La MaMa E.T.C. presents the world premiere of Project: Lohan, written by D’Arcy Drollinger and directed by Ben Rimalower, April 29-May 8. Playwright Drollinger plays Lindsay in a cast that also includes Clayton Dean Smith, Brandon Olson, Cindy Goldfield, Emily McGowan and Brian Reiss. Described as a “multi-media, gender-bending theatrical experience,” the show is uses only published text from tabloids, magazines, entertainment TV and internet gossip sites. “From starlet to harlot, from hottie to hot mess, from fashion plate to prison inmate,” press notes state, “Lindsay Lohan has been the subject of arguably one of the most publicized rise and falls in showbiz history. The youngest person to host the MTV movie awards and earning over $7 million a picture before she turned 18, Lindsay had it all, but her love/hate relationship with the paparazzi played a significant role in her seemingly out-of-control spiral. The money, the fame, the feuds, the media-hungry parents, the lesbian lover, the insatiable paparazzi, five trips to rehab, two DUI’s, possession of cocaine, shoplifting, physical abuse and even carjacking — all played out in the public eye — will be reinterpreted for the stage; and will include other such luminaries as Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, Hillary Duff, Jessica Simpson, Scarlett Johansson, Samantha Ronson, Dina and Michael Lohan, Tina Fey, Jane Fonda, Leslie Sloan Zelnick and Wilmer Valderrama.” This Equity-approved showcase features set design by Chris Minard, lighting design by Wilburn Bonnell, costume design by Ryan J. Moller, sound design by Andrew Puccio, choreography by John Paolillo, hair design by Jon Jordan and projection design by Jason Corson. La MaMa, E.T.C. is located at 74A East 4th Street. For tickets, priced $18/$13 students and seniors, call (212) 475-7710 or visit www.lamama.org.
Full disclosure, director Ben Rimalower is a friend of mine and it is KILLING me that I won’t be able to see this show! It’s only running until 8 and from what I’ve seen in rehearsals, the show is simply brilliant! Lindsay has said and done enough for 10 theater productions … but Project: Lohan is the only one you’ll ever need to see. If you are in NYC, you MUST MUST MUST see this show.
Now, as for the real life Lindsay news … here’s what TMZ says she has decided to do in her misdemeanor theft case:
Lindsay Lohan will plead no contest to the misdemeanor theft charge she faces over that pesky necklace … sources connected with the case tell TMZ. We’re told Lindsay is committed to what she told Jay Leno this week — that she wants to accept responsibility and move on with her life. So Lindsay and her lawyer, Shawn Holley, will go back to Judge Stephanie Sautner as early as next week to enter the plea. Lindsay has already been sentenced to 120 days in jail for the probation violation, along with 480 hours of community service. Sources tell us Lindsay and her lawyer are banking on Judge Sautner not adding additional time on the theft charge. In other words, when Lindsay serves her 120-day sentence, that would be the end of it. And sources familiar with the case say that would be a routine disposition. L.A. County Sheriff’s spokesperson Steve Whitmore tells TMZ his rough calculation is that Lindsay would serve three weeks, although there are variables to that. We’re also told the L.A. County District Attorney is inclined to give the case to the L.A. City Attorney, since the D.A. typically prosecutes felonies and the case is now a misdemeanor. But now that Lindsay will plead no contest, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for the D.A. to kick the case to the City Attorney. Holley could not be reached for comment.
I’m not sure that I totally believe this just yet. Lindsay has been adamant about NOT pleading in this case — and no contest means she does not admit guilt but does accept punishment. Still, if she meant what she said in her Tonight Show interview earlier this week, maybe she is ready to take responsibility and pay for her crimes. Let’s see if she really does the right thing and then makes a plea in this case. If so, she will be back in jail soon. But, the sooner she serves her sentence, the sooner she gets to move forward with the rest of her life … and hopefully stay out of trubs.
After touring Europe and Japan, Kylie Minogue has brought her world tour to the US last night and officially kicked off Aphrodite Live 2011 in Boston, MA. Because her US tour isn’t as extravagant as her European tour (ie. no Splash Zone), I was worried what the “stripped down” version of the show would look like. As I understand it, very little changes have been made to the show now that it is here in the US. All of the numbers have been kept in tact, as well as the costuming and staging from the Les Folies 2011 Tour. Kylie has brought her FABULOUS show to our shores and she will be trekking her way across the country performing along the way! Check out some photos from the show and read a new interview with Kylie below.
