Parents Televison Council Vs. NBC: Playboy Edition

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 12:45 PM PDT

The Parents Television Council (PTC) are at it again!

Last we heard from the PTC, they were trying to get Rihanna's new video off of BET...but they failed.

Looks like they're not letting that get them down though, because now they're calling for NBC affiliates to NOT air The Playboy Club, which premieres in September, because it "glorifies and glamorizes" the pornography industry.

Here's what PTC president Timothy F. Winter had to say about it:

"Putting a veneer of sophistication on an industry that exploits women and destroys families is not laudable, it is disgraceful. Whatever positive spin you may wish to put on the series, it is undeniably a betrayal of the trust you have built over the years with America's families — the owners of the broadcast airwaves that you will be using to force this content into the living rooms of every family in your community."

We would understand where the PTC were coming from if the show were going to air earlier in the day, but the fact is it will be airing at 10 p.m. It's reasonable for a network to air adult-oriented content during that time slot. If it were 3 p.m., that would be different!

Do U agree with the Parents Television Council? Should NBC drop The Playboy Club?

Kat Von D's reps have announced that she has canceled the remainder of her promo tour for L.A. Ink in light of her breakup with Jesse James and her little incident at Good Day L.A. yesterday.

She probably shouldn't be too concerned, though.

You can't buy all the publicity she's gotten this week!

Now, Grand Central Publishing has announced that Terry will be collaborating with Lady GaGa on a book of photographs, which is scheduled to be published on Nov 22.

Here's what Grand Central's Executive VP/Publisher Jamie Raab had to say about the project:

"We are proud to be publishing this remarkable collaboration between Lady Gaga and Terry Richardson and anticipate that it will be one of the most stunning, provocative and coveted books of the 2011 holiday season."

The book will include over 350 color and black & white photos taken during a "10 month period in which Richardson followed Lady Gaga and had complete access to her everyday life, with nothing being off limits." Awesome!

Sounds like this book should complement coffee tables QUITE well! Def will be worth picking up a copy!

Gene Simmons' Marriage Proposal Stunt Brings In The Ratings

Smooth move, Gene!

Last night's sixth-season finale of Gene Simmons' reality show Family Jewels was quite a doozey. Gene proposed to Shannon Tweed ... and then it cuts to BLACK! Dun, dun, DUN!

But even without Shannon's answer, people still tuned in in droves! It was the most-watched episode of the franchise with 3 million viewers and the highest-rated ever with 1.7 million viewers in adults 18-49. Now those 3 million people have to wait just over a month to hear if Shannon said yes or not.

SPOILER ALERT - She says yes!

Netflix Could Lose 2.5 Million Subscribers Because Of Price Hike

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 10:50 AM PDT

We were blown away by the response the customers have been giving to Netflix for their greedy plan to split the combo package up and boost prices by a crazy 60%.

It's now looking like the service could be seeing 2.5 million customers canceling and going to a different service because of it. And if you take that number and multiply it by how much they paid per month and compare it to those who are going to downgrade to a less expensive deal VS. how many will pay the hike -- it's a huge loss no matter how you slice it.

Per month. For a company that just reported quarterly loses and has been seeing their stock plunge because of the news.

We just can't believe they'd go through with this.

Also, they think that they'll lose a bunch of customers in the third quarter just to see a lot of them return in the fourth. That's pretty optimistic for a company who treats their customers like this.

Indeed, after Los Gatos, Calif.-based Netflix announced the price increase earlier this month, 70% of its dual streaming/disc rental subscribers — which represents the majority of its membership — cited their displeasure, according to a telephone poll conducted by Frisco, Texas-based research firm The Diffusion Group (TDG).

The study — based on a group of 500 Netflix subs — found that from 12% to 15% of streaming/disc subscribers would cancel service in the next six months. Netflix, in a July 25 letter to shareholders, postulated as much saying its expects "some subscribers" to cancel in the third quarter (which ends Sept. 30) before bouncing back in Q4.

Sure, competitors might not offer as much right now as Netflix, but they have two things going for them: they aren't screwing with their customers, and they see the chance to make the unhappy Netflixers happy again.

The more people who go to Amazon Prime, for example, the better the service and selection will become. Maybe this is just what they needed to become an actual competitor to the streaming service.

There's no shame in admitting you were wrong and apologizing to the 70% of customers you've upset, Netflix.

But then again, the same company that hasn't made any strides in accommodating the hearing impaired most likely won't do a thing about the unhappy customers they've brought upon themselves.

Are U going to cancel?
