Angelina Jolie is reportedly “angry” with Jane Pitt over Jane’s anti-gay letter

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 08:49 AM PDT

Last week, everybody went a little bit crazy over Brad Pitt's mom Jane. Jane Pitt had written a letter to the editor (for a Missouri newspaper) in which she extolled the virtues of Mitt Romney and bashed "Barack Hussein Obama — a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright's church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage." Considering Brad is a well-known and vocal liberal Democrat, some of us were surprised that his mom was SO conservative, even using the "dog-whistle" wording that many die-hard Republican operatives use. Brad did not issue any kind of statement about his mom's letter, and Brad's brother Doug was on the Today show this week, and Doug basically said, "Eh, families can disagree about politics without it being a thing, you know?"

So, obviously, Angelina Jolie is the devil. I mean, that's where this whole story is going! It was always going to end up there – no matter who does what or who says whatever, it's always going to end up with "… and Angelina is the devil." Star Magazine claims that Angelina is going to "confront" Jane about her political views, because, obviously.

Angelina isn't happy with Brad's mom Jane — and it's starting to hurt their relationship!

Angelina Jolie has never been BFFs with Brad Pitt's mom Jane, who reportedly still stays in touch with Brad's ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, but their relationship just took its coldest turn yet! Angelina is said to be "steaming mad" that Jane wrote a letter to The Springfield News-Ledger opposing gay marriage, and she wants her fiancé to step in.

"She has told Brad he must educate his mother," a source tells Star magazine, "but Brad is too much of a mama's boy."

But wait, it gets worse.

"If Brad won't do it, Angelina will have to take matters into her own hands and talk to Jane about how, as the mother of such a prominent celebrity, she shouldn't be writing letters that clash with her son's political opinions."

The source adds that an Angelina-Jane confrontation would be devastating — and could potentially end the couple's engagement:

"It'll eventually end up in a huge blowout, with Brad stuck in the middle."

[From Hollywood Life]

I really don't get it. Angelina rarely discusses her personal politics (I really think she's a neo-con), so why is everyone behaving like she's some strident, in-your-face liberal? As for the whole idea that Brad's mom should STFU because her son is a celebrity and a Democrat? That's just dumb. This was never about "Jane Pitt is not entitled to her political opinions and she shouldn't speak." She can hold whatever arch-conservative opinion she wants, and she can shout them from whatever rooftop she wants. Everyone else has a right to react to her opinions, though, which is something to keep in mind in these discussions. Freedom of speech works both ways – Jane Pitt thinks President Obama is an anti-prayer, "baby-killing" lover of all things homosexual. I think Jane Pitt is an ignorant wingnut. See? Freedom of speech. I'm sure Brad doesn't have the same opinions, and Angelina probably doesn't either, and maybe they'll say something, maybe they won't. My guess is that none of Jane's political thoughts came as any kind of SHOCK to their systems. Jane and Angelina seem genuinely close – and my guess is that when Angelina is with the Pitt family, they're just talking about babies and grandchildren and work, not politics.

Rihanna tweets booze photo after her grandma’s death: cut her a break?

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 08:45 AM PDT

Rihanna

Here are some photos of Rihanna and her grandmother’s funeral in Barbados. I know that, on most days, we speak of Rihanna in terms of her trashy behavior and very questionable attire. She also tends to talk a lot of smack on her Twitter page, but Rihanna often posts photos of her family (with whom she is very close) as well. So now those worlds are colliding after Rihanna’s beloved “GranGranDolly,” Clara Braithwaite, passed away. We’ve posted some photos of Rihanna with her Granny before, and it’s clear that the two had a special relationship. Now Rihanna is publicly mourning on Twitter as well:

Rihanna

Rihanna was in full mourning when she attended her beloved late grandmother’s funeral in Barbados. The singer looked visibly pained as she made her way to the ceremony sporting a simple black shift dress, with her jet black locks styled into a beehive.

The 24-year-old’s unique style still came across in the demure outfit as she donned a pair of heelless black shoes. With her head down and hair covering her made-up face, the pop star looked devastated when she was seen emerging from a chauffeured car.

