Britney Spears: Comic Book Hero

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 01:40 PM PST

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has one, Betty White has one … even the entire cast of Glee has one — now Britney Spears has one, too! Our dear Britney will be featured in her very own comic book from Bluewater Productions in March (the very same month her new album will be released). Here is our first look at Britney‘s soon-to-be-released comic book:

Oops!…Bluewater Productions Did It Again — with another comic book about a famous pop star, “Fame: Britney Spears.” The solicitation copy for the comic, which hits stands in March, describes the story as follows:

“Britney Spears — the most famous superstar of the 21st century. What does it take to reach those heights in the Internet Age? What are the hidden costs when every move makes the headlines? More than an entertainment powerhouse. More than a dancer and musician. Britney Spears is a survivor!”

Will the comic, written by CW Cooke and pencilled by Ricardo Jaime, cover Britney’s days in the Mickey Mouse Club? The infamous head-shaving incident? Her triumphant comeback?

This is fantastic! I know I’ll be buying at least 5 copies. My guess is that, yes, the comic book will cover Britney‘s stellar career but will gloss over (or leave out entirely) the more stickier parts of her life story. To be honest, I could care less if they leave all the bad stuff in or not … I MUST own the Britney Spears comic book. Woot!! How awesome is this?! How many copies will YOU be buying when Fame: Britney Spears is released next year?

Eminem Selects His Next Movie Role

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 01:25 PM PST

After making a bit of a splash back in 2002 in his feature film debut in 8 Mile (a film which won him an Academy Award for Best Song), Eminem is finally returning to the big screen. Deadline is reporting that Em has signed on to star in a boxing film being produced by Dreamworks. Eminem‘s new film is titled Southpaw:

reamWorks has made a preemptive acquisition of Southpaw, a pitch for a star vehicle for Eminem (Marshall Mathers) that will be written by Sons of Anarchy creator/exec producer Kurt Sutter. Like in Eminem’s 2002 screen starring debut 8 Mile, Southpaw will be fueled by the struggles that inform Eminem’s music and mirror his life. Eminem will play a fast-rising welterweight boxer who brawls his way to the title, only to see his world crash down around him due to tragedy. The movie is about his fight to reclaim past glory … The film will be produced by Eminem’s Shady Films’ managers and producing partners Paul Rosenberg and Stuart Parr, and Alan and Peter Riche of Riche Productions. The deal comes as Eminem’s comeback album, Recovery, just got 10 Grammy Awards nominations … Sutter will begin writing immediately, and he will complete a draft by February, before he and his Anarchy writers begin to plot the fourth season of the series. “There is a rich story her that references his own experience, and I was honored to be able to continue a relationship that began with 8 Mile,” Snider told me. She’ll steer the project with DreamWorks co-president Mark Sourian.

Well it’s about damn time! I totally understand why Em has not taken on any movie roles in the past 8 years considering all the hardships he’s been thru but it is really great news that he is ready to act again. I loved his performance in 8 Mile and I am really anxious to see if he’s got it inside him to bring the skills again. What do y’all think … are you excited to see Eminem on the big screen again?

Christina Aguilera Celebrates Her 30th Birthday With Matthew Rutler

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 01:10 PM PST

Christina Aguilera, who is undoubtedly celebrating all the Golden Globe nominations her new film Burlesque nabbed today, was in an altogether different kind of celebratory mood last weekend. Xtina, currently in London promoting her new film, celebrated her 30th birthday a wee bit early at a private party with new boyfriend Matthew Rutler … behold:

It looks like Christina Aguilera’s relationship with new boyfriend Matt Rutler is going from strength to strength. The singer is currently in London promoting new film Burlesque. And on Saturday night, she went to the film premiere’s afterparty with Rutler in tow. Wearing a tight black dress that showed plenty of plunging cleavage, the singer had her blonde hair in waves and her usual swipe of red lipstick. Aguilera turned 30 on Saturday and her upcoming milestone was celebrated at the premiere after party, which was hosted by jewellery designer Stephen Webster. Webster presenter the singer with a ring from one of his own collections and Rutler gave her a special birthday cake.

New year, new man … Xtina‘s got it all figured out. I suppose congratulations are in order for the newly single Xtina … she must surely be riding high that her feature film debut is doing so well straight out of the gate. She has a lot to celebrate and be thankful for these days … which isn’t usually the case for divorcing women. Happy early Birthday and Congrats, again, Xtina!!

