My Fave Movies Of 2010

On Tuesday I posted my Top Albums of 2010 and yesterday I was planning to post my list of my fave films of the year … but I had to push back one day so I could see one more film to determine if it was worthy of making my Top 10 list. And so, without further ado, here is my personal list of the Top Movies of 2010.

Number 10 — Piranha 3D:


The B-Movie was back this year and it came in the form of the hilariously silly yet entirely entertaining film Piranha 3D. No movie this year had more blood, boobs and severed penis than Piranha 3D … which, of course, means that the film should be lauded in some small way. While the serious, well-acted, well-written, incredibly creative films will be honored by the big movie award ceremonies next year, I think there is something to be said for the silly “popcorn movies” that manage to entertain for 90 minutes in the most frivolously fun way. Piranha 3D is no cinematic masterpiece … but it’s a damn good time at the movies … and it deffo made my list of fave films for 2010.

 

David Beckham Legally Denies He Had Sex With A Prostitute

Earlier this year, In Touch Weekly magazine published a story that alleged that David Beckham was cheating on his wife Victoria Beckham with a prostitute named Irma Nici. Today we learn that Becks has filed legal paperwork that vehemently denies on his behalf that any such affair ever took place. Not only does Becks deny that he ever met Ms. Nici but he contends that her claims that they enjoyed a sexual affair has caused much emotional distress to the entire Beckham family.

David Beckham has emphatically denied cheating on his wife with a prostitute in 2007, according to new legal documents signed by the footballer. The LA Galaxy star has filed a declaration to a Los Angeles court in his $25 million battle against Imra Nici and the publishers of American magazine In Touch. The tabloid reported claims he cheated on Victoria Beckham with the $10,000-a-night Bosnian-born prostitute and engaged in a threesome. The 35-year-old, who has been married for 11 years, accuses Nici of fabricating the entire story, branding her claims ‘unequivocally false.’ In the documents, Beckham states he ‘never met Nici, let alone committed adultery with Nici or paid her for sex.’ ‘Irma Nici’s statements have caused me and my family great anguish and emotional distress, and have adversely affected both my personal and professional life,’ Beckham writes. Nici, 26, claimed she was paid $10,000 cash after sleeping with him on five occasions, including liaisons at the Manhattan’s Le Parker Meridian Hotel and London’s Claridges Hotel in London in 2007. She is understood to be counter-suing the footballer for ‘emotional and physical injuries.’ She is said to be claiming for the injuries received when a process server arrived at her New York hotel to deliver Beckham's lawsuit in October. Beckham's lawyer Bert H. Deixler wrote to the German-owned magazine before they published the story, saying: 'Let me make it clear. The story you propose to run about Mr Beckham and a prostitute is a lie. The allegations are unequivocally denied. Publishing them would lead to legal action and end in an enormous damages award against you.' But the magazine ignored his pleas and carried on to print the claims under the front page headline that read, Beckham Caught Cheating: The Ultimate Betrayal.

I’m actually quite surprised that this messy story is still going on. Usually these sorts of things fade away after a few weeks but Becks‘s legal action this week appears to be dredging up the whole ugly matter one more time. Truth be told, I commend him continuing to pursue his legal options in this matter. It’s clear that he will not settle for anything less than a full retraction of the story. Without question, David Beckham‘s family is the most important thing in his life … it looks like he is happy to fight tooth and nail to defend his family against anyone who threatens it. As ugly as this matter continues to be, it looks like there will be no stopping David Beckham‘s quest to clear his name.

The Brangelina Bunch Surfaces In Missouri

Last weekend we learned that Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and their gaggle of children made their way to Namibia (the birthplace of their daughter Shiloh Nouvel) to celebrate the Xmas holiday … and today we learn that the family has already left the African continent to spend the last few days in Daddy Braddy‘s hometown of Springfield, MO. Altho it was a quick trip, the Brangelina bunch really got around town before they jetted off again.


This photo of Angelina and daughters Shiloh Nouvel and Zahara Marley was snapped at the Starbucks coffee stand inside a Barnes & Noble in Springfield this week (and quickly made its way to Facebook) and Too Fab is reporting that Brad and Ange made an in person visit to the St. John’s Jane Pitt Pediatric Center inside of St. John’s Hospital:

TooFab has learned the power couple, plus Brad’s parents Bill and Jane Pitt (left), toured the pediatric center at St. John’s Hospital — which was renamed to St. John’s Jane Pitt Pediatric Center last year after Brad, Angelina, Bill, Jane and Rob & Julie Neal (Brad’s sister) donated $1 million to the hospital. We’re told the family named it after Jane to honor her “countless years supporting children’s issues.”

