold, and then cancelled as ambulances arrived on the scene … BroadwayWorld spoke to an audience member who was there and told us that it right was near the end of the show when the bridge comes down and MJ falls and Spider-Man goes after her. Basically, she went down and he went jumping after her, and you saw the rope come done and then snap back up and then all of a sudden, the stage manager’s voice came on and said that there was going to be a pause and they stayed dark for a minute or two and then they basically called the show. Our source tells us that for most of the audience, there was a moment of “did I really just see that” followed by horror and concern. Coming from where the actor fell, a voice was heard screaming as well. As audience members left the theatre, at least one ambulance and fire truck were seen. Another audience member has contacted us to tell us that “The person taken away was the person playing Spider-Man at the time. He tried to get up and stagehands told him not to move. I was in the audience and I’m an NY EMT. Although i am not involved with the care of the patient they didn’t use a back-board and collar so they don’t suspect spinal injury. The ambulance stayed on site longer then expected leading to believe the injury isn’t critical.” The FDNY confirms they were called at about 10:45 p.m. to treat a man who fell twenty feet. It was unclear which actor was involved in the accident, but we’re told that it was a 31 year old man, who has now been taken to Bellevue Hospital. This is the fourth injury in the show.

This show cannot last much longer … I mean, there’s no way. With a whopping $65 million dollar price tag, Spider-Man has to sell enough tickets to sell out every single performance for the next 4 years just to break even. If you consider how many injuries keep occurring in this show — which is still in previews, btw — you have to wonder how long producers will continue to let the show continue to flail. I’m convinced the injuries will continue to happen … in front of hundreds of audience members. The technical aspects of the show seem just too … shall we say, ambitious … for things to run smoothly for very long. I can’t imagine the sight of an actor falling 20 feet to the ground, followed by horrid screams from audience members will do much to sell tickets for the show … then again, there are a lot of folks that like the macabre. I still deffo want to see this show (and no, not because I want to see people be injured) but it really seems less and less likely that it will run long enough for me to do so. How many more injuries can the show take before they decide to pull the plug?

Michael C. Hall Answers Twitter-Submitted Fan Questions

The currently divorcing Michael C. Hall paid a visit to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and he hung around for a bit after the show so that he could answer a few questions for a Late Night: Back Stage interview. The questions that MCH tackled were submitted to the official Twitter profile for Late Night and they covered topics about Dexter but also about MCH‘s life outside of the show.


I love the rapper question … not that I could ever see MCH as a rapper but his instant reaction to name himself The Force, should he ever take up the craft of rap, sounds pretty swell to me. I also loved the question about the fave Dexter guest star … I think EVERYONE’s favorite guest star on the show is John Lithgow (who fabulously played the Trinity Killer last season). And, I too would be very intrigued by the idea of a Dexter Broadway musical … Hell, it would surely turn out better than the very troubled Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, don’tcha think? Honestly, there is nothing that MCH couldn’t handle … and handle well … even if he ever does decide to take up rapping. It’s interviews like this that just show how lovable and cool the guy can be, despite the cold demeanor he portrays when he is Dexter Morgan. I love this interview, I really love Michael C. Hall.

David Beckham Gets Tattooed Again!

David Beckham, the BBC Sports Personality Lifetime Achievement Award recipient for 2010, recently updated his official Facebook profile with a new photo and a short message about his newest piece of body art. Becks, an avid tattoo fan, got himself a new tattoo inked on his chest and according to the man himself, it took 6 hours to get ‘er done!

There will be little uncovered skin left on his body at the rate he is going. But David Beckham has indulged in his tattoo obsession once again by getting a secret tattoo on his chest. The 35-year-old football legend took to Facebook to tell fans about his new artwork and posted a picture of himself under the needle … The LA Galaxy star posted: 'I want to let you all in on something. Just had a new tattoo done by the legendary Mark Mahoney. Took six hours!' Beckham claimed that he was keeping tattoos confined to his arms and back because his mum doesn't like them. Speaking to NBC's Today's Show in October he said: ‘I'm a big fan of tattoos – each one has a meaning. Maybe I'll have more but my mum will kill me. He added: 'I have restricted them to my arms and back.’ But just two months later the dad of three was back under the needle having a tattoo placed on his left pectoral muscle. Mark Mahoney is a Hollywood tattoo artist no stranger to celebrity clients and has inked a whole host of stars including Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Britney Spears. It is not known what the exact design of the tattoo is but the dad of three's other tattoos have meaning and are usually dedicated to his family.

