True Blood finale: has it jumped the shark or left you anxious for more? Posted: 12 Sep 2011 08:44 AM PDT
The stuff where Eric and Bill offed Nan reminded me of when Bill killed the Vampire Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne. Also, there weren’t any quotable lines at the end when Sookie accidentally killed what’s-her-face, Debbie. The episode just ended with Sookie holding a gravely injured Tara and screaming out. “somebody please help us, somebody!” In the parallel scene in the books, it’s just Sookie and Debbie, with Tara having nothing to do with it. It makes you wonder if they’re going to kill off Tara’s character, which I wouldn’t mind, honestly, or if one of the vamps is going to whisk in and save Tara. I think Eric gave Tara his blood in the books in some other incident, but I don’t remember it too clearly. She’s still alive in the last book I read. Also, there were some nice scenes and lines about trusting your heart. Alcide made a really lame plea for Sookie’s love by saying he wanted to go with his head instead of his heart. He said “People always say follow your heart… What if our hearts can’t be trusted? What if it’s our brains we should be listening to?” Then when all the spirits in the cemetery got resurrected by Holly’s spell, Sookie’s grandmother came back temporarily from the other world to tell her that “[The answers where it always is, your heart. Being alone ain't nothing to be afraid of, my Sookie. We're all alone at the end.” Maybe that’s why they’re killing off her best friend, so we can see Sookie truly alone for once, but we’ll have to wait for next season to see. True Blood has been renewed for a fifth season, so there’s sure to be more obnoxious one-liners and campy plots for us to enjoy. |
Rachel Weisz in Jason Wu in Toronto: gorgeous or bland? Posted: 12 Sep 2011 08:24 AM PDT Rachel Weisz is in Toronto too, to promote yet another new movie. I feel like she has half a dozen films coming out! This one is called The Deep, Blue Sea, and I'll discuss it in a moment. Let's talk about fashion first. Rachel wore Jason Wu, one of her favorite designers, to the Toronto premiere. Thoughts on the Wu? I feel like Rachel has problems with color. Sure, she looks amazing in red, but when she veers into blues, greys and greens, the shades tends wash her out? Doesn't her skin look kind of weird here? But if you just showed me the dress, I would like it. I do love her makeup and her hair, though. All in all, not the worst look at all. Rachel walked the red carpet with her costar, Tom Hiddleston. No Daniel Craig! BOO. Maybe they're waiting for the Dream House premiere to walk the red carpet together. God, that will be so, so hot. I can't wait. As for Tom - he seems kind of geeky and odd. Do you girls get hot for him? I can't see it. As for the film, The Deep, Blue Sea is about a woman in her 40s (Weisz) who leaves her husband to embark on a torrid affair. Gee, art imitating life much? Here's part of The Hollywood Reporter's review:
[From The Hollywood Reporter] Basically, it's a quiet period film, a throwback to the "women's films" of the 1950s, and it's kind of depressing. The film is getting mixed reviews. Here's a scene: |
George Clooney didn’t want Stacy Keibler hanging on him all night Posted: 12 Sep 2011 07:47 AM PDT Well, following the "debut" of George Clooney's new official piece, Stacy Keibler, we now have multiple reports of how loved-up they were together in Toronto. So, this is how it went: Stacy and George arrive in Toronto together, there are multiple sightings of them hanging out, and even one photo of the two of them sipping champagne (that photo later got pulled under mysterious circumstances). Then Stacy isn't invited to the pre-party for The Ides of March, but she is invited to the premiere, but she has to walk the red carpet solo, before George even gets there. Then, over the next few days, she gets her tenuous girlfriend roll-out as she and Clooney are spotted together in the same frame, in the same time and place, leaving one of the parties. And now we have insider dish on what Stacy and George were like inside the parties:
[From Page Six] E! News says that "they came together" to the Vanity Fair party for The Descendents, but "there wasn’t a ton of PDA because they were both doing their own thing, but she did come back to him every once in awhile…George and Stacey looked really happy and left together, as well." Hm…interesting. She was off doing her own thing while Clooney did the glad-handing and such. Usually he likes his pieces close to him, and silent. Us Weekly has yet another version of Stacy's "own thing":
[From Us Weekly] You know what I find amusing? Stacy is being positioned as a genuine celebrity in her own right, like she knows all of the A-listers at the party, she's friendly with them and she can go off and do her own thing because she's just as famous and popular as George, and, like, everybody wants to meet the world-famous Stacy Keibler, right? Yeah… NO. If George wasn't debuting her as his girlfriend, no one would give a crap. She wouldn't have even been let into the party. I feel kind of bad for her - I feel like she's forcing it? I also feel like the chick is busted. This weekend was one of the biggest nights of her life, her debut as George Clooney's girlfriend, and this is how her makeup looks? This is how she dresses? This is her hair weave/rat's nest ball? Busted. |
Kate Gosselin “to be a good parent is to work hard & give them the best opportunities” Posted: 12 Sep 2011 07:07 AM PDT
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy Tonight is the finale of Kate Plus 8 and we would be dancing around to Wizard of Oz tunes if it weren’t for Kate’s eight kids, who now have to directly deal with the wrath that is their piece of work, germaphobe mom instead of having a camera crew act as human shields. I’ve set my DVR to record tonight’s finale and will be dutifully reporting the worst parts. Kate’s nastiness on the last second-to-last episode got lambasted by Anderson Cooper, and The Soup also did a great job of mocking Kate over the weekend. It just makes me wonder what producers saved for us in the final episode. You know they have been covering for her for years and probably have a ton of footage they’ve saved of her acting awful. So Kate talked to Matt Lauer on the Today Show this morning. (NBC and TLC are both owned by the same company.) She made a bunch of the same bullsh*t comments we’ve heard from her to date about how she’s been providing for her kids, but she took it a little further this time and we got to see how entitled she is and how she considers good parenting to be the same as making money. It didn’t come as a surprise I guess, but I still found it revealing.
