The Young, Black, and Fabulous

SPORTS FAB: UConn Women's Basketball Team Smashes College Basketball History

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 09:05 AM PST

They are the definition of sporty fab chicks.  Yesterday the No. 1-ranked Connecticut women’s basketball team topped the 88-game winning streak set by UCLA men’s team in 1971-74, by beating Florida State, 93-62.  Deets inside...

The UConn women's basketball team now owns the longest winnning streak in college basketball history with 89 consecutive victories. UConn defeated Florida State 93-62 in front of a sold out crowd of 16,294 at the XL Center on Tuesday night.

The UConn team's run was so fab, only twice has a team come within single digits of beating this current team — Stanford in the NCAA championship game last season and Baylor in early November.

Now the big question is....which WNBA teams are about to start blowing up these ladies' phones...

CONGRATS LADIES!

Rihanna was spotted out shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills yesterday.  Looks like we're not the only ones last minute pimpin' it:

She stopped by our fave section--shoes and shoes alike.

And even stopped to sign some autographs.  Cute laid back look.

And over in Aspen, CO where the rich and famous love to play during the Holiday....

Zoe Saldana and her fiance' Keith Britton went shopping in the downtown area yesterday.

Steve Harvey and his wife Marjorie are there as well.

The Calvin Klein model/actress and her beau looked pretty happy.  Fine holiday fun.

VIDEO: Antoine Dodson's "Christmas Intruder" song + Shaq Leads Boston Orchestra

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 08:16 AM PST

Antoine Dodson is back with a new Christmas song and Boston Celtics center Shaquille O'Neal is enjoying his time in Boston. Find out about the song and Shaq's orchestra adventure when you read on...

Here's Antoine Dodson's new hit 'Christmas Intruder'. He debuted his video on "Lopez Tonight".

I see this ish aint ending anytime soon.  Funny funny though.

In his lifetime, Shaq has been an actor, rapper, sheriff, basketball player, and now he can put conductor on his resume. Last night, Shaq put on his tux and tails (pictured above) and conducted the Boston Pops orchestra. He led them through two songs, 'Sleigh Ride' and 'We Are The Champions'. Shaq also said he has a greater respect for conductors because his arms were 'shot' afterwards.  I feel like a joke about the correlation between his arm pains and his free throws could be inserted here.  But I digress....

Here's the video:

Leave it to Shaq to do some craziness like this.  Funny.

LEGAL DRAMA: Court Finds Fantasia's Lover Was Separated From Wife During Time Of Affair?!

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 07:23 AM PST

Fantasia got some really great news for the holidays as a North Carolina court found that her lover Antwaun Cook was indeed separated from his wife during their affair.  Deets inside...

RadarOnline.com reports that a North Carolina judge ruled in favor of Antwaun Cook in his divorce proceeding against ex-wife Paula saying the pair’s separation date was September 14, 2009 and not June, 2010, as Paula had claimed.  Not sure which standards rthe court used, but I'm sure Paula (and others) beg to differ.

This is great news for Fantasia, though, as it allows her to argue she did not willingly or knowingly bust up the marriage of Paula and Antwaun.  Paula had claimed Fantasia knew Antwaun was married and went after him anyway.

How this finding will play out on Paula’s plan to sue Fanny under North Carolina’s unique Alienation of Affection law is not known.  But it's looking pretty good for ya girl right now.   Wives Club 1, Homewreckers Association 0.

UPDATE - HOT 97 Suspends DJ Cipha Sounds

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 06:46 AM PST

Emmis Communications' HOT 97 announced today the indefinite suspension of DJ Cipha Sounds in response to negative comments he made regarding HIV and the Haitian community.  Deets inside...

In response to pressure from local activists, HOT 97 announced a three-part plan to address a recent comment made on-air by DJ Cipha Sounds.

First, the station announced that DJ Cipha Sounds has been suspended indefinitely.

Second, Cipha will undertake sensitivity training focused on the Haitian community and specifically, the challenges the Haitian community has faced in terms of the HIV epidemic.

Lastly, HOT 97 will work with local community leaders to utilize the influence of HOT 97 to increase awareness of HIV and community programs to address the HIV epidemic.

