The US Senate Votes To Repeal The US Military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 12:25 PM PST

Earlier today, History was made here in the United States of America. By a vote of 63–33, the US Senate voted to cut off debate on the US Military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy which bans gays and lesbians from serving openly in all branches of the US military and moved the matter forward to a final vote that just took place in Washington DC to officially repeal the policy. By a vote of 65–31 (when only a simple majority vote of 51 was needed), the US Senate has officially voted to repeal the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy … paving the way for gays and lesbians to serve openly in the US Military. Now, there is still a bit of procedural work to be done and a mandatory 60 day grace period has to take place but the days of the US Military's discrimination against gays and lesbians are OVER!

Capping a 17-year political struggle, the Senate on Saturday cleared the way for repealing the Pentagon's ban on gay men and lesbians serving openly in the military. By a vote of 63 to 33, with six Republicans joining Democrats, the Senate acted to cut off debate on a measure that would let President Obama declare an end to the Clinton-era policy, known as "don't ask, don't tell," which allows gay members of the armed forces to serve only if they keep their sexual orientation a secret. The vote indicated that there was easily enough support to push the measure to final passage. "By ending 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' no longer will our nation be denied the service of thousands of patriotic Americans forced to leave the military, despite years of exemplary performance, because they happen to be gay," Mr. Obama said in a statement after the cloture vote. "And no longer will many thousands more be asked to live a lie in order to serve the country they love." The vote put Congress at the brink of a historic moment that some equated with the decision to end racial segregation in the military. It followed a review by the Pentagon that found little concern in the military about ending the ban and that was backed by Pentagon officials as a better alternative to a court-ordered end. Backers of the repeal said it was long past time to end what they saw as a discriminatory practice that cost valuable personnel and forced troops to lie to serve their country. "I don't care who you love," Senator Ron Wyden, Democrat of Oregon, said as the debate opened. "If you love this country enough to risk your life for it, you shouldn't have to hide who you are."

This amazing and momentous news continues, after the jump …

By a vote of 65 to 31, the Senate sent the bill to President Obama, who had campaigned on ending the Clinton-era policy known as "don't ask, don't tell," which allows gay members of the armed forces to serve only if they keep their sexual orientation a secret. A cloture vote of 63–33 earlier in the day had indicated that there was easily enough support to push the measure to final passage. The House had passed the measure, 250 to 175, on Wednesday.

The matter now goes to the desk of President Obama for his signature next week. Once he signs, the procedural work gets underway and in roughly 60 days from now (mebbe a bit more), the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy will be COMPLETELY DUNZO! It should be noted that Senator John McCain has argued to the bitter end to keep the discriminatory policy in place, proving that he is no leader … and that he will be remembered for all time on the losing end of History. This repeal of DADT is a monumental move forward in the advancement of equal rights in this country. I can hardly contain myself … it is a happy, happy day indeed!!

Peaches Saves

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 12:15 PM PST

Last night, David and I made our way to The Orpheum Theater in downtown LA to see Peaches live in concert. To be honest, I wasn't at all sure what to expect from a concert that was being called Peaches Christ Superstar but I was totally surprised and WOWED by what we got. Peaches performed the entire soundtrack to Jesus Christ Superstar all by herself with only a piano accompaniment. Peaches's longtime collaborator Chilly Gonzalez played piano and Peaches sang … the entire Jesus Christ Superstar show all by herself:

My good friend Tony was at the show as well last night (in fact, he and I have been seeing Peaches in concert for years now) and he took these fantastic photos. I don't think I can adequately convey how impressed I was with last night's performance. In this show, Peaches not only showed how fantastic a performer she is but she showcased how amazing a singer she is as well. This is a show I wished so many people would see … because I know they would be absolutely blown away. After the jump, check out video of one of the songs that Peaches performed live on stage last for Peaches Christ Superstar

This clip of What's the Buzz? from the show gives you a small taste of what the whole performance was like:

Her performance of King Herod's Song was, by far, my favorite of the night … but truly, the whole show was a masterpiece. Click HERE to read an interview that Peaches gave to the LA Times that explains how this show came about. I believe she performs Peaches Christ Superstar in San Francisco, CA tonight and has one more performance in Toronto, CA left. If you get the chance, see this show. I think it will blow you away like it did me.

