Osama Bin Laden Has Been KILLED By US Military Forces [UPDATE]

Posted: 01 May 2011 09:49 PM PDT

Osama bin Laden, the monster responsible for the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in NYC, NY and the Pentagon in Washington DC, is DEAD! President Barack Obama announced just hours ago that a US-led military assault on bin Laden’s private residence resulted in his death. In the attack, bin Laden’s oldest son was also killed, bringing to an end an almost decade-long search for the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. Read on for the reported details of this hugely important accomplishment by US military forces.

The mastermind of the worst terrorist attack on American soil is dead, U.S. President Barack Obama announced late Sunday night, almost 10 years after the attacks that killed more than 3,000 people. Osama bin Laden — the longtime leader of al Qaeda — was killed by U.S. forces in a mansion outside the Pakistani capital of Islamabad along with other family members, a senior U.S. official told CNN. U.S. officials have taken custody of bin Laden’s body, Obama said. No Americans were harmed in the operation, he added. U.S. diplomatic facilities around the world were placed on high alert following the announcement of bin Laden’s death, a senior U.S. official said, and the U.S. State Department should be sending out a new “worldwide caution” for Americans shortly. Some fear al Qaeda supporters may try to retaliate against U.S. citizens or U.S. institutions. Hundreds of people arrived at the White House late Sunday night and chanted, “USA! USA!” They then chanted, “Hey, hey, goodbye!” in reference to the demise of bin Laden and then spontaneously sang the national anthem. “This welcome news is a credit to our intelligence efforts and brings to justice the architect of the attacks on our country that killed nearly 3,000 people on September 11, 2001,” said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, the ranking Republican on the Homeland Security Committee, in a statement issued Sunday night. The news brought some relief to the grieving family members of those killed on 9/11. “This is important news for us, and for the world. It cannot ease our pain, or bring back our loved ones,” Gordon Felt, president of Families of Flight 93, said in a statement. “It does bring a measure of comfort that the mastermind of the September 11th tragedy and the face of global terror can no longer spread his evil.”

Impromptu celebrations have broken out in front of the White House, and most especially at the site of the fallen World Trade Center buildings. As morbid as some may think this may be, bin Laden’s death is sure to bring relief and a sense of closure to the people who suffered as a result of bin Laden’s pure and total evil. This monster has been KILLED! IMHO, one death is not enough to pay for all the lives he is responsible for but I am quite satisfied, personally, knowing that bin Laden is dead and gone! We are just months away from the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001 … it seems pretty certain that altho the memorial will, once again, be a somber one there will also be an outburst of celebration over final justice on bin Laden himself. Osama bin Laden is dead … dead and gone … mission: accomplished at last!

UPDATE: Here is video of President Barack Obama‘s formal speech announcing the death of Bin Laden:

Here is the full text of President Obama‘s historic speech:

Good evening. Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama Bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.

It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history. The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory – hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky; the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground; black smoke billowing up from the Pentagon; the wreckage of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the actions of heroic citizens saved even more heartbreak and destruction.

And yet we know that the worst images are those that were unseen to the world. The empty seat at the dinner table. Children who were forced to grow up without their mother or their father. Parents who would never know the feeling of their child’s embrace. Nearly 3,000 citizens taken from us, leaving a gaping hole in our hearts.

On September 11, 2001, in our time of grief, the American people came together. We offered our neighbors a hand, and we offered the wounded our blood. We reaffirmed our ties to each other, and our love of community and country. On that day, no matter where we came from, what God we prayed to, or what race or ethnicity we were, we were united as one American family.

We were also united in our resolve to protect our nation and to bring those who committed this vicious attack to justice. We quickly learned that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by al Qaeda — an organization headed by Osama Bin Laden, which had openly declared war on the United States and was committed to killing innocents in our country and around the globe. And so we went to war against al-Qaeda to protect our citizens, our friends, and our allies.

Over the last 10 years, thanks to the tireless and heroic work of our military and our counterterrorism professionals, we’ve made great strides in that effort. We’ve disrupted terrorist attacks and strengthened our homeland defense. In Afghanistan, we removed the Taliban government, which had given bin Laden and al Qaeda safe haven and support. And around the globe, we worked with our friends and allies to capture or kill scores of al Qaeda terrorists, including several who were a part of the 9/11 plot.

Yet Osama Bin Laden avoided capture and escaped across the Afghan border into Pakistan. Meanwhile, al-Qaeda continued to operate from along that border and operate through its affiliates across the world.

And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of Bin Laden the top priority of our war against al-Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.

Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to Bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located Bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama Bin Laden and bring him to justice.

Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama Bin Laden and took custody of his body.

For over two decades, Bin Laden has been al-Qaeda’s leader and symbol, and has continued to plot attacks against our country and our friends and allies. The death of Bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s effort to defeat al-Qaeda.

Yet his death does not mark the end of our effort. There’s no doubt that al-Qaeda will continue to pursue attacks against us. We must – and we will – remain vigilant at home and abroad.

As we do, we must also reaffirm that the United States is not – and never will be – at war with Islam. I’ve made clear, just as President Bush did shortly after 9/11, that our war is not against Islam. Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader; he was a mass murderer of Muslims. Indeed, al-Qaeda has slaughtered scores of Muslims in many countries, including our own. So his demise should be welcomed by all who believe in peace and human dignity.

Over the years, I’ve repeatedly made clear that we would take action within Pakistan if we knew where Bin Laden was. That is what we’ve done. But it’s important to note that our counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to Bin Laden and the compound where he was hiding. Indeed, Bin Laden had declared war against Pakistan as well, and ordered attacks against the Pakistani people.

Tonight, I called President Zardari, and my team has also spoken with their Pakistani counterparts. They agree that this is a good and historic day for both of our nations. And going forward, it is essential that Pakistan continue to join us in the fight against al-Qaeda and its affiliates.

The American people did not choose this fight. It came to our shores, and started with the senseless slaughter of our citizens. After nearly 10 years of service, struggle, and sacrifice, we know well the costs of war. These efforts weigh on me every time I, as Commander-in-Chief, have to sign a letter to a family that has lost a loved one, or look into the eyes of a service member who’s been gravely wounded.

So Americans understand the costs of war. Yet as a country, we will never tolerate our security being threatened, nor stand idly by when our people have been killed. We will be relentless in defense of our citizens and our friends and allies. We will be true to the values that make us who we are. And on nights like this one, we can say to those families who have lost loved ones to al-Qaeda’s terror: Justice has been done.

Tonight, we give thanks to the countless intelligence and counterterrorism professionals who’ve worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome. The American people do not see their work, nor know their names. But tonight, they feel the satisfaction of their work and the result of their pursuit of justice.

We give thanks for the men who carried out this operation, for they exemplify the professionalism, patriotism, and unparalleled courage of those who serve our country. And they are part of a generation that has borne the heaviest share of the burden since that September day.

Finally, let me say to the families who lost loved ones on 9/11 that we have never forgotten your loss, nor wavered in our commitment to see that we do whatever it takes to prevent another attack on our shores.

And tonight, let us think back to the sense of unity that prevailed on 9/11. I know that it has, at times, frayed. Yet today’s achievement is a testament to the greatness of our country and the determination of the American people.

The cause of securing our country is not complete. But tonight, we are once again reminded that America can do whatever we set our mind to. That is the story of our history, whether it’s the pursuit of prosperity for our people, or the struggle for equality for all our citizens; our commitment to stand up for our values abroad, and our sacrifices to make the world a safer place.

Let us remember that we can do these things not just because of wealth or power, but because of who we are: one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Thank you. May God bless you. And may God bless the United States of America.

President Obama Skewers Donald Trump At The White House Correspondent’s Dinner

Posted: 01 May 2011 02:29 PM PDT

In the past few weeks, Donald Trump jumped on board the “birther” movement bandwagon that called into question the citizenship of President Barack Obama in an effort, I believe, to draw attention to himself in the hopes of possibly running for president at some point. Last night, Trump was among the guests at the annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner in Washington DC and got a LOT of attention drawn to him as he became the foolish butt of the BRILLIANT comic stylings of President Obama (and then Trump got skewered again by Seth Meyers). Trust me, you MUST watch the video below of President Obama and Meyers skewering Trump and very effectively turning him into the literal joke that he has become.

President Barack Obama got some serious jabs in last night against birther and presidential hopeful Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents Dinner, making light of the birth certificate controversy that the real estate mogul had made the centerpiece of his campaign. Obama was speaking at the annual event in Washington, D.C., that calls for the president to do a bit of comedy. His main target was Trump, who was at the event as a guest of the Washington Post. According to several media reports today, Trump was visibly uncomfortable as the president mocked his birther crusade. Obama chided Trump and his work on his NBC reality television show “The Apprentice,” focusing on his decision last month to fire Gary Busey instead of rock singer Meat Loaf. “These are the types of decisions that would keep me up at night,” Obama joked. “Well handled, sir.” Obama said he would begin his remarks with a supposed video of his own birth — a reference to the media attention surrounding questions of his birthplace — and then showed a clip from Disney’s “The Lion King.” Comedian Seth Meyers, the night’s main comedic voice, was a bit more relentless with his mocking of Trump. “Donald Trump often talks about running as a Republican, which is surprising,” Meyers said. “I just assumed he was running as a joke.” And also: “Donald Trump owns the Miss USA pageant, which is great for Republicans because it will stream line their search for a vice president.” During Meyers’ bit, Trump can be seen in the video staring icily back.

