The District 10 Tributes Have Been Cast In ‘The Hunger Games’

Posted: 10 May 2011 04:30 PM PDT

Today we learn that two more roles have been cast in the upcoming film adaptation of The Hunger Games … the unnamed tributes from District 10. Like their predecessors, these nameless tribute roles have been filled by unknown newcomers. Jeremy Marinas will play the boy tribute from District 10 and Dakota Hood will play the girl tribute. Read below for the known deets about these latest additions to The Hunger Games.

Lionsgate announced on the adaptation's Facebook page the identities of the film's District 10 tributes. Jeremy Marinas has been cast as the unnamed quiet boy from District 10, whose most notable characteristic is his limp. Dakota Hood has been cast as the District's unnamed female tribute. Marinas, like many other Hunger Games tributes, has performed stunt work, for the likes of The Green Hornet and the Sherlock Holmes sequel. He's also had roles in series like Mortal Kombat: Legacy and The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, and even had a bit part on Community. Hood has only one credit to her name: The 2007 movie Scripture Cake: A Southern Cuisine Movie. Marinas and Hood join Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth, Paula Malcomson, Willow Shields, and several relatively unknown actors playing fellow tributes. Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross and adapted from Suzanne Collins' dystopian novel, will be in theaters March 23, 2012.

This casting should be the end of the newcomer actors. The final pair of tributes from District 2 are named — Cato and Clove — and are among the 8 tributes competing in The Hunger Games with any real storyline. They will likely be cast by known actors … and the announcement of who will play those roles should come soon (tomorrow?). There are still other big character roles to fill … but for the most part, the film is already pretty much cast. I can’t wait to find out which character roles will be announced next.

New Photos From ‘Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter’ Have Hit The Internets

Posted: 10 May 2011 03:30 PM PDT

In late March we learned that filming production was underway on the New Orleans, LA set of the big screen adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and today we get to see the first promo photos released from the film. The New York Times published a feature today on the film and they provide us with our first look at Lincoln in the movie. Check out the photos below.

Mary Todd Lincoln, in shimmering evening wear, calls to her husband. They are late. A gaunt, black-clad president strides to join her in a horse-drawn carriage bound for Ford's Theater. The rest is history. But not the usual kind. As the Lincolns depart, a vampire stares from his perch on the South Portico of the White House. This is a film set, at the 179-year-old Evergreen Plantation here, and the cast and crew of the movie, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," are scrambling to deliver a summer blockbuster. It is set for release, in 3-D, by 20th Century Fox in June of next year. The filmmakers are also creating one of the more startling historical revisions in movie memory. Their Lincoln, you see, is a devoted slayer of the undead. Hollywood is certainly in need of an attention getter. And in building one around Abraham Lincoln, it might be poised to expand the presidential aura far more dramatically than did films like "The American President," which turned a fictional chief executive into a romantic lead (with a hint of Bill Clinton), or "Air Force One," in which a president became an action hero (foretelling a flight-suited George W. Bush?). Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote the pop-novel mash-up on which the movie is based, said he was beginning to suspect that his "Vampire Hunter" conceit tapped something deeper than originally planned. Speaking by telephone last week, he said he couldn't help thinking of Lincoln and vampires on seeing President Obama with "his chest pumped up" after the killing of Osama bin Laden. "There's something in the American psyche, we want our presidents to be warriors," Mr. Grahame-Smith said. "We're giving that to Abraham Lincoln, sort of posthumously in this case." … The "Vampire Hunter" film, like the book, follows Lincoln from his boyhood on the frontier through his assassination by John Wilkes Booth and — because this is a vampire story — beyond. Young Lincoln, having learned that his grandfather and mother were killed by vampires, vows to kill every last blood-sucker in a country that is crawling with them. On realizing that vampires are tangled in the slave trade, Lincoln's resolve grows and takes on a moral dimension. To complicate matters he also learns that the creatures come in two varieties, good and bad. This last is a point of convergence with Mr. Bekmambetov, who was born in Kazakhstan and is based in Moscow. His action films — among them "Wanted," with Angelina Jolie, and the Russian-language "Night Watch" — depict warfare among magical forces that lurk just out of sight. "I believe, I believe," Mr. Bekmambetov said, when asked if this universe is rooted in conviction or is just a movie conceit … Mr. Bekmambetov is concealing the full aspect of the non-humans in his film. "The one thing I'm not supposed to talk about is the look of the vampires," Mr. Audouy said, but he promises something "unexpected."