Hugh Jackman Drops In On ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 12:57 PM PST

Last week we got to see some of the first photos of Oprah Winfrey‘s first visit to Australia ahead of a series of special episodes of The Oprah Winfrey Show which are being taped there this week. Today’s show, which was taped yesterday in Oz, featured a guest appearance by famous Aussie Hugh Jackman. He thought it would be neat to drop in on Oprah by way of zip line … and he almost lost an eye in the process. Here are a few photos and the gory deets of his ill-fated stunt:

As far as entrances go, it was certainly a painful one. Action man Hugh Jackman was left with a bad cut under his eye after sliding down a cable from the top of the Sydney Opera House towards a giant outdoor stage where Oprah Winfrey was recording the second of her Australian shows. But the 42-year-old actor failed to stop, crashing into the stage’s light rigging and hurting his face. After being lowered from the 100-yard zip wire, paramedics rushed onto the stage to tend to him, with all the drama being captured live on television. One of the medics even gave him a hug as host Oprah rushed over, suspending her show while the X-Men star was treated. ‘I’m not 100 per cent, actually,’ he said as he struggled to free himself from the harness while dangling 30ft in the air. ‘I’ve hurt my eye – it’s not bad. I’m really sorry about this.’ As blood began to run down his cheek from a bad cut below his right eye, Oprah hurried across to him and called for aid. ‘Let’s take a break and get some ice,’ she said. No less than six paramedics took Jackman off the stage as he held a towel to his face.

D’oh! I mean … talk about embarrassing stunts. Poor Hugh. It’s bad enough that he had to injure himself on camera but to do so on one of the planet’s most popular talk shows which is getting even more attention due to the special nature of being taped in Australia … poor Hugh. Well, the embarrassment doesn’t end with mere photos. After the jump, check out video of Hugh‘s exciting yet painful stunt …

Aww … poor Hugh. I hope he wasn’t injured too badly and that he will heal right as rain as quickly as possible.

Ryan Reynolds & Scarlett Johansson Are Dunzo!

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 12:13 PM PST

Uh oh! We’ve got another celebrity break-up to discuss … and this one is even bigger than Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter‘s split. The very married Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson have split up! Despite the fact that both Ryan and Scarlett have recently professed their love for one another in the press, TMZ reports that the couple are living apart and are planning to divorce. Sad but true, ScRyan are dunzo, y’all!

TMZ has learned Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson have separated. We’re told Ryan and Scarlett are living apart. And we’re told it’s amicable. We’re told Ryan and Scarlett are living apart. And we’re told it’s amicable. Ryan and Scarlett released a statement through their rep, telling TMZ,

“After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”

Ryan told GQ in September, Scarlett was “the best part” of his life, though he said having a family was “a few years down the road.” Ryan was named PEOPLE magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive last month. Interesting — the couple was rarely seen out together. The most visible appearance — at the Tony Awards this past June. The couple was married in September, 2008.

It’s strange, the couple kinda popped up out of nowhere when they started going out … then the secret wedding … and now the sudden split. Doesn’t it kinda sound like they rushed into things a bit and ended up figuring out that they weren’t meant to be married? As you may recall, Ryan was engaged to Alanis Morissette shortly before he left her for Scarlett … now Alanis is happily married and expecting the birth of her first child. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about the death of ScRyan in the days to come … still, as surprising as this news is … I can’t say I’m totally shocked. What do y’all think?

Getting Back To ‘Normal’

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 11:45 AM PST

I have safely and happily made my way back home from my frigid and snowy home state of Michigan to the warmer climes of California … and it feels good to be home. Even tho I had a lot of fun in Detroit, I really really REALLY hate the cold and the snow so … yeah, I was itching a bit to get back home. I did manage to bring a bit of my home with me to LA … my mom scrounged up my class rings, yearbooks and other school memorabilia so that I could bring them home with me:

I think I’m finally ready to ask David to go steady with me so … he’ll get to wear my high school class ring if he says yes. I know that many folks have asked for high school photos of me but I just can’t find the strength to embarrass myself like that just yet … maybe some day but, nope, not yet.

So yeah … I’m home again … and for a while ;) Tonight, David and I have tickets to see the Broadway musical Next to Normal which is in production here in LA for a few weeks:

We both saw it on Broadway in NYC last year but not together. He loved the show so much he wanted to see it again so … that’s what we’re doing! Happy Tuesday, y’all … it’s great to be home!!

Chelsea Handler Shares An Intimate New Photo With 50 Cent

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 10:56 AM PST

Back in October, we saw a photo of comedienne Chelsea Handler and rapper 50 Cent lookin’ all coupley and cozy … but soon thereafter, Chelsea denied that she and 50 were romantically involved. Since then, the couple have surfaced together causing folks to wonder … are they or aren’t they? Last night, Chelsea posted a new photo on her official Twitter profile … a photo that shows her laying in bed with 50 … behold:

I don’t know why anyone thinks I would ever date a rapper.

