Billy Ray Cyrus No Longer Believes ‘Hannah Montana’ Destroyed His Family

Posted: 19 Mar 2011 01:52 PM PDT

Last month, Billy Ray Cyrus gave an interview to GQ magazine wherein he publicly blamed the Walt Disney show Hanna Montana, which is largely responsible for his daughter Miley Cyrus‘s fame and fortune, for “destroying” his family saying he wished the show never existed. Since that time, Billy Ray — briefly estranged from his family because of his comments — decided NOT to divorce his wife Leticia Tish Cyrus and went on The View this week to publicly recant the comments he made to GQ. Now he “loves” Hanna Montana and Disney. Check out his new mea culpa interview on The View below.

Billy Ray Cyrus has backtracked over comments he made slamming TV show “Hannah Montana” for wrecking his family, insisting he “loves” the program. The country star and his wife Tish filed for divorce in October 2010, and Cyrus subsequently launched a bitter rant about the show that made his daughter Miley Cyrus a star, blaming it for ripping his family apart. He said, “The damn show destroyed my family… I hate to say it, but yes, I do (wish the show hadn’t happened). I’d take it back in a second.” The Achey Breaky hitmaker called off his divorce this week, March 14, and now he’s reversed his comments about Hannah Montana, praising the series. Speaking on U.S. TV show “The View”, to be aired on Friday March 18, Cyrus says, “I love Hannah Montana. I love Disney. I love our fans who’ve been with us throughout this whole show. This has been an incredible journey. I don’t think Hannah Montana ruined my family, but to set the record straight, I love Hannah Montana. I love Disney. That didn’t tear my family apart. Now fame, fame is a different animal, you’ve got to be careful with that thing.”

LOL!!! While I can respect the man for calling off his divorce in an attempt to reconcile his relationship with his wife, I cannot endorse his bullshizz, hypocritical backpedaling. I can’t say I’m surprised to hear Billy Ray recant his derogatory comments against Disney but it is, IMHO, kinda pathetic. Do I believe that he all of the sudden loves Hanna Montana and Disney? Not for one second. But I do know that you don’t mess with Mickey Mouse and get away with it. I think it would behoove Billy Ray Cyrus to just keep his trap shut and refrain of giving anymore interviews … about anything … ever again. I think we would all benefit from no more Billy Ray interviews.

The Villain Of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Has Reportedly Been Revealed

Posted: 19 Mar 2011 01:34 PM PDT

Last month we learned that the upcoming new Spider-Man film, starring Andrew Garfield in the lead role of Peter Parker / Spider-Man, will be less of a reboot of the original film franchise and more of a continuation of the Spider-Man timeline. Today we learn that the main villain of The Amazing Spider-Man may have inadvertently been revealed accidentally by actor C. Thomas Howell. In an interview with Howell about his part in the film, he mentions a scene with a classic Spider-Man villain which seems to confirm who the main bad guy will be. If you would like to find out who it is, you can do so below.

A potentially major spoiler from The Amazing Spider-Man, the new Spidey reboot starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, appears to have been revealed by a surprising source: C. Thomas Howell (The Outsiders). The actor, who appears in the flick, said in a podcast on The RetroRadio that Garfield's Spider-Man battles the Lizard in one of the film's major action sequences. Said Howell, "I play a relatively small role. I play a construction worker whose son is caught in the middle of a battle between the Lizard and Spider-Man and we're on the Manhattan Bridge. Spider-Man helps me get my son back in a perilous situation. At the end of the movie, there is a little bit of a payback there. Spider-Man is kind of hurting and I help him. Part of the story is the nation thinks he might be a bad guy at first. They don't know who this guy is. Because of my experience on the bridge with my kid, I know he is a good guy. So, I pitch in and sort of help out at the end."

Fans have been assuming that The Lizard would be the villain ever since it was reported that Rhys Ifans was cast in the film. I do not believe the studio has officially stated which role Ifans will play but it is widely presumed he will play Dr. Curt Connors / The Lizard. While it’s possible there may be another villain thrown into the mix (Carnage, perhaps?), I think it’s pretty safe to assume now that The Lizard will likely be the main bad guy.

Shamrocks & Shenanigans

Yesterday afternoon, David and I made our way down to Marina Del Rey, CA to visit with his wonderful aunt Judy who is in town for the weekend at a psychologists conference and we were able to spend a few hours with her catching up and trading traveling stories. After our hang out sesh with Judy, we made our way back home so that I could go to the House of Blues in West Hollywood, CA to attend the House of Pain reunion concert. I’m not even kidding you, I had the most amazing time last night. It was not a bad way to spend a Friday night.

