MTV News Names Kanye West And Lady Gaga Their "People Of The Year"

Having dominated both the music charts and gossip columns for the past year, MTV News has named Kanye West "Man of the Year" for 2010 and Lady GaGa "Woman of the Year."  Deets inside...

 

Kanye West has been named MTV News "Man of the Year." After recovering from the Swiftgate incident, and a self-imposed hiatus, Kanye's triumphant comeback made him bigger than ever. With a hit album in My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye stayed true to the crazy ego maniac artist we have all come to love/hate or respect/loathe. 

 

And his Twitter rants and antics didn't hurt either I'm sure.

 

He is joined by Lady Gaga who didn't release an album this year but managed to stay on everyone's mind by constantly touring and rocking outrageous outfits at every music award show she attended.  There are even college courses being taught about her rise to "fame."

Congrats to both artists.

The Obama Family Not Invited To Prince William's Wedding + First Lady Michelle Makes A "Thrifty" Christmas Dress Hot

When Prince William marries Kate Middleton next year, don't expect to see the First Family in attendance.  The Obamas didn't even make the guest list.  Get the deets inside, plus find out where fashion icon Michelle Obama bought the thift store dress she rocked for the holidays...

The Obamas won't be sitting with the other heads of state when Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot on April 29, 2011 for the "wedding of the decade."

The UK's Daily Mail reported that William and Kate want to fill the seats of Westminster Abbey with ordinary citizens. And because the wedding isn't an official state event, the couple doesn't feel compelled to invite foreign dignitaries.

"The wedding will not be a formal state occasion since Prince William is neither the sovereign nor the heir to the throne," a St. James Palace spokesman said.  I guess...

 

In Other Obama news...

"Christmas in Washington," hosted by Ellen DeGeneres and featuring Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox and Maxwell airs tonight at 8 on TNT and we have shocking news about Michelle's gown.

Turns out the first lady is again making fashion news as she will be rocking a thrift store dress on the special. 

The "couture" black-lace overlay frock, featuring a high, square neckline and a full skirt was plucked from New York Vintage in Chelsea, a trendy neighborhood in NYC.

The NY Post reports, "The secondhand 1950s piece -- believed to be the first vintage dress worn by a first lady to a public event -- was made by American designer Norman Norelli, who died in 1972 and was among the most influential designers of his time."

The store's owners would not say how much the first lady paid for the dress, but one estimate for this hand-me-down was $2,500.

Vntage overs know there's a difference between vintage and "thrift".  But the media of course took the "thrift" edge and ran with it. 

Regardless, we now all have permission to raid our grandparents' closets as vintage clothing is now even more the "new" new.

Speaking of the Obamas, on the political tip, President Obama will sign the middle-class tax cut bill into law today at 3:50p ET to provide tax relief for families around the country. The bipartisan bill is a major victory for American families and will prevent a massive tax hike next year.

An estimated 2.2 million African American families will benefit from the expansion in the EITC and CTC that are extended in this agreement. These credits help roughly 4.7 million African American children or almost half (44%) of all African American children.

 

The extension of Unemployment Insurance will benefit 1.1 million African Americans. That is why the National Congress of Black Women praised the President for giving the unemployed a “new lease on life” and a “survival line” through the next 13 months.

Diddy & Dirty Money's 'Last Train To Paris' L.A. Album Release Party

The 'Last Train To Paris' release party went down at SupperClub in LA. YBF folks like Ciara, Teyana Taylor, Sanaa Lathan, and more came through.

Gucci Mane Released + Floyd Mayweather Warrant Re-issued

Rapper Gucci Mane has been released from jail.  Also, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. stemming from that recent battery charge for striking a security guard.  Deets inside...

 

Gucci Mane has been released following a raid on the home of fellow rapper Wacka Flocka Flame in Georgia.  Gucci was held by the cops on Thursday morning while Wacka's house was searched for drugs and illegal weapons. 