Clay Aiken Finds Himself A Hot New Texas Boyfriend

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 11:17 AM PST

Back in July we learned the sad news that former American Idol Clay Aiken had broken up with his Broadway actor boyfriend Reed Kelly but today we learn the happy news that Clay has found himself a new hunk of beefcake in Texas. A Pink reader who wishes remain nameless has given me the head's up that Clay has found new love with a local community theater actor in Texas named Jeff Walters:

According to my source and lots of chatter on Twitter this week, Clay has been spending a lot of time with Jeff in Texas this week. Clay was in attendance at a local production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in Dallas to see Jeff in the role of Rocky. The couple then were spotted at a performance of The Drowsy Chaperon the following night then they showed up at the Gaylord Texan Ice Show the day after. In the days that followed, Clay and Jeff made coupley appearances at Pinkberry, Borders Bookstore and at the movies to see Black Swan. It turns out that Jeff Walters is also a part-time model for 2(x)ist underwear. After the jump, check out a few of his promo photos in his undies to see exactly what Clay has gotten himself sprung on …

Oh yeah … I can deffo see the appeal. But, as hot as these 2(x)ist photos are, I really prefer the cute photo of Clay and Jeff featured above (that was taken at the Gaylord Texan Ice Show). They look happy and it sounds like they are having a great time together. Who knows, this might be true lurve for the both of them ;)

[thanks Tex]

Paris Hilton Unveils Her Very Own MotoGP Racing Team

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 10:35 AM PST

Back in September we got to check out a cheesy-as-Hell music video made by Paris Hilton for SuperMartxé and today we learn that she has taken her collaboration with them one step further. Paris made an appearance in Madrid, Spain today to officially unveil and launch her own MotoGP racing team — called SuperMartxé VIP by Paris Hilton, of course:

As reported by over a dozen Europen sites, bombshell Paris Hilton is scheduled to present her 2011 MotoGP Team — SuperMartxe VIP by Paris Hilton — that will compete in the 2011 FIM Motorcycling Championship 2011 in the 125cc class. The announcement is scheduled for Dec. 18, 2010 at the ME Hotel in Madrid Spain, which will be the first press conference for the MotoGP Team … The Supermartxe VIP Bikes Team by Paris Hilton has the ambition of becoming the World Champions in the MotoGP 125cc displacement class before the new Moto3 single-cylinder four-stroke 250cc rules take effect in 2012. The 125cc racing team is joined the technical mastery of Christian Lundberg and Rossano Brazzi, who combined with the talented motorcycle riders should make for a highly competitive team. The entire motorcycle racing world and MotoGP might find an even larger spotlight due to the main stream notoriety. If Paris actual shows for a motorcycle race or two (I can't image her dog trackside) and brings all the paparazzi, things could get interesting for other main stream advertisers.

Yeah, I don't even know what to say. Nothing about Paris Hilton immediately screams to me MotoGP spokesmodel but … there you have it. I imagine it may be seen as a boon by the SuperMartxé to have Paris in their corner but … I think it's all just really silly. LMAO!!

Kingston James McGregor Is A Little Drummer Boy

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 09:58 AM PST

Kingston James McGregor, the eldest son of Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, got himself a plumb role in the Xmas pageant at the family church this year — in the annual Xmas Nativity Play, little Kingston played the role of Little Drummer Boy … here are a couple of photos of Kingston on stage during this week's performance:

He's obviously following in the footsteps of his famous parents. Kingston Rossdale made his stage debut Thursday in Los Angeles and his proud mother, Gwen Stefani, father Gavin Rossdale and little brother Zuma were there to cheer him on. The four-year-old took centre stage and sang The Little Drummer boy as part of a nativity play at a local church … He looked adorable dressed in his drummer boy costume of black suit, white shirt and festive red jacket, with his drum hung around his neck. An eyewitness says that Kingston started off a little nervously but soon gained his stage chops and gave a rousing rendition. 'He knew all the words and didn't slip up once and he clearly loved performing in front of an audience,' the witness says. 'He showed no signs at all of stage fright and he seems to be a natural entertainer' … Kingston's famous parents and 2-year-old Zuma hung around after their son's stage debut, talking with the other parents, posing for photographs and signing autographs. 'They were having a great time together,' the eyewitness says. 'Gwen was happy to pose for photos with fans and spent ages talking with everyone. 'She was spending time with her family but she was very gracious and didn't seem to mind posing. 'But afterwards she wanted to get back to her kids. You can tell she loves being a mum and she is simply amazing with her two boys.'

Okay … now this is cute, y'all. I have NO DOUBT at all that Kingston will grow up to be a star … or, at least, a little ham. He's already shown a penchant for reveling in the attention he and his famous family get … it's only a matter of time before he decides to strike out on his own and attain his own fame. This is just the beginning, you just wait and see. I really love the pic of little precocious Zuma Nesta Rock running around while his big brother performs on stage. The Stefani-Rossdales really do make a cute family … isn't it adorable seeing them do such normal things together?

