People: Katie Holmes & Tom Cruise are divorcing after 5 years of marriage (updates)

Posted: 29 Jun 2012 10:20 AM PDT

OMG. OH. MY. GOD. I’m actually stunned. Truly. We joke a lot about Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise and their contracts and contractual negotiations and one of them being an unhinged midge, but SRSLY I can’t believe this is happening. TomKat is over. OVER.

After five years of marriage, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting a divorce, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” says Holmes’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”

The Rock of Ages star, 49, wed actress Holmes, 33, in an Italian castle in November 2006. They have daughter Suri, 6.

This was Holmes’s first marriage and the third for Cruise, who previously was married to the actresses Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children, and Mimi Rogers.

[From People]

Bedhead was just talking about how Tom and Katie have been spending more and more time apart, and now this. Over the past year – especially over the past six months – there has definitely been a noticeable dip in joint public appearances by Tom and Katie. They really do seem to have been living separate lives for a while. It’s sad. It’s sad for Suri and it’s sad for Tom and for Katie. But I have high hopes that Katie finally stood up for herself and refused to be audited one more time. Don’t you?

UPDATE: TMZ got a statement from Katie’s lawyer, Jonathan Wolfe: “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.” Katie’s dad is a divorce lawyer too, and it’s believed that Tom and Katie did have a pre-nup.

UPDATE (From Bedhead): This divorce is going to get ugly, but it’s for a good cause; that is, the liberation of Suri from Scientology’s clutches. TMZ reports that Tom was “blindsided” by the divorce filing, and (more importantly) Katie has filed for sole custody of Suri:

Katie Holmes is the one who filed for divorce and Tom Cruise was “blindsided” by Katie’s legal move … TMZ has learned.

We know Katie filed the divorce docs in New York on June 28, citing “irreconcilable differences.” She is asking for sole legal custody and “primary residential custody” of the couple’s 6-year-old daughter, Suri.

We also know Katie is asking for a “suitable amount” of child support.

Katie also asks for a division of property in her divorce docs, although we know there was a significant prenup that is based on California law. Katie makes no mention of the prenup in her filing.

We’re told Tom “did not see this coming.” We’re told there is some “nastiness” here, evidenced by Katie’s move to get sole legal custody.

Obviously, Katie saw what happened to Nicole’s relationship with Isabella and Connor after divorcing Tom, and she’s going to do anything in her power to prevent history from repeating itself. Good for Katie! I didn’t know she had it in her.

Adele is pregnant with her first child, baby-daddy is Simon Konecki

Posted: 29 Jun 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Late last year, as she was recovering from vocal cord surgery, Adele became loved up with a man named Simon Konecki. Details are sparse and often contradictory about Simon – I know he’s a big bear of a man, I know he’s 14 years older than Adele (she’s 24), I know he’s well-educated and I’m pretty sure he’s got some family money. There’s also some evidence to suggest that Simon is married, but estranged from his wife, although it’s unclear whether he’s really divorced or what’s going on. Adele claimed on her blog a few months ago that Simon is totally divorced, although… I don’t know, I think the UK tabloids would have been able to find some documentation on that, you know?

Anyway, Adele and Simon are now expecting their first child. Sketchy? Or is it simply a joyful occasion and I’m being a horrible person? I love Adele. I want to protect her. I want Simon to not be a d-bag.

Im delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together. I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we're over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx

[Via Adele's blog]

Obviously, this is going to affect Adele’s career. She was playing with some back and forth rumors about when she would put out a new album – sometimes she said it would be years, sometimes she said it would be months. My guess is that she’s going to be taking a nice long break to focus on her pregnancy and then the baby. And then maybe we’ll be lucky to get an album from her in three years. I’m happy for her, truly, but I NEED more Adele!

Prince William isn’t giving the Middletons any money, People’s royal source claims

Posted: 29 Jun 2012 05:26 AM PDT

I don't know what to make of this. Us Weekly reported earlier this week that William was going to be dipping into his inheritance (left to him by his late mother) to help fund a new estate for his in-laws, Carole and Michael Middleton. The situation gave me a bad feeling, like the Middletons were playing a long con that was slowly paying off. I should note too that Us Weekly didn't start the rumor/story – it was widely reported in the British press, both tabloid and legit. The Telegraph (one of the more respected papers) spoke to one of William's friends, who said, "William regards them as family and is always keen to help, in any way he can." The Telegraph also noted that the Middletons were "close to closing" on the new manor and they hadn't even put their old estate on the market yet. The paper also noted that the manor comes with "outbuildings" which the Middletons were looking to convert into "accommodation for the protection officers who accompany the Duke and Duchess when they visit." Except none of it is true? Maybe. Well, I do think the Middletons are buying this manor, but People Magazine claims William isn't helping them out:

His late mother Princess Diana may have left him more than $16 million for his 30th birthday last week, but Prince William is not about to dip into the fortune – at least, not to buy a home for himself and wife Kate.

And, despite some reports to the contrary, he also has no plans to help his in-laws, Michael and Carole Middleton, buy their $7 million dream manor house in Bucklebury, about 55 miles west of London.

With their purchase of the seven-bedroom property, complete with tennis court on its 18 acres, set to be completed, a royal source tells PEOPLE it is not true William is helping to fund any of it.

The source does say that William and Kate, also 30, are happy with their current living arrangements, which has them living in a four-bedroom house on Anglesey in north Wales and a small cottage at Kensington Palace.

“They have two residences in Wales and Kensington Palace, and that is not about to change,” says the source.

Still, the royal couple will have to wait some time to forge ahead with moving into their more upscale digs at Kensington Palace. Surveyors and other experts are not able to get to go into apartment 1A (former home to the Queen’s sister, the late Princess Margaret) until September.

After that comes the long process of refashioning the palace and decorating it to the couple’s specifications.

[From People]

I don't understand that non-specific denial – "They have two residences in Wales and Kensington Palace, and that is not about to change." No one said that William and Kate were helping the Middletons buy the property because they (Will and Kate) wanted to live there. William isn't buying a residence for HIMSELF. This story remains very sketchy, I think.

More royal news… sort of. There's a British artist named Bambi who made a "stencil on canvas" art piece of William and Kate. I'm including a photo of the piece below – it shows Will and Kate on the day of their engagement announcement, and Bambi has included the words, "A bit like marmite." Well, the work of art was just sold… to Brad Pitt. Apparently, Brad paid thousands of dollars for it. Brad loves the modern stuff, and he reportedly loves Bambi too – he allegedly bought other Bambi pieces of The Queen and Amy Winehouse too.
