Katie Holmes at the Globes announcement: very pretty or overly medicated?

This morning, the Golden Globe nominations were announced by Blair Underwood (swoon), Josh Duhamel (blech) and Katie Holmes! Katie actually looked rather lovely for the announcement, I thought. She's actually giving me a very Kate Middleton vibe, right? I think it's the talking out of the side of her mouth thing (Middleton does that too) and the hair. The hair looks great. The face… well, her makeup is good. But to my jaded eyes, the Kate-Bot looks stoned. She always looks medicated these days.

Anyway, last night Katie was filming scenes with Adam Sandler for Jack & Jill, the film where she plays Sandler's wife, I believe. She was also spotted with little Suri. Here are some of the pics:

Of course. Yesterday, Taylor Swift finally turned 21 years old. Now she and Jake Gyllenhaal won't have to just hang around coffeehouses endlessly - although I bet they still will. At least now we can finally say "Just man up and get her drunk, Jake." You know Swifty and Jake would have probably both giggled like little girls when they ordered their first Buttery Nipples. Us Weekly reports that at last night's birthday party for Swifty, Jake and Swifty were "cuddly and so cute” and “obsessed” with each other. AND NO ONE WAS DRINKING. The Hell? I know would need a stiff drink if I had to watch Jake nuzzle Swifty's bangs trauma.

Jake Gyllenhaal was all the intoxication Taylor Swift needed at her 21st birthday party at her Nashville home on Monday night.

A source tells UsMagazine.com that Swift celebrated her big milestone with Gyllenhaal, close pals and no booze at a “small” and “super low key” bash at home.

Although she’s now of legal age, Swift didn’t drink alcohol at the Christmas-themed bash, the reveler says. In fact, the source says, “no one was drinking” during the fete.

But she and Gyllenhaal were “cuddly and so cute” and “obsessed” with one another, the reveler says.

The party-goer adds that no other celebs surfaced for the fete at the country star’s recently purchased home, which was decorated with yuletide decorations throughout.

“I want a Christmas-themed birthday, because I love Christmas as much as my birthday,” Swift recently told Us Weekly in Taylor Swift: Inside My World. “Combining the two just seems like the perfect festivity.”

She hinted that she wasn’t interested in imbibing alcohol too much: “My friends drink, but I’ve never felt the need to,” Swift said.

The twosome were reunited in L.A. last week following Gyllenhaal’s sojourn to Australia, where he was promoting Love and Other Drugs with Anne Hathaway. Gyllenhaal and Hathaway were both nominated for Golden Globes on Tuesday morning for their performances in the film.

Blah, blah. It's interesting to me that Us Weekly is getting so many of these strategic leaks - at first People Magazine had the first detailed reports of the cuddly G-rated union, but now Us Weekly is getting everything. Personally, I like Us Weekly - it's trashier and dirtier than People, but there's a similar celebrity-friendly vibe. I wonder if Jake and Swifty's reps have some kind of exclusive deal with Us Weekly to promote this relationship? I'll have to check the print issue to see if there are lots of ads for coffee (tin foil conspiracy hat on).

Gwyneth Paltrow on Country Strong: “This is the best job I’ve ever done”

Gwyneth Paltrow is the January cover girl for InStyle Magazine, to promote her lead role in Country Strong. My new happy place is picturing Goop's face when she realized that Angelina Jolie got a Golden Globe nomination for Comedy/Musical and that she, Goop, got shut out. Anyway, Goopy still has a job to do, and that includes talking about her "dear friends" and "good friends" - because Goopy wants to remind us, once again, that she only associates with the very best. Goopy is the worst/best kind of name-dropping starf-cker.

Is a merger in the cards for two celebrity superstar families? Gwyneth Paltrow thinks so. She and her new BFF Faith Hill have spent so much time together lately that their children have bonded – in a major way.