Brilliant. Just … brilliant. I truly hope this will effectively shut Donald Trump up for good … it’s wishful thinking, I’m sure, but just watching him seethe as he impotently sat there as the butt of the joke was just … brilliant. Well done, President Obama. Well done, Seth Meyers. You’re DONE, Donald Trump ;)

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Moves Filming Production To NYC

Posted: 01 May 2011 01:59 PM PDT

When last we saw photos from the set of the upcoming reboot film franchise The Amazing Spider-Man, the action was being filmed on the streets of downtown Los Angeles. In an effort to give the film a more realistic look (considering Spider-Man lives in NYC, NY) the filming production of the movie has made its way to Manhattan. Check out below photos of leads Andrew Garfield (as Peter Parker) and Emma Stone (as Gwen Stacy) on the NYC set of The Amazing Spider-Man.

It looks like the final filming production will focus on exterior shots … so that the film will look as if it were filmed in NYC when the majority of it was actually filmed in LA. Hollywood movie magic, y’all. I’m actually growing more accustomed to the idea of Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. I mean, I still see the guy from The Social Network when I see photos like these but I can envision how he may replace Tobey Maguire in my mind as Peter/Spidey. We still have a year to wait before the film gets release so I guess we have a lot of time to get used to the idea of a new Spider-Man.

A ‘Whole Lotta Love’ 4 Prince

Posted: 01 May 2011 01:28 PM PDT

Last night I attended my third Prince concert of his 21 Night Stand in Los Angeles residency at The Forum in Inglewood, CA and — as you might expect — I had the time of my life! People have been asking me which of the 3 shows (thus far) has been the best and honestly, they each were “the best”. Because the shows are different every single time, there is something very special and memorable about each show. Last night, I went to the show with Emma and Josh and we had a BLAST! The show as full of amazing guest stars … making it truly one of the most memorable shows I’ve ever attended.

Gwen Stefani, Sheila E. and Nikka Costa were the surprise guests who performed on stage with Prince last night. For some reason, there was no opening act … right at about 9PM, Prince hit the stage and rocked out until 12AM (after 5 encores). The setlist was full of amazing gems … songs that I’ve personally never seen performed live before. Of the shows I’ve seen, last night’s was the first to feature Prince performing solo songs on his piano. His performances of Something in the Water Does Not Compute and Strange Relationship immediately made the show one of the most important concerts I’ve ever attended. Here is the setlist from last night’s show in full:

Setlist:

So Far, So Pleased (Gwen Stefani on vocals)

Encore 1:

Whole Lotta Love (Nikka Costa on vocals)

Encore 4:

Single Ladies (Beyoncé snippet)
Sign O’ The Times
The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
Darling Nikki
Hot Thing
Black Sweat

Encore 5:

The Bird
Jungle Love
A Love Bizarre (Sheila E. on vocals)

Gwen Stefani sings vocals on the song So Far, So Pleased from Prince‘s album Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic and, to my knowledge, she has never performed the song with him on stage before last night. Fortunately, some industrious fan managed to film some video of their performance last night:

The best collabo of the night, tho, IMHO was Nikka Costa singing the Led Zepplin song Whole Lotta Love with Prince on guitar … it was just … SICK! The whole show was just a lot of fun. During one of the encores, all the VIP table folks got brought up on stage — including Gwen and hubby Gavin Rossdale, Kirstie Alley (who is an old personal friend of Prince‘s) and her Dancing with the Stars partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy and others. It really felt like one big house party. I am SO happy I got to see these 3 shows … and I am planning on going to the 3 shows next weekend and the 3 shows the following weekend. I’m going to go to as many of these Prince shows as I can. At $25 a show, it’s a crime NOT to attend. I have a lot of resting up to do before next weekend’s shows so … I’m gonna get some sleep :)

Shia LaBeouf Gives Us A Peek At His Surprisingly Hot Bod

Posted: 01 May 2011 12:22 PM PDT

Shia LaBeouf, who will be starring this Summer in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, has been spending a lot of time in the gym lately because outta nowhere homie got himself a serious body. While picking up a drink at a local gas station here in SoCal, Shia wiped his mouth with his t-shirt (cuz clearly the lad doesn’t carry a handkerchief for such occasions) and inadvertently gave us a peek of what’s been hiding under his clothing. I gotta say, Shia‘s grown up to be pretty hot these days.