Look, Kate said it all when she said that being a good parent is working hard to provide for her kids. Kate’s idea of good parenting is not being there for her kids, it’s not understanding what’s going on with them, relating to them or working with them to make sure they’re healthy, well adjusted little people, it’s making money, being rich and ignoring them except to bark out orders. She’ll continue to do that as long as she’s enabled. Here’s hoping she doesn’t get that gig with The Talk. Update: Here’s Kate outside The Wendy Williams show today. (Credit: Fame) |
Michael Fassbender brought Zoe Kravitz to Toronto: they’re back together? Posted: 12 Sep 2011 07:05 AM PDT I don't even want to talk about this. I'm so disappointed and disheartened. SOB. Michael Fassbender and Zoe Kravitz are either A) Still a couple, having never broken up in the first place or B) Back together after a few months-long split that saw Zoe dating several B-listers, unworthy of following in the footsteps of the Fassdong (mixed metaphor, but whatever, that's how upset I am). According to LaineyGossip's Twitter feed, Zoe Kravitz was in Toronto last night with Michael at the after-party for Shame. Michael flew into Toronto straight from his Venice Film Festival victory as Best Actor - he missed the promotional rounds for A Dangerous Method, but he's the centerpiece of Shame, and he needed to be there. But instead of hearing about The Fassdong's triumphant showing amongst hot Canadian girls, we now have reports that Zoe and Fassie are back together:
[From Lainey's Twitter] So, WTF happened? First it seemed like Zoe and Fassie were already petering out by the time X-Men: First Class premiered early this summer. And then Fassbender flew to England and Scotland, where he was working on Ridley Scott's Prometheus, and Zoe stayed in NYC. Then, in July, there were suddenly all of these sightings of Zoe with Penn Badgley - they seemed to be going on dinner and movie dates, and then Zoe was spotted with some former child star (who many of us thought was one of her gays, but STILL). Us Weekly even seemed to confirm the split, claiming that Zoe was "figuring things out" with Fassie, and that things weren't "black and white". My unfortunate theory: I think they probably "took a break" while Michael was working in the UK, and Zoe used some of her male friends to make him jealous and it worked. I can't believe it worked. I'm so disappointed. These are some photos of Michael in Toronto for Shame, plus some photos of Zoe doing the rounds during NY Fashion Week on Saturday. So… she didn't get invited to Venice, but she gets an invite to Toronto? Hmm. Oh, and that person holding a sign which reads "Ich liebe dich" - that means "I love you" not "I love dick" as I originally thought. If I ever wait outside for Fassie, I'll totally hold up a sign that says "I love dick." |
Jennifer Garner, pregnant in Yves Saint Laurent: too sack-like or lovely? Posted: 12 Sep 2011 06:21 AM PDT
Anyway Garner is pregnant, and we don’t know how far along she is but she made the announcement about three weeks ago, so it’s three or four months by now probably. This will be her third child with husband Ben Affleck, and they said in the announcement they’re of course “thrilled” to have another one. There’s a lot of talk that they’re hoping for a boy after two girls, but I’m sure that whatever gender baby they have they’ll still be overjoyed.