She put on a brave face to perform at the Wireless Festival in London’s Hyde Park over the weekend. But as she prepared to attend Dolly’s funeral today, Rihanna was still clearly struggling with her death.

Drowning her sorrows and showing the strain, the star tweeted a picture of herself, make-up free and holding what appears to be a beer in her hand. With heavy bags under her eyes, the singer – who attended a memorial service for her grandmother in New York last week – looked absolutely exhausted in the snap.

Rihanna captioned the photograph: “I had to!!! Sorry granny,” clearly referring to Dolly.

[From Daily Mail]

At first, it seems so skeevy that the paps have attended the funeral of a pop star’s grandmother with intent to capitalize therein. However, it can also be argued that Rihanna invites such scrutiny when she posts photos of her holding a beer bottle while referencing her Granny. Obviously, Rihanna lives her life in a very public way — I just hope this tragic event doesn’t push her further down the spiral.

Rihanna

After the funeral, RiRi traded in her heels for some Chucks. I kind of love the look.

Did Nicole Kidman “offer support and help” to Katie Holmes under the radar?

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 08:03 AM PDT

Many of us have been wondering about Nicole Kidman along-side our interest and coverage of all things Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes. Allegedly, Nicole has been in hiding since Katie filed for divorce, and Nicole has issued no public statements. Nicole might even be avoiding her friends because she doesn't want to discuss anything. I theorized last week that Nicole – who made her own particular deal with Xenu, Tom and the CoS – would have to make a pro-Tom statement at some point if she was backed into a corner. Nic’s people have already had to come out and deny a story about Nicole allegedly telling Katie to “stay strong”! But the speedy divorce settlement between Tom and Katie has made that issue kind of a non-starter, so Nicole got to stay quiet. That doesn't mean that Nicole's PR people (doesn't she share a publicist with Jennifer Aniston?) aren't pushing a sympathetic version of Nicole to Us Weekly. That's how I'm reading Us Weekly's cover story this week – Team Kidman attaching itself to Katie Holmes's spectacular legal and PR moves. But is it true?

Katie Holmes has friends in high places — and that includes Nicole Kidman. As Holmes, 33, struggled and secretly plotted to end her marriage to Tom Cruise, she found a pillar of support in her husband’s second ex-wife, who divorced the actor in 2001.

“They’ve spoken over the last few weeks,” a confidante tells the new Us Weekly of Holmes and Kidman, 45. “Nicole has been supportive, saying she’s been through it too and to hang in there.”

(One way Holmes may have made those secret calls to Kidman? The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that the Romantics actress used a disposable cell phone provided by a pal to plot her divorce without the detection of Cruise and his team.)

It’s not a brand-new friendship either, the confidante says, telling Us that the women have been speaking since Holmes’ 2006 marriage to Cruise, 50. Kidman shares kids Isabella, 19, and Connor, 17, with Cruise, although much has been made of her estrangement from their kids.

“She has been a private friend not many people know about,” the source continues.

As Holmes reached the breaking point in her marriage to Cruise — and with mounting fears about daughter Suri — she reached out again to Kidman for advice. “Nicole offered her support and help,” the insider adds.

[From Us Weekly]

Seriously, do you see any of this happening? I'm not so sure. It's possible that Katie reached out to Nicole at some point this year to get Nicole's advice on how to bolt – but really, what did Nicole know about bolting? Tom dumped Nicole – not the other way around. And it really feels like Katie was trying to detach herself from everyone in Tom's orbit, and she wouldn't try to strike up a confidence with Nicole, a woman who might sell Katie out to Xenu. Basically, I think this whole think is Nicole trying to ride on Katie's coattails and Team Kidman trying to save face – because Nicole didn't fight Tom like Katie did. It will be interesting to see what the Murdoch press outlets have to say about all of this too.

Duchess Kate allegedly stopped having sex with William months ago

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 07:29 AM PDT

Way back, more than a year and a half ago, the tabloids were attempting to introduce Kate Middleton (then Prince William's fiancée) to the world. Those of us who were paying attention knew Kate, we knew how many times William had dumped her or screwed around on her, and we knew that she always took him back, no questions asked. But The Enquirer tried to convince us that Kate was playing an old game on William once she had gotten the ring – sources claimed that Kate stopped putting out, allegedly to make their wedding night special, but really because Kate didn't feel like exerting herself once she had gotten the ring. I referred to it as "closing down her biscuit factory" which, hilariously, some people thought "Oh, I didn't know Kate owned a literal biscuit factory."

