The Young, Black, and Fabulous

Do Beyonce & J.Lo Look THAT Much Alike?

Posted: 04 Feb 2011 08:30 AM PST

It's every diva celeb's worst nightmare....to be mistaken for someone else.

Apparently J.Lo and Beyonce still look very much alike even to photographers.  Check out video of J.Lo suffering from a case of mistaken identity in NYC this week when you read on...

Not sure why this is so hilarious to me, but it is.  Jenny Lopez hopped out her car in an all black outfit with her hood on earlier this week as she hit up the Sirius XM offices.  But apparently the paparazzi photogs couldn't tell her blonde hair from Bey's.

He was trying to get her attention by saying "Hey B" and saying they "go way back" and all.  Apparently not far back enough because he couldn't even tell this was actually Jenny from the Block he was talking to and snapping pics of.

When Jennifer came out the building...with her hood off...the WOMP WOMP shock factor was set in place for the photog.  Of course, Jenny remained silent the whole time.  But would pay money to be a fly on the wall of her car right afterwards though....

Scarface Locked Up For Being A Deadbeat Dad + Michael Kyser Named First President Of Black Music At Atlantic Records Group

Posted: 04 Feb 2011 08:17 AM PST

Southern rapper Scarface has been behind bars nearly four months for failing to pay child support in four separate cases. Get the deets inside and find out about Michael Kyser being named the first President of Black Music for the Atlantic Records Group.

In case you’ve been wondering why you haven’t heard any new remixes or mix tapes featuring Scarface, it’s because he’s locked up for being a deadbeat. XXLMag.com has confirmed that the rapper has been locked up since October 13, 2010 in the Montgomery County Jail in Texas. He is being held for failure to pay child support in four separate cases.

In addition to the child support cases in Harris County, Montgomery County, Fort Bend County and the state of Missouri, he is being held for a federal case, in which the exact charges are unknown.

SMH…When you have that many kids and no hit records, I imagine it would be hard to keep up with the payments. He must owe a great deal to be in jail for four months with no signs of release.

In other music news,

Michael Kyser (pictured above with T.I. and Kim Porter) has been named the first President of Black Music for the Atlantic Records Group. Michael has been in the hip-hop game for years, first as a Def Jam’s national radio and DJ promotion rep in 1992, then moving onto Warner Music Group.

For his new role, Michael said,

"To say that this is a dream come true is an understatement. The heritage of black music at Atlantic Records is second to none in this industry, and it is both humbling and thrilling to take on this new post at a label with such an amazing legacy. To be a part of the birth of the new Atlantic over the past seven years has been an extraordinary experience."

His COO Julie Greenwald said this about him,

"Kyser has been my trusted colleague and close friend for nearly 20 years, since we both joined Def Jam. We grew up together in this business. He has a deeper understanding of the urban music landscape than anyone in our industry. Kyser has immersed himself in the music and the culture, and he is a master at creating opportunities, building careers, and developing invaluable artist relationships. He has been a down-to-earth mentor and guide to artists and staffers alike, earning the genuine respect and loyalty of everyone he works with. I am very proud to announce this much-deserved promotion."

And what does the big boss over at Warner have to say about Michael? When asked about the job, Lyor Cohen, Warner Music Group Vice Chairman and Chairman and CEO had this to say,

"I've seen him evolve into one of the most admired and accomplished members of the urban music community. This appointment is richly deserved."

Rihanna's "S&M" Director Talks Video Controversy + Sources Claim Gabriel Aubry Said "Don't Call Nahla BLACK!"

Posted: 04 Feb 2011 07:27 AM PST

Melina Matsoukas, the director of Rihanna's "S&M" video, is responding to all the controversy surrounding their latest work.  Find out what she had to say inside plus get the scoop on the latest accusation in the Halle Berry vs. Gabriel Aubry battle...

