Is A Verizon iPad On The Way?

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 05:00 PM PST

Earlier this month we heard the rumor that Apple is planning the release of the second generation iPad for February 2011 (tho, the rumors have been updated to a release date in April). Today we hear another rumor that when the iPad 2 does get released, it will be available in 3 different formats … one for Wifi only, one for use on the AT&T wireless network and one for use on the Verizon wireless network.

Apple’s loose-lipped overseas partners are exchanging whispers about the next-generation iPad, claiming it will come in three different versions, one of which would work with Verizon’s network. The iPad 2 will support three different wireless configurations: UMTS, CDMA and Wi-Fi only, according to “industry sources quoted by DigiTimes” citing component makers. That’s up from the two versions Apple currently offers: UMTS plus Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi only. To explicate the alphabet soup, UMTS is the standard used by major 3G carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile, while CDMA is compatible with Verizon and Sprint networks. Currently the 3G iPad ships with a MicroSIM card slot, and in the United States, the only carrier that uses MicroSIM is AT&T. Customers who want to connect to non-AT&T 3G networks must … buy an external wireless hotspot device such as the Verizon MiFi (Verizon already sells a MiFi plus iPad package) … So if this rumor is true, it means that when the iPad 2 ships, you’ll have to pick a 3G model based on your carrier preference. If you don’t plan to be on the road a lot, there’s still the Wi-Fi option. Support for both major wireless standards in the United States will make the iPad 2 available to a much larger potential audience, whereas before it was only available in the states from AT&T. Whether Apple hammers out sales agreements with Verizon or Sprint remains to be seen. Recent rumors suggestion that the iPad 2 will hit stores April 2011, one year after the original iPad’s release.

Unlike the mythical Verizon iPhone, the likelihood of a Verizon iPad seems to be all but a certainty. Apple already teamed up with Verizon to sell the current AT&T only iPad so it makes sense that the next model will be tailored for use on Verizon‘s network. Furthermore, there are other rumors about the iPad 2 that are running rampant … Mashable has culled together the most popular rumors:

Rumor #1: There Will Be Three Versions of the iPad 2
Rumor #2: iPad 2 Will Have a Front and Back-Facing Camera
Rumor #3: Slimmer, Lighter and Retina Display
Rumor #4: The iPad 2 Will Have a Flat Back
Rumor #5: iPad 2: Now With Wide-Range Speakers?
Rumor #6: The iPad 2 Will Have a USB Port
Rumor #7: The iPad 2 Will Have a Dual-Core CPU
Rumor #8: Non-Smudge Screen & Gyroscope
Rumor #9: A 7-Inch Version of the iPad?

Click HERE for a breakdown of each of these interesting rumors. I wouldn’t count on most of these rumors to be true … but I’d wager at least one of them might turn out to be the real deal. Whatever the case may be, we’ll know soon enough what’s true and what’s not when the iPad 2 gets released. It may not come out in February but I’m pretty sure we won’t have to wait much longer after Feb for the dang thing to be released.

‘Jersey Shore’s Vinny Guadagnino Is Releasing His Own Line Of T-Shirts

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 02:55 PM PST

Last week we learned that Jersey Shore star Paul Pauly D DelVecchio managed to get an MTV show of his very own as the first JS castmember to go solo. Back in July we got our first look at Jenni Jwoww Farley‘s very own clothing line called Filthy Couture and all year long we’ve been hearing about how Mike The Situation Sorrentino has been cashing in on his JS fame with his own clothing line, book and work-out video. Now it’s Vinny Guadagnino‘s turn to cash in … but at least he is doing so for a good cause.

“The Jersey Shore” star Vinny Guadagnino is expanding his empire to include the world of fashion! Next month he’s launching a T-shirt line–and it’s for a good cause! Guadagnino’s T-shirt collection is called “IHAV”–short for “I Have A Vision”–and he’s partnering with DoSomething.org to give back a portion of the revenue generated through his first T-shirt design to grants which will help facilitate anti-bullying initiatives across the country. The T-shirt line’s launch will be feted at a private reception in lower Manhattan on Monday.

Wow. I think I might actually die of shock! The thought that anyone on Jersey Shore would use their ill-gotten fame to help raise money for a noble cause is … mind-blowing. I am never surprised to hear of new entrepreneurial projects from anyone in the Jersey Shore cast lookin’ to raise funds to line their own pockets … and, to be honest, at first I believed that Vinny was doing the same. The fact that he is working with Do Something to fund anti-bullying initiatives is just … amazing. Vinny‘s t-shirt line is one that I can wholeheartedly support. Well done, Vin.