Anyway, there's a new report suggesting that Kate has shut down her biscuit factory once again – allegedly, she hasn't put out in FOUR MONTHS. Which might go a long way in explaining A) why William seems to have less patience for his wife these days and B) why Kate has been flirting up a storm with Prince Harry.

Don't hold your breath for a Royal Baby. A source says William & Kate barely get to spend any time together!

Prince William and Kate Middleton's relationship may seem like it's straight out of a fairy tale, but according to a new report, the magic does not extend to their bedroom. Even when their travel schedules do allow for them to be in the same place at the same time, William's military duties usually get in the way.

"More often than not [for Kate], it's a case of off to bed for the night on her own while her husband is working," a source close to the couple tells Star magazine.

Another theory is that Kate doesn't want to get pregnant!

"My guess is that she doesn't want to spoil that gorgeous figure," Nicholas Davies, author of William: The Rebel Prince, believes.

[From Star Magazine via Hollywood Life]

I got the "four months" figure from HL's headline, by the way. I'm surprised that it's not mentioned in the story. Now, has Kate really cut William off? Is it all about his "work schedule" (even though he's done more partying and public events in the past two months than work)? Or does Kate not want to ruin her figure? Eh. I would bet that Kate is on The Pill or something, so it's not like she has to "cut him off" to ensure that she won't get pregnant. While I have my doubts about the accuracy of this story, I do wonder if Will and Kate's sex life is exciting or passionate or anything beyond rote at this point.

Katie Holmes used burner phones to throw Tom Cruise off the divorce trail

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 05:55 AM PDT

Of course, there are a million new Katie Holmes stories. It's Wednesday, the day the tabloids come out, so there's going to be a lot of Monday-morning-quarterbacking and post-settlement cleanup on Katie and Tom Cruise's divorce. Where should we start? Well, Katie got the cover of People Magazine again this week. I haven't seen all of the other tabloid covers, but I'm going to assume that she scored the cover of several (if not all) of the tabloids this week. Here's an excerpt from People Mag's "How Katie Took Control" cover story:

Katie Holmes knew she had to make a drastic change. The actress, 33, was increasingly unhappy in her five-year marriage to Tom Cruise as she realized “she no longer had the life she wanted, in terms of her career, her way of life, everything,” a source tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. So she took action – quickly.

“Once she decided to go, she was done,” says the source.

With help from her unflinching attorney father Martin, she orchestrated a secretive exit strategy that included moving into a new downtown Manhattan apartment, switching cell phones and keeping her megastar husband in the dark – until a bombshell phone call in which she broke the news to him.

“She knew she had to have everything locked down before she pulled the trigger,” says the source, “because there could be no wiggle room if she didn’t want this to turn into a long, drawn-out battle.”

The strategy worked, and on July 9 – just 11 days after Holmes revealed her divorce filing – lawyers on both sides announced they had reached a lightning-fast settlement that sources say gives Holmes what she wanted most: primary custody of their 6-year-old daughter Suri.

Cruise, 50, will have generous visitation rights.

The still-stunned actor “was a happy man and thought he had a happy life,” says another source. “He keeps asking, ‘What’s happening?’ “

[From People Magazine]

I really thought that the "switched out her phones" rumor had been discussed and confirmed last week, but several outlets are running with the story like it's completely new. The LA Times also has a "behind the scenes of Katie's escape" story, which you can read here. The LAT says Katie was using burner phones for all of her dealings over the past month, and she had secretly hired three law firms in three states to prepare for her legal fight – all without Tom knowing. The LAT also says that in the divorce/custody settlement, Katie is going to determine how Suri is educated, and Katie got guarantees that Tom and Xenu won't ever try to "alienate" Suri from her.

Let's see, what other news is there? Radar and The Enquirer say that the last time Tom and Katie were together – in Iceland several weeks ago – they probably weren't even staying in the same hotel suite. Apparently, Tom's bodyguards put tape on all of the hotel security cameras and no one has any idea if Katie and Tom stayed in the same luxe suite. Which… is that news?