Ah yes … Brangelina takes time out of their bizzy family schedule to do a good deed or two. Again, I am constantly amazed by how much these people get done in such a short period of time. I understand the Brangelina Bunch has already hightailed it out of Springfield … so who knows where they’ll show up next. From LA to Namibia to Missouri … I suppose it’s anyone’s guess where the family will pop up next.

Ryan Phillippe Comments On Reese Witherspoon’s New Engagement

On Tuesday we learned the joyous news that Reese Witherspoon and CAA agent Jim Toth have gotten engaged to be married after only about a year of dating … and today we get to hear from Reese‘s ex-husband Ryan Phillippe about the happy couple’s engagement. Phillippe released an official statement to The New York Daily News expressing his happiness for Reese … after all, he only wants the best for the mother of his children.

Reese Witherspoon’s first husband more than approves of the man about to be her second. Ryan Phillippe, who was wed to Witherspoon for seven years until 2008, is praising the actress’ recent engagement to CAA agent Jim Toth. “I’m very happy for both Reese and Jim,” the actor tells the Daily News in an exclusive statement. “I wish nothing but the best for the mother of my children” … In the May issue of Men’s Health, Phillippe said he still had “sadness and complicated feelings about my divorce,” but wondered, “how beneficial is it to keep hanging onto those feelings?” The month before, he spoke highly of his current relations with Witherspoon on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show, revealing they have “gotten to a place where we’re great friends and great co-parents.” He also said that their children weren’t too interested in their parents’ love lives. “If the kids care about mom dad, and if that’s consistent and they feel protected that way, they don’t they don’t really care so much about who the parent is dating,” he said. “They just don’t.”

Aww … what a swell guy. I’m sure it’s no easy task getting over an 8 year relationship but it seems that Ryan and Reese, the former Witherppe, have finally gotten to a place where they can truly be happy for the love lives of the other. For the past couple of months, Ryan has been romantically linked to Amanda Seyfried but the road to romance has been rocky for him every since he split from Reese. I truly believe that Ryan is happy for Reese and Jim. I only wish that he can find that same happiness with someone else. Isn’t it nice when divorced couples can actually be happy for and friendly toward one another?

New Details Emerge About Britney Spears’s New Album

Last night we FINALLY got confirmation that Hold It Against Me, the first single from Britney Spears‘s new album (due out in March), will be released next week (WOOT!) and today we are hearing a lot more information about her album as a whole. The New York Post is reporting all sorts of news about which producers worked on Britney‘s new album and if the report turns out to be correct, I think we are in for one HELL of an amazing new album from our dear Britney.

Britney Spears is slowly leaking news on her upcoming album (rumored to be dropping in March), and it's stuffed with some of the best European music makers on the planet. Here is a run-down of the production geniuses whispered to be teaming up with Brit Brit. The most recent name reportedly working on new Brit beats is the production team Xenomania — they’ve baked up hits for Pet Shop Boys, Cher and Kylie Minogue as well as more than 20 major British bands who, if we named, you’d be all, "huh?” Then we have William Orbit, who worked with the UK girl group All Saints on tracks like “Pure Shores” (the only US hit) as well as “Black Coffee" and “Dreams.” He also primed tracks like "Spiral" for another gal gang, the uber-famous Sugababes. But look for his hand to deliver Britney a single that will pull from the up-tempo hit "Feel Good Time" that he and P!nk supplied for the "Charlie's Angels 2" soundtrack. Next up is English producer Fraser T. Smith, who's had major success in the U.S., working on Taio Cruz’s No.1 single "Break Your Heart." Other recent successes — Ke$ha's "Dirty Picture", Pixie Lott's "Boys and Girls" and four-tracks off Cee-Lo's newest CD "Lady Killer" — promise that Fraser and Britney have all the ingredients to deliver more than brilliant beats. Jessie J, who's written hits for Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and Ke$ha will join Britney's team as well as English producer Rusko, who brings the dubstub sounds that peppered discs from Santogold and M.I.A. last year. These two, more predictable dance makers, as well Labyrinth — who's the only non-talent signed artist on Simon Cowell's record label Syco — will give this album some filler singles, hinting a more "Blackout" and less "Circus" style album. But the most surprising producers I came across on Brit's hitmaker list are Livvi Franc, who produced R&B-esque jams for Michael Jackson and electronic DJ duo Chase & Status, who are mostly know for their UK dance tracks and club-sets. Both should offer up the spice and surprise we are used to getting from Ms. Spears, rounding out a pretty brilliant sounding team.