Ashton Kutcher Does ‘Men’s Fitness’ Magazine

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 01:57 PM PST

Ashton Kutcher is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Men’s Fitness magazine and in his extremely kooky interview, he explains to the Men’s Fitness readers that he is in the process of prepping for the coming apocalypse, the proverbial End of Days. It’s not entirely clear if Kutcher‘s comments are tongue-in-cheek in nature or if he truly believes that the end is nigh but … it sure makes for an interesting read.

Ashton Kutcher thinks the world would go mad if electricity failed. The ‘No Strings Attached’ actor – who is married to Demi Moore – wouldn’t be surprised if the world goes into meltdown during his lifetime because people rely too much on things that are convenient. He explained: ‘It won’t take very much, I’m telling you. It will not take much for people to hit the panic button. The amount of convenience that people rely on based on electricity alone. You start taking out electricity and satellites, and people are going to lose their noodle. People don’t have maps anymore. People use their iPhones or GPS systems, so if there’s no electricity, nobody has maps.’ Ashton, 32, believes he has already had a glimpse of what could happen after being caught in a power cut late last year. He recalled to the February 2011 issue of Men’s Fitness magazine: ‘It was 20 below zero. I got my guns out. We made a fire. We went to the grocery store, and the doors were open because they’re all electronic. People were rolling in and out, clearing out the shelves.’ Earlier this year, Ashton and wife Demi Moore embarked on a 10-day ‘Master Cleanse’ diet and the screen hunk claims they choose to exist on nothing but water, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and lemon juice for 10 days once a year in order to prepare for a potential disaster situation. Ashton said: ‘If the shit hits the fan, I like knowing I could live off water and syrup for a couple of weeks.’

To be honest, I’ve kinda always felt that our civilization is really only a few steps away from a total melt down and I can see how things would quickly fall apart if our reliance on technology was suddenly halted completely … but I don’t know that I’m at all on board with this plan of Kutcher‘s to begin planning/training for the end of the world. It sounds more like the Master Cleanse that he endured left him a bit light-headed … and perhaps a bit touched. Still, this apocalyptic training plan does make for a pretty neat photoshoot theme for the magazine:

While I’d be willing to bet that Ashton does believe somewhat the things he offers in this interview, I doubt he’s really truly preparing for the apocalypse. If so, he’d be focused on stockpiling weaponry to fight off the legions of zombies/vampires/werewolves/robots/aliens/whatever that will sure be the cause of the end of Human Civilization. My guess is that the kooky nature of this interview has more to do with selling magazines than it does with anything else.

Still … I gotta ask … how would YOU plan for any potential apocalypses that might rear their ugly heads?

Amy Winehouse’s Teenage Diary Found In The Trash, Uploaded To The Internets

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 01:36 PM PST

An old notebook/diary of Amy Winehouse‘s was recently discovered in a trash bin in the UK (along with a collection of other discarded school books) and pages from the diary have been made available on the all-seeing Internets. The diary, which is full of Winehouse‘s hopes, dreams and occasional lyrics, was written when Amy was only 17 years old (just before she hit it big with her first record contract). Altho the text is not groundbreaking, it is a very interesting look at a younger, more innocent Amy Winehouse.

A teenage Amy Winehouse, now 27, had big dreams – and a few small ones, according to new diary entries found in a London trash can. The pages, discovered in a notebook among discarded schoolbooks, include song lyrics and notes Winehouse wrote to herself in 2001 when she was 17, not long before she got her first record deal. On a list that includes handwritten reminders to get a “treadmill” and “buy car,” the singer also wrote, “get teeth fixed.” Revealing a slightly bigger goal, she apparently hoped to “buy FLAT in London.” (The singer has lived in an apartment in the Camden area of London since her late teens). Though the entries were found in the rubbish, Winehouse’s rep tells PEOPLE she wants them back. “Yes, they are hers,” her rep confirms. “They got thrown out by mistake and she’s in the process of getting them back now.” Winehouse gets a bit more personal in some entries, reminding herself to “live like the bombshell I really am” and revealing feelings for a guy named Felix, by writing, “There’s too much sexual tension.” In a red notebook on which she scrawled “Amy’s Songs,” the singer also jotted down some early lyrics including “Drain my drink & order more” and “Find someone with whom I can come undone.”

It’s funny to imagine a young, innocent Amy Winehouse dreaming her big dreams in Camden and then to see what she has become all these years later. Without question, Winehouse is one of the finest singers to release music in the past 5 years … but her horrible struggle with addiction threatens to ruin everything she has accomplished in her short career. It’s so sad to see someone so talented piddle away their success just to have a good time. The Amy Winehouse who scribbled in this diary was so full of hope and promise. Perhaps one day Amy will truly clean up her act and get back to dreaming her big dreams … while staying sober and, hopefully, successful.