One of my favorite stories this morning is from Page Six – I've been hearing stuff about Tom having "chemistry" with Olga Kurylenko for a few weeks, but I thought it was all just some counter-PR from Team Cruise, trying to make Tom look like a big, beefy heterosexual dude who might have a wandering eye and OF COURSE that's why Katie left Tom. Well, Page Six got a tip from Team Cruise that Tom and Olga have "a great deal of chemistry" as they work together on Oblivion, meaning Tommy was like, “Hey, baby, would you like to touch my e-meter?” They were photographed holding hands and looking smiley – while filming a scene. BUT! Team Olga pushed back against the rumors, letting it be known that Olga is definitely dating Danny Huston, and Danny Huston has been her boyfriend for a year or so and of course Olga would not be interested in Tom. Olga's rep even went on the record with Page Six: "Completely not true. She is dating Danny Huston. You are so going down the wrong path." No one wants a piece of Tommy. Poor Tommy.

Tom Cruise’s ex auditor: Scientology head Miscavige “obsessed” with Cruise

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 05:25 AM PDT

Yesterday we heard that Tom Cruise’s former auditor, an ex Scientologist and former second in command of the entire organization, Marty Rathbun, had predicted an early settlement in Cruise’s divorce. Rathbun had posted an entry to his blog on Sunday detailing the way Scientology head and close friend of Cruise’s, David Miscavige (shown above), regularly handled PR crises for the cult. This was their biggest to date, and Rathbun knew that a settlement was forthcoming and that Cruise would pay whatever it took to make it go away. He was right of course, and the way he called it all was kind of amazing.

Rathbun even predicted that Scientology would then play the victim and “make the media and their sources wrong for having allegedly jumped the gun to insinuate Scientology into the matter.” Lo and behold, Tom Cruise’s lawyer just issued a statement this morning that. “The Church of Scientology played absolutely NO ROLE in the divorce settlement talks at all. Period. The mere suggestion that the Church was involved in any element of the talks and ultimate settlement is categorically false. Anyone suggesting otherwise is just wrong.

This means that Rathbun called Tom Cruise’s divorce playbook ahead of time, down to each point. (You can read more on the Village Voice’s blog.) Kudos to him, really. It just goes to show how deep Cruise is involved with this cult and how he follows their guidance in all matters.

Rathbun just did a radio interview for political talk show host Michael Smerconish. He explained how the cult operates under David Miscavige, about Cruise’s position in Scientology, and about how Miscavige brought Cruise back into the fold after he was “out” of the cult during his marriage to Nicole Kidman. Rathbun also discussed the way that Scientologists harassed and stalked him daily for about a year after he left. I was so impressed with how calm and well spoken he was. You can listen to the interview here and I’ve transcribed some of it below. This guy sounded very intelligent and his story was fascinating.

On how Tom got enticed to come back into Scientology
It was just prior to that [2004] when I left the organization. I was Tom’s auditor, or Scientology counselor, for the last 6 or 8 years that I was there. I worked recovering him back to Scientology, he had about an 8-9 year period where he was… out of communication with Miscavige.

On how Miscavige was obsessed with Tom Cruise
One of the things that was really bothersome to me around 2004 when that award was bestowed [a Scientology "Freedom medal of valor award," video below] was just how much Miscavige was making it an obsession to become Tom’s best friend and to go into his circles and get into that celebrity high life of going over to Tom’s house on movie night to watch movies, going to his premieres, going to parties…. He had this obsession with the guy.

On if Miscavige wooed Tom to assist with recruitment
That was the organizational motivation, with him it was something beyond that. He’s very into power and image and he was very into Tom Cruise in particular. He loved to mingle with the celebrities, but Tom was his boy. Tom was his obsession.

On what auditing means in lay terms
I like to use this paradigm, the U2 song “Stuck in a Moment.” Auditing is simply a one-on-one counseling technique where the auditor directs the person’s attention towards incidents in his past… so that he frees his attention to the present and he wakes up spiritually.

There’s supposed to be absolute trust in order for the process to work.