Holy shizz!! If even half of this report turns out to be true … wow … Britney‘s next album will truly be a monster hit. Britney has never shied away from trying out new sounds and taking her music in exciting new directions. Teaming up with this collection of producers doesn’t surprise me in the least … and it excites me TO THE MAX! This report from the NYP claims that Hold It Against Me will be released on January 3 but we already know from Entertainment Weekly that the song won’t drop until the 7th … so on that account, they are wrong. Here’s hoping the rest of their report isn’t wrong … cuz if true, this is the album that I would LOVE to have Britney release.

Movie Review: ‘Blue Valentine’

At LONG last, David and I got to see the amazing new film Blue Valentine, which stars Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling, last night here in LA and I am happy to report that the movie was WELL worth the wait. David and I met up with our BFFs Darion and Emma at the ArcLight in Hollywood, CA for the showing … and hands down, we all loved it entirely.


Without question, Blue Valentine is a beautiful and painful movie to watch. Without the need for special effects, 3D or big action scenes, BV is able to deliver one of the most powerful films released this year. The storyline of the film never ventures outside of the simple story of a long love affair between who people, complete with hills and valleys of happiness and despair. I was quite taken with how meaty the film is considering how simple-sounding the plot actually is. The story jumps between two opposing time periods … showcasing times of extreme happiness and extreme sadness in the relationship. Williams and Gosling expertly portray these very real characters in such a way that it’s hard to believe they were acting. Raw, real … painfully normal … Blue Valentine is just a stunning portrait of one ordinary couple’s complicated life. There has been much talk about how the film got slapped with an NC-17 rating but you can forget all about that bullshizz. There is nothing pornographic in this film … it’s just a stark look at the good and bad things about love. I loved this film, no question. It’s not a happy film but it’s one that I think y’all should check out.

Tonight, I’m gettin’ in my car and I’m trekkin’ down South to San Diego to see the Dresden Dolls in concert. It’s been a long time since I’ve roadtripped for a concert but I’m really excited to see the band LIVE for the first time. It should be a blast :)

Watch: Kanye West, ‘Monster’

An unfinished version of Kanye West‘s latest music video for his new single Monster has leaked its way to the Internets. The clip, which is making the rounds today, features guest appearances by Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj … and a slew of dead models. Because the clip is unfinished, there are still scenes in the clip that need to be edited … but this leaked work in progress gives us a good understanding of what Kanye is going for in the music video.


This video in its final version will most definitely be cleaned up considerably and the explicit language will surely be edited out (at least in the broadcast version of the clip). Monster is actually one of my fave tracks on Kanye‘s excellent new album My Beautiful Dark, Twisted Fantasy. I understand he is also readying the release of a music video for his song All Of The Lights (which is, hands down, my fave track on the album) but for now … we have to make do with this unedited, unfinished version of the Monster music video:


Honestly, I could do without the hanging models … but the clip is kinda cool in a creepy way. I’m not sure if the disturbing sight of all of those dead models is meant to portray a message about beauty or just women in general but the sight of all of those dead (and sometimes decapitated) women is sure to rile up some folks. What do y’all think if Kanye‘s music video for Monster? Do you like/loathe?

Brandy Shows Off Her Egyptian Hindu God Tattoo

Brandy Norwood showed off her new tattoo on her official Twitter profile this week and inadvertently also showed off her ignorance of Hindu deities. For some reason, Brandy decided to get a tattoo of the Hindu god Ganesh on her wrist … despite the fact that she thought he was an Egyptian god. Fortunately for her, the tattoo turned out nicely but the fact that she didn’t even know what she was getting tattooed on her wrist seems silly and just plain dumb.

Brandy couldn’t wait to show off her new tattoo, but the singer probably should have got her facts straight before taking to Twitter. The Boy Is Mine singer had a picture of Ganesh, the Hindu deity, inked on the inside of her left wrist. However the 31-year-old apparently got her wires crossed and described it as an ‘Egyptian god’ when responding to questions from a fan. Brandy initially posted photos of her posed up alongside tattoo artist, Peter Koskela who specializes in custom work. Another frame shows the figure close up and she also showed herself having the tattoo inked on her skin. After seeing the pictures, one of her Twitter follower asked: ‘Is that Ganesh?’ ‘Yes it is!’ she wrote in response. ‘Egyptian god! Remover of all obstacles:)’ She was quickly informed by another reader that Ganesh is actually a Hindu deity, not Egyptian.

