Phillip Seymour Hoffman cast as Plutarch in ‘Catching Fire’: great pick, right?

Posted: 09 Jul 2012 08:43 AM PDT

Phillip Seymour Hoffman

The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, is down to the wire in terms of casting with shooting set to begin this fall and several key roles still technically up for grabs. There’s still been no firm decision for the part of Finnick Odair, but we definitely know it won’t be Robert Pattinson, and Garrett Hedlund is still very much a possibility. As for Johanna Mason, Mia Wasikowska and Zoe Aggeliki have been floated as candidates, but it looks like Jenna Malone is currently the front runner for that role. Now at least we have some (mostly) definite news about the very important part of Plutarch Heavensbee, the replacement Head Gamemaker who — if he’s lucky — will avoid the same fate as Seneca Crane. In all likelihood, Phillip Seymour Hoffman (who a lot of people were hoping would have played Haymitch Abernathy, but I think Woody Harrelson was perfect in the first movie) will play Plutarch. Here’s a mildly spoiler-laden announcement from E! Online, who says that the offer was made and has now been accepted:

The odds are definitely in Philip Seymour Hoffman’s favor!

Sources tell E! News exclusively that the Oscar winner has signed on to play Plutarch Heavensbee in Catching Fire, the much anticipated second movie in the Hunger Games trilogy.

“The deal was made right before the Fourth of July holiday,” one source said.

Lionsgate does not comment on casting until something is official. An announcement about Hoffman is expected to be released any day now. The Hollywood Reporter reported that Hoffman, 44, was offered the role on June 11.

Heavensbee is the new Head Gamemaker who may (or may not) be more loyal to reigning champ Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) than the diabolical President Snow (Donald Sutherland).

Catching Fire is set to start shooting in the fall with director Francis Lawrence replacing Gary Ross.

Hoffman was most recently seen on Broadway with The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield in the hit revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of Salesman.

[From E! Online]

Speaking of Phillip Seymour Hoffman (and for some reason, I always like to type his full name when possible), Kaiser thinks that the marketing for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master “is going to have to be very, very careful” in light of all of the new information about CO$ being stirred up by the Katie Holmes-Tom Cruise divorce proceedings. I definitely agree, but at this point, the movie’s two excellent trailers have already set the stage, and there’s no turning back. It’s fairly obvious (especially from the stunning impression of L. Ron Hubbard on the part of Phillip Seymour Hoffman himself) that this movie is about Scientology. Hell, there probably doesn’t even need to be any more marketing of this movie at all aside from the odd poster. The crazy, damage-control antics of the CO$ will sell this movie on their own!

Colin Farrell look buff & clean for Paris ‘Total Recall’ photo call: would you hit it?

Posted: 09 Jul 2012 08:28 AM PDT

It's slower than slow and deader than dead today, so I hope you enjoy these new Colin Farrell photos just because they're basically the only new photos worth covering. Colin is in Paris, and this is the first of many international photo calls for Total Recall, which comes out on August 3rd – the Dark Knight Rises comes out on July 20, two weeks beforehand. Will TDKR still be the #1 film two weeks after its release? Probably. But it doesn't follow that just because everyone will still be going to see TDKR that no one will see Total Recall. I do think Total Recall will probably make some major money. But will it be enough? Enough to prove that Colin Farrell is a leading man who can deliver a box office? I don't know.

You know what's surprising? I can't find any new Colin interviews. I wonder if he's going to appear on any of the August covers of any men's magazines? He shares the latest cover of Maxim with Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel, but he barely says a word in the "interview" (he does say his favorite word is "bollocks"). Does Colin not do longer magazine confessionals anymore? He seems very press-shy these days, for no real reason – I mean, he's very well-spoken and he's not a crazy alcoholic or drug-user these days, and he seems super-professional. Let him do some interviews, for the love of God.

Anyway, Colin is looking really good to me in these photos. He looks so good in blue. I want him to have more career success, and not just in a succession of weirdly-timed remakes. Give this dude some original material. Give him a good drama!