Alex Cameron, SVP/Market Manager of Emmis-New York said,

"Cipha made an immediate public apology and recognizes his insensitivity and the negative impact his comments have on all Haitians.  The Haitian community is an important part of our listenership whom we respect and value. The suspension is an indication of the importance we place on delivering a product that respects our Haitian audience. It's a very regrettable and unfortunate circumstance for all involved and particularly because we know this is not the nature of this young man who has been an advocate of the Haitian community and a big part of our fundraising efforts for Haiti. He is committed to working with the Haitian community to make a difference and turn this negative incident into an opportunity for increased learning and awareness."

LOOK AT ME NOW: Paul Wall Loses 100 Pounds!

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 05:54 AM PST

Screwston, TX rapper Paul Wall just did an interview with Ozone Magazine and talked about how he lost a whopping 100 pounds.  He says he weighed 320 pounds pre-surgery.  Ever heard of "gastric sleeve?" See his before and after pics when you read on...

'The People's Champ' Paul Wall weighed nearly 320 pounds at one point. Although he tried to lose the weight naturally by dieting and exercise, the rapper says neither of these techniques worked.  Here's a piece of his interview with Ozone Magazine.

Ozone: When did you decide to get serious about losing weight?

Paul Wall: "Honestly, when we were in Afghanistan and [reps for VH1's] Celebrity Fit Club were contacting [me] about coming on the show. That was a hell of a wake-up call. [Being fat] isn’t a secret. You can look in the mirror and try to hide it and cover it up, and it may work here or there, but there ain’t no shirt or hat you can put on or haircut you can get to hide the fact that you’re morbidly obese. That’s what the doctor said: I was “morbidly obese.” I decided not to do [the show] but it was still a wake-up call to have people calling you saying, “Hey, you’re really, really fat.” "

Ozone: What kind of weight-loss surgery did you get?

Paul Wall: "The surgery I got is called gastric sleeve. There’s three kinds: gastric bypass, lap band, and the gastric sleeve. Gastric bypass is the one where you lose the most weight the quickest; it’s for people who are 400-500 pounds and have health problems that they need to fix right away. Since [the weight loss] happens so fast it leaves you with a lot of saggy skin. The lap band, which is very popular, is when they put a band around your stomach and it makes you feel like you’re full, so you don’t eat. But there’s ways to cheat with it, and with the lap band, you can always get it removed to go back to normal. [My weight] has been up and down my whole life, so I wanted to do something to permanently fix the problem. Since going back and forth on the drugs for years and taking diet pills, my metabolism was really gone. So I decided to go with the gastric sleeve, because it’s a little more serious than the lap band. They also cut out the hormones that make you hungry. So I actually don’t even get hungry anymore. The doctor talked me out of doing the lap band; he told me it’s the most popular, but it’s not as effective. With the lap band, you lose about 50% of your excess weight. I was 120 pounds overweight. I weighed 320 pounds, and I’m six feet tall. So with the lap band I still would’ve been morbidly obese. With the gastric sleeve, you typically lose 80% of your excess fat. I lost 100 pounds with it, so that’s putting me in a more healthy weight class."

Ozone: Having lost 100 pounds, do you see a noticeable difference in your life?

Paul Wall: "Yeah, hands down. I feel like I got my life back. When you’re so big like that, it’s embarrassing. I didn’t want to go out and be seen. I felt uncomfortable because I’m not used to being that big. People would see me and say something about it, because it was no secret. I was morbidly obese, 120 pounds overweight. It was just embarrassing. I’d be on stage feeling like I was about to collapse. I’d get dizzy spells. I’d be on the airplane and have to ask for seatbelt extensions. Once you go up in the air, it’s really hard to breath. I was just thinking, “What if I have a heart attack?” I want to be here for my kids. I don’t want to have a heart attack. My son is four and my daughter is two and a half. The doctor told me that when you’re 50 pounds overweight, it takes 15 years off your life. So it literally saved my life."

Ozone: Have you been working out too?

Paul Wall: "Nah. I’ve probably worked out twice since I had [the surgery] and that was just a light workout."

The after shot is something dramatic.  The rapper released a new mixtape called 'Sole Music' last week and is gearing up for his next album titled 'Heart of a Champion' which drops July 13.

Congrats to him and good luck with the journey.