We told you earlier that Rihanna's latest video "S&M" has been banned in 11 countries and the director has been accused of ripping off David LaChapelle's previous VOGUE work, now Melina Matsoukas is speaking out about her work.  In a recent interview with MTV News, she said,
"When I go out to make something, I kind of go out with the intention to get it banned — [well] not to get it banned, I always want my stuff played — but to make something provocative.  "So when you do something that's provocative, that's usually a repercussion. It's gonna be talked about or banned or slandered in some way. But it's making an effect and people are having a dialogue about it, so, to me, that's successful."
Melina, who also directed the Rihanna vid for "Rude Boy" and "Rockstar 101," finds the criticisms amusing.
"I mean, the song is called 'S&M'!" she laughed. "So I think that the imagery follows suit with what the song is. I wouldn't play down the imagery for a song that's so strong. It makes sense to develop it further and really take it there. So if they don't want to play it, [fans] can watch it somewhere else."
So what does Rihanna have to say about the headlines the video is making around the world?
"I haven't talked to Rihanna about the controversy," Matsoukas said. "But she was happy that MTV had no changes, and she was definitely like, 'See? We made it through!' Because the whole time we were like, 'If we use ball gags and we show this, are they gonna play it?'And we just went for it and didn't care, and people seem to be embracing that."

In today's installment of the Halle vs. Gabriel custody wars....

"Sources close to the former couple" (insert side-eye) are now telling TMZ that when Gabriel Aubry read newspaper articles that referred to his daughter Nahla as "Black," he would go postal and insist that his baby was "White." The sources said Gabe would even insist that Halle demand a retraction.
At this point...the stories coming from the "sources" seem like rejected tabloid fodder.  I don't buy this one...well, not completely.   I wish for the sake of Nahla, the sources would fall back and let Halle and Gabriel deal with this in court.  BUT...If this is true, I'm not sure I ever wanted to know THIS much about the ex-couple.

Rihanna Accused Of Ripping Off Photographer For "S&M" Video, Gets BANNED In 11 Countries + Juelz Santana Released From Jail

Posted: 03 Feb 2011 07:33 PM PST

Rihanna is in hot water with fans who have been accusing her off ripping off the imagery of David LaChapelle for her "S&M" video.  Get the deets inside plus get the deets on Juelz Santana's release from jail.

The provocative "S&M" video Rihanna just released has been banned in 11 countries and continues to cause controversy.  Most recently, the video became a trending topic on Twitter because fans accused Rihanna of copying images and concepts take from David LaChapelle's previous work.

A well-placed source in David LaChapelle’s studio told RadarOnline.com that David wasn't involved in any way with the video.  However, their office became aware of the similarities between the video and David's work when staffers who handle his fan page, Twitter, and Facebook account began receiving a lot of messages regarding the video.

“Interns told us that fans were buzzing about the video and wanting to know if David had directed it.  Then the phone in the office started ringing off the hook, everyone was like ‘wow it’s amazing – it’s the exact same."

The source claims that Melina Matsoukas, the director of the video, had photographs from past Italian Vogue shoots by David, ranging from 1995-2002, laying around the set of the music video shoot.  This may have had some type of influence.  (side-eye).

So far, neither spokespersons from David LaChapelle or Rihanna have responded to the accusations.

Juelz Santana was released from jail earlier today and he had a mouthful to say about the New Jersey police department raiding his studio and setting him up.

"Jersey, their laws is a little bit different. I'm definitely a target out here just because of who I am. They pull me over... [there's] only one way to get to my studio, so every day I gotta take that route when I'm going to my studio in Jersey, so I get pulled over at least three times a week, 'cause they know all my cars. They looking to get me, regardless," he said. "I don't know why. I haven't done anything. I do music. I'm not selling drugs like they said I was doing. I'm not doing none of those things. So at the end of the day, I just don't understand their need to imply all the things that they trying to imply."

He says the Jersey cops have been looking to set him to up to drain him of his cash.

"It's about money. They don't care about the criminals, they want that money. They said, 'We gon' get him, he can get high bail.' Whether the charges stick or not, they gon' get their money," said Juelz.

He continued,

"If they saying they had an investigation ... 125 percent they ain't got me doing or saying anything," he said. "They can tap my phones right now. At the end of the day, I don't care, because that's not my business. I've been done with that, that life. Especially selling weed. It ain't like they said, 'Oh we raided his studio, we found 100 pounds of marijuana.' ... They found less than a half a ounce of weed in a studio. In a studio? That's what people do — go to the studio, smoke weed. So why would you assume that's being sold instead of being smoked? Then at the end of the day, I wasn't even there, so how would you pin some charges on me?"

