Last night the cast of Glee, along with bosses Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, appeared on stage at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, CA to participate in a panel discussion in front of fans as part of PaleyFest 2011 (hosted by The Paley Center for Media). In the panel discussion video, which you can watch below, various castmembers spill deets about what events will transpire in the remaining episodes of Glee. Now, because those events have not yet aired, I am putting the video behind the cut so as not to spoil the series for any of y’all. BUT, if you want to be spoiled, you can check out the video below and hear the spoilers from the Glee cast themselves.
I think the biggest spoiler is that Kurt will be going back to performing with New Directions, tho, I can’t see how that’s really all that much of a spoiler because you knew he couldn’t stay away forever. This little PaleyFest chat provides lots of great info for fans of Glee. Which parts of the discussion were your faves?
New comments made by iconic horror director Wes Craven, whose new film Scream 4 opens in mere weeks, reveal just how disenfranchised Craven feels about Scream 4. Due to changes made to the film by the studio (primarily the decision to take away some of Kevin Williamson‘s script writing), Wes Craven now feels that Scream 4 ultimately doesn’t feel like his film.
Wes Craven has admitted that Scream 4 does not feel like ‘his’ film. The director of the franchise told followers on Twitter that he is losing control over the project because of changes in the writing team. Scream 3 writer Ehren Kruger has been drafted in to reboot Kevin Williamson’s script. Speaking to Total Film, the horror legend said: “There was a bumpy period when things shifted over from Kevin to Ehren. “I signed up to do a script by Kevin and unfortunately that didn’t go all the way through the shooting.” He added that it is “not entirely” his film but his job is “much more bringing whatever experience and expertise and creativity I can”. The third sequel, starring regulars David Arquette, Courteney Cox and Neve Campbell, will open on April 15 in the UK.
Yikes!! This does not bode well for a film that has not yet opened yet. If the film’s own director isn’t totally happy with the movie, how can movie fans be expected to like the film? While these comments made by Wes Craven are worrisome, I’m still pretty anxious to see Scream 4. I just hope the changes made by the studio will result in a good sequel. Scream is one of my fave film franchises … I want to see that tradition continue.
This summer, Björk introduces Biophilia, an extraordinary immersive project and her most ambitious work to date. The multi-media endeavour encompasses her music, installations and live shows, and celebrating the use of modern technology by utilising the internet. The project aims to explore ideas like how sound works, the infinite expanse of the universe, from planetary systems to atomic structures. The world premiere of Björk’s Biophilia live show will be held at Manchester International Festival for a three-week residency – across six intimate shows in the Campfield Market Hall for audiences of 1800, as her first UK dates in over three years. For these six special shows, Björk will be performing new tracks from the forthcoming Biophilia studio album as well as with a small group of unique musical collaborators. The show will feature a range of specially conceived and crafted instruments, among them a bespoke digitally-controlled pipe organ; a 30 foot pendulum that harnesses the earth's gravitational pull to create musical patterns – creating a unique bridge between the ancient and the modern; a bespoke gamelan-celeste hybrid; and a one-off extraordinary pin barrel harp. In a special collaboration with MIF, the Biophilia live show will travel to major cities around the world following the Manchester premiere. MIF will also be working with young people in Manchester to explore the musicological, scientific and technological ideas behind the project. In a series of educational workshops schoolchildren will be given the unique opportunity to experience the world of Biophilia first hand, and to immerse themselves in the endlessly rich and inspiring place where cutting edge technology, music and nature meet.