“Moses … we might really become family when he marries Audrey!” Paltrow tells Hill, who interviewed her for January’s InStyle, on newsstands Friday. “My son is in love with your daughter!”

Paltrow is referring to her son Moses, 4, with husband and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, and Hill’s daughter Audrey, 9, with country superstar Tim McGraw. The two families grew close while Paltrow and McGraw were filming their upcoming movie Country Strong in Nashville.

“Don’t you just love our babies?” Hill, 43, asks her friend, who replies, “I love mine, and I love yours!”

Hill complimented Paltrow on her singing voice, which Paltrow says “didn’t have any power or strength to it” before she spent time developing for her role as a country star.

“I don’t even know how to respond to that in your presence, but thank you,” Paltrow says. “You know, last night when I was watching the film, I thought, this is the best job I’ve ever done. Normally I can’t stand to see myself, but with this film I felt like it all came together.”

Paltrow, 38, also dished on her Christmas plans, saying the family of four will hole up in their Amagansett, N.Y., home for some R&R.

“I’m excited,” she says. “We always get a big old tree and go see movies. It’s so cozy.” Another bonus to the holiday season? “The phone stops ringing and the emails stop coming.”

How about this, Goopy: "Usually I think I play myself and come across as a frozen, icy bitch on screen, but I was playing drunk and I had a twang, y'all. Go see my movie, please." Goopy also tells InStyle: "My kids are everything to me. I was so lucky to have great parents and I don’t know if I’ll be as good, but I’ll certainly try.” And: “I’m a clothes person and try to have fun with fashion. It’s like playing dress-up.” Of course.

By the way, all of you yelling at me for saying Goopy looked like ten kinds of hell at her Walk of Fame ceremony yesterday - seriously? She looked like hell. And don't even try to tell me she just looks "natural". She looked 'Toxed and waxy. Just my opinion, I guess.

Leighton Meester for Allure: completely awkward or totally adorable?

Leighton Meester is the cover girl for the January issue of Allure Magazine, to promote her supporting role in Country Strong, the musical that was just SHUT OUT of the Golden Globes (poor Goopy). I know many of you don't care about her, but I really like Leighton. I think she's way prettier than Blake Lively, and more interesting too. I think she's pretty in that really adorable/cute way, much like Rachel McAdams, who I think looks like she could be Leighton's sister. But why did Allure take such a cute girl and make her pose like this for the cover? It's so… awkward. And fug. It makes it seem like the real cover star is Leighton's arm, not her face. Ugh. Here are some highlights from the interview:

On the Chuck and Blair love affair:
“I can really relate to it–not necessarily because it’s this dramatic, tumultuous relationship, but because the way they love each other is very real, and not for the sake of being dramatic. It’s actual love. There’s nobody for each other but them.”

On her former life as a partier:
“We had craaaazy parties, we had DJ’s, bands, an ice luge, a fire twirler. One of my roommates burned off her bangs on the stove trying to light a cigarette.”

On Country Strong:
Meester has a string of promising movies on the way, including Country Strong, a Nashville drama in which she sings and costars with Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw. “Gwyneth’s just chilled out, well-balanced,” Meester says. She’s not uppity in any way. She’s got a family and kids and a really healthy lifestyle.” And her take on McGraw? “He’s a prankster, a flirt. He’ll make up a little song about you. He’s got a devious twinkle in his eye.” When Country Strong wrapped, Paltrow and McGraw presented Meester with a meaningful parting gift: “A guitar,” she says, with a flicker of pride. It has become Meester’s constant travel companion; she’s teaching herself to play and has begun writing songs that are very different from the perky dance music she’s recorded in the past. “The stuff I’m doing now is a little more complementary to my heart and my vibe,” she says.

On her ex, Sebastian Stan:
In her early 20s, Meester was in a relationship with actor Sebastian Stan, who appeared on Gossip Girl, but she’s enjoying being single these days. “I don’t see the point in dating. I hate it,” she says. “It’s wonderful to be in love. And it’s definitely wonderful to cuddle and have sex and get to experience life with somebody. But it’s OK if you don’t find him and you’re 24. You can find it someday.”