Prince Harry Speaks Very Highly Of Kate Middleton

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 08:50 AM PST

Things are moving along swiftly in the wedding preparations for Prince William of Wales and his longtime girlfriend an fiancée Kate Middleton now that we are moving into the Xmas season. This is the first Xmas that Wills and Kate will be celebrating as betrothed lovebirds so it is time for Kate to meet a whole bunch of Royal Family members. This week, Prince Wills, Kate and Prince Harry of Wales lunched with Queen Elizabeth II so that Kate could be introduced to a whole slew of Royal Family members … all before Harry was due to fly off to Berlin, Germany to collect an award for his charity work. Ahead of his visit, Harry said some very nice things about his sister-in-law to be (as well as his late mother Princess Diana). Here is a cute photo of Wills, Kate and Harry as they left the Queen's luncheon and some deets from Harry's interview in the Bild newspaper:

Prince Harry has praised his brother's bride-to-be Kate Middleton as 'the sister I always wished for'. Harry, 26, said he was 'enormously pleased' about William's engagement to the 28-year-old, adding that she was a welcome addition to the Royal Family … Prince Harry made his comments during an interview with the German newspaper Bild, ahead of his visit to Berlin tomorrow to receive an award recognising his charity work. The royal will be presented with a Golden Heart on live television during Ein Herz fur Kinder (A Heart for Children), Germany's largest television fundraising gala. He said: 'I have known Kate for years and it's great that she is now becoming part of the family. I am enormously pleased. I always wished for a sister and now I have one.' The prince also spoke about the influence his mother Diana, Princess of Wales and father, the Prince of Wales, have had on his charity work. Harry told the newspaper: 'I hope that my mother would be proud of me.' He added: 'I always think of my mother in everything I do. It is correct that my brother and I often ask ourselves what our mother would have done in this situation. That helps us again and again. But I also learned enormously from my father, who has been engaged with numerous charities for decades. My mother was to me, like my brother, a role model. And also to many people worldwide. I believe that people took to her so warmly because she possessed the ability to take away their embarrassment in whatever situation she met them in. She was immediately sympathetic. Exactly like her, I know that I enjoy a privileged position as a member of the royal family and I must use what was given to me to try to make a difference in important topics.'

There is no question that Prince Harry has involved himself in a bit of questionable behavior in his youth that would DEFFO NOT have made his mother proud but he truly seems to have matured and straightened himself out in recent years. I absolutely think his mother would be proud of the man he has become. As for his comments about Kate, well, it's no secret that he's been a fan of hers for years. Wills and Kate have been together for a very long time … and since Harry has been tagging along with them for much of their 8 year relationship, he has gotten to know her better than most people. I think it means a lot to William that his little brother/best friend approves greatly of his fiancée.

Jude Law & Sienna Miller Buy Themselves A Lurve Nest

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 08:23 AM PST

For the better part of the last year or so, Jude Law and Sienna Miller have been going at it pretty hot and heavy for the first time since the initially broke up back in 2006 after Jude cheated on Sienna with the nanny. It would appear that Jude learned well his lesson and has come to realize that Sienna is the only woman for him. The couple have been gallivanting all around the world with and without Jude's children, lookin' very much like a happy family. I've been speculating for months now that JuSie are mere moments away from gettin' hitched … but that, unfortch, has not yet happened. What has happened is that Jude and Sienna bought themselves a new £8m home together in London. Might this be the last piece of the puzzle before the couple decide to say their I Dos?

It was little over a year ago that they rekindled their turbulent romance. Now Jude Law and Sienna Miller have prompted speculation of an impending marriage by spending nearly £8million on a home. The couple moved into the luxurious seven-bedroom property in North London last month after spending months searching for their perfect place. They will have a host of celebrity neighbours in the Grade II-listed property, which is also only a few miles from where Law's ex-wife Sadie Frost and their three children live. The house has a modern and light interior that is perfect for a family, with more than enough room for Law's children, Rafferty, 14, Iris, 10, and Rudy, eight. The property was on the market for £7,950,000 and sources revealed that the couple paid 'roughly' the asking price. Miss Miller had previously owned a two-bedroom Georgian mews house in Maida Vale, West London, but sold it earlier this year. She and Law had also been spending time at her Gloucestershire cottage, close to where her fashion designer sister Savannah lives … Sources close to the couple have revealed they have been discussing their nuptials and could even have an intimate ceremony over the New Year.

It really does seem as if JuSie are headed down the marrying path. The couple have been happily attached for so long now, it's clear that they've totally rekindled the love they once shared before Jude indulged in his indiscretion with the nanny. I, too, have been thinking that New Year's Eve might be the perfect time for the couple to get hitched … but, we can't be sure the couple are planning to wed that soon, if they are even planning to be wed at all. The acquisition of this new home together, tho, is a very good sign that the couple are in it for the long haul. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