Here's one of the trailers for Total Recall:

Brad Pitt’s brother Doug talks about their mom’s anti-gay-marriage letter

Posted: 09 Jul 2012 07:52 AM PDT

Brad Pitt's brother Doug Pitt was on the Today Show this morning to promote his new gig as the spokesperson for Virgin Mobile. I'll get to that in a moment… but let's talk about the Family Pitt and Doug's reaction to his mother, Jane Pitt, and her letter to the editor to a Missouri newspaper. We talked about Jane's letter last week, and many of us were slightly taken aback by just how conservative she is. Matt Lauer asked Doug about it, and Doug said, "You know, I think moms and dads and kids agree to disagree all over the world. So why would our family be any different? There can be healthy discussion when people disagree with you. The bad thing is when it turns to venom and negativity, and we don't have that in our family. It's open discussion. We can learn from each other and, if anything, it solidifies your point. Or maybe you learn something." Nice. Here's the video:

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I'mn also including Doug Pitt's Virgin Mobile commercial below. It's actually really cute – Doug Pitt is such a dork! I mean that in a nice way. He seems so… normal. Doug told Lauer that Brad advised him to do the ad, and Brad finds it "hilarious". The Pitt boys do seem very tight, don't they?

Michael Fassbender will star & produce film based on game ‘Assassin’s Creed’

Posted: 09 Jul 2012 07:10 AM PDT

These are some shots from Michael Fassbender's appearance on the June cover of GQ France. It looks like a completely different photo shoot from Michael's GQ US shoot. A lot of you have been wondering why I haven't been writing about Michael lately – it's because there really isn't that much new information about him now that the Prometheus publicity tour is over. I think he's in Louisiana right now, working on Twelve Years a Slave with Steve McQueen (and Brad Pitt, Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor). He hasn't been giving interviews and he hasn't done any new photo shoots. It's very sad to think that we'll have no big Fassbender news for months and months, right? Because he doesn't have anything else coming out until NEXT YEAR! *sob*

So let's say a quiet prayer that Michael's personal life gets exciting – like, he gets someone pregnant, or he finally makes his way to Virginia to declare his love to me (or both of those things!!!) – so I don't have to keep on finding stuff like this to cover. Because I have no idea what I'm talking about here – I'm not a gamer. I have no idea about any of this. Michael Fassbender might be starring and producing a film "adaptation" of the video game Assassin's Creed…?

Michael Fassbender will star in and co-produce “Assassin’s Creed,” the bigscreen adaptation of Ubisoft’s videogame franchise, through his DMC Film. While Fassbender’s profile has risen with roles in “X-Men: First Class,” “Shame,” “Haywire,” “Prometheus,” and will next be seen in “The Counselor” and “Twelve Years a Slave,” thesp also has spent the past year developing films with Conor McCaughan. Together, they produced the short “Pitch Black Heist.”

“Assassin’s Creed” is the duo’s most high-profile project, given that the game is Ubisoft’s biggest franchise, selling over 30 million units since 2007. A third “Assassin’s Creed” game bows Oct. 30 and is set during the American Revolution. First two take place during the Crusades and Renaissance.

Plot revolves around a man who learns his ancestors were trained assassins after he is kidnapped by a secret org with ties to the Knights Templar, and sent back in time to retrieve historical artifacts.

“Michael Fassbender was our first choice” to play the franchise’s iconic hooded hero, said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Paris-based Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”

Last fall, Ubisoft was in talks with Sony to develop a series of “Assassin’s” pics (Daily Variety, Oct. 20, 2011). But the companies have since put negotiations on hold.

Ubisoft execs now plan to stick to their initial plan and develop the film independently in order to maintain greater creative control. Last year, Ubisoft invested in launching UMP, headed by Baronnet, former CEO of Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp, to adapt the company’s games into films, TV shows and digital projects.

While Sony could still wind up distribing the films, UMP will package the project with a writer and director before resuming talks with the studio.

“We’re open to re-discuss with the key studios once the production package is finalized,” Baronnet told Variety.

[From Variety]

It's all Greek to me. I guess I'm excited to hear that Fassy could be signing on to a new movie, and that the movie will probably be a big-budget action-adventure type thing, because he really doesn't do those kinds of films all that often. I guess you could count X-Men: First Class in there…? Fassy was wonderful in that. He's good at action-drama, and he's very fit and athletic. Physically and talent-wise, I think he's up for this. But is it a good project? I don't know. You tell me.