It seems logical that this new tattoo, very likely another tribute to his family, has something to do with the Lifetime Achievement award he picked up in Birmingham, England last night. Becks does like to memorialize major life milestones in the body art get gets inked onto his body so that’d be my guess. I suppose we’re gonna hafta wait until Becks is shirtlessly running around on the soccer field or mebbe in an ad campaign to find out what exactly he got inked on his chest. Fortunately for us, Becks doesn’t tend to go long periods in between bouts of public shirtlessness. I can’t wait to see what his new tattoo looks like, can you?

Paris Hilton Adopts A New Dog

Paris Hilton, who spent part of her weekend in Madrid, Spain for the launch of her very own MotoGP motorcycle racing team (seriously), made her way back to Las Vegas, NV last Friday to serve some of the 200 hours of Community Service she must complete as part of the sentence for her September conviction on cocaine possession charges. Paris served some of her hours at The Animal Foundation … and ended up adopting a new pet pooch in the process.

Pop culture icon Paris Hilton took on an altogether different role this week: She got down — and dirty — caring for abandoned and lost animals at our Animal Foundation shelter. She's the newest celebrity face at the campus! Paris was hands on and asked for no special treatment or favors. She was on her knees cleaning up behind the dogs and carrying out their pooper-scooper droppings. The multi-millionaire hotel heiress, actress, singer and entrepreneur cleaned out kennels in addition to feeding the animals, providing clean water for them and distributed blankets to keep the animals warm. Instead of a Chanel gown or Louboutin stilettos, it was sneakers and sweats for the blond beauty. She volunteered at similar charities in L.A. last month and for the Hollywood Beautification Team. Ahead of traveling here, she asked The Animal Foundation if she could become a volunteer. "We were thrilled. We are so excited that Paris decided to perform some of her 200 hours of community service with our shelter," said Andy Bischel, director of development at The Animal Foundation. "She loves animals, and after she toured our facility and learned about some of the shocking animal statistics, she was inspired and motivated to help make a difference. She had tears in her eyes" … Paris tweeted: "This Christmas, if you're thinking of getting a dog or cat, get one at your local animal shelter. Save a life. Don't shop. Adopt." And that's exactly what she did. While volunteering, Paris met and fell in love with Skeet, a 3-year-old male Chihuahua. After spending time playing with Skeet in one of the socialization parks, she decided that she wanted to take him home and picked up her new pup after his neuter surgery, renaming him Sid Vicious. "Paris is an incredibly influential and popular individual. We're confident that by adopting a neutered dog from our facility shelter, she'll fuel a movement not only to choose the adoption option when looking for a new pet, but also to spay or neuter pets," Andy said. "With such stars as Paris and Holly Madison backing our mission and supporting our programs, we have an amazing opportunity to save unwanted animals and reduce their numbers."

I gotta admit … Paris might actually do a bit of good this time around. If Paris inspires just one person to adopt a pet rather than buy one, she will deffo be making a positive impact on the community. As you may recall, we saw photos last month of Paris painting over graffiti here in SoCal as part of her Community Service hours … but this seems more significant. To be honest, I lost count long ago of all the pets that Paris Hilton owns … but, thankfully, she is wealthy enough to ensure that they are all taken care of and treated very, very well. I’m not usually a big fan of many of the things that Paris does but this … I like. What do y’all think … do you approve of the way she is handling her Community Service thus far?

Hugh Jackman Takes Up Gardening

Yesterday we saw photos of Hugh Jackman running out to pick up a couple cases of bottled beer for a BBQ that he was having back home down under in Australia. Today we get to see new photos of Hugh running an errand of a different sort the following day. Apparently, Hugh Jackman as taken up … gardening.