The book is just genius in scope. I much prefer Lincoln to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (which is also being turned into a film) and I can’t wait to see how the film turns out. Timur Bekmabetov is an absolutely visionary film director … I fully trust that he will make this film dark, beautiful and entertaining. It’s gonna be a long wait til this film comes out next year … but these teases along the way are very welcome.

Taylor Momsen & Jessica Szohr Will NOT Be Returning To Gossip Girl Next Season

Posted: 10 May 2011 02:47 PM PDT

The next season of Gossip Girl is going to be two Gossip girls lighter because today we are learning that actresses Taylor Momsen and Jessica Szohr have been dropped as series regulars. Taylor and Jessica‘s characters — Jenny Humphrey and Vanessa Abrams, respectively — have pretty much been M.I.A. all season long this year so it’s not a big surprise that they are being cut from the show. Read on for all the reported deets of the ladies’ exit from the show.

Spotted: Little Miss Jenny Humphrey and Vanessa Abrams getting the pink slip from the CW. OK. Not really. But a source close to the show did confirm that Taylor Momsen (Jenny) and Jessica Szohr (Vanessa) will not be returning to "Gossip Girl" as series regulars. The news is hardly shocking. It's no secret that the eyeliner-addicted Momsen has made her rock band Pretty Reckless her main focus. And Szohr hasn't been involved in any major plotlines for a while — plus, her character recently revealed that she was leaving town to study abroad (always the perfect solution for getting rid of a character). But the rest of the GG gang — Blake, Leighton, Chase, Ed and Penn — remains intact. And Kaylee DeFer, who plays Serena's cousin Charlie, has been promoted to series regular.

To be honest … Gossip Girl has been losing me … not because of these characters or anything but … the show has become stale and tired, IMHO. I’ve been watching religiously all season long and I feel that I don’t have anything to show for it. 90210 has been a MUCH more satisfying investment. I have loved every ep all year long … and the season finale next week looks gooooood. As for GG, well, I’ll watch the finale but I am not at all sure I’ll be watching when it returns next season. To be honest, cutting Momsen and Szohr prolly won’t do anything to save the show in my eyes. What do ya’ll think? Are you happy or sad to see these characters get written off the show?

Watch: The ‘Glee’ Version Of Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’

Posted: 10 May 2011 01:30 PM PDT

On tonight’s episode of Glee, Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) duets with Jesse St. James (Jonathan Groff) on Adele‘s stunningly beautiful song Rolling in the Deep. We are still a few hours away from tonight’s ep of Glee … but if you just can’t wait any longer, you can check out video from tonight’s ep of Rachel and Jesse‘s duet below.

This is truly one of my fave new songs. I’m not surprised at all that Glee chose it for tonight’s ep … and I am really loving this version of the song. Glee gets some of the songs they cover very right … this is case in point. What do you think of this Glee version of Rolling in the Deep?

My So-Called Monday

Posted: 10 May 2011 12:57 PM PDT

So these cold-like symptoms that I picked up over the weekend have been kicking my butt a bit. I wouldn’t say I’m really “sick” per se but I have been feeling kinda crappy for the past couple of days. Sore throat, runny/stuffy nose and some body aches … you know, the usual. I ended up staying home all day yesterday which actually turned out to be a great idea because I was able to watch a bunch of episodes of the brilliant 90′s teen drama My So-Called Life on Netflix.

