 Legendary musician and poet, Gil Scott-Heron, passed away yesterday in a New York Hospital at the age of 62. Deets inside.... Gil Scott-Heron, widely credited as "The Godfather of Hip-Hop" died at the age of 62 yesterday. Scott-Heron was critically acclaimed for writing the hit "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," which mixed poetry, politics, jazz, blues and soul. His performance style, which combined the heavy use of percussion with spoken word, is widely credited as helping to shape hip-hop. Jaime Byng, Gil Scott-Heron’s publisher in the UK, confirmed the death tweeting,
Although Gil was HIV positive and battled addictions to cocaine and other substances for most of his career, no official cause of death has been released. Rihanna spent the day out and about in New York yesterday after her "Today Show" Summer Concert Series kick off performance. She changed into a cute white button down and black trouser look to hit the tattoo shop and grab lunch. And later that night, partied at Greenhouse in a short black flirty dress.

After working up an appetitie on stage, Rih Rih worked the sidewalk catwalk and hit up her fave restaurant Da Silvano with her bestie Melissa and others yesterday.
Then rolled to the tattoo parlor for some new ink.
And later last night, the red-head threw on her nude Dior heels and a flirty black dress and left the Gansevoort Hotel to party it up at Greenhouse downtown. I'm sure fun times ensued.... Photos via SPLASH |

Executives for L’Oreal Paris have recently announced that Liya Kebede have been named as one of their new ambassadors. The company released a statement saying,
The gorgeous 30-year-old Liya, who has a 5-year-old daughter named Raee, will be joining current L'Oreal spokeswomen Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez.
Also in beauty news,
Maybelline spokesmodel, Jessica White, is developing a new skin-care line for women of color called Devise Beauty. And Jessica isn't just lending her name to the project, sources say she is working very hands-on with chemist Maria Ash to develop a skin-enhancing mixture that will enhance African-American, Latin and Asian skin tones.
Great to see such fab chicks making waves in the cosmetics field.

Beyonce, the winner of the 2011 Billboard Millenium Award, is covering the June 4th issue of Billboard magazine. And right after this Memorial Day Holiday, she's supposedly releasing her next single off her upcoming 4 album next Wednesday.
Read on for deets... Rumor has it the track "Best Thing I Never Had" will be Beyonce's next official single. 96.1 KISS FM radio station in Philly let the cat out the bag. They said that Bey's label told them they're giving the station the single to be released next Wednesday. It sounds a bit odd since we would naturally think "1+1" would be her next single as she just debuted it a few days ago on the "Idol" finale. But it's possible it will just be used for performance purposes. Time will tell... We posted her full album tracklisting here. 4 drops June 28th. |

Watch inside..... Erykah Badu, who studied dance at Grambling University, gave a dramatic interpretation of her own lyrics in her latest vdeo. Shot in black and white, she dances solo to expres the words. Fans can see her perform it in person during the Rock The Bells tour this summer.

The 2011 BET Awards will air on June 26, 2011 in Los Angeles, CA at 8pm EST/7pm CST and Diggy recently put on his Twitter:

Raven-Symoné is looking simply gorgeous these days. She's got a brand new show, a brand new bod, and the same fabulous looks. We've got her new promo pics for her upcoming ABC Family original comedy, "State of Georgia," under the cut.... 25-year-old Raven donned long blondeish waves and a figure hugging red Herve Leger dress to showcase her slim new figure:

Her show "State of Georgia" will be her second show she plays the lead character of, after her hit Disney Channel show "That's So Raven." But the talented chick has been in plenty-o-movies and shows since she was 3. "State of Georgia is a half-hour multi-cam comedy series focusing on an aspiring actress with a larger than life personality and her science geek best friend who try to make headway in New York City.