The weather was glorious and clear, so Judy really got a nice taste of our lives here in SoCal. For dinner we went to Joe’s Restaurant on Abbot Kinney and ate our faces off. The food was superb … and the waitress overheard us talking about our 5 year anniversary trip to Berlin so she surprised us with dessert :D

After hanging with Judy, it was back to LA so that I could get my buns to the House of Blues to see House of Pain. The last time I saw House of Pain in concert (well, the only time, actually) was back in October 1994 in Detroit, MI:

I’m not even playin’, y’all … House of Pain killed it last night. I am such a BIG fan of their music that I was really looking forward to the show last night. Everlast and Danny Boy still got it, no question. DJ Lethal isn’t on this He Who Breaks the Law reunion tour with HoP (even tho he is still in the band) because he’s doing work on the new Limp Bizkit album (blah!). Here are a few photos from the show last night:

House of Pain performed the rap classic The Next Episode in tribute to the late Nate Dogg … which was very, very cool. The band closed with their HUGE hit Jump Around, which I managed to video for sharing:

There were a LOT of House of Pain fans in the hiz last night. I’d say every other person was wearing a House of Pain t-shirt, which is something you really don’t see at concerts very much anymore. I am SO glad I got to see the show last night. It really was a blast.

David and I don’t have any plans for tonight … I think we’re gonna just lie low, keep things chill. The weather is cloudy, cool and rainy this weekend — perfect hibernation weather. Happy Saturday!!

Sarah Michelle Gellar Continues To Film Scenes For ‘The Ringer’

Posted: 19 Mar 2011 11:57 AM PDT

Yesterday we saw photos of mommy Sarah Michelle Gellar with her beautiful daughter Charlotte Grace as they left the NYC set of SMG‘s new TV series The Ringer and today we get to see more photos of SMG on set in between filming takes. I can’t even express how elated I am that SMG is working on a new TV series … and that we are seeing photos from production already. Wee!!

I know it’s a bit crazy but I still have a hard time seeing photos of SMG and not seeing her as Buffy Summers, stylish vampire slayer. Even when SMG did other projects while Buffy the Vampire Slayer was still on the air, I kinda only saw Buffy … not whatever character SMG was playing. I think I’ll still have that feeling for a little while once The Ringer starts, but only until I (hopefully) fall in love with the show and SMG‘s new character. Altho we still have many months until The Ringer premieres on CBS this Fall, I’m content with seeing photos from the set from time to time. I can’t wait to see more.

MTV Plans To Revive ’120 Minutes’ With Matt Pinfield

Posted: 19 Mar 2011 11:31 AM PDT

Early last month MTV officially announced the return of all new episodes of their hit 90′s animated series Beavis & Butt-Head. Today we learn that the 90′s revival over at MTV continues with the announcement that long-running music video show 120 Minutes will also be returning to the airwaves. 120 Minutes was the show where you could see videos from Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Smiths, Joy Division, The Cure and other alternative/new wave/goth/industrial bands. Because MTV doesn’t really play music videos anymore, 120 Minutes will make its return to the air on MTV2 later this year … with host Matt Pinfield.