Now, I’ve owned My So-Called Life on DVD for years now … but I never got around to watching the show. In fact, I haven’t watched the show since it aired on TV back in 94-95. I had forgotten how amazingly well written the show is and watching the first few eps last night reminded me of what a groundbreaking and important show it truly was. Of course, good shows don’t necessarily mean good ratings and My So-Called Life was canceled way before it should’ve been. My So-Called Life featured an openly gay teen character (Ricky, played by Wilson Cruz) YEARS before anyone else and it really told stories that were really real. The writing is the best thing about the show, yes, but the acting performances by the young cast (Claire Danes, Jared Leto, etc) is also really remarkable. I know that some of you young’ns out there have never seen or even heard of My So-Called Life … but for those of you who do remember the show, I urge you to take another look. It deffo holds up as a great show. I may not have been feeling all that well last night but at least I was able to enjoy my evening with the My So-Called Life kids ;)

No plans for tonight … I’ll prolly keep recuperating. We’ll see. Happy Tuesday!!

Watch: Upsetting Video Of The ‘Water For Elephants’ Elephant Being Abused Comes To Light

Posted: 10 May 2011 11:42 AM PDT

Last month, the new film Water for Elephants was released here in the US that showed the ugly side of the abuse and mistreatment of animals in circuses. In the plot of the film, an elephant is beaten bloody with a device that is meant to “train” animals to comply with human commands. As difficult as it was to watch those scenes, audience members were assured that the abuse featured in the film was not real and that no animals were harmed in the making of the film. Today, we get to see some very upsetting video footage that claims to show some of the same abuse featured in the film happening in real life to the elephant star of Water for Elephants. This video, released by Animal Defenders International, claims to show the mistreatment of Tai the elephant (called Rosie in the film) as she was being prepped for the film. Be warned, the video below may be upsetting to watch.

Video released by Animal Defenders International shows the elephant that appears alongside Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson in the new film Water for Elephants, being beaten and electric-shocked during training. Water for Elephants, a romantic drama set in a 1930s animal circus in the USA, starring Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson, is premiering all over the world this month, with the London Premier last Tuesday. But the biggest star of the film is 42-year-old Asian elephant Tai, who plays Rosie, supplied by the performing animal supplier Have Trunk Will Travel, of California. In the film Rosie, played by Tai, is brutally attacked by the circus owner who beats her with a bull hook. But the producers, stars, and trainers have been at pains to stress that Tai was trained with kindness, marshmallows, and positive reinforcement. Gary Johnson, a founder of Have Trunk Will Travel claimed: "Tai was never hit in any way at all". American Humane observed the animal action during filming and said: "We're here observing prep on Water for Elephants and so we're here to make sure that everybody knows that not only the action on set but also the prep is humanely done, all these animals have been treated fairly and humanely throughout the entire course of their training." However shocking video, filmed at Have Trunk Will Travel in 2005, has been posted online by Animal Defenders International (ADI) after the London premier, that tells a different story.

- Elephants including Tai are repeatedly given electric shocks with hand held stun guns
- Tai cries out when being shocked into performing a headstand
- Elephants including Tai are beaten about the body and legs with bull hooks
- A baby elephant is hooked in the lip and cries out
- An elephant is pinned with bull hooks whilst her tusks are sawn down, close to the bone

Jan Creamer, Chief Executive of ADI said: "We were uncomfortable with the message of this film, but the more we saw the repeated assertions that this elephant has been treated with love and affection and never been abused, we realized that we had to get the truth out. The public, the stars and the filmmakers have been duped. This poor elephant was trained to do the very tricks you see in the film by being given electric shocks."

Ugh. It was very difficult for me to watch the animal abuse scenes in Water for Elephants but I tried to comfort myself with the belief that it was “only a movie” and that the animals were not really being harmed. But I think I’ve always known that animals that appear in films, especially large ones like elephants, have to be “trained” in some way to get them to “behave” in front of the cameras. Wild animals do not do tricks when asked. They have to be “trained” to do so. While Tai may not have been hit on set, she must’ve been trained beforehand in some way. I have long ago given up any support for circuses or any other shows that feature animal performers. This kind of mistreatment happens everyday … animals are abused like this merely for human entertainment. I think it’s very important that information like this, as difficult as it may be to see/hear, gets out. People need to know what’s going on in cases like this. Blah.