I am ALWAYS amazed at how flippantly and outright ignorantly people are willing to tattoo their bodies without knowing what the Hell they are getting inked into their skin. It’s one thing if the fault lies with the tattoo artist (eg. misspelled words) but it’s quite another for someone to walk into a tattoo parlor (presumably after they spent a considerable amount of time to research and plan their tattoo) and ask for a tattoo of a religious deity … and not even know what who the deity is. Every time I’ve heard of someone getting Ganesh tattooed on their body, they say it’s because he is the “remover of obstacles” — which is very true but he represents much more than just that. It just seems silly and dumb for anyone to get a tattoo of a religious deity when they really don’t know anything about it. I’m sure Brandy is a very nice girl and I hope she will enjoy her fairly large tattoo for the rest of her life … but something tells me that she didn’t put enough thought into her decision to truly enjoy her tat for years to come.

Jared Leto Braves The Cold In SoCal

When last we saw 30 Seconds to Mars frontman (and sometimes actor) Jared Leto he was out and about on the streets of London, England rockin’ some pretty seriously blue hair. Today we get to see Jared back home here in SoCal braving the chilly LA weather so that he can do some shopping for a few after Xmas sales.


As you might’ve guessed, Jared was spotted doing his shopping at Barney’s New York in Beverly Hills, CA … the very same high end department store where Christina Aguilera, Fairuza Balk, Rachel Zoe and Nicole Richie were spotted recently on shopping trips of their own. Because Jared decided to wear his furry cap, we can’t be sure if he’s still got a head of blue hair underneath … but funky hair or not, the man is still hot. If you can believe it, this fine specimen of man just turned 39 years old on December 26. Considering he looks this good at 39, I think we can look forward to many, many more years of Leto hotness ahead.

Natalie Portman & James Franco Do ‘Entertainment Weekly’ Magazine

Newly engaged & pregs Natalie Portman and Academy Awards host James Franco each grace their own cover of this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine. The coverstory for this week’s issue is focused on the Oscar Race for the 83rd annual Academy Awards so Natalie and James, both front-runners for Oscar noms for their work this year, make the perfect coverstars.

Natalie Portman took her fans by surprise this week with a big announcement: She's pregnant and engaged to marry her Black Swan choreographer, Benjamin Millepied. But that's hardly the only excitement she's got coming in the new year. The 29-year-old actress — who graces the cover of this week's Oscar Race issue — is poised to score a Best Actress nomination for her career-high turn as a tormented ballerina in Black Swan, a role she says nearly destroyed her. "There were some nights that I thought I literally was going to die," she says. "It was the first time I understood how you could get so wrapped up in a role that it could sort of take you down." Instead, the performance has lifted Portman into the ranks of Oscar shoe-ins this year (alongside 127 Hours star and Oscar co-host James Franco, who also gets his own EW cover this week) and turned Black Swan into an unlikely box office star — with a little help from a steamy love scene between Portman and co-star Mila Kunis. "Everyone was so worried about who was going to want to see this movie," Portman says. "I remember them being like, 'How do you get guys to a ballet movie? How do you get girls to a thriller?' And the answer is a lesbian scene. Everyone wants to see that."

Altho we are still weeks away from the announcement of this year’s Academy Award nominations, there is no question that the Oscar Buzz surrounding these two actors has reached a fevered pitch. I think it’s all but certain that both Natalie and James will nab nominations for their work in Black Swan and 127 Hours respectively. If you consider that Hollywood loves fairytale endings, it makes sense that Natalie will be a very happy woman on Oscar night. The engaged and pregnant star, who delivered the strongest performance of her career this year, will surely be honored for her work this year. And heck, even if James doesn’t get an Oscar this year, he’ll be all over the Academy Awards as co-host of the show with Anne Hathaway. The 83rd annual Academy Awards will be here in no time … EW is just gettin’ us excited for the big night.

BTW, this issue of EW magazine has the news about the release of Britney Spears‘s new single Hold It Against Me on January 7 … for that fact alone, it is a must own. Woot!!

‘Skins’ Season 5 Releases A New Video Trailer & Unveils New Opening Titles

Last week we learned the happy news that the 5th season of the UK TV series Skins will debut internationally on January 27 and today we get our FIRST LOOK at a just-released promo trailer as well as the totally revamped new opening title video for the show. As you may know, the 5th season of Skins will introduce an entirely new cast of characters and these videos give us our first look at the new gang in action.


