TWITTER BEEF: Sole Puts Female Fan On Blast For "Sexy" Tweeting Her Husband Ginuwine?

Posted: 02 Jul 2011 09:24 AM PDT

Although Ginuwine is getting up there in age, the man is clearly aging like a fine wine and can still get women's hearts aflutter.  Exhibit A, the recent twitter fight amongst his wife Sole, their daughter Cypress and a fan...all about who has the right to DM Ginuwine.  See the exchange inside....

We aren't sure if this was the particular fan who started all this -ish but, Ginuwine was at Kings Dominion recently and he tweeted a pic of himself planking.  One fan from Brooklyn responded to the twit pic with her phone number...for all of us to see.  She asked if he ever hung out with fans.  Hmmm...to do what?

And over on Twitter, Sole expressed her feelings about women DMing her man.

ESSENCE MUSIC FEST FAB: Usher, Fantasia And Jennifer Hudson Rock The Mic In New Orleans, Celebs Party It Up

Posted: 02 Jul 2011 07:11 AM PDT

Thousands of music lovers went down to the ESSENCE Music Festival this weekend in New Orleans, Louisiana and we have pics from Day One at the Superdome last night. See Usher, Macy Gray, Fantasia, and Taraji P. Henson hitting the stage and partying it up in VIP after the jump....

Jennifer Hudson was one of the main attractions at the festival inside the Superdome this year.

She looked amazing in a simple black dress that looked very appropriate for going to a "festival."

And look who else took the stage:

Fantasia was there on the main stage....and I know we are all looking at her stomach and asking ourselves, "Is she....or isn't she?"

Macy Gray hit the stage with a bedazzled microphone.

Boyz II Men brought their 3-part harmony to the stage.

Miguel rocked one of the super lounges.  I'm trying to figure out what's going on with those pants though.  Actually this whole outfit in general.

Charlie Wilson hit the mainstage and brought out that 80s soul and R&B flavor.

Soul singer Dwele performed.

Doug E. Fresh was spotted at the Fest too.

Did you know that Dru Hill was OFFICIALLY back together?

Thought they gave that up after that reality show last year. Guess not.  Hey Sisqo, Nokio, Tao, Jazz!

LeToya Luckett made the rounds with Slim Thug.  Yeah--seems like they really are back together.  We tweeted a pic of these two last night chillin' in the VIP Belve Lounge backstage.  Very interesting....

Mathew Knowles posed with Eric Benet.  I wonder if he bumped into LeToya?  And how THAT convo went...

Hosea Chanchez and his on-screen girlfriend Tika Sumpter were spotted around the Dome.

The very sexy Tank rocked out in one of the lounges.

I don't know if she sang, danced or did a monologue but Taraji P. Henson surely kept the crowd entertained in the McCafe.

And for the headliner of last night:

Mr. Entertainment was there.

His entrance was to "OMG" and he flew above the crowd on to the stage riding on this neon green lit plank.  Craziness.

Is that a bulge impression or just our eyes playing tricks on us?  I see Mr. Raymond in a WHOLE new light now.  Yes indeedy....

Usher pretty much killed the stage last night.

Fab times.

Celebs Head Down To New Orleans For 2011 Essence Music Festival!

Posted: 01 Jul 2011 10:03 PM PDT

It's that time of the year again!  The 2011 Essence Music Festival has more than kicked off this 4th of July weekend in New Orleans, and The YBF is on the scene covering all the events and concerts at the Superdome and around town. (FOLLOW US ON TWITTER for backstage access, insider pics, and dish.)

We've got pics from Day 1 around the city at the McDonald's 365 Black Awards and autograph signings at the Convention Center inside...

Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Usher, and more are taking the stage at the Superdome as we type.  Y'all know each night is an ALL-NIGHT affair during Essence Fest Weekend.  But earlier on Friday, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Lance Gross, Terry Crews, and more hit the New Orleans Convention Center to sign autographs for their reality show fans, "Are We There Yet?," and "House of Payne" fans:

Keshia and Lance posed with co-star Demetria McKinney. And signed autographs for all their fans:

Lookin' fab.

TBS's stars Tamala and David Mann were there with the fineness that is Lamman Rucker.