Scientologists put a call out to troll the Internet, and they’ve trolled us too (update)

Posted: 09 Jul 2012 05:00 AM PDT

Several of you emailed this story to us as a tip on Friday and we’re sorry for not getting to it until now. I’m overseas for the summer and with the time difference I didn’t hear about this story until after 5pm. (Do you work after 5 on Friday? I try to avoid it at all costs.) More than that, though, I wanted to take the time to look over our history here both with comment reports that may have come from Cos and with commenters that are obvious plants from Scientology. We have a few very clear-cut examples where they’ve commented, and a few obvious examples where they’ve reported comments as abuse. I’ll include some of those below. There are of course examples where Cos people seemed to be trolling the comments, and you’ve pointed it out in the threads. I’ve gone over several commenters’ history with us, and if they’re plants it’s hard to tell. The jury is out with some of them, although I wouldn’t doubt that they’re getting more sophisticated.

It’s worth noting that Scientologists have been monitoring the site since before the latest news about the TomKat divorce. Around mid February, people starting reporting mildly critical comments against Tom Cruise as abuse. (Someone reported these two comments making fun of Cruise’s height, writing that they were “crude.”) This was before the scandals broke about John Travolta, but after the Enquirer had run stories about Travolta’s behavior. So they’ve been paying attention and trying to monitor Internet chatter. We know that Scientologists have worked to have critical sites shut down, that they’ve had YouTube accounts closed that dared criticize the cult, and they’ve tried to stalk people who dared speak out against them. The criticism is getting too big for them now, and they’re now desperately trying to ask their members to report comments on blogs that reflect negatively on them. How lame. Here’s the story, from high-ranking defector Mark Rathbun’s blog:

The following is a write up posted by an Office of Special Affairs (dirty tricks and propaganda arm of Scientology Inc.) operative on how to counter free speech on the internet. It is posted currently with specific reference to those commenting on the break up of Tom Cruise and Katies Holmes and Scientology Inc's role in the affair. The recipient Ray McKay is a well-known OSA operative. "Razzline members" refers to members of a corporate Scientologist on line collective. When will David Miscavige (supreme leader of corporate Scientology and Tom Cruise's best man) ever learn that attempts to suppress communication and expression only make more news than the news he attempts to censor?

Subject: RE: Simple hatting on how to fight back on the internet and Stand Up For Your Religion

Dear Razz Line members,

I am not a big fan of media, but you may have glanced the news of the split between TC and Holmes and all the speculations around. While this is a personal matter, when people start to bring our religion into the middle and a bunch of uninformed people start to spread false datum, rumors and defame our religion it became a matter that does affect my Dynamics and I believe that affects yours as well.

Well, I am not somebody that I am going to simply stand and watch a bunch of uninformed people putting my religion under the carpet. So here is a simple hatting on how you can causative fight back and at the same time stand up and defend our religion on the internet.

Microsoft or Google or any of these big online company require that each person when create an account with them follow a Code of Conduct when they are on the internet. If there are abuse of such Code of Conduct, those website do actually invite you to report the matter to the Moderator — in other word, write the matter to Ethics.

These is where things can be turn around!

Here is a simple example on how to fight back abuse of the Code of Conduct that is happening within the Microsoft (MSN) website:

1. One of the Code of Conduct that Microsoft impose is to not "threatens, defames, degrades… an individual or group of individuals for any reason; including on the basis of age, gender, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, race, religion; or incites or encourages anyone else to do so.."

So is you go to MSN Now – What's Trending? you will see different articles about TC and Holmes split. The articles then ask for comment…. (Note: if the article does not show up anymore on the first page, go to the search bar and type 'Tom Cruise Divorce'… or a similar search. You want to go where the comment section is)

On each comment if you place your mouse over it,it show up on the bottom right a tag that say 'REPORT'.

2. Click the "Report" Tag and a small window show up. Click the tab "Send Note to Moderator"

3. Once you do that a new window show up and you can send a text of 100 character. You can write something like 'Violate Your Code of
Conduct'. "defames or degrades a group for any reason including on the basis of religion."

