The Daily WTF: Marc da Cuhna Lopes’ Domestic Skeletons Posted: 22 Sep 2011 12:13 PM PDT French photographer Marc da Cuhna Lopes sees the world in a bizarre, dystopian way. His new series features animal skeletons hanging out in domestic settings. These photos actually are actually comprised of two images — Marc shot grim settings he came across and superimposed digital bone-structures on top of them. Is it just me, or is that lizard skeleton thing up to no good? In my scenario, he’s a nightwatchman in a post-apocalyptic movie about a mental institution (Lizard, Interrupted), and he’s sneaking about stealing all the other skeletons’ meds. Actually, that’s not a terrible idea for a movie. You listening, Hollywood? (via) Post from: Crushable |
Crushable Exclusive: Felicity Jones Enjoys Naked Hot Tubbing In Chalet Girl Posted: 22 Sep 2011 12:13 PM PDT Before the critically-acclaimed Like Crazy comes to theaters, check out its star Felicity Jones in the indie film Chalet Girl. She plays Kim, a champion skateboarder who lucks into a job at a swanky chalet up in the Alps and falls for her boss’ son Jonny (Gossip Girl‘s Ed Westwick). Crushable’s got an exclusive clip from the movie: While the boss is away, Kim and the other employees decide to have a big party complete with crazy Finnish people who love to roll around in the freezing snow and them jump into the hot tubs. Naked, of course. Chalet Girl is already available on cable Video On Demand as well as online; you can rent it here. Those of you who like to watch your movies in the traditional way can catch it in theaters starting October 14. Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
Did ‘The X-Factor’ Intentionally Obscure Stacy Francis’ Past Success As A Singer? Posted: 22 Sep 2011 12:01 PM PDT Everyone is talking today about Stacy Francis, the 42-year-old single mother who wowed the judges on The X-Factor last night with her passionate rendition of Aretha Franklin‘s Natural Woman. And rightfully so! She did a great job (even if she was flat at times). However, after doing a bit of research on her, I found out the show was somewhat misleading in presenting her as a struggling single mother who sings only after her kids go to sleep at night. Stacy Francis has already had quite a bit of success in the music business, getting signed to a major label in the nineties and starring in several Broadway and West End (as in, London’s Broadway) musical theater productions. She has yet to attain mega-fame, it’s true, but she’s hardly in danger of dying, as she said last night, “with this music in me.” In the early nineties, Francis was part of an R&B group called Ex-Girlfriend that was signed to Reprise Records. They put out two albums before disbanding in 1994; their biggest hit was “X Marks The Spot,” which performed well on both the R&B and Billboard Hot 100 singles charts. Since then, Stacy has worked frequently as a singer and actress, appearing in Broadway, West End, and regional theater productions, as well as various movies and TV shows. She booked her first Broadway show in 1997. As recently as a few years ago, she could be seen performing the Jennifer Hudson role in San Diego Musical Theatre‘s production of Dreamgirls. Additionally, Francis is involved with the Church of Scientology and seems to have made some connections through that. Here’s a video of her performing at Tom Cruise‘s birthday party three years ago: Tom and David’s big night out from Tom and David on Vimeo. Discussing Stacy’s recent divorce and current appearance on The X-Factor, members of a messageboard for ex-Scientologists speculated that Scientology played a role in her divorce. (We know it’s recent because she and her husband moved to Los Angeles together in 2007.) “Looks like her marriage ended, and I cant help but wonder if that is due to the church. I dont think her husband the dentist was all that into Scientology,” writes one person. It wouldn’t be the first marriage Scientology has broken up. Another person admits that Scientology may have helped Stacy gain confidence: “When you think you are an immortal spiritual being with super powers who can bend time and space with your postulates it does give you confidence. And that delusion is probably most helpful for a performer.” None of this should discredit Stacy’s performance in the competition. If anything, the fact that someone could find steady work as a performer for so many years and still never break through to major label success shows just how hard it is to chase that dream. It also shows that she’s a person who takes initiative and goes after the things she wants, rather than some cowering abused woman held hostage for a decade by her baby daddy, a woman who just happened to miraculously find the strength to enter a singing competition at age 42, at which point an enormous voice came out of her as if by magic. But I