On the supposed rivalry with costar Blake Lively:
For years, the actress has batted away speculation of friction between herself and Gossip Girl costar Blake Lively. “It’s unfortunate when women are pitted against each other,” Meester says. “Like with Sex and the City. People say, ‘They’re jealous of each other.’ Come on! They’re all rich, successful, great actresses.” In a breathless voice, she mocks the male-driven stereotype of the Hollywood catfight: “‘When women fight, it’s usually with pillows and in bras and panties! Sometimes, they accidentally kiss!’”

On working out:
“I hate working out for the sake of working out—it’s a chore. I hate going to the gym, and I don’t really care to do it,” says Meester. “The one thing I love is yoga, and I do it at least four or five times a week. It’s pretty fast-paced. I never get bored.”

On her love life:
“It’s wonderful to be in love. And it’s definitely wonderful to cuddle and have sex and get to experience life with somebody. But it’s OK if you don’t find him and you’re 24. You can find it someday.”

See, she's a better interview too, as opposed to Blake Lively's Anna Wintour name-dropping. I would like to see Leighton with someone really interesting too - part of me wants to see her with Ed Westwick, but that's probably a no-go. Who is single? Let's see… Garrett Hedlund? Ooh… how about Colin Farrell? THAT would be hot.

Ryan Gosling smolders as GQ’s January cover boy

Ryan Gosling is the January cover boy for GQ Magazine. GOSDONG!!! I know many of you are over him now that he's slipping The Gosdong to Blake Lively, but I still have some affection for him. He got a Golden Globe nomination this morning too - and maybe he'll even bring Blake as his date!!! Good times. Anyway, GQ has only released a few select excerpts from their cover interview. Also: Gosling took his GQ interviewer to Disneyland. At this point, the boy has a Disney fetish, he really does. Once, even twice if your name appears with "Magic Castle" I'll let it go - but we're going on at least a half dozen Gosling-Disneyland references in a year. Enough. Here are the highlights:

"The path of the Reluctant Movie Star has been well worn at least since Brando, but few have walked it as doggedly and resolutely as Gosling," writes GQ correspondent Brett Martin. All of Ryan Gosling's roles, with the exception of The Notebook, have been "small, odd, and metaphysically mysterious." Even his two latest movies, All Good Things and Blue Valentine, "do little to alter the perception that he will only do those things that appeal to his own, confident sense of what's worth doing."

The two spent time together at some of Gosling's favorite L.A. spots, including the Magic Castle and The Varnish, discussing family (he comes from a "family of believers") and his various jobs outside of acting (including working at a local deli). Gosling says his latest film (with rumblings of an Oscar nod), Blue Valentine, is the best he'll ever make.

Ryan Gosling on his family's willful suspension of disbelief:
"My mother still believes in Santa Claus. We tried to break it to her once, but she wasn't having it. There are very few believers in the world, but my mother is one of them. I don't know if she'd admit that this is why she does it, but it's just more fun to believe in Santa than not to."

…on why he got a job at a deli after his Hollywood hit, The Notebook:
" 'I'd never had a real job,' he says. The problem with Hollywood, he goes on, is that nobody works. 'They have meals. They go to Pilates. But it's not enough. So they do drugs. If everybody had a pile of rocks in their backyard and spent every day moving them from one side of the yard to the other, it would be a much happier place.' "

…on expecting retribution from his success:
"Look, this is crazy. I don't understand how I'm here, living this life, wearing this suit. I assume I'm going to pay for it someday…. And that's okay. It seems fair to me. I just want to be ready for it. I want to meet it like a gentleman."