"Are We There Yet?" stars Terry Crews and Essence Atkins were there having some fun:

And Terry's wife Rebecca came over to sign some autographs for the fans of their reality show.

Garcelle Beauvais of "Franklin & Bash" was on hand as well:

Fab times.

Also at the Convention Center today, Mary J. Blige and Angela Bassett were on hand for the McDonald's 365 Black Awards.  McDonalds honors 5 amazing African-Americans who are doing amazing things for the black community.  This year, the honorees were Ruby Dee, Mary J, Cathy Hughes, Benjamin Jealous, Hank Thomas:

The Awards opened with co-host Angela revealing that the "Waiting To Exhale 2" script is due in this month.  Of course, she's set to star in the sequel and Terry McMillan is finishing the script.

Loving this summery yellow dress.

And MJB looked pretty in black and grey cheetah print:

She revealed that she's set to shoot the "Nina Simone" movie this September---and she's working on "My Life 2" album right now.  Nice!

She had her hubby Kendu there too of course.

And legends Ruby Dee and Stephanie Mills snapped a pic together as well.  Nice!

Fabolous Gets Tatted Up With A Pic Of His Son Johan

Posted: 01 Jul 2011 04:12 PM PDT

While Fabolous was out in L.A. this week, he hit up tattoo artist Mister Cartoon for a permanent stamp of his admiration for his 3-year-old son, Johan.

Pics of his brand new tatt inside....

I'm rarely ever a fan of getting anyone's face tattoo'd on the body.  But I guess there's an element of sweetness involved with a dad adores his son so much he needs to see him on his arm everyday.  Even when the son becomes an adult--daddy will have an eternal stamp of his childhood.

So Fabolous got inked with a pic of his little Johan. The original is above.

Wonder what Emily B. thinks of this.  We feelin' it?

YBF's Top 11 Suggestions For Groupies & Jumpoffs On How To Survive The Lockouts

Posted: 01 Jul 2011 03:42 PM PDT

Groupies and career jumpoffs are weeping everywhere with the announcement of the NBA lockout for the 2012 season.  With us already facing an NFL lockout this fall, it's just getting to be a bit too much for the ladies who make their money and 15 minutes of fame off star athletes.

So what's a chick to do when she sees her meal ticket swirling down the professional sports drain?  Since the groupie nation has been so kind to us over the years slipping us private photos and WOW-worthy gossip about certain professional athletes, we've got a few suggestions for you.  Always here to help....

It's just jokes.  But if you're easily offended and not interested, skip this post.

11. Attend a charity event and PRAY Russell Simmons is there. You might just get "chose" that month.

10. Get a real job where a paycheck stub is involved. We have a few "stylists" and "publicists" we can refer you to for further advice.

9. Try out a new sport where there is less competition. Become a Volleyball groupie or Olympic Swimmer groupie. Don't sleep on the "other" money.

8. Get to your closest computer, iPad, phone, or camera and leak some naked pictures. It has worked for your predecessors.

7. Contact Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and/or Gloria Allred to see if they can help you because you have been "wronged."

6. Start a Former Groupie Support Group (for those who need help letting go).

5. Sleep with Commissioners David Stern and/or Roger Goodell to end the lockout. Don't act as if you all of a sudden care about a wedding ring....

4. Email/Contact Katt Williams to see if he's looking for recruits.

3. Finally go get that "checkup" at the clinic.

2. Make a cameo on "Single Ladies".... their standards for extras and walk-ons are "doable."

1. Ask Fantasia how to snag a married hottie who may not have enough cash for YOU...but his family discount on his phone plan is SERIOUS.  Just to hold you and your finances over for a bit....

*BONUS that could help our country as a whole*: Read to your children (or teach your NBA player to read).

Good luck in the off season!

SPORTS: Michael Vick RE-SIGNS With NIKE + Is Shannon Brown Opting To Leave The LA Lakers?

Posted: 01 Jul 2011 01:58 PM PDT

Four years ago, Michael Vick was one of the most hated men in America after he pleaded guilty to federal charges of dogfighting.  But after serving his time, NIKE is ready to offer him some redemption and has resigned him as a spokesman.