Put The Needle On It

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 12:55 PM PST

Last night David and I did a bit of shopping together to put the finishing touches on my Xmas gift from him. This year, I became the very HAPPY recipient of a portable turntable record player! I’ve never been a big vinyl fan (primarily because my lazy ass prefers the ease of use that comes from CDs/MP3s) but I have been a collector of record albums for years. This year I decided I wanted a small record player and David made my Xmas wish come true.

I settled on the Crosley Keepsake USB Turntable for its portability and computer connectivity. Trust me, I know this is not a high fidelity device … but all I really wanted was a small turntable to play my records on. I never owned a record player of my own but my parents had a huge stereo that was a full on record player and 8-track player. I used to play my Books on Record on that behemoth … but sometimes, I’d go next door and hang out with my friends Monica and Adam and listen to records on her portable record player (which looked much like the one I just got). Because much of my record collection is still back home in Detroit (Tori Amos, NIN, Garbage, Pearl Jam, etc. … albums that I collected when the CDs came out and never opened), we went to Amoeba Records in Hollywood last night to pick up a few new/used discs:

The records featured above are some of the albums I picked up last night. The Smiths album is on cool purple vinyl and the Siouxsie and the Banshees disc is on glow-in-the-dark vinyl :D To be honest, I haven’t had much time to play records … but I am SO in love with this gift. If you have any suggestions for must own records, please pass them along in the comments below. I know that vinyl will not replace my need for CDs/MP3s but it sure is a fun way to really enjoy music. Any vinyl fans out there?

Neil Patrick Harris Opens Up About Being A New Father

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 11:26 AM PST

Back in October we learned the joyous news that longtime couple Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka welcomed the birth of twin babies which were born to the couple via surrogate mother. Today we get to hear from NPH in a new interview with People magazine for the first time since he and partner David became new fathers.

“Everyone says that it’s such a blur after it happens,” says Harris of becoming parents to fraternal twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott, born Oct. 12 via surrogate. “I find myself constantly just trying to wrap my mind around it.” After almost seven years together, Harris, 37, and Burtka, 35, began the surrogacy process and were “thrilled” to discover they were having fraternal twins. “We inserted two eggs, one with my sperm, one with David’s sperm and they both took,” says Harris. Holding their children in the delivery room shortly after their birth was “just absolute joy,” says Burtka. “We had two babies that we made. With help.” The family just moved into a “more kid-friendly” home in the Hollywood Hills and the twins have a new nursery with an old-school Disney theme park décor. “Harper has been fussy but Gideon is the easiest baby in the world,” says Burtka. “They’re just now starting to recognize us and smile.” “I just love the way they smell. And we can use them as an excuse to get out of almost anything,” adds Harris, jokingly. “That’s cleared the calendar in a good way.”

NPH‘s full interview with People magazine will be published in this week’s new issue, due out on newsstands on Friday. I would not be surprised at all if we get to see what twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott look like when this issue of People comes out. I can’t even tell you how much I love the idea of Neil and David as new fathers. They are so blessed to have such a happy family … and I know that they know it. Even if they’re aren’t photos of the twins in this issue (but I’m hopin’ and prayin’ that there is at least one photo), this interview is a must read. I can’t wait to read all about Neil and David‘s new life as daddies.

‘Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark’ Does Not Want To Get Reviewed . . . Yet

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 11:05 AM PST

Earlier this week we learned that Natalie Mendoza, a lead actress in the troubled Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, has quit the show in the wake of not only her injury during a performance of the show earlier this month but also the serious injury of fellow castmate Christoper Tierney just last week. Today there is more Spider-Man controversy to pass along. A spokesperson for the show is lashing out at professional critics who dared to publish “reviews” of the show which is still in previews and has not yet officially opened … cuz that is gonna get other reviewers to be kind when they write their reviews.

The official spokesman for “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” is lashing out at critics who recently attended and wrote about preview performances of the Broadway musical. Over the weekend, reviewers from Bloomberg and Newsday attended previews of “Spider-Man” and published reports of the show in which they offered their opinion, though they stopped short of describing their write-ups as reviews. Their actions (and those of their editors) broke with the widely accepted protocol of waiting until opening night to run a review. In response to those critics, “Spider-Man” spokesman Rick Miramontez has issued the following statement:

“For a major critic to review a Broadway musical, or play for that matter, after only the twentieth preview, is disappointing and uncalled for … Whatever reason the critic or their editor may have, it does not mask the fact that for decades, musicals have developed in front of paying audiences before critics are INVITED. While we are certainly not naive about the media scrutiny attached to this production, as we have been accommodating throughout, this unprecedented new development is troubling, to say the least.”