On if he’ll ever reveal what Tom Cruise told him in auditing sessions
[No] There’s been many enticements for me to do otherwise. I posted on my blog an offer from the National Enquirer to give me $20,000 plus promotion for my book if I just disclose a few secrets, but I just won’t do it.

On how Scientologists stalked him for a year
Last year they spent nearly the entire year tracking every single literal footstep that my wife and I made. They had teams in our hometown, on our doorstep, any time we went somewhere there was teams of private investigators picking us up. We sort of broke the back of that through media exposure, but that went on for an entire year, 2011.

On why he left Scientology: violence and beatings
There’s been tremendous efforts by the Church of Scientology to suppress this information, but at the international base where Miscavige hangs out near Riverside, California, the highest levels of Scientology degenerated into this sort of culture of violence. Miscavige began beating people, punching people, physically punishing them to the point where he was requiring it of others. It was a widely spread practice at the international base.

One evening Miscavige made a show of beating up a close friend of mine and that was sort of the last snapping straw for me.

On if he’s disillusioned with Scientology’s management or their beliefs or both
I question everything, but I still find a lot of good in Scientology. I wrote a book called… What is Wrong with Scientology, and I break it down and try to differential for people between the religion, philosophy on one hand and the organization, Miscavige on the other hand. And I think that different ion had to be made…

One of the things the outside public has trouble grasping is one of the reasons people put up with it is they do get something out of it… I still think the philosophy has a lot to offer, but the abuses of the organization are way over the top.

On Xenu, thetans and the galactic confederacy story
Well you know, a lot of people are making an analogy of what’s going on in Scientology over the last three years with the reformation, because it’s essentially in a way we’re reforming the church of Scientology, but we’re following the path of the reformation… It’s to say, the Bible is not a monopoly. You don’t have to follow all this kooky, spooky liturgy to study the Bible and practice it the way you want to.

On if Scientology is a cult
The church of Scientology most absolutely is a cult and it was what provoked me to leave it. But when I left I never really doubted the benefits I got out of the auditing process and the study of the actual philosophy… I draw that line.

On independent Scientologists
There’s a burgeoning movement of independent Scientologists who find all these organizational policies and practices abusive… I just literally practice out of my house.

On Tom Cruise’s position in Scientology
Tom is what we call a public Scientologist, he’s not a staff member. The organization I was in… you sign a billion year contract to signify your commitment. That’s the priesthood. Tom is a parishioner.

On Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ divorce settlement
On Sunday I did a blog post where I predicted this would happen. They did it almost precisely… The amount of media attention that was focused on the Church of Scientology was just way too intense. It was clear to me they were going to have to punt and punt quick.

On if Cruise was pressured by Scientology to settle the divorce
I don’t think he was… I think it was a mutual thing. I think it was Miscavige and Tom making a decision [together]. I think he’s self-motivated and he’s in a complete alignment and thinks parallel with Miscavige now.

The violence and psychological abuse that Rathbun talks about were covered in a series of articles in the Tampa Bay Tribune which ran in 2009, we covered it at the time and you can read it here. At that time, Rathbun also claimed that Scientology coordinated Tom’s divorce from Nicole Kidman, declaring her an impediment to his commitment to Cos and encouraging Tom and Nicole’s split. Rathbun’s version of this story is consistent with at least two other ex-Scientologists who have spoken to the press, actor Jason Beghe and now ex Scientologist Nancy Many, who recently spoke to Radar Online. Nancy told Radar that “They had this wonderful anniversary then as far as I am concerned, he gets work done one on one and is told 'You've got to get back into the fold, Nicole is stopping you,' all this was manipulation.”

So according to at least three known Scientologists who have spoken on the record, Cruise was told to dump Nicole Kidman because Miscavige wanted him as his boy and Kidman wasn’t committed to the cult. I love that Katie was able to blindside him and get out on her own.

You can purchase Rathbun’s book, What is Wrong With Scientology, on Amazon.com. The image on the cover is of Scientologists coming over to Marty’s house to “bust” him, they call themselves “squirrel busters,” for practicing their religion outside of the cult. You can watch a video of that below. Marty loses his cool and takes their camera, but can you blame him?