Squuuuuueeeeeeeee!! This is such great news!! Björk is one of my all time fave musicians and any new music from her is extremely great news. I understand that much like Gorillaz did with the free album The Fall they released around Xmas, Björk used the Apple iPad to compose some of the music on Biophilia. I really wish I could attend of the Summer residency shows reported above but I deffo plan to see Björk live in concert if/when she brings her show to the US. We don’t know exactly when Biophilia will be released but I hope Björk doesn’t make us wait too long. This is very exciting news. 2011 is really turning out to be an absolutely amazing year for new music :D
Britney Spears is gearing up for a week of appearances and surprise performances to promote the release of her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale. First off is a special performance on ABC’s Good Morning America from San Francisco’s historic Castro district. This is the first time the show has filmed a concert from the location, and due to the time difference and logistics Britney will pre-tape the performance on Sunday, March 27th and the concert will air on GMA on March 29th. She is scheduled to make several appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show week of release and MTV is celebrating Femme Fatale with a Britney take-over day on March 29th. Britney is confirmed to participate on Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards on April 2nd. In between rehearsals, Britney is shooting the video for her newest song, “Till The World Ends” in Los Angeles. Ray Kay has been tapped to direct the video. Britney is currently featured on the covers of V magazine and Out magazine’s first ever “Ladies We Love” issue.
I still can’t get over Brit Brit‘s funky low voice in these GMA promos but I am not complainin’ one bit!! I am SO excited to learn that the news we heard yesterday turned out to be true. A new music video soon plus lots of TV and print promo on the horizon. I’m really looking forward to seeing Britney at the Kids’ Choice Awards, not to mention her appearances on GMA and Ellen. It is so fun to be a Britney Spears fan right now. Wee!!
Lord have MERCY on our souls, y’all. Can you believe that Vanessa Hudgens decided to break up with THIS?! That girl is loco in the cabeza, like, for reals. These photos are … yes … much, much better to look at in high, clear quality … but please, do try to refrain from licking your computer screens. Zac‘s new tattoo of feathers is, nice. I’m just so happy that the weather is heating up here in SoCal … the warmer the weather gets, the higher the likelihood that Zac Efron might take off his shirt to go skateboarding or whatever. Bring on the Summer, I am SO ready. Woot!!
Is the age of the mean judge over? With the new “American Idol” panel going pretty easy on this year’s top 13 so far, it’s starting to sound like there will be more of the same back-patting on the upcoming NBC singing competition “The Voice.” “There is no good and bad,” said Christina Aguilera, one of the show’s mentors, in her first public appearance since her arrest for public intoxication earlier this month. Aguilera sat in one of the oversize swivel chairs alongside fellow judge/coach Adam Levine on Tuesday to talk up the show, which premieres on April 26. “This isn’t about tearing people down. I want to bring these people up,” she added, according to Entertainment Weekly. ” ‘The Voice’ really does stand for what it says. Instinctually, you can judge people based on the way they look. I love the fact we get to sit here with our backs turned away from these people and completely use just one sense to hear these voices. I’m not looking for vocal acrobatics, who has biggest range [of] high and low. I’m looking forward to getting moved.” Unlike other singing competitions, the judging panel on “The Voice” — which also includes Cee Lo Green and country singer Blake Shelton — will listen to the prospective stars with their backs turned, in order to focus on their voices, not their looks. “It’s less about being judgmental and more about helping them out,” said Maroon 5 singer Levine about the show’s conceit, which involves the judges hitting a red button to signal they want to snag the unseen vocalist for their team. After getting advice from the professional singers during battle phases — where they can also call in professional choreographers, stylists and producers to help their charges — the wannabe stars will go on to live performance shows where the TV audience will vote on who advances and wins the $100,000 prize and recording contract. “It’s a new experience for all of us, so we will be learning as well,” said reality TV newbie Levine. “We really don’t know. We are hoping to gain something as human beings, which is definitely different for us. We’ve never been in this position before, which makes it really exciting” … “We’re looking to get more involved with people starting out just like we did,” Aguilera said. “We’re not just making commentary and then going home. We’re getting completely involved. I wish there was a show like this when I was starting. I’m ready to share it all.”
I understand that Xtina will also join Twitter so that she can promote the show on the social network front as well. It sounds like she and her fellow judges are really committed to making The Voice a hit … but it remains to be seen how the show will be received by TV watchers. Is the world big enough for yet another competitive reality TV series looking for the next great singer? I guess we will find out when The Voice debuts on NBC next month.