The official opening for “Spider-Man” is set for Feb. 7, though the show has already missed a few opening nights already due to technical and creative problems. Preview performances began in late November, with audiences being charged full or close to full prices. The New York Times’ cultural editor said earlier this week that the newspaper will wait to send a critic to review the show but added that it won’t wait forever.

Um … are they totally stupid, or what? What possible positive impact could issuing a statement like this have on the already flailing show? How is it a good idea AT ALL to go on the defensive about reviews when, in the end, they should be begging for good press? The producers of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark must be completely insane if they think they can quell reviews of the show for very much longer. Not only has the show pushed back the officially opening date of the production by a couple of months but it has been plagued by so many newsworthy incidents that publications would be remiss if they didn’t report on the show. I know that I am not the only one that fears that the show will close before it even officially opens in February. My guess is that the reviewers who shared their opinions on the show before the official opening of the show only did so because they, too, fear that Spider-Man‘s days on Broadway are numbered. Is it a good idea for professional critics to publish reviews based on shows that are still in previews? No. But Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark — whether they like it or not — is a special case. The show’s failings are already very well known … it makes sense that media publications might want to have their say as soon as they can before the show closes for good.

Cher & Kathy Griffin Are Beach BFFs

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 10:40 AM PST

Iconic Diva Cher and self-proclaimed D-Lister Kathy Griffin spent part of their weekend in Hawaii hanging out together on the beach. The BFFs who spend the Xmas weekend holidaying in Hawaii met up for a paddleboarding trip together on Xmas Eve. I don’t know how you spent your Xmas Eve, but paddleboarding in paradise sure looks like a lot of fun.

Look who’s hitting the waves this holiday season in Hawaii: Cher and her good friend Kathy Griffin. While Cher suited up to stay warm for her adventures in paddleboarding and looked like a pro with the oar, her pal Kathy wasn’t worried about the temperature and instead showed off her rockin’ bikini bod. Cher shows no signs of slowing down at age 64 as these photos prove, perhaps providing inspiration for her pal Kathy, who just turned 50 this year!

How much do I love that these fabulous ladies are real life BFFs? I can only imagine all the fun and trouble these two get into when they’re hanging out together outside of the public eye. This day at the beach really does look like a lot of fun … and I really hope that Kathy got her fill of warm weather fun because she will be in NYC on New Year’s Eve to help Anderson Cooper countdown the last minutes of 2010 this Friday night. No word if Cher will be ringing in the New Year with her BFF Kathy in NYC but at least the pair got to send their Xmas Eve together.

Vanessa Hudgens Hides Her Face In Shame

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 09:56 AM PST

A couple of weeks ago we learned the sad news that Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens broke up after they had been going steady as boyfriend/girlfriend for the past, like, forever. Since then, we’ve learned that Zac went and shaved off all of his beautiful hair for his new film The Lucky One. Today we get to check in on Vanessa as she made her way out of a dentist’s office here in SoCal yesterday afternoon. I’m not sure what exactly the dentist did to her mouth but she most deff did NOT want anyone to see it.

Now, there are a number of possibilities as to why Vanessa was so careful not to show off her mouth as she made her way out of the dentist’s office. Mebbe she was still feeling the effects of Novocaine and she was drooling uncontrollably. Perhaps she endured a bit of mouth surgery and tried to hide the bleeding. OR … mebbe she had some other kind of procedure done to her mouth area that she was trying to keep under-wraps. I’ve heard of some dentists who offer a range of procedures that have nothing to do with oral health care … as I understand it, some dentists also do lip injections and other cosmetic-type procedures. It’s impossible to know for sure why Vanessa was being so shy … but my guess is that we should be on the look out for plumper lips. What do YOU think she had done to her mouth?

Lindsay Lohan Is Planning The Launch Of Her Own Line Of Shoes

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 08:38 AM PST

We are just DAYS away from Lindsay Lohan‘s release from the Betty Ford Center (brace yourselves) and today we are learning of Lindsay‘s post-rehab plans. The troubled starlet is lookin’ to get right back to work as soon as she is sprung from rehab and the first thing on her agenda will be to launch her very own line of shoes. Yes, her 6126 brand — which is, thus far, made up of leggings and a full clothing line — is now being expanded to include Lindsay Lohan shoes.