Now, it’s not clear if Hugh will be doing the actual gardening with these new plants he picked up but I wouldn’t be surprised if Hugh Jackman had got himself a green thumb or two at the end of his massively beefy arms :) As you can see in the second photo, Hugh is still showing signs of injury around his eye from the accident he suffered on The Oprah Winfrey Show last week. I couldn’t tell yesterday if Hugh was just squinting in the bright sun or if his eye was still injured … I guess we know now that it’s still injured. Here’s hopin’ he heals up soon … and enjoys his gardening.

Lindsay Lohan Throws A Party At The Betty Ford Center

And Lindsay Lohan has been doing so well in the last couple of months. According to TMZ, Lindsay (who recently moved to a new Sober Living residence at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, CA) thought it would be a great idea to throw a party for some fellow friends in rehab … and wouldn’t you know it, there was drinking involved! The folks at Betty Ford found out and everyone got busted … included our dear Lindsay.

Lindsay Lohan’s roommates had a party a week ago last Saturday night, and TMZ has learned the booze was flowing and the girls got in a heap of trouble. We’re told Lindsay and her roomies were staying at a satellite house at the Betty Ford Clinic. The roommates were “drinking heavily” and somehow the Betty Ford people found out and busted them. The roommates were moved back to the main facility at Betty Ford, which has more supervision. As for Lindsay, we’re told there was no evidence she had been drinking, but we’re told after the incident Betty Ford officials decided Lindsay could not leave the area for Christmas. We’re also told Lindsay has gone back to the main Betty Ford facility, not for punishment but for “intensive therapy.”

TMZ also reports that Lindsay was spotted at a bar on the night of this party but they could not confirm and reiterate that there is no proof that Lindsay was drinking at all. Still, throwing a party like this flies in the face of what rehab is all about so it’s no surprise the Betty Ford folks are p-oed. I understand that Dina Lohan is bringing Xmas to Lindsay and that the entire family is flying to SoCal to spend the holiday with her in rehab. I’m sure it’s very common for folks in rehab to slip up like this but I can’t for the life of me understand how anyone thought that having a party with alcohol was something they could get away with.

Pink Is The New Layout

So … the new layout. No one knows better than I do how much of a change this new layout on Pink is the new Blog is but I really like it and I hope all y’all do, too. A couple of years ago, I changed formats from an archaic one-post-per-day format to the more standard individual/numerous blogposts per day. Now I’m venturing forth in this new format that I’m hoping will offer more interactive content on a daily basis …


Many people bristled when I made the big change from the one-post-per-day format to the standard of multiple posts a day … and no one freaked out more than I did. I am not really good with change … but I really hate stagnation more. This new layout allows me to feature my fave stories of the day along the top, all stories about my fave celebs along the side and more interactivity with all y’all on the individual posts that run down the middle as usual. Folks can sign in and upload avatars for their comments and can directly comment to others in the discussion sections of each post. I’m really trying to make the site more fun for everyone, infusing new features and points of interest as best I can. Naturally there will be some problems and there will always be folks who just hate everything. Change isn’t always easy but it can be fun and exciting (and nerve-wrecking). Nothing is ever final or set in stone, there will undoubtedly be tweaking and some experimentation. As always I welcome your comments and suggestions …

David Beckham Reduces Victoria Beckham To Tears

Yesterday we learned that LA Galaxy soccer player and international sports superstar David Beckham was honored by BBC Sports in Birmingham, England with the Personality Lifetime Achievement Award presented to him last night. Today we get to see a few photos and video from the awards show of Becks collecting his award … and of Victoria Beckham uncharacteristically showing LOTS of emotion on camera.

Victoria Beckham was reduced to tears last night as her husband David was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year. The former Spice Girl struggled to contain herself as she sat with the couple’s three sons Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, eight and four-year-old Cruz and Beckham’s mother Sandra. A clearly emotional Beckham also found it difficult not to cry as he thanked Victoria and their sons for their support over the years. He said: ‘Of course, I want to thank my wife and my children. Not only has she given me three amazing boys but the support she’s given me and she is truly and inspiration for me every single day. So Victoria, Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz – thank you.’ In the audience, a teary Victoria wiped her eyes as she watched her husband accept the prize along with her sons. While Lineker gave Beckham, 35, a couple of seconds to recover, Sir Bobby said: ‘I would just like to say congratulations to David. He is a very very pleasant person and a good man and he deserves everything that has been said of him tonight. He’s also never afraid to say his opinions on everything so I think I should pass it across to him now.’ Beckham then continued: ‘I’m obviously really humbled because to receive an award for something I love doing and have always loved doing is amazing. To receive it from Sir Bobby Charlton, I am truly honoured.