Courtney Love Kindly Requests That You Do Not Refer To Her As ‘Crazy’

Posted: 10 May 2011 10:57 AM PDT

When last we heard from Courtney Love, she was selling her couture fashions on eBay to presumably raise some of the money that she had to pay out after being ordered by the court to pay out a reported $430,000 in the Twitter defamation lawsuit brought against her earlier this year. In March we learned that C. Love rejoined the Twitterverse but it turns out she created a different username to post her ravings to her closest friends. With this new account, Courtney asks the world (and bloggers in particular) to NOT call her “crazy” … and then she goes on to post a series of what some might call “crazy” tweets. Read all the wacky below.

i do not enjoy being called “Crazy” by blogs, please stop it. its hurt my reputation enough i am by 0 means “crazy” fuck off now. go bye bye / yes i am hurting, i am hurting, i am knife stinging hurting but the end is nigh, gettin the tax transcripts, 000000000o’s / i know its still my meltdown in 04 foreverrrrrr with these retards, look at the facts and shut up, not easy is it? / better be a good one this time kid. seriously. no bs crap sex,. i need, to be thrown around the room you have five minutes to get upstairs / oh right your not a “kid” ok fine prove it, see you in 4, 3 2

Very much on the contrary, I must contend that it is not “bloggers” that have hurt Courtney‘s reputation, it has always been Courtney‘s frantic and unstable behavior that has hurt her reputation. In fact, it’s her unstable behavior that helped her foster a reputation that she has been able to turn into a “career”. I simply cannot have any respect for someone who so carelessly throws around hurtful slurs like this. Courtney may not be technically “crazy” but she is definitely unstable and a total mess. I’m actually amazed that she is able to function at all. I honestly thought she’d be able to clean up her act enough to make a go of her music career again but after the release of the new Hole album last year, she managed to fritter away the opportunity that she had to get her life back on track. Now all Courtney Love does is post inane messages on her Twitter account, in a seeming attempt at garnering any attention. It’s sad really. I can’t even laugh at any of this. C. Love has really become just a wreck of a person :(

Watch: Sarah Michelle Gellar Talks About Voicing The ‘Call Of Duty’ Video Game

Posted: 10 May 2011 10:28 AM PDT

Late last month we got our first look at Buffyverse alum Sarah Michelle Gellar in a new video game called Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation – Call of the Dead (watch the video HERE) and today we get to watch a new interview with SMG talking about her appearance in the game. According to SMG, she has been a fan of the Call of Duty video game series because of her hubby Freddie Prinze, Jr‘s love of the game and she decided to voice the game because it was a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to be a part of something that will “last forever”. Click below to hear what else SMG has to say about her role in the new Call of Duty video game.

I really love that SMG gets to be the first playable female character in the Call of Duty games. She deffo is the ideal woman to play such a kickass character. The best part of this video is the footage from her recording session for the game. It’s so cool to see SMG working behind the mic … especially when everything that comes out of her mouth sounds like something Buffy the Vampire Slayer would say ;) This is a cute video. I can’t wait to play this game now!

Brad Pitt Chills With The Twins Here In SoCal

Posted: 10 May 2011 10:06 AM PDT

This past weekend may have been all about the mothers but daddy Brad Pitt managed to get in on the kiddie love as well. Brad took his twin children with pseudo-wife Angelina Jolie to a park here in SoCal for a little playdate/bonding time. It was an afternoon of fun for Brad and twins Vivienne Marcheline & Knox Léon. Check out the cute photos below.

It costs Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie a whopping $10million a year to raise their six children. But despite the huge bills for nannies, language tutors and private jets, the youngsters prefer nothing more than spending time with their parents. Brad treated his youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, to a trip to the park in Hollywood this week. Like any proud father, Pitt took photographs of the two-year-olds on his mobile phone, coached them as they came down the slide, and kept a watchful eye as they ran around. Both looked the spitting image of their older sister Shiloh when she was younger, as they played together. The pair share her blonde shoulder-length hair, but while Knox has inherited his father’s blue eyes, Vivienne’s appeared to be her mother’s dark blue/grey. Talking of the twins Jolie has previously revealed they are ‘classic boy and girl. She's really female. And he's really a little dude’. From their clothes it seems their mother is right, with Vivienne choosing a girly floral dress for her day out, while Knox was dressed in shorts and a black T-shirt. Pitt and Jolie are planing on moving their family to the south of France, where they are renovating a £35million château.