Kylie Minogue jokes that she considered making a "Kylie 101″ video for her upcoming North American tour. It's an amusing idea because the United States is perhaps the last place in the world that needs a crash course in the Australian pop star's long and celebrated career. "We were trying to think how funny we could make it, acknowledging that [in America] it's only my fanbase who really have a clue who I am and where I come from and what I do,” Minogue says recently in a one-on-one interview with the Globe. "Other than that, we might need a Kylie 101.” She might be right. A casual fan here probably knows Minogue from her two Top 10 radio hits — "The Loco-Motion” (1988) and then "Can't Get You Out of My Head'' arrived 14 years later — but that's the extent of the dent she's made, at least on the charts. At 42 and on her first extensive tour of US cities, starting with Agganis Arena in Boston on Friday, Minogue is in an unusual position: She's the global pop icon who's on the verge of properly introducing herself to American fans who have adored — no, make that idolized — her from afar and for a very long time. "I know it's taken forever, but if it's anything like the last tour, which was my first tour in the States, the welcome was just mind-blowing,'' Minogue says. "I can't wait to get there and share the show with you, share an evening.” That first US tour was in 2009, when Minogue tested the waters with a string of headlining shows in big cities such as New York and Los Angeles. If the tour's scope was limited, it at least spoke volumes about her fans here. "You are, in fact, fierce and mighty,'' she says about what she learned from those shows. "I don't have the numbers, I'm not across the board in the States like I am in other countries, but honestly, the noise levels, the excitement levels, the dedication — it was overwhelming. I loved it.” It's astonishing to think Minogue will be making her Boston debut a full 23 years since her first album, "Kylie,” was released. The closest she has come to this city was in 2002 at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell for the multi-artist "Jingle Ball” tour. The Globe's review of that concert noted, "Euro-pop princess Kylie Minogue attempted to turn pop into art during her set,” before singling out Destiny Child's as the star of the show. That was the year when "Can't Get You Out of My Head,” an irresistible hit that lived up to its name, was in heavy rotation. Even though her commercial clout here peaked shortly after that, Minogue still wanted to give this market a go. "I finally bit the bullet and said, if I don't do this now, it's not going to happen. But I needed to go and put on a show that is representative of where I am in my career and how I like to present things,'' she says. "It was a beautiful experience. And now I'm coming back for more. So I'm making up for lost time” … Minogue's new tour centers on last year's "Aphrodite,'' the latest entry in her repertoire of exuberant European dance pop. Its songs extol the virtues of losing yourself in the music, of finding solace in the beat; but that doesn't mean the new tour is nearly as straightforward. Au contraire: It's a hulking spectacle, with aerial performers, dancers, and an epic theme based on the myth of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty, and sexuality. And just where does Minogue, who's famously petite, fit in such a production? "At the center, darling,” she says, letting out a girlish giggle that's as sexy as it is knowing.
What a great interview … and what great photos! The show really looks fantastic from what I can see. I was BLOWN away by the show I saw in Berlin, Germany last month so I know that this show, even slightly scaled down, will WOW US audiences. Wee!! I’ll be seeing Kylie here in LA and then in LV in a few weeks … until then, she’ll be rockin’ and rollin’ her way across the US … just like she was ALWAYS meant to :)
Last night was my second of three Prince concerts this week and I am happy to report that last night’s show was just as amazing as Thursday night’s show. As I say all the time, no two Prince concerts are ever the same. There something different in the Prince was feeling last night that gave the show an entirely different feel. I attended last night’s show at The Forum in Inglewood, CA with my good friends Angie and Ollie. With my O(+> tambourine in hand, we made our way to one of the funkiest concerts I’ve ever seen.
Obviously the vantage point from our seats last night was different than our much closer seats from Thursday night but we had a blast nonetheless. There really is NOT a bad seat in The Forum so I have no cause for complaint. Ollie and Angie were just as excited for the show as I was and we all danced and sang the night away. Here is the setlist from last night’s show:
Let’s Go Crazy Delirious 1999 Shhh Mountains 17 Days Lovergirl (Teena Marie cover) Give It To Me Baby (Rick James cover) Everyday People Play That Funky Music Glamorous Life (Sheila E performance)
The Question Of U The One Gingerbread Man Take Me With U Raspberry Beret Cream Cool (with Bass Jam instrumental) Let’s Work U Got The Look
Encore 1:
Make U Feel My Love Purple Rain
Encore 2:
Kiss A Love Bizarre Controversy
Encore 3:
Segment/Medley:
When Doves Cry Nasty Girl Sign O’ The Times The Most Beautiful Girl In The World Forever In My Life Darling Nikki Single Ladies I Would Die 4 U
Altho last night’s show was a bit shorter, it was FULL of energy. The Forum was more full so that energy played a big part in the show’s success. I’m not even kidding you, I could see Prince perform night after night after night for weeks and not get tired. Tonight, I’m seeing my third Prince show of the week with my really good friends Emma and Josh (neither of which have seen Prince in concert before). I can’t wait … Prince spoke last night about how everyone HAD to come see him tonight so … I’m excited! Altho I’m still not feeling 100%, nothing is going to keep me from seeing Prince in concert as many times as possible ;)
It’s the weekend, y’all!! I hope you have a great one!! :D
Dianna Agron (Glee) is 25, Kirsten Dunst is 29, Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory) is 36 and Cloris Leachman is 85 years old today. Click HERE to see who else is celebrating a birthday today.