The “Squirrel Busters,” aka Scientologists, visit Marty’s house to harass him.

Here’s Tom Cruise accepting the “Freedom Medal of Valor” Award in 2004, along with some segments of his Scientology promotional video:

Here are some new photos of Cruise on the set of Oblivion in June Lake, California yesterday. Got to keep up that action hero image. The Sun notes that he’s not wearing his wedding ring, but he’s on set it’s hard to tell if he’s taken it off for good. He is divorced now though.

Katie Holmes: “If something’s not okay, then I make it known, I will deal with things”

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 05:00 AM PDT

As we previewed last week, Elle Magazine hit the jackpot by giving Katie Holmes their August cover, and doing an interview just about six weeks before she filed for divorce. We had some of the early interview excerpts last week, and now Elle has released an additional image from their cover shoot, plus even more quotes. Here's some additional coverage:

Get ready for Katie Holmes 2.0. In mid-May, the Kennedys actress, 33, sat down with ELLE magazine for a revealing cover story interview for its August issue, which hits stands July 17. And, in new excerpts from the prescient sit-down — exclusive to Us Weekly — Holmes drops even more illuminating hints about her impending split from Tom Cruise and her planned reinvention.

(About a month and a half after the Holmes and Yang designer chatted with ELLE, she filed for divorce from Cruise, 50, after nearly six years of marriage; the former couple settled their divorce on Monday, with Holmes getting primary custody of their daughter Suri, 6.)

The former Dawson’s Creek star admits to ELLE that, as a younger woman, she struggled with her sexual confidence: “I always felt like a little girl before . . . I didn’t even know what sexy was.”

The secret to feeling sexy? “Anytime you feel good about yourself, you embody sexiness,” the soon-to-be-single Holmes advises. “It’s almost like a power or a confidence or a secret.”

Just as tantalizingly, Holmes alludes to her ability to cope and address problems — no matter how intimidating — with adversaries.

“If something’s not okay, then I make it known,” says the star. “I will deal with things . . . the way my mom taught us girls how to be. She stressed listen, learn, always be strong and be true to yourself.”

In previously released quotes from the interview, Holmes snapped when asked about the stigma of being “Mrs. Tom Cruise.”

“He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years,” she said of the Rock of Ages star. “I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that.”

Indeed, a source told Us on Monday shortly after news of Cruise and Holmes’ settlement: “She is . . . very happy. She can move on and finally live her life.”

[From Us Weekly]

The way she talks about her sexuality… it's making me wonder. Could it be… no. NO, of course not. Of course Katie Holmes didn't quietly set up some jumpoff on the sidelines. Of course she wasn't screwing around. Because if she was, wouldn't we have heard about it? Unless the dirt she had on Tom Cruise was just that damaging – so damaging that Team Cruise couldn't even fight back. Plus, what if Katie had fooled around on Tom? Wouldn't most of us give her an "Atta girl"? True, cheating is wrong. But isn't there a "Xenu Exception" in the cheating rules?

Anyway, Bedhead went through some of the rumored details of Tom and Katie's divorce settlement yesterday. By most accounts, Katie got primary custody of Suri and Tom is allowed visitation, although there are many rumors about "limitations" being put on Cruise's access to Suri. Something about no Xenu, no Xenu-tastic handlers, etc. Us Weekly had an exclusive yesterday with a "source close to Holmes" who said, "She won and is happy. Very happy. She can move on and finally live her life. [She] did this only for her daughter. That was all she cared about. [She] pulled it off brilliantly. She has her career back and her daughter. She will be a huge star now. . . This was all played so well. Katie is very happy with how it all came out.” Haha. Brag much? But seriously, Katie should be proud of herself. She pulled off a ballsy coup de grâce on her marriage and she came out of it A) With everything she wanted and B) With her public image better than before.

Meanwhile, people are starting to wonder/worry about Tom Cruise. What's next for him? Jennifer Love Hewitt? Probably not. LaineyGossip alluded to some intense auditing, which will probably involve David Miscavige in leather chaps with an e-meter clenched between his cheeks (don't you love that image?). But don't worry about Tom too much – as Rolling Stone hilariously/eerily points out, within the Church of Scientology, Tom Cruise is a God. Or a demi-god. Okay, he has GOD-like powers. You should just read this story – Tommy is an Operating Thetan who has traveled the Bridge to Total Freedom and has achieved a "rarefied sense of enlightenment." Scientologists believe Tom can move sh-t with his mind and telepathically communicate with humans and animals. FOR REAL.