Now, Shia here may not be as ripped as Jason Momoa in Conan the Barbarian but he ain’t lookin’ too shabby. All of that action film work he’s been doing has clearly had a positive effect on his physical fitness … which I can totally appreciate :) Keep up the good work, Shia. And feel free to give us a peek at your goods any time you like ;)

Jason Momoa Will Play A Gnarly-Looking Conan The Barbarian

Posted: 01 May 2011 11:04 AM PDT

Previously we’ve seen promo photos of Jason Momoa in costume as Conan the Barbarian but none of them really showed how gnarly the character will look in the film. Even the original Arnold Schwarzenegger Barbarian films featured a Conan that looked, for the most part, “pretty”. But today we get to see a new photo of Momoa as Conan and as you can see … he actually looks like a barbarian … with facial battle scars and all.

I am really loving the way this new Conan film is starting to shape up. I am always so bothered by fantasy films that feature “barbarian” type characters that have perfect skin, perfect hair, perfect teeth … it’s not believable. Trust me, I get that audiences don’t always go to the movies to see ugly, dirty reality … but I know I really respect realism in film. It’s hard to tell from just this one photo, but it seems as if Momoa‘s Conan will be a grittier, more roughed up barbarian … which I really like. If this photo is a sign of things to come, I’m sold. Um … and can we please, for a moment, take some time to recognize his SICK body? I may have not been a big fan of Jason Moma‘s casting as Conan the Barbarian initially but I’ve certainly changed my opinion based on what I’ve seen of the promo materials thus far. I am really likin’ what I’m seein’ so far.

Mike Tyson’s Tattoo Artist Sues Producers Of ‘The Hangover Part II’

Posted: 01 May 2011 10:31 AM PDT

S. Victor Whitmill, the Missouri-based tattoo artist who inked the infamous tribal tattoo on boxer Mike Tyson‘s face, is suing producers of The Hangover Part II for copyright infringement. As you may know, one of the characters in the sequel film sports an exact replica of Tyson‘s face tattoo in a majority of the film and Whitmill is demanding compensation. At first, I thought his claim was baseless … but it turns out that Whitmill actually copyrighted the tattoo design after he inked it on Tyson‘s face. He might actually have a very strong case … which would mean the Hangover folks may have to pay him a LOT of money in the long run.

The artist behind Mike Tyson’s famous facial tattoo sued Warner Bros. in federal court Thursday over the tattoo’s design being replicated on Ed Helms’ face in the upcoming film “The Hangover Part II.” Missouri artist S. Victor Whitmill, who tattooed Tyson’s face in Las Vegas in 2003, brought the suit in St. Louis court seeking to block Warner Bros. from using the tattoo in ads for the film, which is due out in late May. The suit alleges that Whitmill retained all the rights to the image, including the copyright, even though it was tattooed to the former boxer’s face, the St. Louis Times reported. Whitmill currently works out of a studio in Waynesville, Mo. In the R-rated film’s trailer, Helms’ character acquires the tattoo after a wild night of bachelor revelry with costars Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha and Zach Galifianakis. Helms’ character, who famously loses teeth in the first film, has to deal with the stamp on his face before his wedding day. “When Mr. Whitmill created the Original Tattoo, Mr. Tyson agreed that Mr. Whitmill would own the artwork and thus, the copyright in the Original Tattoo,” the complaint said. “Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. — without attempting to contact Mr. Whitmill, obtain his permission, or credit his creation — has copied Mr. Whitmill’s Original Tattoo and placed it on the face of another actor … This unauthorized exploitation of the Original Tattoo constitutes copyright infringement.” The ads have been ubiquitous and the appearance of the tattoo is a pivotal tease to a second cameo for Tyson despite his absence in the trailer. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the lawsuit.

HMMM. This could turn out to be very problematic for Warner Bros. In the end, Whitmill will have to prove that he does own the copyright for the tattoo design but if he can do so, WB will be forced to pay. There doesn’t seem to be any way to release the film without using the face tattoo design. To be honest, I had no idea that one could copyright a tattoo design but … I suppose they can. I am actually very curious to see how this lawsuit turns out … who do you think will win?