At last, at last … Mariah Carey gave birth AT LAST! Congratulations are in order for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon because at just after 9AM PT (12PM ET), she gave birth to the couples first children — a boy and a girl. The twins were born today which just so happens to also be the Mr. & Mrs. Cannon‘s 4 year wedding anniversary … which is just too perfect for words. Read below for all the deets courtesy of People magazine!!
April 30 is double the pleasure for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. Not only did they welcome twins, but the couple celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary, too! Carey, 41, delivered the babies Saturday at 12:07 p.m. EDT at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles. Carey’s representative, Cindi Berger, confirmed the births to The Associated Press, saying the baby girl was born first, weighing 5 lbs., 3 oz., and was 18 inches long; her brother was next, at 5 lbs. 6 oz., and was 19 inches. And it was just as Cannon predicted. “I’m not trying to be a psychic, but we renew our vows every year so … It’s probably going to be in the hospital this year. I can feel it,” Cannon said Thursday when he guest-hosted The Talk. “We got the minister coming in, so this gown will not be a wedding gown, but a hospital gown.” Berger says they were listening to Carey’s “We Belong Together” after the children were born … As for the origin of their babies’ names, Cannon told PEOPLE in January that the couple had aimed for unique but not wacky. “They won’t be crazy names like Carburetor or something,” he promised. “But they’re definitely unique.”
OMG … it’s about damn time! What a truly special day for Mimi and Nick. Not only are they celebrating the birth of their twin children today but they are also celebrating the 4 year anniversary of their marriage. April 30 will truly be one of the most important days in the couple’s lives … for all time! I can’t wait to hear more deets about the twins’ birth — including their names — but I think we’ll have to wait a bit to get that info. For now, let’s just send all of our love and congrats to the happy NEWLY EXPANDED family! May they live very long and very happy lives together!!! Wee!!
Broadway star Daniel Radcliffe was surprised this week by his Harry Potter co-star and BFF Emma Watson backstage in his dressing room after a performance of his new musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Altho DanRad was still dripping with sweat from his raucous performance last night, he was happy to welcome and pose for a photo with the lovely Miss Watson. Check out the photo below.
Emma Watson surprised her Harry Potter co-star Dan Radcliffe backstage at his Broadway show last night. The 21-year-old actress joined the star in his dressing room after watching him perform in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York City. The pair, who are clearly close after their many years on the set of the hit wizard franchise, hugged affectionately as they posed for the camera. She has previously described their relationship as ‘like brother and sister’. Radcliffe, also 21, plays J. Pierrepont Finch, a window washer who climbs the corporate ladder in a short space of time. ‘What’s great about the part is that the stuff he does is pretty unpleasant,’ said Daniel. ‘He gets people fired, but you love him for some reason.’ ‘You believe in him and want him to succeed and it’s great fun.’ Daniel had singing lessons for his musical debut on the Broadway stage, which has largely won good reviews. Emma, who this week confirmed she was transferring from Brown University to another school this autumn, has been focusing on her fashion pursuits while taking a break from her studies. The pair will soon hit the promotional trail to coincide with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in July.
It’s really very very cool to see these two are still so close. I imagine that Dan, Emma and their co-star Rupert Grint will end up being life-long friends. The young actors really grew up together and likely share a bond that is very familial. These two still have a bit of promo work to do for the final Harry Potter film which will be released in theaters (and will absolutely devastate legions of people around the world) in July. But last night, it was all about Daniel and his hot new Broadway show. Aren’t these two just so cute? I love them as BFFs!!
