The Young, Black, and Fabulous

The Young, Black, and Fabulous

SPOTTED: Lance Gross & Angela Simmons' Morning After

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 08:53 AM PST

Hottie Lance Gross was spotted having breakfast at Toast in L.A. this week.  Both looked pretty casual as they chatted it up and chowed down.

Pics when you read on...

Both looked like they had a long interesting night the evening before. We're not saying they spent it together....we're just saying.

Interesting outfit--with bra on full display--to wear to a casual breakfast with a hot friend.

And the two hopped in the car together and left.  I'm sure the "we're just friends" statements are on their way.  Cute pics though.

Kanye Tweets "Gold Diggin' B*tches Be Getting Pregnant On Purpose"

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 07:10 AM PST

Maybe Kanye West should just walk around with his foot in his mouth because it will end up there anyway.  He took to twitter yesterday to talk about women who use "pregnancy" as a money making scheme.

It's the same -ish he was talking in the "Gold Digger" song but still, foolywang at its best.  Deets inside...

Unfortunately for Kanye, some of the women in his male friend's lives are full of schemes.  He took to his twitter account yesterday to vent his frustration.  He revealed that some women get pregnant just so they can get the men in their lives to bribe them to get abortions.

Apparently, Kanye says some chicks can make $50,000 to $100,000 a pop.  Who knew?

Kanye's tweet:

“an abortion can cost a ballin' n***a up to 50gs maybe a 100. Gold diggin' b*tches be getting pregnant on purpose.

#STRAPUP my n***as!”

“It ain’t happen to me but I know people.”

SMH.....

Knick fan Chris Rock and his shaggy beard was all smiles on the sidelines.

Sidenote--is that your relative on your left Chris Rock?  Just askin...

NEWS: NYC "Abortion" Ad Causing A Storm Of Controversy Nationwide

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 04:37 PM PST

So as I was making my way downtown in NYC 2 days ago, I came across this very billboard.  I was literally sitting in traffic with my mouth open with shock.

A 3-story-tall-billboard strategically placed at the busy intersection of Watts and 6th Ave. in Soho is causing a sh*tstorm of controversy across the nation.  And today it's hitting the fan.  Check out the "right-to-life" extremist's newest antic to get attention via shock value...at black children's expense...when you read on...

The arguments against this ad even being allowed to be put up in New York state that this is purely irresponsible, regardless of the message's meaning.  Children who view the ad cannot process complicated issues or underlying messages the way adults can, so this runs the very high risk of scaring and/or humiliating the child reading it.

Here's the run-down of the who and what and why people are so up in arms this week:

"The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb," reads the inflammatory ad sponsored by the Dallas-based pro-life group "Life Always."

The three-story billboard at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Watts Street features an elementary-school aged African-American girl looking out at viewers with a plaintive expression, wearing a bow in her hair and a sleeveless pink jumper dress. The ad directs passersby to the group's website, thatsabortion.com.

Life Always leader, Pastor Stephen Broden, who is African-American, said that his group intentionally released a billboard that would elicit a reaction.

"The black community is oblivious to what is going on with this practice," Broden, 58, said about abortion rates in the African-American community.

"This is far from hyperbole, these are facts and statistically back up that abortion is having an impact on the demography of African-Americans," he said.

According to New York City's latest Vital Statistics report with data from 2009, two out of five pregnancies in New York City end in an abortion, giving the city an overall abortion rate of 41 percent.

Among black women in New York City, the abortion rate is reportedly 59.8 percent, while the abortion rate for Hispanic women is 41.3 percent and the rate for white women is 20.4 percent. The rate for abortions among Asian women in New York is 22.7 percent.

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn both criticized the ad, with de Blasio calling for it to come down.

"To refer to a woman's legal right to an abortion as a 'genocidal plot' is not only absurd, but it is offensive to women and to communities of color," Quinn wrote in a statement of Broden's claim that the high abortion rates among minority women amounted to genocide.

Mae Collazo, 38, who works across the street from the billboard, said she found the billboard incredibly offensive.

"I don't like it all, what is that supposed to mean?" said Collazo, who is African American, "It makes it sound like all we do is abort our children."

Collazo added that she didn't think the higher percentage of abortions registered for African American women in New York necessarily reflect what is actually going on in the community, and questioned the source of the statistics and whether abortions conducted at private clinics are included in the statistics.

But some passersby agreed with the ad.

Patti D'Agostini, 48, who works at the Door Youth Center on Broome Street, said she works with many teen mothers.

"I don't believe in abortion," D'Agostini said. "Kids shouldn't be having sex until they're 18 anyways."

Broden said his organization will remain in the city for another three weeks before kicking off similar ad campaigns in six other cities around the country.

Also, people believe it is unnecessarily targeting black women--making this an extremely racist and humiliating and disgusting "ad".

But, as usual, the folks behind the ad (the leader is a black pastor from Dallas named Stephen Broden of the Life Always organization) defend their actions saying they put the ad in a majority white neighborhood in order to get attention.  And they say the ad is actually for the greater good of showing the bad side of abortions, especially for black women, so people will be less likely to get them.