The above exact comment it fit.

4. Read the comment from people and pick the ones that fit the violation of the Code of Conduct.

5. Report the Violation!! That's it!! You are done.

6. Now rinse and repeat the same process from step 2 to 5..

Once you got the hang of it it get pretty fast and in one hour you can report of lots of these nonsense comment!

If is only one person (me) reporting these issues, the Moderator at Microsoft will not take the comment off. if you start to have 10 or 20 people reporting it, they are going to take this down.

LRH give an exact quote on the Price of Freedom that you find on Tape 1 – Transcript page 32 – The Genus of Dianetics and Scientology – ANATOMY OF THE HUMAN MIND CONGRESS. The same quote appear also in the Tech Dictionary under the Price of Freedom.

Ok – there you have it!! This simple hatting is something that you can use now for this or similar situations that may happen in the future.

Over to you!
Best
Daniel

[From Mark Rathbun's blog]

I googled “what is hatting Scientology,” and it’s “the training given to a person so that he or she can successfully perform the functions and produce the products of a specific job, duty or activity.” So this person is claiming she’s “hatting”/training followers by telling them how to report comments. Whatever.

As promised, here are the obvious comments from Scientologists as well as some comment reports. You know, there haven’t been that many. High end estimates put the number of current Scientologists at 50,000 worldwide. It’s not like they can control the whole Internet, although you know they’ve tried.

It's amazing how easily people are deceived by these gossip blogs. If you people would have seen the video of this same red carpet event, you'd realize that you've been had. There is nothing awkward about the kissing. A matter of fact, the paps asked John to kiss Kelly numerous times. You can get photos to match any bullshit story you want, with today's fast cameras. Gossip rags and blogs have had a grudge against John for years. They'd do anything to smear his name.Any logic thinking person can see this.

So, if this information posted above about this site is true, then how does the site, itself, get away with writing such trash and bigoted BS? Where is this so-called friendly and welcoming atmosphere? Where is their own banning of their own foolish bigotry in allowing this trash to be printed? There is nothing lighthearted at all about this article. It is snide, offensive and extremely slanted in that the author pretends to know about things obviously never understood at all, yet chooses to talk of them in the most derogatory manner.

"Celebitchy aims to be a friendly, welcoming site where people can discuss entertainment stories and current events in a lighthearted, safe environment without fear of harassment, excessive negativity, or bullying. Different opinions, backgrounds, ages, and nationalities are welcome here – hatred and bigotry are not.'

How about following your own rules of conduct in what you write? Bigotry includes religious bigotry, too!

'If you make racist or bigoted remarks, comment under multiple names, or wish death on anyone you will be banned.'

I know “Vern” is a Scientologist, because the “religious bigotry” angle is one the Cos pulls every time.

In terms of the comment reports, as solicited by that poorly-written email, we received a couple after this e-mail went out. Someone sent in abuse reports on these two comments mocking Cruise for his height and making fun of Scientology. They only wrote that the Scientology comment was “abusive.” One came in on July 5th and another yesterday, July 8th.

That’s all I could find that were obvious, although I believe there are more. It’s actually kind of pathetic when you think about it. I used to be scared of Scientology, considering how their most vocal protesters and enemies have met some very suspicious and questionable deaths, usually by unlikely “suicide.” The tide has turned, and it’s Scientology that’s running scared. It’s about time. There’s still plenty of work to be done though. The things we’ve heard about abuse and torture within the church have been chilling and I doubt they’ve stopped just because they’re under the microscope.

Update: we need your help blocking Scientology ads
Our ads are generated by Google Adsense, which creates them based on keywords. We’ve blocked many URLs from Scientology, but some are still slipping through. They keep creating new sites, the latest are defaming their detractors, and creating Adsense ads for them. If you see a Scientology ad on the site, please e-mail us at info@celebitchy.com with the exact URL. We can only block the ad based on the site name/URL. We already know about WhoisMarcHeadley.com and we’ve blocked that ridiculous and transparent site. It may take some time for the block to take effect though.

