Daaaayum Homie!!! Steve Francis Gets Fired From Chinese Team After Just Two Weeks Playing Posted: 28 Dec 2010 05:55 AM PST Poor thang! After being unemployed for two years, Steve Francis was probably just glad to be getting a check when he accepted a job playing for the Beijing Ducks. But those Chinamen did him dirty! Actually, he just sucked. But they could have at least given him a chance to do better! Steve Francis is reportedly done playing professionally in China as reports are that the Beijing Shougang Ducks released Francis. His agent confirmed it to Sina Sports. Francis played just four games with the Ducks and spent only 13 days with the team. He played 14 minutes a game and averaged only 0.5 points per game. So if you were to say it was an unsuccessful trip for Stevie Franchise, you’d be correct. Evidently the rocky relationship between Francis and the Ducks came to a head on Christmas, which is a holiday not really recognized in China. Francis skipped the team’s practice to spend time with his family and naturally, the team didn’t like that. Before that, he walked out at halftime of a game a few days before and told the club he was willing to leave. Plus, Francis wasn’t excited about the 14 minutes a game he was getting either. Francis went to China to try and extend a basketball career that has been falling apart for years. China made some sense though because Francis had some name recognition left over with Chinese fans because of his time playing in Houston with Yao Ming. Reportedly ticket and merchandise sales were up since Francis arrived, but this was a relationship destined to fail. The team though said Francis was out of shape and unable to really contribute how they hoped. Earlier in the month, the league hit Francis with a “serious warning” because of an inappropriate gesture he made on the bench. Reportedly, Francis’s deal was a one-year guaranteed contract with an option for a second season worth about $800,000. SMH. R.I.P.: Bernie Wilson Of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes Dead At 64 Posted: 28 Dec 2010 05:37 AM PST Bernie Wilson (the gentleman photographed to the right of Teddy P) has passed away: Bernie Wilson, a baritone member of the rhythm and blues group that produced the 1972 hit “If You Don’t Know Me by Now,” has died. Wilson, 64, died early Sunday at Kresson View Center in Voorhees, N.J., following a stroke and a heart attack, his cousin, Faith Peace-Mazzccua, said Monday. Philadelphia International Records, the former record company for Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, said Wilson’s death leaves Lloyd Parks as the sole surviving member of the group’s lineup at the time. The lineup also featured Teddy Pendergrass and Lawrence Brown. The group produced a string of R&B hits in the ’70s and helped define the Sound of Philadelphia. “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” topped the R&B charts and made the top five on the pop charts. The hits that followed included “I Miss You,” ”Bad Luck,” ”Wake up Everybody,” and the dance track “The Love I Lost,” which has been credited as one of the first disco records, according to an All Music Guide biography on the Billboard website. “He left home at 16 as a pauper and came back home a millionaire,” Peace-Mazzccua told The Associated Press. She said her cousin kept performing until a few years ago and hoped to return and sing gospel music. “Bernard was a very funny person. But that doesn’t mean the Kardashian PR Machine isn’t hard at work. People Magazine just ran a piece about the five things you “need to know” about Kris Humphires. None of them were that interesting. 1. Like Kardashian, He Comes from a Family of Ks Accompanying Kardashian, 30, her mom Kris Jenner, and her sisters Khloé, Kourtney, Kendall and Kylie, Humphries – who has sisters Krystal and Kaela – says the letter ‘K’ plays an important role is his family, as well. “I think my parents thought that it was cool or trendy at the time,” he tells PEOPLE. “Parents try to distinguish their kids sometimes.” 2. He’s a Man of Many Talents Before landing a notable NBA career, Humphries was a star swimmer. Still holding records to this day, he was considered the top swimmer in the nation when he was 10, even beating out Michael Phelps. “I was so good at a young age that I got a little burnt out,” Humphries says. “I also grew up in the Michael Jordan era … for me, I watched [basketball] and saw it as a challenge. It’s hard to stay focused on something when you have a ton of success at a young age, so I picked up basketball a little later and rolled with that.” 3. He’s Loves The Office When Humphries isn’t busy shooting hoops or keeping up with his Kardashian, he’s taking in comedy. Explaining that The Office is his favorite TV show, he says, “I think the way the cast and characters have developed over the years is unbelievably funny … I just love the way the show has come together. I think the older ones are better than the newer ones.” 4. He’s a Closet Poker Fanatic If Humphries’s pro basketball career ever falls flat, he has a fall-back. “One thing people don’t know about me is that I play a lot of poker,” he says. “Love it. I play a lot of hold ‘em. At some point, I want to play in the World Series. Even if you’re a great player, it’s hard and it’s a lot of luck.” 5. He’s a Good Guy Heading up the Kris Humphries Foundation, the Minnesota native is all about helping children. “I thought that when I got the platform to have my own foundation and start to make a difference in the community, then I was going to do it,” Humphries says. “The great thing about my foundation is that we partner up with people like the Boys and Girls Club or different organizations around Minnesota just to make every dollar go as far as possible.” Yaaaaaaaaaawn. Jesus Take The Wheel: DMX Moved To Mental Health Unit Due To “An Undiagnosed Mental Condition” Posted: 28 Dec 2010 05:28 AM PST Man, at this time, you gotta just pray for Dark Man X: Rapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, is housed in a mental-health unit at an Arizona State Prison Complex facility called Alhambra near 25th street and Van Buren. DMX was sentenced to a year in jail (minus 113 days served) on December 16, after he pleaded guilty to violating the terms of his probation. At his sentencing, Judge Christine Mulleneaux told him she believes he has “an undiagnosed mental condition,” possibly bi-polar disorder. DMX’s manager, Nakia Walker, wouldn’t comment specifically on whether DMX might have a mental disorder, but she says she wasn’t surprised when he was moved to a mental-health unit. The rapper himself always has refused to comment on speculation about his mental state. In 2001, he threatened to beat up writer William Shaw for asking about it in a Blender magazine interview. “Waaaay too personal,” DMX said. The embattled hip-hop star is incarcerated for the 13th time. His record includes more than 25 arrests across the nation, 11 felony convictions, and 15 misdemeanor convictions. Arizona Department of Corrections files confirm that DMX was admitted to the Flamenco Mental Health Unit at Alhambra on December 20. In White Folks News: Elton John And His Husband Welcome Baby Boy Posted: 28 Dec 2010 05:20 AM PST Good for them: Sir Elton John and David Furnish have become parents to son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, the couple tells UsMagazine.com exclusively. The baby boy, who was born Dec. 25 in California via a surrogate, weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces. “We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment,” John and Furnish tell Us in a joint statement. “Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents.” This is the first child for John, 62, and Furnish, 48. The couple married in 2005 after 12 years together. A rep for the couple has stated that they intend to protect and respect the privacy of their surrogate, and will not be discussing any details relating to the surrogacy arrangements. He shared a couple of giggles with a certain reality TV mom… Kris Jenner, the head of the Kardashian Klan, was seen with a case of the giggles while watching the game with Mr. West. It was reported about a month ago that Kanye was getting a little extra familiar with Kimmy Cakes but… Whether it was true or not didn’t matter because Kim was on to the next five seconds later.