Last night David and I met up with Darion and Josh for a catch-up dinner at Fat Fish so that we could share the events of the past 3 weeks and just spend time together. Because David and I had been gone for so long, Darion and I decided we needed to hang out as soon as possible. We had a great time and a great meal together. Afterward, Josh and I made our way to The Troubadour to see Liz Phair live in concert.
Liz, as usual, put on a fantastic show. Josh and I saw Liz when she played the El Rey late last year so we’ve decided to see Liz in concert every chance we get. We are so lucky that she lives here in SoCal because she tends to play a lot of local shows. Altho she is supporting her most recent album Funstyle, the setlist of last night’s show was packed with many of her classic songs … like May Queen from her second album Whip Smart:
Liz also debuted a new song titled Soul Decision which she said would be featured on her next album:
Liz did not reveal when her album would be released but I’m hoping it’ll be out this Summer, about a year after she released Funstyle on her official website. The show was great, Liz sounded amazing and Josh and I had a blast! We had a fabulous night with Liz Phair :)
Tonight, David and I are planning to hang out with Emma and Josh … which is funny because we hung together last St. Patrick’s Day as well. It’s been ages since we’ve seen those two so it’ll be nice to hang out with them again. I hope all y’all’s St. Patty’s Day is going swell. Have a Green Beer for me!!
Swifty of D12 is 34, Melissa Auf der Maur (Smashing Pumpkins, Hole) is 39, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins is 44 and Kurt Russell is 60 years old today. Click HERE to see who else is celebrating a birthday today.
Now I don’t know what kind of … um … charms … Ryan Phillippe has or the kind of … er … tricks … he’s got up his sleeve that keeps these lovely ladies by his side but whatever he is doing, he’s clearly got it goin’ on. I don’t know that I would be quite so content to stay with a guy who might’ve fathered a baby with someone else but … then again, I don’t know what it’s like to date Ryan Phillippe. I’ve said all along that I kinda like Amanda and Ryan together … clearly, if she is willing to stick by him thru this paternity thing, she’s a keeper. Let’s hope he doesn’t end up breaking her heart in the process, tho.
TMZ has obtained Mel Gibson’s new mug shot — taken late last night in connection with his criminal battery case. As we previously reported, Mel rolled over to the El Segundo Police Department last night to have his picture and thumb prints taken … after the actor pled no contest to simple battery last week. The charge stems from an alleged standoff between Mel and his baby mama Oksana Grigorieva back in January 2010. As we previously reported, Mel was sentenced to 16 hours of community service and 52 weeks of counseling … along with 36 months of informal probation.
It looks like it was just another day for Mel Gibson. While I do not believe that his racist and violent character and behavior has changed, I do think he is doing a better of job of staying out of trouble … by, at the very least, keeping his behavior in check (I hope) or merely better hidden (which could very likely be the case). While I sincerely hope that Gibson is able to get something positive out of his required 52 weeks of counseling, I’m not necessarily holding my breath. I do think people are deserving of a second chance … but when it comes to 5th, 6th or 7th chances, my patience runs out. Another day, another mug shot for Mel Gibson. Let’s hope there will be no more bruises for Oksana Grigorieva.
The ladies have been filming all week but this scene seems to have been orchestrated as a way for photographers to get a few snaps of the angels all together. I love that one of the new Charlie’s Angels is African- American so I’m looking forward to the series but … well, we’ll have to wait and see if the show will be able to survive the adventurous new TV season. I loved the original version of Charlie’s Angels and I really enjoyed the film versions that came out in the early 2000′s. Will this new generation of Charlie’s Angels be able to stand on it’s own? I guess we’ll find out come this Fall TV season.
Sad news Batman fans … Michael Gough, the actor who played trusted friend and butler Alfred Pennyworth in Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin has passed away at the age of 94 years old. Altho the cause of death has not yet been reported, I think we can safely assume that his advanced age may have had something to do with his death … which, to be honest, doesn’t lessen the pain of loss any more. He will be missed.