Aww … isn’t this so precious? So either Vicki B. sprung a leak in her robotic eye sockets or she just proved to the world that she is human after all. You will remember that she looked her usual glum self in the red carpet photo we saw of her yesterday … this sight of her showing emotion and actually crying is just … so sweet. Love it!! As I said yesterday, the true measure of David Beckham‘s lifetime achievement can be seen in his beautiful family … and in the love they have for one another. Back in May 2008 we learned the sad news that Shania Twain and hubby Mutt Lange decided to end their marriage (because of his infidelity). In June of 2009, Shania broke her silence about her split from Mutt in a personal letter she wrote to fans. In June of this year, her divorce from Lange was final … and today, we are hearing that Shania has gotten herself engaged to be married to her new man Frédéric Thiébaud.

She suffered a broken heart after her husband of 14 years, legendary producer Mutt Lange, left her for her best friend in 2008. But country singer Shania Twain, 45, is now said to be ‘happier than she’s ever been’ – after getting engaged to the man whose wife stole her husband. Frederic Thiebaud, 40, was married to Shania’s best friend and house manager Marie-Anne Thiebaud, who is now living with Lange. Marie-Anne was an employee of Shania’s and looked after her 46-room château in Switzerland. They soon became a close confidante and travel companionds as Shania knew virtually no one else in Switzerland. But when the country singer’s marriage imploded two years ago with rumours of an affair between her husband and Marie-Anne, Shania turned to Thiebaud for comfort . He was also suffering from the devastating split from his wife … By the summer of 2009, their friendship had turned into love. Wow … that is A LOT of stuff goin’ on with Shania Twain. The whole real life wife swap thing is just so … weird. Still, I’m happy to know that Shania has found love again with Frédéric … but, if the couples remarry in this way poor Eja will learn one day that his step-parents were previously married and that his step-mother is the cause of his parent’s divorce. Ugh. While I would REALLY like Shania to get back to the biz of making music again, I’m glad to know that she seems to have gotten her life back on track again personally and professionally. Let’s send our heartiest congrats to Shania and Frédéric on their reported engagement!

Jude Law Enjoys A Snow Day With The Kiddies

You might’ve heard that Europe is getting POUNDED by cold weather and mounds of snow, causing headaches for travelers all around the world. But some Brits are making the most of the winter weather by turning lemons into AWESOMELY FUN SNOW DAYS! Jude Law and his eldest children, Rudy Indiana and Iris, for a fun sledding trip with friends (and a cute pooch) earlier today … and it looks like they had a blast!


Despite the fact that Jude and his ladylove Sienna Miller just moved into a new love nest in London, she was not in attendance at this morning’s winter outing (nor was Jude‘s youngest son Rafferty, by the way). Jude and the kids did a bit of sledding on Primrose Hill today but they kept things pretty tame … unlike their sledding adventure on Parliament Hill last January. While I really dislike the snow, I do like sledding … and hittin’ the slopes with a hot dad like Jude sounds like the kind of fun that could turn me into a snow lover ;)

Chris Evans Is The New Face Of Gucci Cologne

Chris Evans, the new Captain America, has just been unveiled as the new spokesmodel for the luxury cologne Gucci: Guilty Pour Homme, which is set for release in 2011. Back in June of this year, actress Evan Rachel Wood was unveiled as the female face of Gucci: Guilty … but now it’s time for Chris Evans to step into the smelly spotlight.


We didn’t know it at the time but Chris is the man that is featured in the ERW promo photo that we saw last Summer (and she is the woman featured in this new promo). So now we know that ERW and Chris Evans are the Guicci: Guilty twins … not unlike Jennifer Lopez‘s twin children Maximilian David and Emme Marbiel who are Gucci models themselves. Chris also joins the likes of actors like James Franco (who we know is the spokesmodel for Gucci by Guicci Sport cologne) as the swarthy men who have been charged with the task of selling Guicci fragrances I’m a big Chris Evans fan … so I approve. What do y’all think … does the sight of this man make you want to buy cologne?

