Is Johnny Depp trying to reconcile with Vanessa during a family vacation? Posted: 22 Jul 2012 07:00 AM PDT Johnny Depp has gotten an easy ride the past few weeks. Immediately before Katie Holmes ripped out Xenu's heart (and ATE it), Depp and Vanessa Paradis's split was all we could talk about. What went wrong? Did he cheat? Is he a drunk going through a mid-life crisis? Did Vanessa "nag" him into leaving? Did she always want more, more, MORE? Well, it seems like Team Depp's take was "Johnny had to leave Vanessa because she was driving him crazy because she was so demanding and crazy, and that's why he had to sleep with Amber Heard." Team Paradis… well, Vanessa didn't have much to say. But I'm assuming her side of the story was something along the lines of "We have two children together and you're going to leave the relationship like this?" Since their split left the tabloid covers, it seems like Depp and Paradis have been reorganizing and reviewing everything. Johnny flew to France last week, and now the UK tabloids claim that he's enjoying a "family vacation" with his kids AND with Vanessa. So now they could be getting back together?
Eh. I mean, it's great that they can still enjoy each other's company and that a family vacation doesn't have to end in hair-pulling, tears and retribution. But I think reconciliation probably isn't in the works…? It's more likely (in my mind) that Vanessa and Johnny are just trying to act like adults and spend some quality time with their kids. But… if Vanessa does end up taking him back, that would be very interesting, wouldn't it? |
Brandi Glanville in an LBD at a RHOBH boutique party: lovely or busted? Posted: 22 Jul 2012 06:28 AM PDT These are some photos from last night's "pre-opening party for Kyle Richards' new Beverly Hills Boutique". I didn't know Kyle was a boutique owner, nor did I know that boutiques get "pre-opening parties" – wouldn't it just be an opening party? I guess the boutique isn't ready, but they just decided to throw a party anyway. As you can see, Brandi Glanville was in attendance. She's really the only one I have any interest in, so she gets to be the headliner of this little photo set. I think Brandi looks pretty good here – I would style her differently, but she's an attractive woman with a nice figure. I would fluff up her hair, maybe cut off a few inches and go a couple of shades darker with the "honey/caramel" tones. In any case, I expect to see LeAnn Rimes in this whole outfit in just a few weeks. Count on it! As for any Brandi news – she was tweeting about going on a second date with a dude a few days ago, but a day later she tweeted, "No new hot man I swear, just single and dating and very happy and busy." She sounds like she doing well. My mom really likes Kyle and although I don't watch RHOBH, my general impression of Kyle is that she's a grown-up Mean Girl. Tell me I'm wrong, I don't mind. I've been looking through the Camille Grammer photos trying to figure out if she actually chopped off her hair or if it's just pulled back. I think it's just pulled back. But she should seriously try a shorter, choppier look – it kind of suits her. More photos… is it just me or do all of these ladies have ridiculous Botox-faces? |
Kristen Stewart went golfing in Malibu with her dad: uncharacteristic or adorable? Posted: 22 Jul 2012 06:20 AM PDT These are literally the most bizarre photos I've ever come across. Did you know Kristen Stewart is a golfer? I did not. I'm sure the K-Stew super-fans will yell at me for not knowing that. Look, she's even got a little golfing glove! That's not what they're called, though, right? They're called… driving gloves? I'm not down with the lingo. There was a glove. It was worn. Let's leave it at that. Kristen was photographed at the Malibu Golf Club on Friday. Fame Pictures says she was golfing with a "friend" although Us Weekly says for sure she was her dad. I suspect that she probably was with her dad – golfing seems like it's more of a father-daughter outing than a two-girls outing, although I'm sure that statement will get the "OMG, FEMINISM! GOLF!!!" crowd riled up. I just don't think a self-styled hipster girl of 22 would choose to golf with a friend, but she would totally go with her dad. Kristen didn't wear golf shoes either – she wore those Vibram FiveFingers shoes. I've been wondering about them for a while – I really, really want to try a pair on, but I've never had the chance. Do they feel weird if you have hyper-sensitive feet? Do they offer any kind of arch-support? Yes, I am an old fart. Don't say it. And in case you're a Twihard worried about the state of Sparkles and Kristen ("She's golfing because she's a lesbian and she's going to break Rob's heart and he'll be too devastated to even BREATHE!!!!!"), you should know that Kristen and Rob were spotted out and about on Thursday night in LA. They went to Hotel CafĂ© where they saw their friend Bobby Long play, and a source tells Us Weekly, “They were really mellow. They’re a cute couple.” |