British actor Michael Gough has passed away at the age of 94. The screen star appeared in more than 150 film and TV roles, including the first four Batman movies as Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred Pennyworth and as The Celestial Toymaker in Doctor Who in 1966. Born in Kuala Lumpur, Gough started his career in the 1947 movie Blanche Fury and gained a cult following for his parts in Hammer Films productions such as 1958′s Dracula and 1962′s Phantom Of The Opera. He was cast by Tim Burton in the big screen relaunch of Batman in 1989 before Michael Caine took over the role in 2005′s Batman Begins. Gough continued to work with Burton late into his career, featuring in Sleepy Hollow and taking on voice acting jobs in Corpse Bride and Alice In Wonderland. Earlier this year he provided the voice of villain Parasite in the animated film All-Star Superman. Gough’s first wife Anneke Wills starred as the companion to William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton’s Doctors in the the ’60s incarnation of Doctor Who. The couple had two children together – one of whom died in 1982 – and divorced in 1979. He previously had a child with second wife Anne Leon. Gough is survived by his fourth wife Henrietta Gough.
Gough played such an integral role in the first Batman films, including the really crappy ones that were directed by Joel Schumacher, that for all intents and purposes he IS Alfred Pennyworth to me. I must admit, I do not know any of Gough‘s previous work prior to his Batman gig but it sounds like he enjoyed a very storied career. Living to the age of 94 seems pretty significant to me … I can only hope that Michael Gough truly enjoyed his 94 years of life. Let’s send our deepest condolences and love to his family today.
Early this month we learned that Courtney Love decided to pay out approximately $430,000 to settle a defamation lawsuit where it was alleged that she harmed the business of a fashion designer by posting defamatory messages on her official Twitter profile. Today we learn that Courtney Love is back on Twitter again … because, apparently, she hasn’t really learned her lesson.
Courtney launched the Twitter account @cloverxxxlove yesterday and immediately started feuding with comedienne Chelsea Handler before she started posting her usual incoherent ravings:
@chelseahandler sober what? uh. define sober, cos you girl are so about recovery. guppie/shark guess who, cue… / i actaully made a dare with someone not to be on this anymore and the day he stops being in a blackout ill get off o it again, frances right / only just that little thing oh and hes a liar, but otherwise i do love him, psychic massacre yesterday, my whole tummy is hurting. my blood. / i blamed bean for the unfit mom nonsense, which we both know to be nonsense, but the truth had to out or has to, ill know when i see him,
Her illegible nonsense can be read in full HERE. As far as I can tell, she hasn’t defamed anyone with this new Twitter account just yet … but it’s only been a day so, give it time. I’m not sure if it’s a good thing that Courtney Love is back on Twitter (you know, for the LULz) or a bad thing (because most of her blatherings make absolutely no sense to those of us who like to be sober) but … she’s back. Let’s see how long it’ll take for Twitter to get her in trubs again.
Do your kids like the new record? What have they said about it? Yes. They definitely dance to it but its kind of funny because they are still confused …. It's like, 'who is this Britney Spears singer in contrast to mommy?'
How has your involvement in the record-making process changed over the years? I have always been heavily involved in every album I have ever made. I’m very stubborn when it comes to recording and will only record songs I love, which is why it takes me a long time to make an album. I have to feel connected before I record and the song has to spark something inside me. Very few songs do that. I guess it’s a good process because I love all of my music. I know there are a lot of artists that hate songs they recorded. I don't feel that way.
What was your idea for the overall sound of this album? I wanted to make a fresh-sounding album for the clubs or something that you play in your car when you’re going out at night that gets you excited but I wanted it to sound different from everything else out right now. I also wanted to experiment with all the different types of music I love which is why you hear a mixture of pop, hip-hop and dance throughout the album. I also really wanted to play with my voice and change up my sound here and there which was really fun.
You hear traces of some real cutting-edge dance music on the album – for instance, the dubstep break on "Hold It Against Me.” How do you find new sounds? I listen to a lot of different music from all over the world and I guess I just gravitate towards what sounds fresh and what makes me want to move. I really didn't want to record anything on this album that could be mistaken for anyone else out there. I think my first two singles, "Hold It Against Me" and "Till The World Ends," sound completely different from anything else and I think when my fans hear the rest of Femme Fatale they’ll see how fresh every song is.
Do you still go out to clubs? What kind of dance music do you like? I don't go out that much anymore but when I do, I definitely like to go out and dance. I’m a big vibe person when it comes to music so a song really has to make me feel a certain way in order for me to fall in love with it. I love hard pounding dance songs with really beautiful melodies over them. Those are my favorites.
What kind of music do you listen to at home? I love the Peas but I also love Deadmau5. I guess I'm all over the place. Lately I have been listening to Robyn and Adele non-stop but I also love to find new artists that very few people know about. It’s one of my favorite things to do because it’s like being part of a secret. Friends and people around me are always showing me new artists that they love and that’s how I learned about Sabi and ended up working with her on "(Drop Dead) Beautiful." I have always wanted to feature a new artist on one of my albums and she is really cool.
What led to your collaboration with willi.am? What was it like working with him? The Peas make incredibly catchy, fun pop/dance records and I LOVE will.i.am’s style. I have always wanted to do a song with him and would love to work with him more in the future. He is so interesting.
Dr. Luke has become a big-name producer in his own right since your last album – is it different working with him now? Not really. We have known each other for a really long time. Most people don’t know this but we actually worked together when I was recording "Blackout." He was incredible back then and he has only gotten better over the years.
Dr. Luke said last fall that “I want [the sound] to get harder in some ways, and maybe a little more deep into electronic — grimier.” Did you have that same agenda for the album? Do you feel like you accomplished that? When we first sat down to talk about Femme Fatale I knew I wanted to make a dance album that was ahead of everything else out there but unique to me which is why I was so picky with the recording process. I only wanted songs that I immediately connected to. I also wanted to make sure that this album was completely different from Circus or anything else I had ever recorded. I love Circus but I wanted something darker and edgier. I also wanted to make an album and didn’t want to just record a bunch of songs and put them together. I think Femme Fatale is really connected from start to finish.
What is it about Max Martin that makes you so comfortable collaborating with him? How much bigger of a role did he take on this album than he did for “Circus”? Max played a huge role on this album and he has been there since the beginning so there is such a huge level of trust. He gets exactly what I am saying when I tell him what I want and don't want musically. His melodies are incredible and he is always coming up with weird sounds, which I love. The whistle on “I Wanna Go” still gets me every time I hear it. Who would have thought of that? There is nobody I feel more comfortable collaborating with in the studio.
How would you characterize the studio relationship between Max and Dr. Luke? They are two peas in a pod. It's a total bromance.
Aww … this is a cute interview. I love the question about how her kids feel about her album, I love that Britney listens to Deadmau5 at home and that she has so much love for Max Martin. Dr. Luke can write and produce some great hits but Max Martin is the man! His songs on Femme Fatale are my faves, I love his work entirely. This is a great interview … and it is great promo for the album. I am hearing that Britney is rumored to be appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the Monday and Tuesday of album release week so … let’s be on the look-out for that. So much Britney right now, I am loving it all!!
Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence has landed the coveted lead role in Lionsgate’s new franchise “The Hunger Games,” TheWrap has learned … The lead in “The Hunger Games,” based on the best-selling novels, was one of the hottest roles in town. Lawrence was tipped as the “clear frontrunner” four days ago. She got the offer on Tuesday, and the details were hammered out for two days until the deal closed on Wednesday, according to an individual with knowledge of the deal. Details of the deal were unavailable Wednesday night, but the actress presumably has signed on to stick with the franchise. The studio plans the franchise as a trilogy which will include “The Hunger Games,” “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay,” based on the best-selling young adult books by Suzanne Collins. Lawrence will play the role of Katniss, a girl who joins a survival contest in order to save her community. The story takes place in the future, where teenagers are chosen by lottery to compete to the death in gladiator-like spectacles, the Hunger Games. Lawrence, who was nominated for best actress for the 2010 “Winter’s Bone,” was one of about 10 actresses seeking the role. They reportedly included two other Oscar nominees: “True Grit’s” Hailee Steinfeld and “Little Miss Sunshine’s” Abigail Breslin. Chloe Moretz, Lyndsy Fonseca, Saoirse Ronan, Emma Roberts, Kaya Scodelario, Emily Browning and Shailene Woodley also were reported to be under consideration … Alex Pettyfer, who plays John in “I Am Number Four,” is rumored to be under consideration for the role of Peeta Mellark, as are Josh Hutcherson (“The Kids Are All Right,” “Bridge to Terabithia”) and Hunter Parrish (“Weeds”).
E! News seems to think that the role of Peeta Mellark will likely go to Hunter Parrish:
Hunter Parrish may be thisclose to landing the lead role in the upcoming Hunger Games movie! The very hunky Weeds star just confirmed to us exclusively that he has indeed been in talks to take on the role of Peeta Mellark in the futuristic flick. And guess which actress is his No. 1 pick to play love interest Katniss Everdeen … “I’ve met the producers,” Parrish told us last night at Alternative Apparel’s Fall 2011 showcase in West Hollywood. “I’d be grateful to get the opportunity. Like, really grateful. It would be amazing.” (FYI: Beastly star Alex Pettyfer told Access Hollywood last month that he’s also spoken with Hunger producers) While Parrish says he hasn’t seen a script for the film based on Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novel trilogy, he has gotten lots of support from fans of the franchise on Twitter wanting him to nab the part. “You don’t get much better than that,” he said. “The true fans of the book. So regardless of whether I’m a part of the film or not, I feel honored to just sort of be thought of. I read the books all last year, and I guess they’re starting filming soon.” As for who he wants for the role of Hunger Games heroine Katniss? Someone close to his age. “If it’s Jennifer [Lawrence], man, sign me up!” the 23-year-old actor said of the Winter’s Bone starlet, 20. “I think if it ended up being Hailee Steinfeld or Saoirse [Ronan] or who’s the other one? Abigail Breslin. Then it would be weird. It would be really weird.”
Welp, now we know that Jennifer Lawrence did get the part … now we have to see if Hunter will get the gig. To be honest of the 3 guys mentioned here in the running for the role of Peeta, I’m on Team Hunter. I really loved the book The Hunger Games so I’m really hoping they get the big-screen adaptation right. In my mind, I kinda envisioned a younger girl like Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Hanna) in the role of Katniss but I think Jennifer Lawrence will do a good job with the part. I never really had an image of Peeta in my mind … but I can totally see Hunter Parrish playing the role. I’m sure we’ll know soon enough how casting will play out for The Hunger Games but thus far, I’m pleased with how things are turning out. Any fans of The Hunger Games out there? What do y’all think of Jennifer Lawrence‘s casting?
“Twilight” beauty Ashley Greene and “heartbreaker” Joe Jonas have split, sources exclusively tell Page Six. The couple broke up weeks ago after dating since last summer. “It was mutual and amicable,” a source said, adding they drifted apart because of their work schedules. The Jonas Brothers star gushed about her in Details’ April issue: “I think what works about it is she really puts my feelings first. She understands my busy schedule.” Greene is filming “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” and will appear in “LOL” with Demi Moore and “Butter” with Jennifer Garner this year. Jonas is to release his first solo album this summer. He previously dated Taylor Swift and Camilla Belle and split with Demi Lovato, earning himself a reputation as a heartbreaker. Greene didn’t seem to be nursing too much of a broken heart when she hung out at Avenue Tuesday night with friends including Jared Followill. A rep for Greene couldn’t be reached. A rep for Jonas declined to comment.
Alas, young lurve can be so fragile. As I understand it, tho, Joe‘s relationship with Ashley was the longest one he’s ever had. So either the caddish Jonas brother is just bird who cannot be caged or he just doesn’t know what he wants in a partner right now. HMMM. In any event, I’m certain Ashley will find herself a new guy to go out with and Joe, well, I’m sure he’ll be re-hooking up with someone new soon. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how long that relationship lasts.