You know who Gosling reminds me of a little bit? Shia LaBeouf. It's like there's some sort of desire - in both Gosling and Shia - to come across as somewhat creepy/weird, just in attempt to be different. And I hate to say it, but I think Shia does it with more authenticity, you know? Shia seems genuinely creepy and weird. Gosling seems like he's trying too hard.

Michelle Williams’ Dior & darker roots: most improved, or still a ways to go?

Michelle Williams is having a good moment. Blue Valentine's rating was changed from an NC-17 to an R. Blue Valentine is getting some serious awards buzz, and just this morning, she was nominated for a lead actress Golden Globe. And to add to the goodness, she's no longer got funky too-blonde hair! YAY! These are photos of Michelle at yet another Blue Valentine screening last night in NYC. The dress is Dior, and I kind of hate it - on Michelle. I just don't find it flattering on her figure, and it makes her upper arms look heavy (which they are not), and it's much too short for winter. It doesn't even look like she's wearing panty hose either. Ugh. But I love the hair - her hair has been looking hideous lately, I think because she had to dye it white-blonde to play Marilyn Monroe. But now she chopped some off and added some roots to the mix, and it looks so much better.

Note to Goop: this is how you should be doing your blonde.

Golden Globe nominations: Jolie, Depp, Portman, Idris & The Hamm!

The Golden Globe nominations are out! The Hollywood Foreign Press douches split the announcement into two separate things, though, which is why this has taken so long. There were some surprises, but mostly everybody who you thought was going to be an awards contender is on the list. Here are some of the biggest surprises, in my opinion:

*ANGELINA JOLIE! She was nominated for Best Actress Comedy/Musical for The Tourist. SHOCKING. Of course, the HFP probably just wants some Jolie-Pitt action for ratings, but it's still nice for the film that got hideous reviews, and it might boost the box office a bit. Oh, Depp got nominated for The Tourist too, and the film got a Comedy/Musical Best Picture nomination.

*Idris Elba got a nomination for Lead Actor in a TV Movie! There will be Hot Man Meat at the Globes! Between Idris and The Hamm, it's going to be Hot Guy Globes (mm…man globes).

* There was a lot of love for Glee and Modern Family, but the actors who got singled out for the shows are very interesting. More on that in a second.

*Piper Perabo got a nomination?!? For that dumb CIA show. For real.

*Emma Stone got a nomination for Easy A! Yay for recognizing younger talents!

Re: the film nominations - I'm just thrilled with the actors nominated, I really am. I think it's a good group all around, and I'm even glad to see Michael Douglas included - at the expense of Justin Timberlake! HA. It's good to see Andrew Garfield getting some love, and Mark Wahlberg for The Fighter. I'm a little surprised that Inception didn't get any acting nominations - specifically, Leo. Weird.

Jersey Shore’s J-Woww has new book on ‘The Rules’ of dating

Is there anything these Jersey Shore kids can’t do? I watched Barbara Walters’ “10 Most Fascinating People” show hoping to get some decent quotes from Sandra Bullock, who wasn’t even interviewed. Instead, I was treated to an interview with the Jersey Shore gang in which they defended themselves to Barbara and then defined their stupid insider words, like “Smush,” “Grenade” and “GTL.”

That segment also revealed the many ways that these kids are raking in the big bucks. Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino earned $10 million this year, not just 5 as previously reported, from his endorsement deals and iPod app. J-Woww has a tanning line out and a clothing line, and now there’s news that she has her own book coming out on “dating.” This is from the girl who slept with Pauly, but I guess of all the Jersey Shore women she’s had the least hookups in the house. (See diagram below, although I don’t watch this show to properly judge.) Anyway I fail to see how she’s qualified to put out a dating book, but I guess that doesn’t matter when it comes to making money.

Jenni “JWoww” Farley announced on her Facebook page this weekend that she, too, is throwing her hat into the writing ring to become a woman of letters. According to Farley, The Rules According to JWoww will offer “a new spin on the dos and don'ts of dating, from ’smushing’ guys to avoiding booty calls to finding the guy of your dreams.” Rife with “empowering advice for a new generation of self-assured young women,” the book will offer “shore-tested secrets on landing a mint guy, staying fresh to death, and kicking the competition to the curb."