HOT 97 OUTRAGE - DJ Cipha Sounds Says "I'm H-I-V negative...because I don't mess with Haitian girls"

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 03:42 PM PST

There is an outrage brewing on the air waves in NYC and it ain't two rappers beefing.  Last week DJ Cipha Sounds on-air comment "The reason I'm H-I-V negative is because I don't mess with Haitian girls" has people P.O.ed.  Get the deets inside...

A group of activists, protestors and local leaders in New York city are asking that a local radio DJ be fired after outrageous comments made on the air last week at HOT 97.

Last week DJ Cipha Sounds said on-air "The reason I'm H-I-V negative is because I don't mess with Haitian girls" and this has angered Haitians Americans and others across the city.

Although he immediately issued an on-air apology and posted the apology on YouTube, local activists say it's not enough.

Activists point to previous broadcasts by Hot 97, such as a song making fun of tsunami victims back in 2005, as other examples of the station not being responsible.

"We are here together to ensure that Mr. Diaz be removed from this station," said New York City Councilman Matthieu Eugene.

"If we feel that they are not addressing it, I suggest we take our business and air to another station," New York City Councilman Jumaane Williams said.

The coalition leaders say they will keep the pressure on, until DJ Cipha is properly disciplined.  So we will be hearing a lot more of this because Hot 97 management has, so far, not responded to requests for comment. SMH.

Kelis In Legal Trouble Over Her Money?!

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 12:41 PM PST

Kelis is facing legal trouble with a production company following her European tour. We've got the deets on the lawsuit when you read on...

A production company named Drive Talent is suing Kelis claiming they have not been paid for production costs in the amount of $11, 800. Kelis and her reps claim that this is untrue and they have paid Drive Talent in full. They are also filing a lawsuit against the company stating Drive Talent spent money on a vendor they hired without approval from Kelis or her management.

In a statement sent directly to TheYBF.com from Tracy Nguyen, Kelis' publicist, Kelis' camp says:

"Drive Talent has been paid in full for services rendered for the assistance in production for various TV performances. Any claims stating otherwise is clearly an effort to gain press attention. The amount claimed to be owed is not for services rendered which Drive Talent would like the public to believe but over a dispute stemming from a European promotional run in which Drive Talent authorized the spend of close to $11,800 of the artist's money to a vendor they hired without approval from either the artist or management. We look forward to presenting our case in court and are confident once a review has been made of all evidence we have to support our argument that it will be clear Drive Talent has absolutely no ground whatsoever to stand on."

Good luck in court Kelis.

WOMP: Thugs Break Into 50 Cent's Mansion!

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 11:08 AM PST

I guess you shouldn't brag about your riches on wax as two thugs just broke into 50 Cent's mega-mansion this morning.  But that's not all...police found one of the burglars getting tipsy off 50's wine stash.  Deets inside...

The 52-room mega-mansion belonging to 50 Cent, and once owned by Mike Tyson, was broken into this morning by two robbers.

According to TMZ, police arrived at the scene after security guards at the mansion called the cops to report a suspicious vehicle in the driveway.  Once on the scene, cops arrested one of the men but had to go looking for the other.  And where did they find him?  The second man, identified as Alexander Hernandez (red shirt) was hiding in one of 50's closets getting tipsy on a bottle of wine he found at the crib. SMH.

Both suspects entered the mansion through an unlocked door and were in possession of marijuana.  They were arrested and are being held on $50,000 bond.  But was it the GOOD wine though?

BEEFY: Foxy Brown Announces New Lil' Kim Diss Track

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 09:06 AM PST

From Tupac vs. Biggie to Ja-Rule vs. 50 Cent to Jay-Z vs. Nas...it seems like the fellas in the rap game have pretty much chilled and the only ones beefing are the females.  Now Foxy Brown is back in the game with a soon-to-be released Lil' Kim diss track. Deets inside...

Foxy Brown has announced the coming of a Lil' Kim diss record that her press release calls "the most anticipated response since Jay-Z's "Takeover."  Their words...not mine.

Called "Christmas Massacre," Foxy's new single will drop at an undisclosed Christmas party in Brooklyn on December 24th.  On the track, Foxy sends a shout out to her girl Nicki Minaj and addresses her issues with Kim.

Isn't this Lil' Kim vs. Foxy beef over ten-years old?  With them both being in their 30's, it's like still fighting with some girl from 10th grade. SMH.

But good luck with the comeback Foxy.  Wet & Wild kisses to you.....