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ cast pulls out of European promotion after massacre Posted: 22 Jul 2012 05:23 AM PDT As I said on Friday, we're not going to cover the hard-news aspects of the Colorado theater massacre and I'm definitely not going to spend any time on the POS shooter. But I will cover some aspects of the story that have to do with studio, the director and the actors involved. Warner Bros. canceled Friday's Paris premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, and I assumed (wrongly) that Warner Bros. would probably end up coming back to their set promotional schedule next week – I imagined that there were scheduled premieres all over Europe and perhaps in Russia and several in Asia as well. Well, Warner Bros has pulled all of the actors from France, and the actors were seen flying back to America on a private plane (owned by Warner Bros.). So… I guess promotion is over. Which is fine, really. A source tells People Magazine, "The cast was completely shocked and several – Anne and Marion [Cotillard], a couple of the men – were in tears. There was enormous, enormous sadness.” Warner Bros. is also withholding the box office numbers for their opening weekend until Monday – traditionally, studio executives would be bragging about every little movement at the box office, with press releases for the first 24 hours of release, then 48 hours, then on Sunday they would declare victory. Christian Bale released a statement on Saturday, saying: "Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.” And before that, late Friday, director Christopher Nolan issued a public statement about the massacre:
As public statements go, I think Nolan adequately and eloquently described his horror and his grief. I think what bothers Nolan – and incidentally, what bothers so many people on all of these movie and gossip blogs, including me – is that these people at a midnight screening were simply die-hard film fans. They were one of us. These were people who had been waiting months, gleefully anticipating arguably the biggest film event of the year. They couldn't wait another hour, and that night was probably something they had been looking forward to for weeks and weeks. And don't all of the film-fans out there relate to that? I don't mean to diminish anything about the lives of the victims – I'm merely saying that it struck me so hard (and so many people out there) because all of us love movies so much, and Nolan is right – many of us do treat the theater like a "home," a safe place where we can let our geeky film-fanatic freak-flags fly. Incidentally, I went to see The Dark Knight Rises on Saturday. I'm not going to do a full review or anything, partly because I do think the focus should be on Colorado victims and their families, and partly because… well, TDKR doesn't need MY review, you know? You already know if you want to see it, and you probably already have. So, NO SPOILERS, I'll just say that I enjoyed it very much. Tom Hardy was great as Bane, Morgan Freeman was terrific, Gary Oldman was awesome, and Christian Bale… well, he was good too. He was noticeably smaller (less muscled) in this one than in the previous films, which makes me think that Bale's body is finally putting up a big fight about his constant weight fluctuations. My favorite parts were every scene with Anne Hathaway and Joseph Gordon Levitt, honestly. JGL was ah-mazing! Annie was great too – sexy and vulnerable and tough. At first, the politics and some of the motivations of some of the characters made no sense to me, but it all comes together beautifully in the last 30-40 minutes. It was a really great way for the trilogy to go out. |
First trailer for ‘Man of Steel’: Superman used to be a longshoreman?! Posted: 22 Jul 2012 05:10 AM PDT It feels like we've been talking about the Superman reboot, Man of Steel, for ages now. Director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and producer Christopher Nolan (the Batman trilogy) finally got around to filming the damn thing last year, but it's not going to come out until NEXT summer. Famously, there was a huge casting call and every buff dude in Hollywood and abroad was reading for the Clark Kent/Superman role, – eventually the part went to buff Englishman Henry Cavill. The first teaser trailer was shown at Comic-Con, and now the teaser appears ahead of The Dark Knight Rises. Here you go: Honest question: is there a comic book origin-storyline to back up this version of Superman? Because I thought the origin story was always supposed to be "adopted son of farmers, turned city-boy reporter by day". What is the brief detour into a longshoreman lifestyle? It reminds me of the opening scenes of The Bourne Identity. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Anyway, the voiceover is Kevin Costner, in case you couldn't place the voice. Costner is playing Jonathan Kent (Clark's adopted father). Diane Lane plays Clark's adopted mother. Russell Crowe is Jor-El (the birth father of Clark/Superman/Kal-El). Amy Adams is Lois Lane, and Michael Shannon is General Zod. The casting of both Russell Crowe and Michael Shannon made all the fanboys go *boom* in their fan-panties, so it really does seem like the casting alone brings this reboot to a good place. I think there are a lot of high hopes, and at the end of the day, it will be a better film than that one with Kate Bosworth, right? Here are some photos from last year of Cavill on set. Damn, this dude is STACKED. I'm going to be thinking about his shoulders all day. |