Although Gucci was later released, two others, including the brother of Kanye West's "See Me Now" co-producer Lex Luger, were arrested and charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

During the raid, cops confiscated a Kel-Tech .223 caliber sub gun, and a Taurus .40 caliber semi-automatic—as well as prescription drugs from his house.  The raid really P.O.ed Wacka's mom Debra Antney who told Global Grind,

 "...they just locked up Lex Luger's little brother, because he had a little joint or something, so they took him. They're just trying to find anything that they could find, they cut that boy's closet up. This is crazy! Because there's nothing in there, and it doesn't make sense for them to do this." 

She continued,

"...just because he's Waka Flocka and people stereotype him already, or Gucci, he's gotta be doing something wrong. They messed up now when they turned me into the candy lady, they got a problem now. You can't do that, that is defamation of character, you're not going to do that to me."

Lucky for him, Wacka, real name Juaquin Malphurs, was not home at the time of the raid.  I wonder if he's hiding from the po pos....

In other arrest news,

A Las Vegas judge has issued a warrant for Floyd Mayweather Jr's arrest for the SECOND time, based on a incident where he laid hands on a a security guard during a parking dispute.  Floyd is accused of acting a fool after receiving two parking tickets outside of his own home in Vegas.

The judge who originally issued the warrant recalled it on Dec. 7.  But after a hearing where he was accused of giving Floyd the celebrity treatment - he reissued the warrant. 

Floyd now faces six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.

WEDDING PHOTO: Jurnee Smollett & Josiah Bell Get Hitched!

After getting engaged several months ago, YBF Chick Jurnee Smollett got hitched to her fiance Josiah Bell this October.  Read on for the wedding deets...

 

This one certainly was done on the low.  Jurnee and her musician hubby got married in L.A. on October 24th, with only family and close friends in attendance.  The pic above is their official wedding photo.

They nixed the wedding planner and went the non-Bridezilla route with both planning all of the nuptials themselves.  And the couple registered at places like Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  People reports:

"It was such a fun process," the actress says. "We didn't hire a wedding planner. Josiah and I literally decided every detail together."

And she even averted the dreaded bridezilla role by keeping her partner close. "I didn't have the pressure of wondering whether or not the groom would like certain things," she says. "He was right there for every decision."

Sweet! And on how much the "Friday Night Lights" actress is loving married life so far:

"It's incredible," she says. "My best friend is my life partner. It doesn't get any better than that."

She's come a long way since "Cosby Show" and Eve's Bayou.  Congrats to the couple!

Last night, Microsoft Tag hosted a party for the release of Ciara's new album Basic Instinct (Dec 14th) at Drai's Hollywood.  

 

Not gonna lie, she always pulls off the athletic look and still looks cute.

Looks like Ciara really is back to take the crown.  Or something like that.

Vivica Fox Wigs Out On "Wendy Williams Show"

Vivica and her man Slimm and publicist BJ Coleman all hit up "The Wendy Williams Show" taping today in NYC.  Viv hit up her "sister in wigs" Wendy's show to talk about her new hair line and stage plays.

DMX Lands In Prison...Again!

No...this is not a scene from the movie Groundhog's Day.  DMX is back in the big house again. Find out what he did this time when you go inside...

 

Darkman X is in prison once again. The rapper violated his probation in Phoenix by not checking in with his probation officer.  DMX was arrested about a month ago for this infraction. And now, DMX has been sentenced to a year.

X has been out on parole since 2009. We have no more words...

*UPDATED* BREAKING: Waka Flocka's Home Raided, Gucci Mane Arrested!

Waka Flocka Flame's house was raided this morning by police. We've got the deets on the raid when you read on...

 

UPDATE: Gucci's manager/Waka's mom just spoke with Global Grind about what really went down....

 

A group of police raided Waka Flocka's home in Henry County Georgia today. Waka's mom/manager says that the police were looking for evidence of drugs, gang involvement, and possible prostitution. Police found marijuana and guns in the rapper's home.

Gucci Mane was taken away in cuffs from the home. Neighbors say that four cops cars are still outside the rapper's home. Waka's mom says that if her son doesn't return home soon the police will issue an arrest warrant.

Damn homie SMH. I'm not even surprised. I wonder if this video of Waka and Wiz smoking weed on camera had anything to do with it?