Salma Hayek’s metallic boobs in McQueen: busted, budget or cute? Posted: 12 Sep 2011 05:56 AM PDT I feel like we haven't heard from Salma Hayek in a while. It's been about a month, right? Yes, it has. The first weeks of August were lousy with reports that Salma's husband had fathered Linda Evangelista's son, and if you look at the actual timeline of the pregnancy, you see that Francois-Henri Pinault and Salma were in some stage of togetherness when he was boning Linda. Still, Salma loves her billionaire husband, and so she's stuck by him, through thick and thin. They did a photo op just days after Linda asked for $46,000 a month in child support, and then Salma also appeared on the cover of Allure - where she claimed she had never gotten anything done to her face. So now for the new photos - Salma is in Toronto, promoting her film Americano. Her dress is McQueen, and I really dislike it. It's not that I don't believe Salma's rack should showered in gold. I just don't think her rack should be showered in this budget-looking gold-metallic detailing. It looks like part of a pirate's costume. Plus, this mustardy color is doing Salma no favors. And her hair sucks too. And look at her eyebrows…? They look really unkempt. This is just a bad look, and Salma looks really thin and tired to me. As for the film, it sounds interesting, although pretty depressing. It's about a youngish man sorting out his life after his mother's death, and he seeks out a family friend, played by Salma, who works at a strip club in Tijuana. You can read more about the film here. |
Jennifer Lopez went on a date with…. Bradley Cooper? Posted: 12 Sep 2011 05:36 AM PDT
Anyway Bradley was seen out in NY having a romantic dinner with Jennifer Lopez. There’s no doubt that it wasn’t a group situation or something like that, and it sounds like a temporary match made in publicist heaven.
[From TMZ] In no way does Lopez seem like Cooper’s type at all, especially if he was almost ready to settle down with Zellweger. Renee is shy, humble and kind and has talked about how she hates fame. (Although she definitely seems to be warming up to it recently.) J.Lo is basically a flashy “look at me” famewhore and a diva. Still, there are plenty of men who don’t seem to have a type. If Cooper really is the ladies’ man that his people would have us believe, I could see him willingly going on a date or two with Lopez. They seem like such a mismatch to me though. This is Lopez wanting to make her ex jealous, and Cooper’s people wanting to keep his name in the press. They’ve been trying to make him happen since he was first linked to Jennifer Aniston in 2007. Judging from the success of Limitless, it seems to have worked. Here’s Bradley Cooper at the US Open final yesterday with actor/director Ron Rifkin and Ron’s wife, Iva. He’s shown in the header on 9/6/11 at the GQ Men of the Year awards. What’s up with that hair? Credit: Fame. J.Lo is shown on 7/9/11. Credit: WENN.com |
‘Spartacus’ star Andy Whitfield has passed away at the age of 39 Posted: 12 Sep 2011 05:26 AM PDT It's always sad when a talented young man is cut down in his prime. But isn't it a little extra sad when the guy is really hot too? Andy Whitfield, star of the television series Spartacus, has lost his battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He was diagnosed last year, and I honestly thought he was in remission. People Magazine reports that the lymphoma "reoccurred" though. He was 39.
[From People] By all reports, Whitfield was a really lovely guy, adored and respected by his coworkers, friends and family. It's such a loss for Hollywood, for the people who loved him, and for his fans. So sad. |
Keira Knightley in lace Elie Saab: lovely or sad and doily-fug? Posted: 12 Sep 2011 04:33 AM PDT I avoided writing about the promotional rounds for A Dangerous Method at the Toronto Film Festival because my Michael Fassbender wasn't there. He had to pull out of the promotion at the last minute to run back to Venice and collect his Best Actor trophy! So Viggo Mortensen and Keira Knightley were in Toronto to represent the film. It's not that I dislike either of them - okay, well, Keira plucks my nerves sometimes, but I give her the benefit of the doubt more than some people. Viggo just seems kind of bland to me these days. He's nice and everything, but with the Fassdong hanging around, who can pay attention to Viggo? Alas, Vincent Cassel didn't come to Toronto either. Boo! So, it was the Viggo and Keira Show, and my, don't they look friendly. They looked very touchy-feely and friendly during the Venice round too, I just never mentioned it because… you know, The Fassdong. But here they are, giving each other little looks and holding hands. Do I think they've ever boned? I don't know. I think Viggo might be friendly with everybody, and maybe he's just trying to get the always-morose Keira to brighten up and smile. Or maybe he's trying to get into her pants. I have no idea. I do know that Keira brought her boyfriend, James Righton, to Toronto. Keira started up with James about two seconds after she and Rupert Friend split. Keira wore a colorful Wren dress for the press conference and photo call, and then she switched into the pinkish-beige lace Elie Saab for the Toronto premiere. I like the colorful Wren - Keira's "casual-wear" has been very good lately. The Elie Saab is kind of meh to me. It reminds me of the spectacular gold lace Valentino she wore in Venice, but the comparison isn't fair to the Saab. The Valentino was a revelation - the Saab looks like a doily. Keira, Viggo, Fassbender and Cronenberg also covered the most recent issue of The Hollywood Reporter. The story is just the insider-industry version of how the film got made - you can read it here. There's also a new poster for the film, with Keira's big head still dominating everything. MORE FASSBENDER, PLS. |