I love these little munchkins. They are getting so big … and they are just too adorable. I think Knox looks so much like Angelina while Viv looks a bit more like Brad. It’s rare that we get to see the twins out and about like this … let alone on such an intimate playdate without any of their siblings. There has been talk that Brangelina are ready to adopt another child to add to the Brangelina bunch but it kinda looks like Brad is just happy enjoying the children they already have.

Rhys Ifans Unmasked On The Set Of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’

Posted: 10 May 2011 09:17 AM PDT

Last week we got our first look at actor Rhys Ifans on the NYC set of The Amazing Spider-Man and, as you may recall, he was completely covered from head to toe in order to cover his costume/make-up as the villainous Lizard. But you may also recall that the eye holes of Ifans‘s mask gave us a wee peek at some of his Lizard make-up (see the photos HERE). Today we get to see Rhys Ifans unmasked on the set of Spider-Man and it is now plainly clear that he will play Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard in the film. We also get our first look at Martin Sheen in costume as Peter Parker‘s Uncle Ben. Check out the photos below.

He’s played some really slimy characters in his time. But now Rhys Ifans has gone one step further and actually started to mutate into something reptilian. The Welsh actor sported what looked like scales on the side of his neck while in New York. Of course, it’s just some very clever make-up as he starts filming his role in the new film, The Amazing Spider-Man. Rhys, 43, plays Dr Curt Connors, who transforms into super villain The Lizard after ingesting a serum containing reptile DNA. The pictures were taken on set in New York and also showed Rhys with his arm in a green sleeve, which will be used to airbrush out his arm, as Dr Curt Connors is an amputee who lost his arm in an explosion while serving in the army. In the scene, he talks to Andrew Garfield, who plays Spider-Man and his human alias Peter Parker, outside his school where Dr Connors teaches. Like The Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Sandman and Venom before him, Dr Connors becomes an enemy of Spider-Man when he fully transforms into a lizard. After losing his arm, he became obsessed with how some reptiles can regenerate their limbs and wanted to find a way to make that possible in humans. He developed a serum and tested it on himself, which made his arm grow back but the side-effect of the serum saw him turn into a giant green reptile. Little detail has been revealed on how the Lizard will be depicted on the screen, but Spider-Man creator Stan Lee said recently he was thrilled with how the movie is taking shape. The film, which will be released next year, is believed to be focused on Peter Parker developing his abilities in high school. It also stars Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Sally Field and C.Thomas Howell.

So, yeah, it’s fairly obvious that The Lizard will be the big bad in The Amazing Spider-Man … but will he be the only one? It’s possible that the film may feature more than on villain. Also, I LOVE Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben. He is a great actor and he will make a great Uncle Ben. It’s so funny to see all the classic Spider-Man characters we know recast with different actors. I think I’m really starting to look forward to the release of this reboot. As much as I loved the original films … I can’t help but be curious to see how this new reboot will turn out.

Prince William & Kate Middleton Finally Get Their Honeymoon

Posted: 10 May 2011 08:19 AM PDT

In the days following Prince William‘s Royal Wedding to Kate Middleton, we saw photos of Wills gettin’ back to work with his Royal Air Force rescue team and photos of Kate doing a bit of grocery shopping. The couple had to delay their honeymoon because of Wills‘s work schedule. Today we learn that William finally completed his duties and has been given leave to take his honeymoon … which he did. It is being reported that Wills and Kate have jetted off to a private island in the Seychelles to enjoy, at last, their honeymoon together.

Prince William and Kate Middleton, the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have arrived in the Seychelles for their honeymoon after flying out on a private jet last night. Their romantic break, which comes 10 days after their Westminster Abbey royal wedding, was confirmed by St James's Palace. A spokeswoman for the Indian Ocean country’s department of tourism said the royal couple landed at the country’s main airport at 7.20am local time this morning. They were then transferred by helicopter to a private island where they were expected to spend 10 days at a secluded villa. The name of the island where they are staying has not been confirmed. On Monday, the couple were seen leaving their Anglesey home with large amounts of luggage … The couple only have a few weeks to squeeze in their romantic break before they begin their first joint tour. They are due to visit Canada and California for 10 days. Prince William, 28, and his 29-year-old wife have previously enjoyed holidays together in the Caribbean island of Mustique. It is understood that the second in line to the throne had kept the honeymoon destination a secret, but that it was going to be somewhere warm.