E! News has exclusively learned that, upon her release from rehab next week, Lindsay is going to get cracking on expanding her 6126 fashion brand into footwear … “She’ll finalize everything when she’s out,” says a rep for 6126, who describes the shoes Lindsay has in mind as “classic, glamorous, timeless with a sexy flair.” An official announcement is expected early next year and, if all goes according to plan, the line will debut next fall.

Firstly, I think getting back to work is a great idea for post-rehab Lindsay. If she is preoccupied with a constructive project that will keep her too bizzy to party, then she has a much better chance at success with her sobriety. That being said, I’m not sure how successful Lindsay will be at selling shoes. As you may horridly recall, her mother Dina Lohan attempted last year to launch her own line of shoes called Shoe-Han (yes, seriously) … but the demand for the footwear was so embarrassingly low, the line got canceled before it even got off the ground. It’s entirely possible that Lindsay will have more luck with her line of shoes but … I wouldn’t really bet on it. I understand Lindsay‘s 6126 leggings line sells moderately well but I haven’t really heard much of the success of the 6126 clothing line. Still, I applaud L. Lo for trying to stay productive as soon as she gets out of rehab. I wish her all the success in the world … but … c’mon … do YOU think anyone would want to seriously wear Lindsay Lohan shoes?

Britney Spears Is Reportedly Working With Xenomania On Her New Album

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 07:58 AM PST

Earlier this week we got to read the RUMORED lyrics for the new Dr. Luke-produced song Hold It Against Me that will reportedly be included on Britney Spears‘s new album (due out in March) and we heard from Britney album producer Sean Garrett that the team is working on a “new sound” for Brit‘s new disc. Today we learn that Britney is reportedly also working with the British producing team Xenomania on her new album … which, if true, bodes very well for the success of the album.

BRITNEY SPEARS will be making some catchy pop songs again. The singer has turned to the XENOMANIA production team to work on her new album. That should be right up her street – they are the songwriters who helped put GIRLS ALOUD on every cheesy DJ’s setlist. The British team have also worked with KYLIE MINOGUE, SUGABABES and CHER, but the latter shouldn’t put Britney off. Her new material, due out in March, will have more influence from this side of the Pond as emerging Essex girl JESSIE J has also been lined up for the project.

I haven’t read anywhere else this news that Britney is working with Xenomania but there really is no reason not to believe the report. Xenomania collaborated with Britney before on her album In The Zone (on a song called Graffiti My Soul) but none of the songs they came up with made it onto the album. Xenomania have a very cool, Euro pop feel to their music … they’ve worked with Kylie Minogue, Girls Aloud, Sophie-Ellis Bextor and Rachel Stevens. Most folks here in the US aren’t familiar with any of these British pop acts (including Kylie). I love all of these artists and am really excited to hear what they come up with for Britney‘s new album … that is, if their songs actually make the cut this time. I am SO amped for this album … the producers we keep hearing about as collaborators are a great mix of fun sounds. I am DYING to hear the final product.

Kelsey Grammer Speaks, Explains That He Just Really Wants To Get Married Again

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 07:24 AM PST

In the past few days we’ve been hearing a lot about the divorce of Kelsey Grammer and his wife of 13 years Camille (who stars on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills). First we heard that Kelsey is lookin’ for a quickie divorce so that he can immediately marry his new fiancée Kayte Walsh, then we learned that it will cost him at least $50 million to divorce Camille … because he married with no pre-nuptial agreement. Today we hear from Kelsey himself in an official statement he released to People magazine. Kelsey makes clear why he wants to marry Kayte as soon as he can … be cause he loves her, y’all.

“Kayte and I are marrying because we are engaged, and we are engaged because we are in love and see no reason to postpone our happiness any longer. We are planning something we wish to be a private affair among several of our friends. Anything else is conjecture and false. Kayte and I are the only reliable source for this story. End of story.”

And there you have it … straight from the horses mouth. Camille has been talking a lot to the press about the disintegrating state of her marriage so it makes sense that Kelsey would want to chime in and tell his side of the story. To be honest, I’m quite surprised that he is so taken with Kayte Walsh … I mean, the guy sounds sprung! My guess is that the couple, who clearly were involved enough to get pregnant, really bonded over the sad miscarriage that they suffered over the Summer. Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that Kelsey is in LURVE with Kayte and he wants to marry her as soon as he can. While I doubt that the pair will get hitched on the very day that Kelsey‘s divorce is legally settled but I’m certain they won’t wait very long to say their I Dos. I wonder if Kelsey will marry with a pre-nup this time. Any guesses?