We know that the sunshine can always brighten up a day and make us all smile. But the spring rays did more than that for the girls from Glee who suddenly found themselves with a big spring in their step. Led by Lea Michele, who plays Rachel, the ladies danced their way round Washington Square Park in New York yesterday as they filmed scenes for this season’s finale. And they looked like they were having a great time as they skipped and tapped and sang their hearts out. Lea, 24, was joined by her female co-stars Ashley Fink, who plays Lauren, Heather Morris, who plays Brittany, and Jenna Ushkowitz, who plays Tina. Also in the line-up were Dianna Agron, who stars as Quinn, Naya Rivera, who plays Santana, and Amber Riley, who stars as Mercedes. All wore brightly-coloured clothes which stood out in the bright spring sunshine as they danced round the famous arch and across the park. They were joined by their male co-stars Corey Monteith, who plays Finn, Kevin McHale who plays Artie, Mark Salling, who plays Puck, Harry Shum Jnr, who plays Mike, Chris Colfer, who plays Kurt, and Chord Overstreet who plays Sam. And they soon became the centre of attention as scores of fans, tourists and curious onlookers stopped to watch them filming. The cast have been in the Big Apple since last Monday, as they shot scenes which will show the New Directions Glee club head to Manhattan for the Nationals competition. They have spent several days in the same clothes, as seen in these shots, but they have managed a few other wardrobe changes for scenes filmed in Central park between Lea and Monteith and outside Tiffany’s jewellers for Lea and Colfer. But it’s not been all work for the young stars who have had the opportunity to explore the city and relax in between scenes.
How fun has NYC been this past week? With all these Glee spottings all over town, I’m certain that the rabid Gleeks in Manhattan were having a field day running all over town following the cast as they filmed in various locales. I love Glee here in LA but you can see how the show would do very well if it filmed in NYC. I believe production in the Big Apple will wrap this weekend so … the Glee cast will be making their way back home to LA very soon. I cannot WAIT to see how this ep turns out. It looks so fun :) Do you think it’s possible that the William McKinley Glee Club might actually win at Nationals this year?
With just about 2 months to go until our dear Britney Spears kicks off her Femme Fatale Tour in June, we are getting our FIRST LOOK at some rehearsal video footage that has been made available for our viewing pleasure. Lookin’ very much like the Britney Spears that we all know and LOVE from days of yore as she and her troupe of dancers rehearse the dance moves for her song How I Roll. Check out some screencaps and video below.
She looks fabulous!!! I can’t even believe we are SO close to the start of the tour!! This has been a pretty great week for Britney Spears news. It is being reported that Britney will meet and greet fans who plunked down for the $1000 VIP tickets for her tour (which is really a once in a lifetime opportunity because Britney does NOT usually meet fans … under any circumstances). Additionally, Jive Records has announced that her new album Femme Fatale went platinum this week … meaning it has sold over 1 million copies! Woot!!! And today, we get to see Britney working hard for her upcoming tour. Check out this fun video:
I LOVE this video of Britney. The ponytail and tube top look is CLASSIC Britney. This is what she wears when she rehearses her ass off … and she looks goooood, y’all. Don’t forget … The Femme Fatale Tour will start in mid JUNE … so make sure you get your tickets. Britney is hitting the road with Nicki Minaj, Jessie and the Toyboys and Nervo! It’s gonna be a HOT show!! As for this video … she looks great, don’t she?
Welp … Prince William and Kate Middleton, the now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are married and today we get our first look at the official photos taken by photographer Hugo Burnand just after the wedding ceremony was completed. The newlyweds posed with members of their wedding party as well as Their Royal Highnesses Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh. Check out the serious but playful photos below.
Kate Middleton and Prince William’s official royal wedding pictures have been released – and it is the turn of a cheeky-looking pageboy to steal the show. After bridesmaid Grace Van Cutsem drew smiles yesterday as she clapped her hands over her ears against the noice of the crowd while the newly-weds kissed, Tom Pettifer leaned in over the bride’s head for this shot. The happy couple look to be enjoying the moment too, with big smiles, William leaning towards his bride and her hand resting affectionately on her husband’s knee. The photos were taken by the couple’s official wedding photographer Hugo Burnand in the Buckingham Palace throne room. Best man Prince Harry wore a big grin as he joined his brother, their family and Prince William’s in-laws the Middletons for the official family photo. And William’s bride looks every bit a princess as they pose for their official wedding portrait.
It’s no surprise that the official photos of the Royal Wedding would look perfect … but these photos look especially perfect. The colors, the placement … just … perfect. Kate looked so amazing. I understand Sarah Burton designed Kate‘s dress as an homage to Grace Kelly‘s elegant wedding dress and the effect is striking. Wills looks absolutely THE picture of princely perfection in his red jacket. And will you PLEASE look at that huge grin on Prince Harry‘s face? He’s the next to get married, you know. I mean … it’s possible he may stay a lifelong bachelor but my guess is that he will take a wife … and I hope that wife will be his currently estranged girlfriend Chelsy Davy. They may be broken up now but don’t forget … Wills and Kate broke up a few times too ;) In any event, I’m rambling … I do LOVE these official photos. See folks, fairytales do come true ;)