PETA slams model Alessandra Ambrosio for dyeing her puppy

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 04:43 AM PDT

These photos are notable for two reasons. One, Alessandra Ambrosio just gave birth on May 7th, only two months ago. And her body has already bounced back to "bangin'". The second reason why these photos are notable: Alessandra has a tiny little dog, who you can see in these photos. Her puppy is dyed purple and pink. As you can imagine, PETA had a sh-t fit.

It looks like this Angel is barking up the wrong tree.

Alessandra Ambrosio is used to turning heads every time she steps out on the street, but it seems the Victoria’s Secret supermodel drew the wrong kind of attention when she took her dip-dyed pink and purple pooch for a walk in Malibu on Thursday.

The brunette beauty and mom of two came under fire from animal rights advocates PETA after photographers snapped photos of Ambrosio carrying her fashion-forward dog to a lunch date with long-time fiance Jamie Mazur.

“What most people don’t know is that dyeing a companion animal’s fur can cause the animal stress and can lead to complications or allergic reactions that endanger the animal’s health.” PETA said in a statement.

“Our dogs and cats love us regardless of how we look; why not extend the same kindness to them?” the statement said.

But if the model, 31, was concerned about her furry friend, she didn’t show it.

[From The NYDN]

PETA also had a fit when Emma Watson was seen out with what turned out to be a friend's pink-dyed puppy. Basically, PETA's latest mission in life is yelling about people dyeing their dogs. I don't really have a strong opinion either way – I think dyeing a dog is dumb, for sure, but I'll buy that it's not harmful to the dog if the owner makes sure that the dye is organic. I have to admit, though – Alessandra's puppy is EXTREMELY cute. I'm not even a small-dog person and I want to cuddle this puppy. Is it because the puppy is pink and purple? Not really. This puppy just has a really sweet face.

Jane Fonda: “At 74, I have never had such a fulfilling sex life”

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 04:40 AM PDT

I go back and forth on Jane Fonda. On one side, I want to applaud her for discussing an issue that most older ladies won't discuss publicly: sex after a certain age. On the other side, Jane Fonda exhausts me and I wonder who she really IS if she's not extolling her own sexuality and her body. Anyway, Jane is 74 years old and she's got an active sex life. Her boyfriend, Richard Perry, is 70. And once Jane got her knee replaced, her life got really awesome. That's the phrasing she uses too – like having two good knees was her prerequisite for awesome sex. Ew. I just got the image. Ugh. I mean, go Jane…?

Like Rihanna, Jane Fonda found love in a hopeless place. In an interview with the U.K.’s The Sun, the screen legend explains how she discovered “true intimacy” with her boyfriend, Richard Perry, while recovering from knee replacement surgery in June 2009.

“When I had my knee replaced just over two and a half years ago, I found a lover. His name is Richard Perry, he is 70 and he is a music producer,” Fonda says. “When I moved in with him I was still using crutches; we haven’t been apart since.”

Fonda believes Perry — who was married to actress Rebecca Broussard, 49, from 1987-1988 — has given her what previous lovers never could.

“The only thing I have never known is true intimacy with a man,” says Fonda, whose ex-husbands include director Roger Vadim (1965-1973), politician Tom Hayden (1973-1989) and media mogul Ted Turner (1991-2001). “I absolutely wanted to discover that before dying. It has happened with Richard. I feel totally secure with him. Often, when we make love, I see him as he was 30 years ago.”

According to the Peace, Love and Misunderstanding actress, “At 74, I have never had such a fulfilling sex life. When I was young I had so many inhibitions — I didn’t know what I desired.”

If true, more power to her. I was trying to think of some older dudes I wouldn't mind going to bed with… let's see. Pres. Bill Clinton, age 65. Jack Nicholson, age 75. Robert DeNiro, age 68. There are totally more, and go ahead and judge me. I wouldn't have any problems going to bed with a man forty years older than me (providing he was Jack Nicholson). So why is there this stigma with older ladies and sex? We shouldn't judge. I shouldn't judge.

