Duchess Kate goes green & shamrocky for St. Patrick’s Day: gorgeous or meh? Posted: 18 Mar 2012 08:43 AM PDT God, I love when Duchess Kate wears jewel tones. They suit her coloring so, so much. I would love to see her in rich reds, blues and greens all of the time. These are photos of Kate at an event yesterday for the Irish Guards (the dudes in red, with the bearskin hats). It's an annual thing – every St. Patrick's Day, a royal "presents" shamrocks to members of the Irish Guards. Or something… they get medals, and they get a pint of beer. Kate wore this gorgeous Emilia Wickstead dress… beautiful color. Great length on Kate. There seems to be a bit too much fabric gathered at the waist, which makes me wonder if Kate should have gone down a size (maybe to 00?). I also love her hat (by Lock & Co.). Kate's so lucky to have a face for hats – so many Englishwomen can do hats properly, and so few American women can. Also, Kate just needs to wear hats more often because it keeps her from fooling with her hair during public events. Oh, and her gold shamrock pin? It once belonged to the Queen Mum. I'm guessing that after the Queen Mother's death, it went into the royal jewelry archives, where the Queen lends it out to royal ladies for special occasions. Either that or someone actually gave Kate that pin to keep. The Queen? Prince Charles? William? You can read more about the event here, at The Mail. It seems like 40 officers were pre-selected to receive shamrock boutineers/corsage things. The Irish Wolfhound mascot got a shamrock corsage too! Is that a dog or a small pony? Also – after the formal ceremony, Kate joined some of the men for a private luncheon, where she was photographed sipping sherry. Last year, Prince William was made a Colonel of the Irish Guard, and he wore the red uniform for his wedding to Kate. I've heard that the Queen insisted on that – that William wear the red jacket of an Irish Guard. I heard that William wanted to wear the formal dress uniform of one of his other military ranks, like as lieutenant with the RAF. |
Chelsea Handler hosts the Human Rights Campaign gala: bad choice? Posted: 18 Mar 2012 08:43 AM PDT These are photos from last night's Human Rights Campaign gala held in LA. Chelsea Handler was the hostess of the gala – for an organization that preaches tolerance and acceptance. FOR REAL? The Human Rights Campaign might want to rethink that one. Not only is Chelsea not the even close to the right "face" of the HRC, this is what she wore. To a gala. Where she was the hostess. A beachy coverup dress and those biker boots. WTF? I sometimes feel like Chelsea is like the 50-something alcoholic mother of a teenager, and the mom is constantly trying to (drunkenly) seem younger, and “wear what the kids are wearing.” Also: for all of the Jolie-haters who constantly complain about The Vein – look at Chelsea's forehead vein. That vein is trying to out-vein Angelina's. Also at the event: Joe Manganiello. It's always nice to see a straight actor with a "butch" image supporting the HRC. Joe's also really tight with Matt Bomer. I think they went to school together… and now I’m thinking about what it would look like if Bomer and Manganiello were getting crazy on each other. HOT. And here's Charlize, fresh from WonderCon. She received the HRC's Ally for Equality Award. I feel like Charlize wins a gay-rights award every other year – she's a huge HRC and GLAAD supporter. As for her style in this black Acne dress – if Charlize hadn't just adopted a baby, I would be suggesting that she's pregnant. Seriously – this dress was made for pregnancy rumors. Maybe Fassbender's the father. Or maybe Alexander Skarsgard. Or maybe BOTH! |
Lily Colins wears D&G at the ‘Mirror, Mirror’ premiere: cute or busted? Posted: 18 Mar 2012 07:58 AM PDT Last night was the big LA premiere of Mirror, Mirror, the horrible-looking version of Snow White with hairy Lily Collins as Snow and Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. Ordinarily, I would make Julia the lead, because Julia rarely does red carpets these days so it's always notable when she does. However, Julia looked meh, and I'd rather focus my attention on little Lily. First of all, I like Lily's Dolce & Gabbana dress. It's appropriate for her age (23) and frame (petite but not child-like). It's also occasion-appropriate – her first big lead role in a big studio film. This is her "coming out" as a movie star, and the dress fits. But seriously, let's talk about the hair situation. And I mean ALL of the hair. Look, I understand that Lily is hellbent on keeping her eyebrows as-is, but this hairstyle just makes me think that she actually IS embarrassed by them. Because these bangs cover most of the eyebrows, it feels like she gave herself bangs on purpose instead of simply tweezing. Still, you can see some of the eyebrows peeking out. And it's… not a good situation. Once again, she's a pretty little thing – my only issue is with this one grooming issue. I don’t even mind her bangs, and you know how I feel about bangs. I know, I know. Some of you are brow-accepting, but I just find it so distracting, especially because now she’s doing the peekaboo brows. I just feel like she would look so much prettier if she just took off some of those hairs that are trying to make their way into a full-fledged unibrow. And here's Julia in a pantsuit, with the director. My mom always loved Julia back in the day, and my dad always said, "She's pretty now, but she's not going to age well." He was right. Last thing: did you know Sean Bean was in this movie??!?!? He plays the King. OMG. I'm so embarrassed for him. |
Michael Fassbender & Charlize Theron get friendly, ‘Prometheus’ trailer released Posted: 18 Mar 2012 06:13 AM PDT There are twenty-million new Charlize Theron photos this weekend, so you're just going to hold on and read everything, because of some of the Charlize-related stuff is very interesting. These are photos of Charlize and Michael Fassbender at WonderCon yesterday, promoting Ridley Scott's Prometheus, which is the Alien prequel-thing. Noomi Rapace and Idris Elba are also in the film, but they weren't at WonderCon to promote it. Just Fassy and Charlize, who have always seemed like they really get along. I imagine that was a fun film set, with the two of them. And don't even start with "They should get together!" Charlize is not Fassy's type. And Charlize is too busy with her new baby – and she's probably boning Alexander Skarsgard in a gay bar too. PS… Skarsgard was at WonderCon as well. So while it seems like Charlize is giving Fassy the look of love/lust, let's be real. EVERY WOMAN gives him that look. Also: the full-length Prometheus trailer was released. OMFG. THIS LOOKS SO GOOD. I know it's going to scare the bejesus out of me. I also know I'm going to see it on opening weekend, because of The Fassbender. He looks like he's going to be a creepy android f–k in this. Bless him. Mmm… Fassy. Leather. His hair has grown out a bit too. And he shaved. Sigh… Nicole Beharie is a lucky bitch. |
Kim Kardashian’s ridiculous face was in Las Vegas: how plastic did she look? Posted: 18 Mar 2012 06:07 AM PDT When I was looking at these photos in the thumbnails, I was all, "Wow, finally. Kim Kardashian's kat-face doesn't look so insane for once." But then I looked at the hi-res photos. I was wrong. It is INSANE. Her cheeks, her lips, her marble-like forehead – it's just ridiculous at this point, especially considering how pretty she was just five years ago. Anyway, these are photos from Rob Kardashian's 25th birthday bash at 1Oak in Las Vegas on Friday night. Kim's date was her mom, of course. Kourtney and Khloe didn't come to the event, though. They tweeted birthday congrats to Rob, of course, and Kim tweeted this photo: Ugh. Can Kim not pose like that when she’s standing next to her brother?!?! In other Kat-face news, TMZ has the latest on her divorce proceedings with Kris Humphries:
[From TMZ] Hmm… it would be interesting to hear a divorce lawyer's take on this. If the annulment goes through (with one or both of them admitting to fraud), doesn't that make the prenup null and void? Or is TMZ's source saying that Kim and Kris have already worked out a settlement ($7 million to Kris, the last I heard), and now they just have to work out who gets the "blame". Here's a tip, Kris and Kim: we dislike both of you. A lot. It doesn't matter to us who gets "blamed". Both of you are at fault. |
Jennifer Lawrence in red Marchesa in Berlin: ice-skater fug or not that bad? Posted: 18 Mar 2012 05:31 AM PDT I'm just going to say it: I've been really disappointed with Jennifer Lawrence's style during the promotional tour for The Hunger Games. It's just… lacking. I understand that she's channeling the Katniss character, and that for people who love the books, these dresses MEAN something. Also, I think that her stylist is probably bought and paid for by the studio. But first it was the back-to-back, ill-fitting gold gowns (ugh), then it was the visible discomfort with the Tom Ford zipper dress, and now this red Marchesa for the Berlin premiere. I should have known it was Marchesa at first glance, just because it looks like a cheap ice-skater's outfit. I had to look it up, though, because I didn't believe that someone so young and pretty like J-Law would ever wear this horrendous dress from a busted label. Look, I think Jennifer is extremely talented. She's one of the most talented young actresses working today, and she has the slew of awards and nominations to back that up. Maybe she doesn't care about fashion. The thing is, though – I think she does care. She cares, and she simply doesn't know what she should do, so she's listening to the wrong people. Also, her makeup is all wrong. It looks like she forgot to put on lipstick, right? The "nude lip" doesn't work on her at all, especially not with such a bright dress. She should try a happy-medium lip color, something in-between "flesh-tone corpse" and "too bright". Like a substantial pink, or something with some brown. Elizabeth Banks wore Elie Saab, by the way. I'm not crazy about traffic-cone orange on the red carpet, but Banks pulls it off. Why isn't Banks styling J-Law? |
