David Beckham Is Honored By The BBC With A Sports Lifetime Achievement Award

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 02:13 PM PST

The entire Beckham family is in England today to attend a BBC Sports awards show that will honor soccer superstar David Beckham with the BBC Sports Personality Lifetime Achievement Award. Here is a photo of the Beckham family (note the elation on wife Victoria Beckham‘s face) as they walked the blue red carpet on their way into the ceremony and some deets about Becks‘s latest achievement:

Former England captain David Beckham is to receive the BBC Sports Personality Lifetime Achievement award on Sunday. The 35-year-old midfielder is England’s most capped outfield player and won six Premier League titles and the Champions League crown with Manchester United. He won the Spanish league with Real Madrid after a 25 million pounds move from United before joining Los Angeles Galaxy and also spent two loan spells at AC Milan. In 2001 Beckham was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year. The lifetime honour is one of several awards which will be presented during the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show from 1900 GMT on Sunday. “David’s record on and off the pitch has been remarkable,” BBC Sports Personality of the Year editor Carl Doran said, according to the BBC’s website. “It’s a fitting reward for an outstanding career as a player and for his tireless work as an ambassador for British sport. He has also been a tremendous role model and I’m sure he’ll get an amazing reaction from the public in Birmingham.” Nine years ago Beckham won the main award, voted for by the public, after an outstanding display for England against Greece in which his late free-kick earned the national side a place in the 2002 World Cup finals. His England career began in September 1996 against Moldova with his latest, and 115th, cap coming against Belarus in October 2009. He also captained England 59 times in that period … One of his most memorable years was in 1999, when he helped United win the Treble. His corners led to the two late strikes which allowed the Red Devils to fight back from a goal down to beat Bayern Munich 2-1 in a dramatic Champions League final at Barcelona’s Nou Camp. It was also the year that the midfielder married former Spice Girl Victoria Adams, and the couple have three sons … A move to Major League Soccer in the United States with LA Galaxy followed [in 2007] and also two loan periods at Italian giants AC Milan. Beckham lives in Los Angeles with his family but regularly returns to Britain and was a key member of the England 2018 World Cup bid, which lost out to Russia in the vote earlier in December.

There is no question that David Beckham is one of the most famous soccer players of all time … certainly, in English History. I’m sure it means a great deal to him to be honored with such an prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by his home country (and still … not even this monumental event could get him to cut his hair … tsk tsk). Still, no matter how many trophies and awards he gets, the true measure of his Lifetime Achievement is featured in the photo above. Becks‘s family is his greatest achievement … so he’s already a winner many times over. Let’s send out heartiest congratulations to our dear David Beckham on this award! It is much deserved, yeah?

Hugh Jackman Goes On A Beer Run

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 01:59 PM PST

When last we saw Hugh Jackman, he was flying around trying to impress Oprah Winfrey and he almost lost an eye in the process. Today we get to see new photos of the chap lookin’ much better, with two arms full of bottled beer for a good ol’ fashioned Aussie BBQ. Someone else must’ve been in charge of gettin’ the shrimp for the barbie cuz Hugh was in charge of the suds:

I can’t tell if Hugh is just squinting in the sunlight or if his eye is still givin’ him a bit of trouble but … I guess he looks alright. I can’t even tell you how jealous I am that it looks so gloriously warm in Australia this time of the year. While they are enjoying Summer BBQs, many of us are freezing our buns off as Winter just gets started. I hope Hugh throws back a couple beers for us cold and suffering Yankees back here in the States … wouldn’t that be so nice?

Food For Thought

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 01:46 PM PST

Altho my day started out shakily, I slowly but surely started to feel back to my normal self as the day wore on yesterday. I’m telling you, the rain that has been falling continuously for the past few days (and continues to fall today) hasn’t really helped me get over my illness but I am happy to report that — at last — I’m feeling better. For the past 2 weeks, I’ve been obsessed with The Lobsta Truck that pops up around LA because I’ve been craving one of their Lobsta Rolls ever since I saw them featured on the local news. Basically, they take mounds of fresh lobster and they pile it on a crispy toasted bun and drown the whole thing in butter. Even tho I wasn’t totally totally well yesterday morning, The Lobsta Truck came relatively close to my home and David — my hero — went out in the rain to get me a couple of Lobsta Rolls:

Ye gods … they were delicious! If you can believe it, there was a HUGE line of people standing in the rain, waiting for their chance to buy some grub … people, it’s that good. If you happen to see the Lobsta Truck in your neighborhood here in SoCal, you gotta try some of their eats. Click HERE to see their menu and click HERE to follow them on Twitter to find out where they are at any given time.