Even tho we are talking about a royal honeymoon with private jets, helicopters and islands, for the most part Wills and Kate have kept things relatively normal. Most couples just jet off on their honeymoons as soon as they are wed but a great many cannot do so because of work and/or family issues. I’m certain that William could’ve gotten the early time off from his RAF duties if he really wanted to but instead he decided to work the week after his wedding and push back his honeymoon. Now the couple are sunning themselves, presumably, on holiday together … perhaps they are even planning on making a baby ;) Here’s hoping the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge truly get to relax and enjoy their 10-day honeymoon on their private island. Hmmm … must be nice.

Maria Shriver & Arnold Schwarzenegger Are Dunzo!

Posted: 10 May 2011 07:36 AM PDT

Late yesterday the LA Times broke the very surprising news that former California governor/actor/bodybuilder/Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger and his political opposite wife Maria Shriver (of the famed Kennedy family) decided to separate after 25 years of marriage! Even tho this news came as a shock to many, it is now being reported that the couple have been on the outs for a few months now. In fact, the couple didn’t even spend Mother’s Day together. For whatever reason and for some time now … Maria and Arnold have been DUNZO, y’all!

The 25-year celebrity marriage of movie star-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger and star TV correspondent Maria Shriver of the Kennedy clan appears on the rocks. In answer to a Los Angeles Times query Monday, the couple issued a joint statement saying: After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart while we work on the future of our relationship. The 55-year-old Shriver has moved out of their Brentwood mansion, but the statement stressed they continue to raise their four children — ages 21, 20, 18 and 14 — together, calling them “the light and the center of both of our lives.” And the pair appealed for privacy … This spring, Schwarzenegger said he hoped for a cinematic comeback and he has since signed for three films, including another Terminator chapter. A comment that he had not discussed a new show business venture with his wife combined with other hints of a split. Husband and wife have been traveling widely — and separately. She has appeared publicly without her wedding ring, as our colleague Mark Barabak notes here, and has spoken of stressful transitions in her life. And their anniversary last month went unnoted by them on social media. Word of the split swept widely across Twitter on Monday evening with common comments such as “How sad!” and “I didn’t see that coming.”

HMMM … it sounds like the LA Times kinda stumbled onto this story … it appears that they casually asked a question and they got a bombshell of an answer. Because the couple often spent much time apart, no one bat an eyelash when photos were taken of the couple NOT TOGETHER on Mother’s Day. According to TMZ sources, the split has been in the works for a while now:

Maria Shriver has been “miserable” in her marriage for a long, long time, sources connected with the couple tell TMZ … and it’s all about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “craziness.” We’re told Maria moved out of the couple’s L.A. mansion months ago. Sources tell us she’s been extremely unhappy in her marriage for years, complaining about Arnold’s out of control ego, as well as his womanizing. We’re also told Maria feels Arnold has ignored her for years and she’s felt terribly unappreciated. Sources say the couple has spent “very little time together” for several years. Maria was frequently absent from Sacramento while Arnold was Governor. The situation got worse once Arnold left office and decided he wanted to resurrect his movie career. Maria felt Arnold was becoming more erratic — more “unstable.” Our sources say Maria’s religious views caused her deep distress over whether to split and/or divorce. As one source put it: “She’s been a lost soul for a long time.”

UGH … it does sound like Maria has been miserable for a while. But, as a member of the famed Kennedy family, I’m sure she was instilled with the belief that you personally endure hardship in order to save face in the public. 25 years of unhappiness, tho, sounds like too much to bear. Altho I was surprised to learn of this split, I’m not at all surprised to learn that the couple have been unhappy for a long time now … and it really sounds to me like a break-up is the best thing for the both of them. I suppose this is further proof that bipartisanship is really difficult to make work.