The dating guide, which will be published by HarperCollins imprint William Morrow, goes on sale February 8, 2011.

The book is being released just in time for Valentine’s day, when all the single girls with aspirations of being like J-Woww can get wasted and get their fake tits out to land the “guy of their dreams.” I’m sure he’s heavily bronzed, roided up, and has his own special language with his buddies through which he puts down all the women stupid enough to put out for him.

Chelsea Handler is ready to go public with her relationship with 50 Cent. She tweeted a photo of the two of them in bed, along with the caption “I don’t know why anyone thinks I would ever date a rapper.”

Chelsea also made her characteristically boring deadpan jokes center around her relationship with 50. On her show last night, while talking about the end of her “Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang” book tour, she quipped “The biggest changes that happened over the course of the tour actually took place inside me. Literally. My love life became as ridiculous as a comic book. When the tour began, I was dating Superman. [cut to picture of Ted Harbert in Superman suit], then I dated Tarzan [cut to picture of that Animal Planet dude with a loincloth], and finally I ended up with Batman, aka ‘The Dark Knight’ [cut to picture of her kissing 50 Cent]. You know, I’m going to say something nice. They look really happy together. Chelsea bugs the crap out of me, and so does 50 in his way, but these two found each other and they seem to be in lust, so good for them. Chelsea has talked about 50 before, but never called him anything more than her ‘friend.’ It looks like he’s thrilled that she’s ready to admit they’re together. Maybe Chelsea will tone down her meanness now that she’s getting laid. No, I doubt it either.

Paris Hilton says she was invited to Nicole Richie’s wedding but had other plans

There’s some interesting back and forth in the celebrity sites about why Paris Hilton didn’t attend the weekend wedding of her former BFF, Nicole Richie. Richie had a lavish affair by most accounts, with over 150 guests, a ‘winter’ theme and an elephant, but avian Paris was off in Vegas. According to E! Online, Paris was invited but begged off because of a scheduled birthday party for a friend, which was filmed for Paris’ reality show. US Weekly claims that Paris wasn’t invited because Nicole worried that she would steal her thunder. Here are US and E!’s reports:

When Nicole Richie got hitched to Joel Madden this weekend in front of friends—such as Gwen Stefani, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Khloé Kardashian Odom—at dad Lionel’s Beverly Hills estate, many were wondering why Paris Hilton wasn’t there.

The former BFFs and Simple Life costars did have a falling out years ago, but have since patched things up.

And although Page Six says Paris didn’t make the guest list for the intimate affair, a Hilton confidant insists that’s not the case…

Paris was shooting her Oxygen reality series in Vegas this weekend, where one of her castmates was celebrating her birthday (costar Brooke Mueller didn’t attend).

“This was planned months ago,” the source says. “Paris sent Nicole and Joel a wedding gift to congratulate them and wishes them both the best.” - E! Online

In fact, Richie didn’t even bother to invite Hilton, her best friend since the age of 2, to attend the winter-themed ceremony. And though Richie’s pals Khloe Kardashian and Samantha Ronson made the final guest list, a source close to Hilton tells Us that the 29-year-old socialite “isn’t dwelling on it too much.”

Khloe Kardashian was at Nicole’s wedding, but Paris wasn’t there for whatever reason. I tend to believe US Weekly over E!, where the account sounds straight from Paris’ camp. This isn’t just about two friends who had a falling out. This also signifies Paris’ place on the Hollywood hierarchy. If Paris was still relevant, she would have scored an invitation to Nicole’s wedding regardless of the current state of their friendship or whether or not she used to date the groom’s brother. As it is, she doesn’t rate an invite while Khloe Kardashian does. Burn.