We spent the rest of the day inside … out of the rain. I watched a couple of movies and then stumbled upon Julie & Julia. As you may recall, I saw and LOVED the film when it was released last year … but this time, I was only interested in the parts of the movie that focused on Julia Child‘s life in France. I dunno, something about her story really spoke to me last night so I bought Julia Child‘s autobiography/memoir My Life in France on my Kindle and started reading it immediately:

Man, what a fantastic book. I’ve always been strangely fascinated with Julia Child and reading her words about her time in France is just … magical. I do not possess any familiarity of Paris, France to speak of but I have visited a few times … and even with my limited experience, I could absolutely envision many of the scenes that Julia describes in her book. I’m not a big reader of memoirs but I can already tell, My Life in France could quite possibly be one of my fave non-fiction books of all time. To be honest, I can’t wait to get back to reading the book … so I can magically transport myself to Paris in the 1950′s.

Oh and the more I hear about it, the more I am dying to taste Julia Child‘s recipe for bœuf bourguignon. If someone would like to make that for me, I’d be much obliged ;)

As I mentioned, it’s raining cats and dogs here in LA … and will continue to do so at least until Wednesday. I don’t love it but it’s a nice change of pace and IT AIN’T SNOW so … I’m happy. David and I are heading to Rob and Tam’s for a Holiday Potluck Dinner tonight. It’ll be nice to see people again … I’ve been holed up at home since I got back from Detroit. I’m anxious for conversation. Happy Sunday, y’all! Stay Warm/Dry/Healthy !!!

Prince Harry Receives The Golden Heart Award In Germany

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 12:22 PM PST

Prince Harry of Wales made his way to Berlin, Germany this weekend to be honored with the Golden Heart Award for all of the charitable work he has done in his young life. Harry was presented with his award during the country’s largest televised event, a show called A Heart for Children. Here are a few photos of Harry being honored by German First Lady Bettina Wulff last night:

Britain’s Prince Harry has been honoured at a live German television gala for his charity and humanitarian work. The German president’s wife, Bettina Wulff, presented Harry the Golden Heart statuette on Saturday at the country’s largest TV charity gala, A Heart for Children. The 26-year-old is patron of several children’s and humanitarian aid charities. He also co-founded an organisation – Sentebale – to help young people in the African country of Lesotho. Harry felt ‘hugely humble’ to win the award and said it would encourage Sentebale and others in Lesotho ‘to redouble our efforts.’ He told guests and the televised audience of millions ‘from the bottom of my heart Vielen Dank (thank you very much). ‘But compared to so many people who devote their whole lives to restoring hope to children around the world, I have done very little’ … The prince arrived in a snowy Berlin which has been hit by the freezing conditions that have crippled transport in Europe. Among the guests were singers Kylie Minogue and Paul Anka. A Heart for Children was started in 1978 by Axel Springer, the founder of the national German newspaper Bild.

While Harry was off being honored for his humanitarianness in Germany, his older brother Prince William of Wales and sister-in-law-to-be Kate Middleton stepped out in England together to attend a charity event in their first official outing since announcing their engagement last month. After the jump, check out a photo of the royal couple and some deets from their event …

Prince William was joined by fiancee Kate Middleton at a charity concert at the couple’s first public engagement since plans for their wedding were announced last month. Miss Middleton walked by the prince’s side as the couple arrived for the Christmas variety show, staged to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust. William joked with onlookers, telling one group of teenagers dressed as elves: “Cool hats”. Miss Middleton waved and smiled at well-wishers but said nothing. Prince William was guest of honour at the fund-raising gala in Thursford in Norfolk, which showcased a cast of professional singers, dancers and musicians. The Thursford Christmas Spectacular was a private event but during the interval the prince was to meet a group of young cancer patients from Norfolk and Hertfordshire as well as charity staff. Proceeds from the evening will go towards the construction of the first specialist cancer unit for young people at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, which will cost 2.5 million.

OY! What a whirlwind their lives must be these days. I mean, it’s prolly never an easy thing to be Royalty but with all the new attention placed on the couple in the wake of their engagement … I just bet there is a LOT going on all the time now. The next few months are going to fly by, tho, you just wait and see. These two will be married in no time at all.

Nicole Richie & Joel Madden Share Their Wedding Photos With ‘Who’ Magazine

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 11:28 AM PST

First we saw the wedding photos in the pages of People magazine here in the US, then we saw them in In magazine in Germany and today we learn that the wedding photos of Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have also been published in the pages of the Australian magazine Who … behold:

My guess is that while all of these magazines got many of the same photos, each mag got at least one unique photo each. It also appears that the photo release was staggered among the publications. Let’s also not forget that the money made from the sale of these photos to the different international publications is all going to charity so … this one set of photos most likely fetched a very pretty penny for Nicole and Joel‘s charity of choice. Since these photos have been making the rounds for the last week already, I think we’ve all pretty much seen them all. BUT, after the jump, check out a couple photos from Nicole and Joel‘s wedding that I hadn’t seen until they showed up in Who magazine …

I realize in the lifespan of the Internets, this wedding and these photos are already practically ancient history … but I still can’t get over the fact that these two finally tied the knot and will live happily ever after. Best. Couple. Ever.