guess it pulls on people’s heartstrings more to stick to the imaginary narrative? On that token, I find it somewhat irresponsible how the show played on stereotypes about black unwed mothers; she refers to her ex-husband as “someone she met” and makes it sound like she’s raising her kids completely on her own. In reality, the man she was married to until recently runs a thriving dental practice and appears to be engaged with his children, at least in this Youtube video of him I found: Again, he may very well have been a shitty husband who told her she’d never succeed in the music business, but why make it sound worse than it is? I think it does a disservice to Stacy Francis to distort and manipulate her life story in this way when the real story is plenty compelling on its own. Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
Posted: 22 Sep 2011 11:29 AM PDT Despite what they’re saying to the media that they’re OK with getting kicked off The Real Housewives of New York City, Alex McCord and Simon Van Kempen are reportedly freaking out—and going to desperate measures to beg for their jobs back. A source close to Bravo tells E! that Alex and Simon are heading to Bravo HQ today and will play off the fact that Andy Cohen seems to think they’re still useful:
All they need to do is have more scenes like their skin-crawling reunion after Alex came back from Morocco, when Simon presented her with garment bags filled with lingerie that she later modeled for him… all on-camera. We were appalled, but it made for great TV. No comment from Bravo yet. And what were Simon and Alex saying just a few days ago? Alex:

Video: Emma Watson’s First Kiss With Rupert Grint Was Extremely Awkward Posted: 22 Sep 2011 11:17 AM PDT Emma Watson and Rupert Grint basically grew up together on the sets of the various Harry Potter movies. So when it came time for them to have their first kiss on camera in the series’ final installment, they were justifiably weirded out. I mean, how would you feel if you suddenly had to make out with someone you’ve been good friends with since childhood? You’d feel weird, I bet. This video clip–taken from the upcoming Blu Ray release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2–gives a little behind-the-scenes look at what went into filming that first kiss. In it, director David Yates explains how Emma and Rupert are “like brother and sister,” so she wanted to get it right the first time and be done with it. Look at her go for it! Unfortunately, she ended up laughing and they had to do more takes anyway. I wonder how many they ultimately did? It has got to be at least a little bit fun kissing Rupert Grint…I mean, look at that goofy ginger face. It’s hilarious. Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
The New Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Trailer Proves That Rooney Mara Is Awesome Posted: 22 Sep 2011 11:15 AM PDT Oh man, this new trailer for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has gotten me super excited for the movie all over again. Playing against Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara seems to have really sunk her teeth into the role of hacker-punk Lisbeth Salander. All those piercings and leather plus a pretty convincing accent. In an interview given last month, Rooney discussed the two months of auditioning she went through with director David Fincher:
I for one, am pretty sure I’m going to end up glad she said yes. Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
Marc Martel Looks And Sounds Like Freddie Mercury Posted: 22 Sep 2011 12:15 PM PDT Internet: we have found you somebody to really like a lot. A Canadian singer named Marc Martel uploading this video of himself singing Queen‘s “Somebody to Love,” and we’re pretty impressed. Not only does Marc, with his impressive range, sound like Freddie Mercury, he resembles the flamboyant frontman as well. Maybe it’s just the mustache? Compare: Marc is actually already an usician artist in Canada. His Christian rock band, Downhere, has released five studios albums, and they’ve got four Juno Awards to their name. Still, I think Marc should move to the U.S. and compete on American Idol. I promise I’d vote for him every week. (via BuzzFeed) Post from: Crushable |
Weird Couple Alert: Lizzy Caplan and Matthew Perry Posted: 22 Sep 2011 09:46 AM PDT The U.S. Open is thrilling and all, but what’s got us shocked is new couple Matthew Perry and Lizzy Caplan, who basically announced they were dating when they went to the tennis match together. Talk about an odd couple; despite both being into comedy, they’re 13 years apart. Even though they’ve apparently been dating quietly for a while, we can find only two sets of photos: This match and Lizzy’s guest appearance on Mr. Sunshine this past April. So here’s your first look at… Mizzy? Latthew? Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