And The Winner Of ‘Survivor: Nicaragua’ Is . . .

And so … another season of Survivor has come to an end and another ultimate Survivor has been chosen. In case you have yet to watch last night’s ep and you wish to remain unspoiled, you might want to stay away from the Internets until you do so. For the rest of us, let’s get down to discussin’ who was voted the winner of Survivor: Nicaragua lat night …

Going into the finale episode that aired last night, the final 5 contestants left were Dan Lembo, Holly Hoffman, Sash aka Matthew Lenahan, Chase Rice and Fabio aka Judson Birza … then Dan got voted off … then Holly … and then there were 3:


The only reason Fabio managed to make it to the final 3 was because he managed to win the last three immunity challenges of the game … fortunately for him, the games focused on puzzles and the final endurance challenge was not a physical one. The final 3 players — Chace, Fabio and Sash — plead their cases to the jury and a winner was selected … by a very close vote.

In the end … Fabio managed to win the whole shebang … and $1 million dollars:

Time and again during “Survivor: Nicaragua,” fans of the show complained loudly that this latest batch of contestants was by far the dumbest group to ever play the game. And during the finale, the proof of that was in the win. Pretty boy Jud Birza, better known to fans as Fabio, beat Chase Rice by one vote to take the title of Sole Survivor and the million-dollar prize. He also became the youngest player at age 21 to win the game. It was interesting that it came down to these two guys — Sash Lenahan didn’t get any love from the jury — because it almost seemed like a contest between dumb and dumber. (Jury member Marty Piombo even suggested a Dumber Than a Bag of Hammers Award, most likely for Chase, whom he couldn’t stand.) The show and the contestants regularly reminded viewers how stupid Chase was in his strategy. He repeatedly befriended and earned the trust of other contestants, only to backstab and vote them out each and every time. All that flip-flopping, backstabbing and playing based on his emotions rather than his head should have made it next to impossible for him to earn any votes, yet he received four. Did he play the game that much better than strategist Sash? Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps the fact that he received four votes to Sash’s zero had something to do with the final Tribal Council. When asked what he would do if he won the million dollars, Chase replied that $100,000 would be going to charity, and that he’d be taking care of his mom. It’s hard not to want to reward good intentions. As for Fabio, he kicked off the season playing the role of “the dumb blond,” as Shannon Elkins, who was voted off the second week, said. It was hard to argue that, as week after week, the student and model did things that many would qualify as dumb, from peeing in a pool everyone had to swim in to running around barefoot in a rain forest and getting stabbed in the foot by a branch. Were it not for his three consecutive immunity-challenge wins at the end of the game, he would’ve never had a shot. Lucky for him, he did win, and it didn’t hurt that — as he reminded the jury — he played a friendly game and never had to hurt anyone’s feelings to get where he was.

Not only did Fabio do himself a lot of favors by winning the final immunity challenges but his answers during the jury questioning really helped his case … he only beat Chase by 1 vote to win the million bucks. I didn’t LOVE this season of Survivor but it was entertaining. In the end, I really didn’t care who won, to be honest. I’m glad that Fabio was able to sneak in there and win the whole thing but I would’ve been just as happy if Chase had managed to win instead.

What I was really surprised by was the fact that Fabio was VERY OBVIOUSLY on something during the live reunion special. His glassy eyes were a tip-off that he was high on … something. Then, when he tried to give answers to questions … I was sure the guy was either baked or trippin’. It was clear that Survivor producers also believed him to be out of it because after Jeff Probst asked him a few questions in the beginning (and after he gave nonsense answers), they NEVER let Fabio speak again for the rest of the reunion special. Never in Survivor history have they ignored and NOT let the winner talk on the reunion special. Now that he’s got a million bucks, I can only imagine what Fabio plans to spend all that GREEN on.

Oh and Jane Hammett-Bright won the fan favorite award of $100,000 … which was well-deserved, I think. But, yeah, as I said … this season of Survivor was fun to watch but … it wasn’t really all that exciting. Did you watch? Are you happy with this season’s winner?