This trailer is a bit arty … but it is very compelling. The completely nude cast falls and falls and falls until they fall into their clothes and then, presumably, onto the ground. Check out this new trailer in full:


Equally exciting is the release of the opening titles video for the 5th season of Skins. Altho the theme music is in there … kinda … this new opening title video is a pretty big departure for the show. Check out the video in full:


Skins has been one of my favorite TV shows in the past few years and I have high hopes that the new season of the show will carry on the tradition of excellence. While I am very worried about the US version of Skins, set to debut here in the US on MTV next month, I have no doubt that the original UK version of Skins will continue to entertain. Skins is fantastic … I can’t recommend it more! Catch up with seasons 1-4 and then get ready for Skins 5 debuting on E4 in the UK on Jan. 27.

Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi Will Drop IN A Ball On New Year’s Eve . . . In The Jersey Shore

Earlier this month we learned the odd news that MTV Jersey Shore star <strong>Nicole Snooki Polizzi would be dropped in a ball of her very own in Times Square, NYC as the final seconds of 2010 ticked away (in the same way that the larger, more famous Times Square Ball drops every New Year’s Eve) … but today we learn that those plans have been nixed completely. Due to the poor timing and impracticality of the stunt, Snooki‘s Ball Drop will NOT take place in Times Square. Instead, Snooki‘s Ball Drop will take place in the Jersey Shore.

2010 will not end with the sight of Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi dropping out of a ball on New Year’s Eve in Times Square. The co-producers of Times Square New Year’s Eve said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter that the Jersey Shore star’s year-ending idea had been denied. The request “came too late and was too impractical to fit in to our outdoor events,” the statement reads. The co-producers were clear that the Snooki ball would not have been “the actual New Year’s ball in Times Square” made famous in the annual New Year's countdown. But even “the request to have her in a separate ball on a set-back roof” was not allowed.

TMZ scored the photos above of the infamous Snooki Ball as it was being assembled for dropping tomorrow night in Seaside Heights, NJ. In all honesty, the idea of Snooki‘s Ball Drop happening in NYC seemed so wrong (on so many levels) to me … but this idea to have the event take place in the Jersey Shore makes total sense. What happens on Jersey Shore should STAY in the Jersey Shore.

Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka Show Off Their Twin Babies In ‘People’ Magazine

Yesterday we got to read excerpts of an interview with new dad Neil Patrick Harris in this week’s issue of People magazine (on newsstands now) where he opens up about being a new dad with partner David Burtka. I speculated that the interview might be accompanied by photos of the twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott … and I was right. The new issue of People magazine gives us our FIRST LOOK at NPH and David‘s beautiful newborn twin children.


Here they are … the precious little darlings who have graced the lives of these new dads with wonder and love. Aren’t they just the cutest little dolls? It’s pretty amazing how this family came to be … twin children born together where each child is biologically that of each dad. It’s a beautiful miracle … and totally meant to be. This issue of People magazine is a MUST OWN. I can’t wait to pick up my copy so that I can better see these amazing photos of this beautiful and very happy family.

Elton John Opens Up About The Birth Of His Son Zachary Jackson Levon

On Tuesday we learned the happy news that music legend Elton John and his husband David Furnish welcomed the birth of a baby boy on Xmas Day which was born via surrogate mother. Today we get to hear from Elton himself in a new interview about the birth of his newborn son which, he reveals, fulfills a longtime dream of the couple.

“We have fulfilled a dream in finally becoming parents, and are so happy and excited at this very special time. Zachary is a gorgeous little baby and we are so proud of him. A friend gave us a book of baby names, and we started to flick through it, but we have always loved the name Zachary and kept coming back to it. In the end, we looked at each other, and put the book back on shelf, and said, ‘This is it!’”

Elton and David tried to adopt a child from the Ukraine last year but were denied the adoption based on Elton‘s advanced age (62) and his hectic travel schedule (as a music performer). Since that time, Elton and David revealed that they really wanted to become parents … so they went about planning for the surrogate conception and birth of their son Zachary Jackson. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that Elton and David‘s becoming parents has fulfilled a dream of many … many same-sex couples that would like to have children of their own and have taken inspiration from high profile couples like Elton and David and Neil Patrick Harris and his partner David Burtka (who became happy parents of twin children born from a surrogate mother back in October). Congrats, again, to the happy new dads … here’s to a long and very happy life of fatherhood :D