Robert Downey, Jr. Does British ‘GQ’ Magazine

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 10:10 AM PST

Robert Downey, Jr. is featured on the cover of the December issue of British GQ Magazine … which is kinda old news since the magazine came out in November and the January issue (with Rihanna on the cover) has already been released. Still, I somehow missed seeing these photos when they came out and since one can never have too much RDJ in their lives, I figured the photos were worth sharing:

The article, tho, is actually pretty stale … RDJ was promoting his new film Due Date (which I don’t think is even in theaters anymore) and I don’t think anyone wants to hear about that. Instead, let’s focus on the cool photoshoot that Rob posed for in the pages of this issue of GQ. Check ‘em out, after the jump …

There is something innately cool about a man and his car … when the car is a classic, well, the photos are even cooler. Here is a short video that was filmed on the set of RDJ‘s British GQ magazine photoshoot:

This man is seriously one of my favorite actors. Sure, not every project he does is a stunning success but he deffo gives his all no matter what movie he’s working on. I am really looking forward to Sherlock Holmes 2 and, of course, his work in The Avengers. Even tho stinkers like Due Date come along every once-in-a-while, at least we can look on the bright side … the promotion of that film led to the release of these fun photos. One can never have too much RDJ in their lives ;)

Ryan Reynolds & Scarlett Johansson Reunite In NYC

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 09:24 AM PST

Last Tuesday we learned the sad news that married couple Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson decided to end their marriage and a couple of days later, Scarlett showed up in Jamaica with her BFFs in an effort to get away from all the media attention. This weekend, she made her way back to NYC and was reportedly spotted in the close company of her estranged husband Ryan Reynolds. According to People magazine, the couple enjoyed a “friendly meal” together in an effort to remain cordial with one another as they move forward with their divorce … because, apparently, the couple are not reconciling:

When they announced their split, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds said they wanted to continue to show love and kindness toward each other. That was certainly how they appeared Friday night as they got together for what a source tells PEOPLE was a “friendly meal” at Blue Ribbon restaurant in New York. “They were smiling and laughing the whole time,” the source says. Johansson, 26, had just returned from a trip to Jamaica with girlfriends and Reynolds, 34, was in town for a photo shoot during a break from filming in Atlanta. “They just wanted to connect and have a friendly chat,” the source says. “They just wanted to sit down together. The tone was light and fun despite the untruths that the media is working up.
They aren’t reconciling. This was just two people who were married being civil and friendly.”

It really sounds like ScRyan are acting about as adult as they can thru their split … it sounds like they are still very friendly toward one another despite the fact that they no longer want to be married to one another. As nice as all of this sounds, it just seems to reinforce the notion to me that the couple prolly never should’ve gotten married in the first place. The couple only dated for a short while before it was suddenly announced that they were secretly wed. If the couple had just continued dating or had themselves a long engagement, they would’ve spared themselves the need to be divorced at such a young age. But, again, it’s nice to know that the couple are still very cordial and friendly when divorcing couples are usually scornful and bitter. I guess if you’re gonna get divorced, this is the way to do it.

Kevin Federline & Fam Go Xmas Tree Shopping

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 08:52 AM PST

Kevin Federline rounded up his children with ex-wife Britney Spears — sons Sean Preston and Jayden James — and his ladyfriend Victoria Prince for a family outing in Chatsworth, CA last week so that the family could pick out an Xmas tree. Here are a few photos from the fun family outing:

These are really cute photos, y’all. I am just amazed at how big both Sean P. and JJ keep growing! And, in all honesty, I must give some credit to their father K-Fed. For the most part, my beef with the man has been over the way he has continued to leech off of his famous and very wealthy ex-wife but for the better part of the last year, he has remained off the radar and seems to have finally settled into a quiet life of fatherhood. Even his relationship with Victoria Prince seems to be stable and happy and, well, I can’t really think of a bad thing to say about either of them. While I have never been an K-Fed fan, there have been glimmers of hope that the guy might turn out to be a decent person … for some time now, it appears that the guy has finally grown his ass up. While it’s unfortunate that the children have to be shuttled back and forth between their parents, I understand the relationship that Britney and Kevin share is one that is friendly enough so that their children never get caught in the middle of any drama. I’m not saying I’m a bona fide Kevin Federline fan but I can now appreciate that he seems to have matured enough to not warrant any personal attacks. I just hope he continues to be the best father he can be to his sons … if that is his main goal, then he’s deffo got a fan in me.