Katie Holmes is ‘dead set on custody of Suri,’ Tom is in ‘major crisis mode’

Posted: 09 Jul 2012 04:30 AM PDT

Katie Holmes Suri Cruise

Here are some new photos of Katie and Suri during their Sunday morning outing to Whole Foods in their Chelsea neighborhood. As we’ve already seen, Katie reeeally likes her Whole Foods, and it makes a lot of sense (as Kaiser has already pointed out) for her to stay visible on daily outings so that we know she’s still okay and that we should be alarmed if we don’t regularly see her (i.e., if the CO$ tries to nab her). In yesterday’s update, Kaiser also expressed her hope that Katie doesn’t give up any ground to Tom during their supposed calm” negotiations. Now here’s some good news from Us Weekly, who says that Katie is not giving up on anything when it comes to her demand for full legal custody of Suri. Once again — go Katie:

Katie Holmes Suri Cruise

For the past few days, legal teams for Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise have been working steadily in an attempt to reach a settlement for the divorcing stars, but make no mistake: Holmes, 33, is not about to cave when it comes to their little girl.

“She is dead set on keeping custody of Suri,” a Holmes source tells Us Weekly. The Romantics actress — whose future projects include the new film Molly (which she wrote) and a Holmes and Yang runway debut at New York Fashion Week this fall — filed for divorce from Cruise, 50, June 28, and asked for sole legal custody of daughter Suri, 6.

“Katie is not going to compromise on certain issues, all regarding Suri,” the source says. During their nearly six-year marriage, Holmes became increasingly uncomfortable with the bizarre rules and restrictions of Scientology — particularly with respect with how to raise and educate her only child with Cruise. “This is about protecting her daughter,” another source explained to Us.

While Holmes has been highly visible since the news broke, stepping out with Suri near their new NYC apartment nearly every day, Cruise has been M.I.A., reportedly holed up at his L.A.-area home.

[From Us Weekly]

Katie’s professional life also appears to be mirroring her personal one. She’s set to begin production next week on Molly, which Katie co-wrote and is co-producing and is about life as a single mother. Ahem.

Meanwhile and as Katie has enjoyed much of her first week of freedom in the public eye, Tom has stayed largely hidden. He has reportedly taken refuge in his Los Angeles home and is (allegedly) freaking out over not being in total command of the situation:

Cruise has lost control.

On Saturday, Katie Holmes spent her second consecutive marathon session at the midtown Manhattan offices of her attorney. And though estranged husband Tom Cruise has not been photographed in over a week, the superstar and his team “are in major crisis mode,” a source close to the Rock of Ages actor, 50, tells Us Weekly.

“Tom’s whole life . . . is being torn apart,” the source says of Cruise, who was blindsided when Holmes filed for divorce and full legal custody of six-year-old daughter Suri on June 28.

“He is on the phone with his lawyers 24/7,” the source explains, confirming that the Oscar nominee “is trying to hash this out” — custody, child support and property division — without going to court.

Cruise, whose loyalty to the Church of Scientology and its teachings became a sticking point in his nearly six year marriage to Holmes, “doesn’t want his entire life laid out for everyone to dissect anymore.”

[From Us Weekly]

Over the weekend, there was a story in the Mirror, which claimed that Katie and Tom briefly spoke on the phone (for the first time since the divorce filing) during one of the inevitable phone shufflings as Tom wished Suri a goodnight. A source insisted that the conversation was both “brief and civil.” This is certainly a better option for Katie than CO$ marriage counseling (as revealed in a recent recent account from the Running Scared blog) would have been, right?

Finally, here’s a nice gross-out sentiment with which to end this roundup — in a new article from the Mail, a former personal manager (and one time surrogate mother of sorts) of Tom’s, Eileen Berlin, says that she’s surprised that Tom’s marriage to Katie lasted five years because she knew from the very start that it was “doomed.” This conclusion was not based upon any up-close observations since she and Tom went their separate ways in 1983, but she recalls that Tom was very moody and that, at times, his anger would “boil up and explode … in a snap of your fingers.” She also describes how Tom, who lived with her for three months, would often parade around her apartment in a G-string, “flexing his biceps and admiring himself.” She also expresses no disbelief in Tom’s unwavering adherence to the CO$: “He didn’t believe in therapy but he obviously needed help. He just couldn't have a relationship and I think that was because you have to open yourself up. The world sees this good-looking guy, worth millions. I still just see this little boy.” And now that little boy bides his time by (presumably) throwing his lifts at ceilings during epic temper tantrums.