Newlyweds Prince William & Kate Middleton Emerge The Day After Their Royal Wedding

Posted: 01 May 2011 09:37 AM PDT

The couple may have been married in regal fashion in front of the entire world on Friday, but Saturday — the day after the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton — the couple looked about as normal as they ever have before. Wearing an outfit that any woman can pick up in almost any shopping mall around the world, Kate the Duchess of Cambridge emerged on her first day as a member of the British Royal Family lookin’ very much like the people’s princess.

She entered Westminster Abbey a commoner and walked out a Duchess. But as Catherine Mountbatten-Windsor, Duchess of Cambridge left Buckingham Palace with her Prince yesterday morning, she proved that her feet remain firmly on the ground. The outfit chosen by Kate for her first day as a member of the royal family cemented her status as the new people’s princess. Eschewing designer labels, Kate stepped out in a cornflower blue £49.99 Zara dress with £129.99 black patent pumps from LK Bennett (the same pair she wore for her King’s Road shopping spree the day before her wedding), paired with a simple black jacket. Of course, her glossy brunette mane was perfectly coiffured, her make up – which she applies expertly herself – was subtle but impeccable, and the hemline revealed just enough of those ‘killer pins’ – a reference to which Harry was said to have struck out of his best man’s speech at the last minute for fear of embarrassing his new sister-in-law. It has been widely commented that Kate has handled her courtship and wedding to William with typically understated aplomb, never losing the relaxed girl-next-door charm that William found so attractive. She champions the High Street, and ahead of her wedding was seen visiting various mid-market stores to pick up summer pieces, said to be for her honeymoon trousseau.

It’s insane to me that Wills and Kate can go from such insane pageantry one day to complete normalcy the next. Kate is now a member of the British Royal Family and, yet, you’d think it was just any ol’ day for her. It’s clear that Kate is taking cues from the beloved life of William‘s late mother Princess Diana. Whether intentional or not, I think it’s a very fitting tribute to pay to Diana. I think if I managed to suddenly become a member of any royal family, I’d be running around town with a crown on my head, waving around a diamond-studded scepter like a crazy person … at least for a few days. To be honest, I’m not at all surprised that Kate seems to be handling her new station in life with such grace and normalcy. I always felt that Kate was destined to become a member of the royal family. She fits in perfectly. I guess things are really back to normal for these two.

Scarlett Johansson & Sean Penn Take Their Love Affair Public

Posted: 01 May 2011 08:57 AM PDT

Altho the cat has been out of the bag for a few weeks now, it would seem that new lovebirds Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn are finally ready to go public with their love. You may recall that we learned back in March that the couple started “hanging out” together for cozy lunch dates … then came the late night dinner dates, then came the couple’s appearance together at the wedding of Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth in late March. Thru it all, the couple have were never photographed together … until now. Scarlett and Sean attended the White House Correspondent’s Dinner in Washington DC last night and were spotted in each other’s close company afterward. Hand in hand, Scarlett and Sean left the soirée looking very much “together”.

There’s been a spate of denials about Scarlett Johansson’s relationship with Sean Penn, ever since rumours first surfaced that they were more than just friends. So the Hollywood stars are going to have to come up with an ingenious explanation about these new photos. As they left a politically-charged event in Washington D.C. Scarlett, 26, and Sean, 50, stroll casually through the grounds of the president’s home holding hands – the actress wrapped up in his suit jacket. The kind of behaviour that bears all the hallmarks of a normal, loving relationship, and not a regular platonic friendship. It’s not the first time the couple have been pictured displaying more intimate interaction with one another than a typical pair of friends. In early March they were pictured enjoying a cosy lunch together at a restaurant in Los Angeles. Scarlett had removed her shoes and placed her feet on Penn’s lap, while they ate together at the Versailles restaurant. Later that month it was also reported that they had gone away on a romantic trip to Mexico, where they were again seen displaying unusually affectionate body language. But the denial has been stringent from the start. In February a spokesperson for Miss Johansson simply stated: ‘Scarlett and Sean are not dating – they have been friends for years. Nothing more, nothing less.

Oh yeah, they are SO together. The initial denial came in February, a month before the couple were first spotted together in public … so technically, I guess it could’ve been true that they were not “together” back then. It’s been a few months since then, and we’ve got hand-holding. My guess is that the couple are trying to keep things as quite as possible because Scarlett *just* filed for divorce from soon-to-be ex-hubby Ryan Reynolds in December … but, it’s not secret that Sean Penn is a fiercely private man. I don’t expect that we’ll hear any official confirmation that the couple are together together but … these photos are pretty much all I need. Could they be in it for the long haul? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Something they make an odd couple but I can see how this relationship might work. Who knows, stranger things have happened. So what do y’all think? Do you think these two are really together together after seeing these photos?
