Mashup: When ‘Winnie the Pooh’ Met ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Posted: 14 Jul 2011 11:26 AM PDT

I was super excited when I found out they were making a new Winnie the Pooh movie. I bought into their promises- no modernization, no crazy 3-D, just a willy, nilly, silly old bear and memories of juice boxes and nap time. So as the trailer came on, I was ready for the rush of nostalgia. Instead I got Keane. They were playing a hipster-y Grey’s Anatomy montage song while Pooh searched for honey, while Tigger bounced, and the nostalgia was stopped cold. Suddenly I was thinking, oh my god, Pooh’s coding, and what the hell are Rabbit and Eeyore doing in that supply closet?

I’m no match for mood music, so if Grey’s Anatomy is what they want their audience to get out of the latest trip through the hundred acre woods, here’s a handy guide to make the connections a little easier.

Let me know if I forgot any Pooh-Grey’s match-ups!

Why Does Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley’s Daughter Need a Twitter Account?

Posted: 14 Jul 2011 11:05 AM PDT

It’s not bad enough that Teen Mom stars Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley use their Twitter accounts to flirt with each other, fight with each other, and sell stupid T-shirts: now they’re dragging their daughter Leah into the fray. This week they created a Twitter for her (@leah_leann). So far there have only been three tweets, and one of them is a link to Amber’s Facebook fan page. Poor Leah. Not only are her parents neglectful, she is now stuck with them embarrassing her on the internet before she’s old enough to understand what that is.

I thought it was bad that Jordan Ward‘s son Noah Finder had his own Facebook fan page, but this really takes the cake. Who wants to help us start a fake Leah twitter where all the tweets are “Rescue me and get me away from my horrible parents”?

Girl Crushable: TV Writer and Whedonverse Superstar Jane Espenson

Posted: 14 Jul 2011 10:43 AM PDT

What kismet — today is Jane Espenson‘s birthday, which validates even more my choice to make her this week’s Girl Crush. Even though I say that it’s Joss Whedon who made me think that I could make a living as a writer, Jane Espenson is a more personal idol. Obviously there’s the fact that she’s one of the top-ranked female TV writers, but she is just so damn cool. She’s so well-respected, in fact, that she’s inspired a hashtag just for her special day: #JaneBday

It’s difficult to list Jane’s accomplishments without just rattling off her IMDb credits. Instead, here are some of the specific TV episodes she’s been behind:

  • Firefly, “Shindig”
  • Gilmore Girls, “The Reigning Lorelai”
  • Battlestar Galactica, “Deadlock”
  • Game of Thrones, “A Golden Crown”
  • Dollhouse, “Briar Rose”
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer, “Earshot”

All through college I read Jane’s blog for tips on how to write for TV, though her insights apply to all genres and styles. She does an amazing job of encouraging young writers by providing updated information on the various TV fellowships, as she got her start as an ABC/Disney fellow. Even though she’s no longer able to write daily updates (including what food she’s eaten that day), she leads writing sprints on Twitter — everyone is invited, for ten minutes or an hour, to open up their current or new projects and just write.

This column seems to vacillate between silly and gushing — Jane gets the latter, because I so admire her and can only hope to have as prolific and exciting a writing career as she has. There really is nothing she can’t do.

It’s not often that you see so many celebrities taking the effort to warmly wish a fellow Hollywood luminary happy birthday, but the writers, actors, and editors who’ve worked with Jane over the last ten years all took to Twitter to trade tongue-in-cheek “Jane Facts” about her general badassery.

It’s National Nude Day! That probably has to do with how crazy hot it is outside, but we’re okay with seeing celebs like Alexander Skarsgard, Tyson Beckford, and Scarlett Johansson naked basically whenever.

‘Toddlers and Tiaras’ Star Eden Wood Announces Her Retirement At Age of 6

Posted: 14 Jul 2011 10:10 AM PDT

I’m a big believer in going out at the top of your game – Lost did it, Seinfeld did it, and now Eden Wood is doing it. Eden, who is six, is a regular fixture on TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras, but her mom Mickie Wood announced that Eden will be retiring from the kiddie pageant circuit. This isn’t surprising, considering that Mickie has been pushing her daughter into side projects, including voiceover work and some “singles” (including one about Justin Bieber and one that takes a dig at Sharon Osbourne). While this may be a retirement, I doubt Eden will be lounging on a beach in Florida or learning how to play shuffleboard anytime soon.

Snap This: The ‘Deathly Hallows’ Triscuit

Earlier this week, our erstwhile Intern Victoria snapped a picture of Harry Potter star and Hottie McHotterson Matt Lewis getting mobbed by admiring fans in Toronto. But Victoria’s dedication to the art of all things Potter didn’t stop there: she made her very own custom Deathly Hallows Triscuit snack last night! It looks too awesome to eat, but at least I have an idea about what to serve when I finally go on a date with that guy who played Oliver Wood.

’16 and Pregnant’ Star Aubrey Akeril Has An Arrest Record

Posted: 14 Jul 2011 11:53 AM PDT

When she appeared on the 16 and Pregnant reunion a few weeks ago, I was one of many people who speculated that Aubrey Akeril (pictured, with son Austin) was using drugs.

In her segment, Aubrey talked about her marriage falling apart, sounded like she had no idea where she was, had glassy eyes, and made references to “partying.” Well, it turns out that my guess wasn’t too far off base – Radar reports that Aubrey was arrested last year for shoplifting $30 worth of cosmetics from Wal-Mart. When she was arrested, cops searched her bag and also found OxyContin and Ritalin, neither of which she had prescriptions for. Oops!

This sure does help explain what was up with Aubrey during the reunion special. I feel so sorry for her little boy, though. It seems like Brandon, Aubrey’s ex, is pretty responsible and a good dad, so there’s hope for Austin.