Was Mick Jagger obsessed with ‘hypnotic’ Angelina Jolie for years?

Posted: 09 Jul 2012 04:25 AM PDT

A few years ago, a couple of hacks wrote a few books about Angelina Jolie and her crazy sex life. Most of it read like either "The Villainess Jolie Attacks Men" OR "Angelina boned whoever she felt like boning." One of my favorites of her alleged lovers was Ralph Fiennes – several "sources" claimed that Angelina and Ralph had some kind of torrid booty call situation circa 2004. Another favorite? Some people claimed that Angelina and Mick Jagger had an affair circa 1997 (when he was married to Jerry Hall) and then again in 2004 (when Angelina was allegedly juggling Ralph, Jonny Lee Miller, Colin Farrell and Brad Pitt). On the whole, I've always believed that Angelina was sleeping with Jonny Lee Miller for years after their divorce – and I always found the idea of it hot (mostly because I think JLM is beautiful). I don't think she boned Ralph, but I enjoy the fan-fiction of that story. As for Mick… well… I can see how Angelina would be his type. But I can't see Angelina falling for it. But! Radar has a story about a new "tell-all" book about Mick Jagger, and this book claims Mick was obsessed with Angelina for years. Hm.

The hypnotic effect Angelina Jolie has on men is well documented but the fact that she drove one of rock's most notorious lady killers, Mick Jagger, to obsession and had him "virtually sobbing" over her is now being exposed in a new book.

Christopher Andersen reveals that the Rolling Stones frontman would constantly bombard Jolie with calls begging to see her and it was all encouraged by her mother Marcheline Bertrand.

Jagger fell for Jolie when she played a stripper in one of the band's music videos in 1997 and despite being married at the time to Jonny Lee Miller and having an affair with her Playing God co-star Timothy Hutton, Bertrand "loved Mick for Angie… and felt that he could teach her about fame," the late actress's friend Lauren Taines says in the book.

In excerpts of MICK: The Wild Life and Mad Genius of Jagger printed in The New York Daily News, the pouty-lipped singer went after Angelina hard and was infatuated by her wild side even admitting that, "She scares me a little. I like that."

At the time Angelina "used hard drugs, had a fondness for S&M and was a self-confessed cutter."

The tome reveals that the brunette beauty initially refused to return Mick's calls which did little to deter him and only served to make him pursue her more.

"Angelina, it's Mick. Will you please, please call me?" "Miss Jolie, why aren't you returning my calls?" "Angelina, I have got to speak to you. Call me," were some of the incredibly desperate message left.

The cat and mouse game continued between them for several years and Taines added that she was amazed at how Jolie was "messing with Mick's head" and he was "virtually sobbing" on the phone trying to get her to spend time with him.

Even when Mick was ending his marriage with Jerry Hall in 1999, he was still in hot pursuit of the now mother-of-six, and presented her with a $5,000 pair of earrings. The book alleges that by this stage Angelina was juggling Tim Hutton, future hubbie Billy Bob Thornton, Nicolas Cage and Russell Crowe.

[From Radar]

In 1999 she was boning BBT, Timothy Hutton, Nick Cage AND Russell Crowe? Good God! If Angelina managed to get with Russell Crowe circa 1999, that righteous bitch gets another slow-clap from me. 1999 Crowe = The Hottest He's Ever Been. I would love to think that Angelina hit it and quit it like a good girl. Anyway… as for the Mick rumors… I don't know. It could have happened. Considering it's coming from the Jagger side of things, I think it might be slightly more plausible. But the 1999 version of Angelina was kind of rough – she was still using pretty heavily back then, and she didn't really get clean until the next year. Do you think more of Angelina for not returning Mick's calls? I kind of do.

