PREVIEWS: Rihanna Talks Black People & Her Birthday With "Chelsea"+NEW "Put It In A Love Song" Video Preview

Posted: 10 Mar 2011 07:13 AM PST

Rude gal Rihanna stopped by "Chelsea Lately" as the show films in Sydney, Australia this week.  We've got a sneak preview of her appearance on the show, plus a new sneak peek of Alicia Keys' and Beyonce's "Put It In A Love Song" vid, when you read on...

RIhanna brought her Last Girl On Earth tour to Sydney this week.  And since funny girl Chelsea Handler is filming "Chelsea Lately" there this week, Rih Rih had to stop by.  She dished to Chels about the lack of black folks in Australia saying:

“I look around at my concerts and there is like one or two.  It is a rare thing and these people can be very black, too.  They are very beautiful, very special.”

I wonder if she's speaking of the Aborigines.  Oh Rih...

And the girls talked about Rihanna's 23rd birthday weeks ago that Chelsea was invited to, but didn't even get the chance to see the birthday girl:

"We personally requested you and Chuy to be there. And you both came but you came so early in the night, I was still upstairs painting my face on so I missed you,” Rihanna said.

Handler returned, saying that she thought it would be an intimate event, but she was taken aback when she learned that hundreds of people showed up.

She said, “The personal request was interesting because apparently you requested 15,000 other people to show up as well.”

“It was supposed to be only 250 people and 600 people showed up,” Rihanna said. “We just kinda let everybody in. It was just a fun night.”

The Rihanna episode will air tonight at 11 p.m. ET.

And oddly, another new sneak peek of Alicia and Beyonce's "Put It In A Love Song" just hit the net.  The vid was supposed to come out this time last year, but Alicia's label decided to can it in place of "Unthinkable".  So no word if this is actually a "new" preview, or if it was done a while ago and is just now leaking.

Keep hope alive....

The Randomness:

1.  Miss Lawrence of "RHOA" has just been cast on BET Centric's "The Steve Harvey Project" as the entertainment segment host.  Oh goodness... Story

Sean "Diddy" Combs Ranks #1 Among Wealthiest Hip-Hop Artists + Jay-Z Auctioning Off Two Court Side Seats For Charity

Posted: 10 Mar 2011 06:13 AM PST

According to the Forbes Five list of wealthiest hip-hop artists, Sean "Diddy" Combs reigns supreme with an estimated net worth of $475 million.  See who else made the list and how they stacked up against Mr. Combs inside, plus get the deets on Jay-Z's charity prize and the latest YBF giveaway...

In a recent report, Forbes magazine listed the five wealthiest hip-hop artists in the nation and ranked Sean "Diddy" Combs in the number one spot.  Diddy comes out on top this year due to his interests in Sean John clothing, the Bad Boy Worldwide record label and his Diageo joint-venture vodka brand Ciroc bringing his estimated net worth up to $475 million.

Rap-mogul Jay-Z ranks a close second, with $450 million based on his interests in music, fashion and books.  Dr. Dre ranks third with $125 million, while Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who had a nine-figure payday from the sale of Vitamin Water to Coca-Cola, is worth $100 million.

And guess who comes in fifth place?  The "King of Bling" himself, Cash Money Records cofounder Bryan “Birdman” Williams is listed in fifth place, in a tie with 50 cent, with a net worth of $100 million.

The list itself is based on procedures used to calculate the list of the world’s billionaires.  Experts looked at current holdings, past earnings, financial documents and had conversations with analysts, attorneys, managers and other industry players.

And in case you feel like Russell Simmons was overlooked, the list is limited to performers, which explains his absence.

And speaking of Jay-Z....

The "Hey Papi" rapper has teamed with CharityBuzz.com to auction off two court side seats for an upcoming New York Knicks game to benefit the Stephen Gaynor School in New York.

The tickets are valued at $20,000 and the winning bidder will have seats next to Jay-Z.

Fans can find out more information here

The auction will run until March 30th.

Dirty Money's Kalenna Harper Speaks On The Drawbacks Of Being Dark Skinned In The Music Industry

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 05:06 PM PST

It's no secret that skin color is still an issue in the Black community and unfortunately the darker the berry - the juice is not always sweeter, so says Kalenna Harper of Dirty Money

In a recent interview, Kalenna speaks openly about how her dark skin tone once held back her musical dreams as record execs told her dark skin was not marketable.  Get the deets inside...

In a recent interview, Dirty Money member Kalenna Harper spoke very candidly about her experiences with being “Too Black” for the music industry.  She recently told “Scene And Heard TV,”

“I kind of started off as a solo artist, and I was doing that for a very
long time. And you know, just coming up against obstacles; they was like,
you know, ‘you too black,’ or ‘you’re not marketable.’ Whatever they came
up with in their minds to say that I wasn’t artist material, you know. I
just said I’m going to be a businesswoman, and I’m going to be like the
Missy Elliotts, and the R. Kellys, and the Keith Sweats. I’m going to
write for other artists, and they’re not going to have no other choice but
to hear me, and to buy my music, and to respect me as an artist.