Seems like Juelz is taking the stance that the people caught in the studio with the drugs should shoulder the charges.  Afterall, he was not at the studio during the raid.

"They gotta go by sessions. At the end of the day, I own the studio, I rent the studio out. That's like ... if I go to a studio right now downtown, and I bring my weed and my guns down there — not to say that that's what I'm doing — and I go down there and they run in the studio and they gonna let me go and lock the people from the studio? They had no idea what I was doing. That's the same situation I'm in."

Juelz almost seemed to boast about his relationship with the Bloods street game, another claim brought up by the Jersey cops.

"I been gang-affiliated since day one. Everybody knows that, everybody know we got a heavy affiliation with the Bloods since day one. They just try to amp things up. The media, they amp things up [and] make it sound more than what it is. Gang affiliation, I'm around Bloods. People around me happen to be around more Bloods than anything else, so they assume that's what I'm doing. But I know Crips too. I know Latin Kings," he said, adding that police "don't really all the way do their job, they just vibe off of information."

And despite being a target, Juelz said he plans to continue to record in his studio.

"I'm [going to] record in that studio. At the end of the day, why should I move? I didn't do nothing!" he maintained. "I ain't gonna have them run me out of somewhere 'cause they got it out for me. I'm just gonna have to, at the end of the day, make sure things that ain't supposed to be happening while I'm not around just ain't happening. Besides that, I'm going right back to work. Like, leave me the f--- alone. Y'all wanna run in here, run in here. I ain't doing nothing. Ain't got nothing to hide."

RUMOR CONTROL: "Parent 'Hood" Star Tyrone Burton Cuffed, But WASN'T Bootlegging DVDs

Posted: 03 Feb 2011 06:33 PM PST

Remember that late 90's sitcom "Parent 'Hood" with  "Zaria," "Michael," "CeCe," and Robert Townsend's character?  Remember "T.K.", government name Tyrone Burton?  Well news and pics broke tonight of him getting handcuffed in L.A. due to him allegedly bootlegging DVDs on he street.

But that's not the real story.  Read on for the juice...

Sources reported tonight that Tyrone was cuffed by LAPD this afternoon on suspicion of selling bootlegged DVDs.  But police couldn't find evidence of him breaking the law, so he was let go.

But YBF has learned that the incident happened yesterday afternoon--not today.  And not only was Tyrone not bootlegging DVDs, he was actually out on the streets selling his own DVD called Promise.  A photographer named Kat, who snapped the pics, said that once LAPD figured out he was selling his own ish, they immediately let him go.

No harm, no foul.  Props on his hustle.  But damn, homie who's made it in the industry over 10 years is out on the streets selling his own DVDs now?  Just feel like an agent or street team or somebody should be pitching in for this duty.   He is kinda looking like one of those dudes who walks up in the beauty shop shop on Saturday hawking the bootlegged movies that just came out on Friday.  Just sayin'....

Scottie Pippen's Wife & More Gear Up For "Real Housewives of Miami", "Real Housewives of New York" Pushed Back!

Posted: 03 Feb 2011 03:07 PM PST

Well what do we have here?  Just as I was getting uber excited for the Feb. 15th return of the "Real Housewives of New York" and all of Kelly Bensimon's candyland ass fairytales, we learn that the show has been pushed back.  And replaced by "The Real Housewives of Miami".  Who knew this was even in the making?

Deets on which MIA basketball wives are set for the Bravo foolery when you read on...

I guess Bravo heard folks' pleas about their lack of diversity across the board.  Not just a lack of black folks outside of the basic "Atlanta Housewives," but a lack of Latinas, Asians, Middle Eastern women, etc.

So, I guess the brand new "Real Housewives of Miami" is Bravo's answer.  No YBF Chicks.  Surprise, surprise.  But, of course, there's a few spicy Latinas.

The series premieres February 22nd.  And, now that the network has revealed the six newest stars via press release today, here's the run down of who's who (pictured left to right):

Alexia Echevarria is the executive editor of Venue magazine, where she covers fashion and celebrity culture. She lives on Miami Beach with her husband Herman and has two sons from a previous marriage.