Kourtney Kardashian gives birth to baby girl Penelope Scotland Disick

Posted: 09 Jul 2012 04:22 AM PDT

It's baby time! I've been expecting this for a while – all of the knocked up celebrity women are going to be giving birth, all within a few days/weeks of each other. Over the weekend, it was Sienna Miller and now Kourtney Kardashian. You should keep your eye on Drew Barrymore too – I suspect she'll be giving birth shortly. Anyway, Kourtney and Scott Disick welcomed their second child together on Sunday, according to E! News. It was a little girl, and they named her Penelope Scotland Disick. Hm.

Look out, world: there’s an adorable new Kardashian to keep up with now! Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick have welcomed their second child—and first daughter—E! News has exclusively learned.

The baby girl was born early Sunday in Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and joins big brother Mason in the ever-expanding Kardashian-Disick household. So how did the birth go down? And, most importantly, what’s the cutie pie’s name?

Let’s say hello to Penelope Scotland Disick.

“Scott and I are overjoyed to welcome our precious angel Penelope Scotland Disick into our lives. We are forever blessed. Mommy and baby are resting comfortably,” Kourtney tells E! News.

The 33-year-old E! star had an all-natural birth, and her new mini-me tipped the scales at 7 pounds, 14 ounces.

“It was a great. She had an easy delivery,” matriarch Kris Jenner tells us. “[Penelope] is so cute. She looks just like Mason. She’s so beautiful. We are so happy.”

As it happens, this has been one highly anticipated birth (complete with a headline-grabbing false alarm), and not just among the fans. Kourtney and Scott announced the news of the impending stork delivery last November, and revealed that they were expecting their first daughter in February of this year (son Mason turned the big 0-2 in December).

In May, the family—along with Kim Kardashian’s beau, Kanye West—celebrated the baby-to-be with a femme-fueled, pink-themed baby shower. As for the million-dollar question: as Mason’s birth was must-see TV, are the proud new parents going to once again share with fans the miracle of life?

“I don’t know,” Kourtney said on the Tonight Show a few weeks ago. “We’re gonna film it again ourselves, and honestly, my experience last time was so peaceful and calm and everything you don’t see in the movies. And I really wanted to share that with people so they knew it doesn’t have to be a crazy screaming session.”

This time around, we’ll have to wait and see. While Kourtney said she and Scott planned on filming the birth, they would decide after the fact if they were going to go public with the footage. And something tells us that’s not their biggest priority at the moment.

Well, congrats. I don't hate the name Penelope at all. As for "Scotland" – eh. It's just a middle name, and I guess it was just to have "Scott" somewhere in there. Penelope Disick? Penny Disick? That's kind of cute. My mom – who watches the Kardashian shows – says that Scott has changed for the better over the past year, and that Kourtney has turned into an even bigger a—hole ("like her mother," my mom says). I have to admit, I'm kind of surprised that Scott has stuck around and I'm kind of surprised that Kourtney hasn't kicked him to the curb by now. And now there's another Kardashian girl in the mix! Mother of God.

Duchess Kate & Pippa Middleton watched Roger Federer win at Wimbledon

Posted: 09 Jul 2012 04:21 AM PDT

I'm sorry, British people, but I adore Roger Federer. I think he's elegant and gracious and one of the greatest athletes in the world. I know you guys are heartbroken that Federer won over your countryman Andy Murray yesterday at Wimbledon, but… I'm pretty happy that Federer won his seventh Wimbledon title, matching Pete Sampras. Roger Federer deserves to be discussed amongst the greatest tennis players of all time – does Andy Murray deserve the same? After he won, Federer said, "He [Murray] has done so well over the years and it [his tears] shows he cares so dearly about his tennis. He will win one grand slam at least. I hope so. It’s worked out here that I have played my best tennis in the semis and the final. I couldn’t be more happy. It feels so familiar and it’s a great moment. It’s amazing. It equals me with Pete who is my hero, and the world No1, they don’t get gifted to you." God, I love him.

Anyway, these are some photos from the match at Wimbledon yesterday. The prime minister David Cameron was there. As was Victoria and David Beckham. And the Duchess of Cambridge and her sister Pippa Middleton. We don't have a lot of "crowd shots" but we do have one photo per celebrity coupling, so enjoy. Duchess Kate wore a Joseph dress and jacket for the event – apparently, she's a big tennis fan, as is her sister. Kate wanted to be there to cheer on Andy Murray, and she – and the rest of the UK – were kind of heartbroken when Federer won.