I have my own views on this topic and this specific billboard itself, and the fact that essentially this "pastor" is saying he's willing to exploit and humiliate black women at the "bigger" price of publicity, but I digress.  Living in the south and also doing my undergrad years in Texas made me privy to these very issues and types of people on almost a daily basis.  So I'm shocked, but I shouldn't be.

But how do you feel about this o fab ones?  And what measures, if any, should be taken now that this advertisement has permeated the nation.

TV FAB: LaLa Vasquez And Carmelo Anthony Back In The Game At VH1 With "LaLa's Full Court Life"

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 01:45 PM PST

Now that Carmelo Anthony is moving to New York to play for the Knicks, his wife LaLa Vasquez will be by his side...with her television crew.

LaLa and Carmelo will both return to reality television this summer as VH1 kicks off a new series called "LaLa's Full Court Life."  Deets inside...

Since her first reality series "LaLa's Full Court Wedding" was such a ratings success, LaLa Vasquez has reunited with VH1 for a new series about her life called “LaLa’s Full Court Life” (working title). The new series is slated to premiere in August 2011, featuring ten 30-minute episodes.

The docu-series, which began filming in January, will continue where LaLa's weddiing left off with she and Carmelo preparing for a sudden move to New York City.

So what can we expect from the bubbly tv personality this go round?  Viewers will see LaLa adjusting to her new life as a wife, dealing with parenting issues and juggling her busy acting and television hosting career.  And VH1 confirms there will be appearances by LaLa's famous friends, including 50 Cent , Kelly Rowland , Trina, Serena Williams and Ciara.

When asked about the show, Jeff Olde, EVP of Original Programming and Production at VH1 said,

“Viewers connect with La La because despite the fairy tale wedding and NBA star husband, she is a real, down to Earth, hardworking woman who stays true to herself.  The best thing about the new series is that while pursuing and realizing her dreams, La La gets to take us back to her home in New York, where her story began.”

And to get viewers excited about the new series, LaLa will be participating in a live chat with VH1 on Twitter during the 7pm and 11pm encore broadcasts of “LaLa’s Full Court Wedding” on Sunday, February 27.  Viewers can join by following @LaLa and @VH1, and via the hashtag #FullCourtWedding.

I'm excited to see LaLa and Carmelo back with this new series.  I like them as a couple and they represent two hard working adults without all the drama and foolywang.

I'm setting my DVR as we speak.

FOOLYWANG MATERIAL: T.I.'s Ex-Protege Yung LA Gets Crazy Face Tatt

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 12:00 PM PST

Look what Gucci Mane started.  Small dark tatts on the face we already had a problem with.  But ever since Gucci copped that big ass colored ice-cream cone on his right cheek...other rappers are following suit.

T.I.'s ex-protege, Yung LA (on far left), is no longer signed to Grand Hustle.  And apparently getting an angry pink duck on half your face is the way to "start your life over" these days.  Read on for the foolywangery...

Not gonna lie. I couldn't pick Yung LA out of a line up.  So whether something like this is surprising for him, I don't know.  I do know I hope this wouldn't be status quo for anybody.  Ish needs to end.

According to Yo! Raps:

“With the breakup and me not doing business with Grand Hustle anymore, it’s a lot of controversy in the streets,” said LA during the video footage. “It’s just a new day for me. I’m trying to do what’s best for me and what’s best for my career.”

Some have speculated that the tat was inspired by southern label Duct Tape Entertainment’s logo. But according to DTE signee and fellow Atlanta-based rapper Alley Boy, Yung is in no way “even apart of Duct Tape to begin with.”

In the video above, Yung is explaining his split from the label and the need to start over.  And he talked about his new mixtape, Tattoos and Jewelry:

“It’s gonna be one of my biggest mixtapes. I’m only giving out 10 songs,” he said.

O...How generous of him....

Donald Trump Slams Rihanna For Bailing On His Charity Event & Performing At The All-Star Game

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 11:35 AM PST

Donald Trump is lashing out at pop star Rihanna, saying the way she cancelled her scheduled appearance at his charity event was disrespectful.  Get the deets inside...

Last weekend, Rihanna was scheduled to perform at Donald Trump's Palm Beach country club, Mar-a-Lago, but she abruptly cancelled the morning of the show.   A spokesperson for Rihanna cited bronchitis as the factor but The Donald wasn't having any of that.

The Palm Beach Post reported that Donald allegedly called the "S&M" singer and told her,

"That bronchitis you don't really have better get cured, and it better get cured fast."

Seems as though Donald had already heard rumblings that Rihanna was slated to perform at the All-Star Game Sunday night, and he felt disrespected.

"For Rihanna to go to the All-Star Game and perform after she told us she was sick, that is just a lack of respect," he said.

But the Donald didn't disappoint his country club guests.  He got Jennifer Hudson to fly in on her day off to entertain the crowd.  And he made sure to throw another dagger in Rihanna's direction saying,

"Nothing was missed. Jennifer's a beautiful girl. She came on her day off even though she performs almost every night.  She is an unbelievable talent, and her voice is better."

WOMP WOMP.