Marysol Patton (who supposedly pitched this show) is a Miami native who runs her own PR firm, the Patton Group. A divorcee, Patton is known for throwing bashes around town and loves to spend time with her mother, Elsa, who considers herself a "seer" and offers spiritual guidance people in town.

Larsa Pippen is married to basketball star Scottie Pippen and was known as the "Hottest NBA wife." A mother of four, Pippen boasts that she's successful at everything she does.

Cristy Rice was recently divorced from NBA star Glen Rice. The show will follow her single life as she juggles business (she owns a clothing store) and being a single mom.

Lea Black has a 9-year-old son with her lawyer husband. A strong supporter of President Obama, the Texas-born Housewife is invested in her own charitable endeavors.

Adriana DeMoura-Sidi is fiery and flirtatious and ... newly engaged. Her personality lands her in trouble and the subject of much gossip among the ladies.

Both Scottie Pippen's and Glen Rice's (ex)wives?  Well this ought to be interesting.  Interestingly, word on the street back in March was that Larsa, Marysol, and Lea were all pitching a different show to Bravo tentatively called "The Miami Social Club."  Guess Bravo decided to pull a switcharoo and induct them into the Housewives franchise instead.

And if you're wondering WTF is going to happen to the "NYC Housewives," (their new promo pic is above), word has it they're pushed back till spring.  These Miami chicks are replacing them.  Weird since the promos for their Feb. 15th premiere date have been running all week on Bravo.

The folks over at ChicagoNow.com and Entertainment Weekly say that they viewed the first episode of "NYC Housewives," and it was underwhelming at best. But not as boring as "The Real Housewives of D.C."  Bethanny is only going to appear minimally on the show, as she has her own show, "Bethanny Ever After," airing soon on the network.

There are two new housewives, and not much drama.  Especially coming fresh off the fireworks of "Beverly Hills" and "Atlanta."

Damn homie.  All I know is--I'm serious about my "Housewives" shows.  So these Miami chicks better keep me entertained....

Juelz's Statement On Arrest + Drew Sidora's Cocaine Smuggling Boyfriend Involves Her In Federal Investigation!

Posted: 03 Feb 2011 09:09 AM PST

Juelz Santana was arrested yesterday for possession of drugs and firearms. Get the deets on Juelz troubles inside plus find out how dating a cocaine dealer got Drew Sidora caught on some federal wiretaps...

As we reported yesterday, Juelz Santana was arrested yesterday in connection with a raid on his studio earlier this month. Police had been looking for the rapper since January 20th.

He was charged with "possession of a firearm, possession of a handgun without a permit, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school."

If you want a breakdown of what Juelz had, cops say they found two loaded 9mm handguns in the studio, along with 17 small bags of marijuana. They also claim Juelz is a member of the feared Bloods street gang, which is the biggest street gang in New Jersey.

Juelz Santana, aka Laron James, was taken to Bergen County Jail in Hackensack on $125,000 bail.

“We are hopeful that my Brother will be released tonight. He is just being processed through the system right now. I posted his bail earlier today. All computers are currently down at the Prosecutor’s Office," said Jermaine "Twin" James, Juelz's older brother and manager.

In other drug related news....

Falling in love with a drug dealer may not be good for your image as actress/singer Drew Sidora is finding out.

Drew's name has been mentioned in a federal drug case involving a variety of shady Baltimore men, accused of shipping hundreds of kilos of cocaine from Southern California to Baltimore.

Drew, who has recently appeared on "The Game," had been dating Ricky Brascom, one of the owners of Behind Da Scenes Entertainment, a label that promotes Chicago rapper Paypa. They claim Ricky used private jets to import over 400 kilos of cocaine into the city of Baltimore (a street value of $4 million).

After months of wiretapping Ricky's phone conversations, police heard Drew telling him she feared he may be arrested because of what he does.

While Drew has not been charged with any crime, her name is now being associated with the shady underworld of Baltimore, which won't be a good look at the NAACP Image Awards. I know folks don't make the best decisions when they are in love, but I hope Drew gets it together and realizes she is too talented and pretty to associate herself with the underworld.