That was complexion wise. It was complexion, and you know something, it’s
a difference between chocolate and brown and peanut butter and even
Snicker bar, you know what I’m saying. Chocolate is something different,
you know. And so the way they made it seem was, you black as night girl;
you crispy, burnt black, and that’s just not marketable right now. And it
wasn’t at the time to be totally honest with you."

Well....Kalenna did get her big break in the industry and I hope other brown chicks get their shine on too.

The YBF REMEMBERS: The Notorius B.I.G. (1972-1997)

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 02:33 PM PST

Fourteen years ago today, one of the greatest MCs that hip-hop has ever known, busted a rhyme for the last time.  And though he went by many names, from the Notorious B.I.G. to Frank White to Biggie Smalls to Big Poppa, whatever you chose to call him, we at TheYBF.com would like to pay tribute to one of the best to ever do it.

It's a story that's been told many ways, by many people, with many twists and turns that have yet to be solved.  But what all people agree on is that Christopher Wallace was fatally shot on March 9, 1997 when a car he was riding in was shot at on Fairfax Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. Many of the details preceding the shooting and following it are still covered in mystery.

The case remains wide open even as a task force of local and federal officials in January 2011 announced they were looking into new leads.  And although a a wrongful death case filed by the Wallace family was dismissed without prejudice in April 2010, lawyers on both sides agreed to leave the civil case alone while a possible criminal case was investigated.  The case can be refiled at a later date without worrying about any statute of limitations.

So as the death of Frank White leaves many unanswered questions, one thing for certain is the continuing impact he has had on hip-hop and the millions of friends and fans who continue to quote his lyrics.

Here's what some other celebs have been saying about Biggie Smalls today:

Lil' Kim told MTV News:

“Biggie taught me a lot of things that I will keep in a very sacred place. He is the one who basically let me know that somebody’s always watching you.  If he saw me doing something wrong, he would correct me right then and there no matter who was around and how he had to talk to me. A lot of people looked at him as being very controlling over me but I guess at times I kind of looked at it like he just really looked at me as something very delicate.”

Shaquille O'Neal shared:

"First time I heard of Biggie Smalls was when he said my name in a rap.  He said, 'I'm slammin' brothers like Shaquille it is real,' and instantly I became a fan."

In fact, Shaq says he and Biggie were good friends and he was supposed to be with him the night of the shooting.

Biggie invited Shaq out on the night of his death, but Shaq was unable to make it when his head of security "Uncle" Jerome Crawford, was unable to get past security in time to make it to the party.

"I was on my way. I was dressed," he explained. "Usually Uncle Jerome will just come up, but I guess he tried to call and the front desk wouldn't let him through. I just fell asleep. I woke up about 4 o'clock from a call from my mother. She said 'Did you go to the party?' I'm like, 'No, what are you talking about?' She said, 'You know, your friend was shot and killed.' And I was like, 'What?' So then I hung up with her and called some people and they told me what had happened."

Shaq says he thinks if he were with Biggie that night, things would have turned out different.

Lil' Cease co-sign on Shaq's statements:

"I think that would have changed things.  If Shaq would have said 'You know what, I'mma come with y'all.' I'm sure him and B.I.G. would have rolled together, because that's the type of person B.I.G. was. I'm sure Shaq would have had security and I'm sure B.I.G. would have had enough security to come with him that day to make sure Shaq was alright. So I definitely think if Shaq would have been there, it definitely would have changed, definitely would have changed."

Dave Chapelle tweeted:

"It's #biggieday and if the first thing you think of is Wendy's Biggie fries, we might as well call today Fat Wednesday.  I don't know what was worse about the 90's, losing Biggie or gaining Justin Bieber."

Raekwon tweeted:

Big up to the late great B.I.G!!!!!!! We miss u general, u are the social studies book of rap! Your legacy is greatly Appreciated!

Jadakiss tweeted:

waken...baken...proper medication. roll two and get double high..roll 3 one for B.I.G

Diddy tweeted to his 3 million followers:

"Today is #BIGGIEDAY – send me all your videos, links, photos, exclusive content ... ALL things BIGGIE so I can RT to the world!!"

Here's one of the videos Diddy retweeted:

The latest issue of the mag reports the shower, hosted by Mimi's pr and management team and Angel Champagne's Stefano Zagni, was decorated in pink and blue hues.

Guests included celeb pals Randy Jackson, Piers Morgan, Penny Marshall, Lorraine Bracco, and Brett Ratner.  They nibbled on a selection of gourmet pizzas and appetizers and enjoyed Mariah's very own champagne, Angel.

There was a 6-foot-long gift table filled with tiny outfits, books and stuffed animals but Mimi said the  best gift came from her fans.

"There was a lot of love in the room, and to top it off, fans from more than 50 countries sent well-wishes and stories in a book they made for our twins titled Always Be My Babies, which was the sweetest gesture in the world.  It was a night I will never forget."