By the way, William begged off coming to Wimbledon again, citing a "prior commitment". Guess what that commitment was? Going surfing with his brother and some friends in Cornwall. You can see some of the photos here. I don't get it – at all. What does William DO all day? And don't say "he's a helicopter pilot". When was the last time he worked?

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ wins the weekend (& Katy Perry crashes): did you see it?

Posted: 09 Jul 2012 04:10 AM PDT

Andrew Garfield

Apparently, a lot of you went and watched The Amazing Spider-Man over the weekend. Did you love it or not? Even though I really dig Emma Stone, I didn’t see it myself because Spidey has never appealed to me although I do admire his flexibility. Regardless of my hangups with the character, the movie (which broke the Tuesday opening record last week) pulled in an additional $140 over the weekend to bring its worldwide total to an estimated $341.2 million. That’s not too shabby for a man in tights.

Holdovers Ted and Brave claimed the second and third spots while Savages entered the fray in fourth place. The other wide-release newcomer, Katy Perry: Part of Me, landed at (ouch!) number eight with a mere $10.2 million. At least the budget was only $12 million, right? I reviewed the movie for Pajiba, and it wasn’t as bad as I imagined it would be, but it was still fairly insufferable. Here’s a box-office analysis from Deadline:

Andrew Garfield Emma Stone

The Amazing Spider-Man is an easy #1 with a $65M first weekend. That gives the 3D reboot a 6-day total of $140M through Sunday and $341.2M cume worldwide. The film opened last weekend in 13 countries and this weekend is open in a total of 70 territories. It grossed an estimated $129.1M this weekend, bringing the overseas cume to $201.6M. “In the world of relaunched franchises, this is a spectacular success by any measure,”Sony gushed. The film received an ‘A-’ Cinemascore “and that strong word of mouth is also supported by our own exit scores with very high definite recommend numbers across all demos,” All in all a nice haul, but only middling when it comes to top moneymakers for any first 6-day time period. Especially considering Spidey is Marvel’s most popular character. Little wonder that Sony is fast-tracking the next installment of its new trilogy with fresh villains and storylines that should spark more interest and box office in this too-soon reboot that was just a retread of the original origins saga.

The newest major studio film, Oliver Stone’s adult crime drama Savages, is looking like $16.1M for the weekend. That’s a better than expected opening for a violent ‘Hard R’ pic with no proven stars. As you know, Universal made the decision to move this R-rated actioner from the safe harbor of a September 28th release (where The Town, a similar R-rated crime film, performed so well in 2010) to this very crowded summer slot. As a result, Savages could only release on 2,627 screens. Dumb move? Those better-than-average trailers made this look like a perfect fall movie. But the studio felt midweek numbers would be better and Savages could counterprogram Ice Age 4 next weekend. On the other hand, audiences gave Savages only a ‘C+’ CinemaScore, which will result in poor word-of-mouth. Good thing it was made for only $45M.

Struggling is the $12M low budget Katy Perry’s Part Of Me which will do around $7.1M for its first weekend and $10.2M for its first 4 days in release. “I guess it will take 5 days to gross its budget,” a Paramount exec joked about the Insurge pic’s cold reception at the box office. Earth to Hollywood: no one cares about Katy beyond a handful of tween/teen girls. Not even Russell Brand anymore.

[From Deadline]

Blakc Lively won’t take kindly to having Savages described as a film “with no proven stars,” right? Well, it’s a true statement, especially with Taylor Kitsch and hit-and-miss Benicio Del Toro on board … along with John Travolta. Remember when Travolta used to really be a draw? Now he’s just known for (allegedly) grabbing masseuse butts and is finding himself downplayed in studio promotional materials. How sad.

As for Katy Perry, it’s nice to learn that her reign as pop princess might soon be coming to an end. Even with a small budget, $10.2 million over four days is pretty embarrassing considering that the Justin Bieber movie was made for $13 million and still managed to gross $29.5 million during its opening weekend. At this point, the Bieb is now more powerful than Katy, and he didn’t even bother to exploit an ex-husband during his movie. Give him time though. Give him time.