 

UPDATE: Waka's mom, Debra Antney, says that police are just trying to find evidence against her, her son, and Gucci. She said,

"I don't sell drugs and I'm not a gang banger. I'm not gonna have them go through that, not none of them boys - because most of them boys are trying to get their lives together. They are trying to find gang-afilliated stuff that they can't find. They're trying to call our company gangs, like we're all gangs - even me. Officers just called me the Candy Lady, they wouldn't let me leave, I was the one who was really locked in there who they had. They called me the Candy Lady they said I'm the one that's running the whole thing or whatever."

Antney also says that this another case of police harassing rappers saying, "we go through this because they're black, for one, so they can't be doing anything. The police aren't finding gang stuff - there is no gang stuff... this is what happens when people want to become celebrities themselves"

Brick Squad also has a concert planned to help kids get toys for Christmas. Antney is also worried that the raid will delay the concert. She said,

"I want yall to know that the stuff that's really bad is that those boys were getting ready tonight to do a big concert to raise toys for needy children. We have a huge event that's about to come up, and we don't need to go through this kind of stuff. They're really trying to help people, but you can't do anything when people keep with these rumors and stuff that they say. One person says something and everybody runs with it, and thats the person that you have to become."

 

Interesting. I still think that police were probably justified in the raid.

We're anything but surprised Kelis loves a good burlesque show.  She was spotted leaving the Roxy Club after watching Dita Von Teese's Burlesque show in Los Angeles last night.

UPDATE - Aretha Franklin Home After Surgery

The Queen of Soul is home after surgery. And we've got some additional news from a post-surgery interview that Aretha did.  Get the deets when you read on...

 

We told you earlier that Aretha Franklin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Now we can report the queen underwent a "highly successful" surgery in a Detroit hospital. Aretha released a statement shortly after saying,

"I've been at home for almost three days now, my family and friends who brought me home are taking great care of me. I also have a private nurse who visits on a daily basis. I'm hoping to be strong enough to go out and see the upcoming Sam Cooke play at the Music Hall in downtown Detroit before Jan. 2, as well as a performance of 'Dreamgirls' at the FOX before it closes,"

 

Let's hope the Queen gets better soon.

 

UPDATE:  In her first post-op surgery interview, the 20-time Grammy Award winner talked to her  longtime friend, Clarence Waldron of JET magazine.  She said,

"I feel great.  The doctors say I can do whatever I feel like I am up to do. Of course, that doesn't mean any concerts or anything like that, but I can do things around the house and today I am just piddling around the house."

Re Re didn't specifically address what the medical issue was but she revealed that doctors want her to recuperate for about eight weeks. She did say she would soon reveal her ailment but for now it's about getting rest. 

"I am putting Aretha together first.  We will put Ree Ree together first. This is Aretha time to do whatever it is that I need to do, but I will talk more later."

Since falling ill, a number of high profile celebs like Oprah, Patti LaBelle, and Berry Gordy have reached out.  Aretha said,

"I might not remember everyone's name right this moment, but please, I want them [to] know I appreciate their prayers.  My family has been with me every step of the way. I couldn't have done it without them, that's for sure."

 

 It seems like she is in good spirits about the situation.  That's a good thing.  Get well soon Queen.

Diddy Gets BANNED From Hotel After Model Chick's Weave Catches Fire?!

Remember this video we posted from Diddy's album release party yesterday where a naked model's weave caught fire?  Well....it has Diddy in some hot water and he might get banned from the posh hotel in New York where he had the bash.  Get the deets inside...

Yesterday we posted a video of a model's weaviliciousness catching fire at a party hosted by Diddy at the London Hotel in NYC.  She was chillin' in the jacuzzi tub surrounded by candles, and...you know the rest. Today, folks over at the hotel are meeting to try to figure out how this mishap happened as it violates hotel regulations.  If it doesn't go well, it may me the last train at The London and they may ban Diddy permanently.   

The incident could have been extinguished had someone not clipped the Ustream recording and posted it on the net last night. But then again, we wouldn't have the laughs we have now either.

TMZ reports that one hotel honcho fumed, "We are not happy with Diddy."