“120 Minutes,” two of the most beloved hours in alternative-rock history, is returning to the airwaves. MTV2 will air a brand-new monthly version of the trailblazing music program with a weekly online counterpart dubbed “120 Seconds” on MTV Hive. Both will be hosted by Matt Pinfield, the walking musical encyclopedia and industry veteran whose original “120 Minutes” run made his name synonymous with the best of college rock, indie rock and everything else under the umbrella of “alternative.” “I’m so excited that ’120′ is coming back,” Pinfield told MTV News. “It’s been so influential in so many people’s lives. Musicians, music fans, actors — so many people have told me the show was pivotal and life-changing for them.” “120 Seconds” will debut this Friday on MTV Hive, a new standalone online destination for indie music fans. “120 Minutes” is set to make its official return on MTV2 later this year. Over the years, Pinfield said that Jack White, Vampire Weekend, Michael C. Hall (“Dexter”) and Jonathan Togo (“CSI: Miami”) have all come to him and expressed their admiration for “120 Minutes,” which ran on MTV from 1986 to 2000 and on MTV2 from 2001 to 2003. “Thomas [Mars] from Phoenix was saying he watched me all of the time on MTV France,” Pinfield said. “I didn’t realize at the time how many countries the show was being broadcast in!” “120 Minutes” was created by journalist Dave Kendall, who served as the show’s original host when it began airing 25 years ago in March 1986. The two-hour program was home to music videos from a wide-ranging selection of underground artists who had few other mainstream outlets and whose passionate fans hungered for every bit of content they could find. From shoe-gaze to indie rock to imported Britpop to the beginnings of grunge, it all had a place on “120 Minutes.” Morrissey and KMFDM videos sat alongside XTC and the Replacements. Future megastars like Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis and Radiohead earned early airings. The video for Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” had its world premiere on “120 Minutes.” “I got a text recently from Patrick [Carney] from the Black Keys, and he said, ‘I just want you to know how much “120 Minutes” and you turning me on to so many great bands changed my life,’ ” Pinfield said. “It was an amazing, heartfelt text. And that kind of stuff just blows me away. It makes me feel so good about it. “I know how much the show meant to me, and it means so much to know how much it meant to other people, too. I was a fan of the show before I ever hosted it,” Pinfield added. “And so many people said they missed the show.” A number of MTV VJs had a chance to host the program at various points … But Kendall, Pinfield (who hosted from 1995 to 1999) and Jim Shearer (who wrapped the show’s last run from 2002 to 2003) are arguably the most identified with the program. “There were a lot of great hosts on the show. Nothing but respect for all of them,” Pinfield pointed out. While he’s currently a DJ for New York’s WRXP, and has hosted other shows for MTV and VH1, served as as vice president of A&R for Columbia Records and more, he said, ” ’120′ has always been near and dear to my heart. I know people always identify me with that show. I’m proud of that. I’m blessed and honored. “I’m always looking for new music; it’s never stopped for me,” he continued. “To talk about music, to turn people onto music — I’ve always joked that if I wasn’t able to do it on the radio and on television I’d probably be telling it to some guy sitting next to me at the park.” Pinfield said that certain elements of the show’s new format are still being discussed but promised that it will combine location shooting, videos, interviews and possibly some live performances.

It should be noted that VH1 Classic airs a show called 120 Minutes 3 times a week in the middle of the night that does not have a host but does play the sorts of classic videos that used to air on the original version of 120 Minutes. It sounds like this new version on MTV2 will go back to the original format … as a TV show with a dedicated host:

Without question this is the best news that I have heard from MTV in YEARS! I lived on 120 Minutes and its sister show Alternative Nation. Not only am I looking forward to seeing classic alt videos on the show but I’m really looking forward to the new stuff we will learn about current 120 Minutes-like bands on the scene right now. To be honest, I’m very surprised that MTV is devoting any time and energy to reviving music video programming … but I am not complaining and I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth. This is fantastic news for me and I’m sure many of you music fans out there. Wee!!

Will Taylor Momsen Be A Judge On The X Factor?

Posted: 19 Mar 2011 10:42 AM PDT

Yesterday it was announced that famed music mogul Antonio L.A. Reid has signed on to judge the US version of Simon Cowell‘s competitive singing show The X Factor. Today we are hearing from Celebuzz that former Gossip Girl star and current Pretty Reckless frontwoman Taylor Momsen will also sign on as an X Factor judge. Um … yeah. Last night, Taylor and her band performed a show in New Jersey and she was lookin’ more XXX Factor than X Factor.

Is Taylor Momsen headed for Simon Cowell's much-anticipated new show X Factor? Sources connected to the show tell Celebuzz yes! Celebuzz has learned producers for the show have zeroed in on the 17-year-old Pretty Reckless singer, and want her to take a stab at co-hosting the show. Earlier this week, uber-producer L.A. Reid officially signed on the dotted line to sit at the judge's table. We're told that producers think the often-controversial Momsen is perfect for the spot because she's "young, hip and edgy" and has just the energy the show is looking for. Cowell left behind his successful American Idol franchise behind last season to produce a US version of the televised singing competition. The show, already a hit in the UK, has produced such stars as Leona Lewis. The show's winner will receive the ultimate prize — a $5 million recording contract. Auditions start in Los Angeles March 27.

Um, this seems really odd to me. Despite the fact that Taylor Momsen *may* be “young, hip and edgy”, I find it very hard to believe that an intelligent man like Simon Cowell would put any faith in the girl’s ability to judge musical talent. Of all the possibilities for X Factor judges, Taylor Momsen does NOT strike me as a viable choice … but, what the Hell do I know? What do y’all think of Taylor Momsen as a possible X Factor judge? Would you trust her as a singing competition judge?