I will judge Jane's lover, though. He looks like the love child of Robert Goulet and John Waters.

Cumberbatch on his Cumberbitches: ‘I worry about what it says for feminism’

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 04:28 AM PDT

I never really paid much attention to what "female fans of Benedict Cumberbatch" called themselves/ourselves. I thought "Cumberbitch" was a default name for us, used along-side monikers like "Cumbersluts" and "Cumbergirls" and "The 'Batched." But it seems that "Cumberbitches" is a real thing, and they even have a Twitter for all things Cumber-obsessed. Benedict Cumberbatch's female fanbase of enthralled Cumberbitches has gotten so big that Benedict even gets asked about in interviews now. AND HE ANSWERS. Not only does he talk about The Cumberbitches, but he wonders aloud if one can be a self-proclaimed "Cumberbitch" and a "feminist". Oh, Cumby. I love you. Some highlights from Cumby's interview with the August issue of InStyle UK:

On The Cumberbitches: "I wish my 15-year-old self had known about my allure to the opposite sex! It’s flattering, though I worry about what it says for feminism, it’s quite a pejorative term… Cumberbabes might be better.”

Not being comfortable with his fame: "I’m quite sensitive to people noticing me. There are times when I’m relaxed, then others when it does make me self-conscious. I’m not complaining. It’s all come from good things.”

Doing voice work for The Simpsons: “I was at a meeting yesterday in the same place The Simpsons is recorded and heard there was a part going in an episode… I said, ‘I hate to muscle in here, guys, but could I record it?’ Next thing, I’m standing in a room with all those famous voices: Bart, Marge, Homer, Lisa…”

Leaving LA after a four month shoot for Star Trek 2: “I’ve got post-movie depression. I had my last sunset yesterday, so I strolled down the beach and ate a sarnie on the sand dunes.” LA life, he says, has been “surprisingly mellow”, his only complaint being that there aren’t enough libraries. “The members’ clubs here are great fun in the evening, but by day, they’re awfully big and brassy; everyone’s busy rubber-necking so it’s not very private.”

Working in Hollywood versus "small" English stuff: “[The fans] see it as a corrupting golden handshake… [but] I like treating every job as the first time and to do that, I’ll vary the work, so I’ll be a knucklehead and run around with girls and guns, then I’ll slow it down and do something totally different, like Parade’s End."

Success coming later for him: “I’m glad it all came when it did. I think it’s wonderful that you can go from 19-year-old unknown to superstardom, but for me, having a slightly harder time of it to begin with, doing a lot of theatre work and with every penny counting, means I’m humbled by the reality of the profession”. Though had he achieved success early, he doubts he’d have gone off the rails. “I grew up surrounded by professional actors, so it stood me in good stead. I know what a sin it is to be late, I’m really hot on those sorts of things,” he says, “It’s very easy to burn bridges and many actors don’t think it matters, but it does, because people end up saying, ‘Yeah, he’s great, but you don’t want to work with him because he’s a pain in the ass!’”

He's currently single, and he's sort of enjoying being a bachelor: “Yes and no. I have a sort of clock ticking. I’d really like to be a dad before I’m 40, but at the same time, I’m in this weird territory where people know me before I know them.”

His actor parents love his success: “They’re over the moon,” he says, his voice softening. “I flew them out here recently and they came to see me on the Star Trek set. All the stuff that’s happening to me is useless unless you can share it with someone you know. And who better to have by your side than family?”

Sigh… even though I don't think it's anti-feminist (or full-blown misogynistic) for women to refer to themselves as "bitches" or "Cumberbitches" (or "Fassbitches" or "Gandybitches" etc), I do love it when a man talks about feminism. I always loved Jon Hamm because, you know, The Hamm Dong and all of that. But when Hamm started talking about the sisterhood and "sisters doing it for themselves" and really coming out as a strident feminist, my love knew no bounds. I'm starting to feel the same pangs for Cumby.

Oh, and here's a Cumby interview from a few months ago where Cumby talked about The Cumberbitches:
