Mike Huckabee tidies up his comments regarding Natalie Portman Posted: 06 Mar 2011 08:13 AM PST I'm only covering this because I think that it's necessary. A lot of people were upset by Mike Huckabee's comments about Natalie Portman being a shameful "unwed mother" last week, and since his comments have dominated political AND gossip blogs for the past few days, Huckabee has issued several statements about it, in an effort to get more attention, I suppose, and help shill his book and raise more money for what I'm guessing will be his run for the Republican nomination in 2012. First, his blog post on Friday:
[From Huckabee's Blog] Eh. It still doesn't make any sense to me, mostly because I think Huckabee picked the wrong "example" of an "unrepentant" celebrity single mother. Portman is in a relationship with her baby-daddy, and as of this moment, they are planning on raising the baby together. But I guess I'm glad that he's trying to roll back any insinuation that he made that he was "criticizing the hardworking single mothers in our country." Still, Huckabee continues to neglect the baby-daddy angle of the issue - why is it only the women who are criticized for having babies out of wedlock again? In addition to his blog post, Huckabee also released this statement to Us Weekly: "These people should read my book and they would know what I said instead of what some left-wing partisans are attempting to put forth. I do appreciate the attention to the book as it is sparking interest in it dramatically.” So, basically, it's just about him selling his book. Nothing to see here, folks. Especially since Natalie hasn't said anything about the manufactured controversy… and I really hope she doesn't bother. No need to give this dude any more air time. |
Fur-clad Catherine Zeta-Jones & Michael Douglas: unapologetic glamour? Posted: 06 Mar 2011 07:50 AM PST These are newish photos of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas from Friday night. They were headed out for a black-tie affair for The Welsh Society of New York. Because Zeta is Welsh, remember? I forget sometimes, because she just seems to have taken to this image of old-money New York so well. Seriously, though, Michael looks great, and he's healthy and they're back to going to events together. Also - do my eyes deceive me, or has Zeta put on some weight, especially in the hip-area? It looks good on her.
[From Radar] 41! Hahaha. Sure. She's 41. God bless. Anyway, Zeta's award was for her "worldwide stature in the film and theatre industries, her unstinting pride in Wales, her generosity in support of Welsh causes and her role as an ambassador for Wales in the United States of America." In her acceptance speech, Catherine said: "It means a lot to come home with my family and to be honoured in this way - very emotional, rather nervous I must say, and it was worth (it) to have Michael in good health to be able to enjoy it (with me)." On, and her coat is real fur. Because Zeta will cut you if you say anything about her fur. |
Alex Skarsgard talks about the new season of True Blood, Eric’s “vulnerability” Posted: 06 Mar 2011 07:23 AM PST These are photos of Alexander Skarsgard at last night's PaleyFest 2011 - it was a panel discussion for True Blood fans which included Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alan Ball. Before I get into what I think are some spoilers for the next season, can we just talk about how Alex looks really good in this suit? Like, really good. My only quibble is with the buttons - if you're not going to wear a tie, a man should unbutton one more button, just to make it look more relaxed and sexy. Okay, here's a short video preview of Season 4: And here is E! News' SPOILER-filled report on what went down at PaleyFest:
[From E! News] I hope that didn't mess you up too much, True Blood fans! But seriously, it sounds like they're going to be doing some fun stuff this season, and they're not afraid to mix up. Good for them. I also included a photo of Alex from last week, dressed casually. Just because it's easier to imagine him without clothes when he's casual. |
Should we even make fun of Gwyneth Paltrow anymore? Posted: 06 Mar 2011 07:01 AM PST As I mentioned during our Oscar coverage, at some point over the past month, I've just started feeling bad for Gwyneth Paltrow. Like, I have genuine sympathy for her because she just seems so tragic these days. It's not even a schadenfreude situation where I can be like, "Haha, Gwyneth's husband hates her and she's desperate for attention, how deliciously pathetic." It's more like Gwyneth is trying much, much too hard and I'm embarrassed for her and how badly she seems to be doing. Take her overall appearance at the Oscars - I liked her first red carpet dress, a metallic Calvin Klein, and then she changed into this beige Michael Kors that made her look thick-waisted and Real Housewife-y. And then she had to sing after Florence Welsh. And Gwyneth's voice… isn't as strong as she thinks it is. Taken with everything else - the fact that her husband couldn't care less, her faltering career, her Botoxy face, her snotty, lie-filled musings on Goop (in an attempt to be elite), and her general aura of sadness - should we even make fun of Gwyneth anymore? With that question in mind, I present you with Gwyneth's latest performance on Glee. She covers Joan Jett's "Do You Wanna Touch Me": She's just so… unsexy. The leather pants, the jacked Goopy tittays, the bony ass trying to strut, the lack of rhythm, the fast cuts used to mask how gross and weird all of this is. I feel like Gwyneth is trying to project this image of new herself: the woman who has always been fun and "hip" and is even more fun and hip now that she's hanging out with the cool teenagers on the "coolest" show on TV. You know what it what reminds me of? My mom talking about how 50 Cent is a "sellin' out". I just want to shake Goop a little and yell at her: "You're almost 40 years old. It's fine. You can go home and be with your kids and you don't have to work so damn hard to be 'cool' anymore." |
Halle Berry in Pucci at the NAACP Awards: gorgeous or tacky? Posted: 06 Mar 2011 06:36 AM PST These are some photos of the red carpet for the NAACP Awards, which were Friday night in LA. Halle Berry was one of the biggest names there, which I could have predicted. Ever since Halle and Gabriel split up, Halle has been going to the opening of an envelope. Seriously, she must be saying yes to every event she gets invited to. Anyway, Halle was there and she wore this… odd Pucci gown. I actually love the cut of it - I like that Halle is mostly covered up, and yet there's a lot of boob showing. I love the long sleeves, and I love the slinky feel. But I hate the fabric. Pucci is known for their garish and sometimes enchanting prints, and this print kind of sucks. But Halle's makeup and hair looked pretty good: Also there - Sofia Vergara in Dolce & Gabanna black strapless. It's a simple silhouette, but Sofia makes it pop. She looks so pretty. Kerry Washington, and I don't know who did the dress. It looks rather bridal to me, but I can't get over what this girl did to her face. She looks hellishly jacked. |