HMMM. Because she’s a funny lady, it’s hard to tell if Chelsea‘s just playing around with us OR if she’s seriously involved with Mr. Cent. Chances are the couple are knockin’ boots and are using the chatter about their possible relationship to mask whatever it is that they are doing together. By putting it out there in a photo like this, she is deflecting what could really be going on. HMMM. Do you think these two are actually involved or are they just playing around with us?

Ryan Gosling Does ‘GQ’ Magazine

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 10:02 AM PST

Ryan Gosling, who stars in the newly rated R film Blue Valentine out later this year, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of GQ magazine. In his coverstory interview, Ryan talks about Xmas, his deli job, karma and more. Here is our first look at Ryan‘s GQ coverphoto and some excerpts from his interview:

"The path of the Reluctant Movie Star has been well worn at least since Brando, but few have walked it as doggedly and resolutely as Gosling," writes GQ correspondent Brett Martin. All of Ryan Gosling's roles, with the exception of The Notebook, have been "small, odd, and metaphysically mysterious." Even his two latest movies, All Good Things and Blue Valentine, "do little to alter the perception that he will only do those things that appeal to his own, confident sense of what's worth doing." The two spent time together at some of Gosling's favorite L.A. spots, including the Magic Castle and The Varnish, discussing family (he comes from a "family of believers") and his various jobs outside of acting (including working at a local deli). Gosling says his latest film (with rumblings of an Oscar nod), Blue Valentine, is the best he'll ever make.

Ryan Gosling on his family's willful suspension of disbelief:
"My mother still believes in Santa Claus. We tried to break it to her once, but she wasn't having it. There are very few believers in the world, but my mother is one of them. I don't know if she'd admit that this is why she does it, but it's just more fun to believe in Santa than not to."

…on why he got a job at a deli after his Hollywood hit, The Notebook:
" 'I'd never had a real job,' he says. The problem with Hollywood, he goes on, is that nobody works. 'They have meals. They go to Pilates. But it's not enough. So they do drugs. If everybody had a pile of rocks in their backyard and spent every day moving them from one side of the yard to the other, it would be a much happier place.' "

…on expecting retribution from his success:
"Look, this is crazy. I don't understand how I'm here, living this life, wearing this suit. I assume I'm going to pay for it someday…. And that's okay. It seems fair to me. I just want to be ready for it. I want to meet it like a gentleman."

Ryan Gosling is as down to Earth as they come. He really strikes me as the kind of guy that would make a fiercely loyal and fun friend. Not only does he continue to impress me with each acting role he takes on but I’m also very impressed with the way he carries himself interviews like this one. After the jump, check out some of the photos from Ryan‘s GQ photospread — they are very cool and very much worth checking out …

Aren’t these so cool? While I will admit that the use of shadows in this way does feel a bit art student-like, I think the framing of each photo was done expertly. The photos were shot by famed photographer Mario Testino (who just photographed Prince William and Kate Middleton for their official engagement photos) so you know they have to be cool. This issue of GQ hits newsstands on December 21.

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 09:23 AM PST

On Stranger Tides won’t be in movie theaters until May 20 of next year … but here, at last, is our first look at the film:

This first look at the film has all of the elements that we’ve been hearing about for months now … Penélope Cruz, Blackbeard the Pirate, the mermaids and of course Captain Jack Sparrow. Check out the trailer in full for yourselves, after the jump …

This looks really fun! I’m glad that Capt. Jack is back for another round of pirate fun … and now that we know that there will be a 5th and 6th movie to come, we can hopefully look forward to a lot more action and adventure. I’m diggin’ this trailer … are you?

The 2011 Golden Globe Nominations Have Been Announced

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 08:09 AM PST

The nominations for the 2011 Golden Globe Awards have been announced, which annually signal to the world the official start of the Hollywood awards season. The noms have only been out a few hours and they’ve already got many folks buzzing … first, about the films who scored nominations (Red?! The Tourist?! ALICE IN WONDERLAND?!?!) and the films and actors who did NOT receive nominations (True Grit was completely shut out of the big film categories). Here’s a run down of who was nominated for what — and who wasn’t — for the 2011 Golden Globe Awards:

A proper British story. A gritty gym-rat drama. A Showgirls-esque opus starring Cher and Christina Aguilera. We cannot wait to see the seating arrangements at the Beverly Hilton … The King’s Speech, the critically acclaimed historical drama about King George VI, cemented its reputation as the film to beat at the Oscars with a Globes-best seven nominations. The Fighter, the Mark Wahlberg-produced boxing biopic, and The Social Network, the Facebook movie, earned six nods each. Burlesque, the “dishwater dull,” “crockpot-stew of leftovers” backstage dance movie, received two more nominations than Toy Story 3, including one big one for Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. Angelina Jolie’s and Johnny Depp’s even more critically dismissed The Tourist had an equally good day, likewise picking up three nods, and likewise competing for Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. The television categories were led by Glee, which glided right past any perceived second-season storyline woes with five nominations. As expected, The King’s Speech will vie for Best Motion Picture Drama against The Social Network, The Fighter, Inception and Black Swan. If you had faith that the star-worshipping Hollywood Foreign Press would not disappoint with a “crazy” nomination (or two), then you were not at all surprised that Burlesque and The Tourist will compete for Motion Picture Comedy or Musical opposite Alice in Wonderland, The Kids Are All Right and the oldester action flick Red. Of those films, only The Kids Are All Right is considered legit Oscar material.

There is a lot of craziness in this year’s Golden Globe nominations. Except for the True Grit omission, the Best Drama Film category is pretty spot on (The King’s Speech, The Social Network, The Fighter, Inception and Black Swan). The Best Comedy or Musical category is complete idiocy! Except for The Kids are Alright, none of the other films IMHO is worthy of the nomination. From what I understand (because I did not see the film), The Tourist is neither a comedy nor a musical … and yet, it got a nomination (as did both Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in the acting categories). Alice In Wonderland, while a cute movie, is simply not nearly good enough to be considered an award contender. To be honest, some of the noms read more like they came from the MTV Movie Awards rather than the second biggest film awards show of the year. Thankfully, the big important films (The Social Network, Black Swan, The King’s Speech) got noms … but they stand alongside the worst films of the year for awards … it makes no sense. Click HERE for a full run-down of just-announced Golden Globe nominations and make sure you tune in on January 16 to find out who gets to go home with awards this year. What do y’all think of this year’s nominations? Do you agree with me that members of the Hollywood Foreign Press were smokin’ Salvia when they came up with some of this year’s noms?

Zac Efron & Vanessa Hudgens Are Dunzo!

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 07:35 AM PST

Dexter co-stars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter aren’t the only celeb couple calling it quits this weekHigh School Musical co-stars and real life sweethearts Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens have, too, decided to end their relationship. Altho Zanessa were not attached in any legal sense, they’ve been dating for years! But, alas, young love can be a fickle thing. Zac and Vanessa are dunzo, y’all!

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are over … The two, who started dating when they were just teenagers costarring in the hit High School Musical franchise, recently called it quits. “It’s nothing dramatic,” one source said. “There’s no third party involved.” Says another source, “They were together for so long. It just ran its course.” Sources insist they remain friends.

While Zanessa lasted longer than I thought they would I can’t say I’m terribly surprised that their relationship has run its course. They are both so young, it makes sense that they would decide to test the waters with other folks. To be honest, I really liked Zac and Vanessa together … they made a great pair and seemed well-suited for one another. Who knows, maybe they’ll end up together again some day? In the meantime, I’ll be very interested to see who they’ll each hook up with next.

Wouldn’t Zac make a great boyfriend for Taylor Swift?

Michael C. Hall & Jennifer Carpenter Are Dunzo!

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 07:08 AM PST

Very sad news to pass along today … Dexter co-stars and real life husband and wife Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter have decided to end their marriage after only about 2 years together. I first got word of this split while on an airplane late yesterday and I literally gasped out loud and frightened the woman seated next to me. Needless to say, I was very shocked and bummed to hear the news that MCH and Jennifer Carpenter are dunzo:

After nearly two years of marriage, Dexter stars Michael C. Hall, 39, and Jennifer Carpenter, 31, are divorcing. An exclusive joint statement to EW from their representatives read: "Having been separated for some time, Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall have filed for divorce." Both reps add that the split was amicable. The couple — who met on the set of the Showtime drama, in which she plays his foster sister — married on December 31, 2008. Hall completed treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma earlier this year.

I have to admit … I thought it was odd when it was first reported that MCH and Jennifer were dating, but only because they play brother and sister on Dexter and I had a hard time seeing them as non relations. But once I got used to the idea that they were romantically involved, I really loved them together. When MCH endured his cancer battle and came out victorious, I was so happy to know that Jennifer was by his side the whole way. We do not know what the cause of the split was nor do we know when the couple first became separated … but we do know now that the couple are over. As you may know, the 5th season of Dexter just ended on Sunday and then news of the split came yesterday on Monday … it’s clear they held off on announcing the news until the Dexter finale. Since they are both very talented professionals, I don’t expect this split to ruin their working relationship on the show (Dexter will be back for Season 6) but still … it’s a major bum out :(