Eva Longoria Celebrates Her 36th Birthday In Sin City

Posted: 19 Mar 2011 10:12 AM PDT

Eva Longoria, who is rumored to be moving in with her younger toyboy Eduardo Cruz in the wake of her divorce from hubby Tony Parker, made her way to Las Vegas, NV to celebrate her recent 36th birthday. Eva packed up her bags, her BFF Mario Lopez and her camera-shy new boyfriend and held court at Eve Nightclub inside the Aria Hotel and Casino at CityCenter on the LV strip … and she partied without once ounce of regret.

Eva Longoria is anything but desperate. In fact, her life is pretty ideal these days. “Everything in my life is perfect,” she said Friday in Las Vegas at her 36th birthday bash at Eve Nightclub. Joined by her new beau Eduardo Cruz and a large posse of friends, including Mario Lopez and David Spade, Longoria capped off a week of birthday celebrations in a white sparkling cocktail dress with dinner at her Beso restaurant, followed by a night of dancing at Eve, which was decked out in balloons for the celebration. Sipping Nuvo sparkling liqueur, the Desperate Housewives star cuddled up to Cruz in the VIP section, sneaking a few kisses throughout the night. Later, she stood atop a catwalk in view of the club to listen to singer Tino Coury perform as a large birthday cake was delivered. The birthday, she said earlier in the night, begins a “new year” for her while acknowledging the “big changes” in her life. “I embrace everything that’s happening,” she told PEOPLE. “I hold dearly every experience that I have in my life. I regret nothing, so, you know, [I'm] moving on.”

HMMM … it sounds like her divorce from Tony was the best thing to happen to her. I have to say, I think it’s great that Eva is moving forward so positively with her life. Things happen, relationships end but it behooves no one to wallow in sadness when they should be living their lives to the fullest. It sounds like things are going very well for Eva Longoria these days … which sounds like a pretty good thing to celebrate on one’s birthday.

Original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter Comments On New Wonder Woman Adrianne Palicki

Posted: 19 Mar 2011 09:00 AM PDT

Yesterday we got our first look at the new Wonder Woman costume worn by the new Wonder Woman actress Adrianne Palicki and as you may recall, the outfit was met with a lot of resistance and not a lot of love from WW fans. Today we get to hear from original Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter and her personal thoughts on new incarnation of Wonder Woman and, as you might expect from a classy lady like Carter, she had only positive things to say about the new WW costume and Adrianne Palicki in particular.

As soon as the photo of Adrianne Palicki as the new Wonder Woman was released today, the big question was: What does the original think of the revamped Amazonian superhero? Well, guess who I just talked to? Yup, Lynda Carter! Here’s what she had to say … “I think she looks fabulous,” said Carter, who originated the role in the classic (and oh-so-campy!) series in the mid-’70s. “It’s a new look and, jeez, her body looks fantastic.” Carter wants everyone to give Palicki a chance. “You know, I’m very sensitive to the fact that she will be compared,” Carter said. “There’s no getting around it. It is what it is. I would hope that people would cut her some slack. “I’m sure there will be people who say she looks better than me and like her better than me—and that’s also fine,” she continued. “I want this story to be told again. I’m really excited. I can’t wait to see it.” The series is being remade by legal eagle television writer David E. Kelley. And yes, Carter says, they’ve already talked about her making an appearance. “It’s not out of the question,” she said. “It would be great.”

I am not at all surprised to hear that Lynda Carter is the biggest cheerleader for the new Wonder Woman. For me, personally, I have no issue at all at this point with Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman. From what I hear about her acting, she will likely make a great Amazonian hero. My issue is with the cheap-looking costume. It’s amazing to me that Lynda Carter, wearing the original WW costume which is far more revealing, can look classy (and yes campy) while Adrianne wearing the new pleather WW costume (which covers more skin) looks trashy and cheap. Ugh. I just don’t see Wonder Woman in the new costume. But … it looks like the costume is here to stay. As for Lynda Carter‘s possible appearance on the new show … wouldn’t it be amazing if Carter ended up playing the role of Queen HippolytaDiana/Wonder Woman‘s mother? But, I can’t get exited about what could be when I’m so worried about what IS already decided. I do not love the new costume. I do NOT love what I’m hearing about the show’s plot and the character development of Wonder Woman. We’ll have to wait and see how things turn out but … not even Lynda Carter‘s endorsement at this point can alleviate my concern about what is being done to Wonder Woman :(

UPDATE: THIS Wonder Woman fan used Photoshop to change up the color scheme of the new WW costume and ends up making it look at lot better. The official new costume is on the left and the amended costume is on the right:

The color change makes all the difference. Even with the stylistic costume changes (pants, etc.), I can get behind the new costume with these colors. Let’s hope the Wonder Woman producers are paying attention to fan feedback.