Get the deets inside and find out about the big shake-up at the LA Lakers that may ship Shannon Brown and wife Monica out of Los Angeles.

Has America forgiven Michael Vick for being convicted of dogfighting?  According to sports giant NIKE, just maybe....

NIKE is back in business with Michael Vick after abruptly dropping him from their lineup after his doggie bustup with the feds.

Mike's agent Joe Segal released a statement saying,

“Mike has had a great relationship with Nike and is excited to be part of the Nike team again.”

Vick’s longtime agent Joel Segal told CNBC that “Michael is excited to have a long-term and strong relationship with Nike.”

The deal was done by Chicago-based attorney Andrew Stroth.

NIKE spokesman Derek Kent also had this to say,

“Michael acknowledges his past mistakes.  We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field.”

It's nice to see the advertising world giving Michael a second chance at making more money than most of us will ever see.  THIS is how you make a comeback.

In other news:

Shannon Brown has opted out of the final year of his contract with the LA Lakers, making him a free agent

But Lakers fans should not put those old jerseys on Ebay just yet, as Shannon opted out of his last contract but then resigned to the LA Laker a few years ago.  So maybe its a tactic for more money....or time on the court.

In a statement, Shannon recently said

"I haven't ruled out the Lakers," said Brown. "I don't know if they will rule me out. I'm staying open."

So I guess his free agent status isn't cut and dry....we will see how this plays out.  Monica better get in all the dinners with her new besties the Kardashian-Odoms that she can....

Bow Wow Lashes Out About His Career & The Industry...Again

Posted: 01 Jul 2011 11:54 AM PDT

Bow Wow is no stranger to venting his frustrations with the industry and music labels via Twitter.  And today is no different.  After going off on blogs who lied about "his daughter's" alleged pic on the net, he popped off today about rappers not getting their due and the brainwashing that goes on with radio stations and award shows like the BET Awards.

His venting session inside....

The Cash Money rapper took to twitter today to explain to his followers why he feels the industry is a crock of s***.  Yes, we already know this is all a business and only certain artists will get play based on various and many times irrelevant factors.  So Bow went off about it today:

And he closed out with, "This is real.  'Remember every business has a lil corruption to it' Remember that."

A few of of these tweets have been erased, but there you have it.  Your thoughts?

Guess How Much It Costs For Pop Stars Like Rihanna To Put Out 1 SINGLE...

Posted: 01 Jul 2011 09:39 AM PDT

Ever fallen in love with a song ONLY because you heard it over and over again on the radio and the video was always on repeat?

If your answer is yes, that's not an accident.  Record executives know you are more likely to buy a song if you hear if you are bombarded with it so they pay top dollar to make that happen.  So if you want to find out the ridic amount of mula it takes to get enough record spins to make a #1 hit, and a TRUE inside look into the business of pop stardom, read on.....

There's a very specific formula used to make hits like Rihanna's "What's My Name" and Kelly Rowland's "Motivation."

NPR just released how much it REALLY costs to make a record (they researched Rihanna in particular)...and the expenses reach far beyond the artists and musicians on the track.  No wonder these artists make no money off selling the actual music.

NPR recently published a very interesting article for music lovers that shows the amount of money, market research and advertising it takes to take a simply melody or track from the pen of writer to the top of the charts. And folks like Rihanna, Gaga, Selena Gomez, and more pay over a million (via their label and own pockets) in cash just for one hit.

Here's the break down: A lot of money is spent upfront. Companies often hire songwriters and proven hit makers to attend a writing camp, which is usually a cushy situation where writers are pampered in a studio while they attempt to write hits.  At this point you are paying writers and music producers to work together for a potential track and this could cost you up to $20,000.

But if you are a "pop star" it costs a lot more. In fact, record exec Ray Daniels said JUST the writing camp for Rihanna's LOUD album "had to cost at least 200 grand," Daniels said.

"It was at least forty guys out there. I was shocked at how much money they were spending! But, guess what? They got the whole album out of that one camp."

Then the artist, like Kelly Rowland, is paid to come to the studio and perform the song.  But first the company has to make her want to "feel" like singing.  So the artist is given whatever they need from candles to food to alcohol and "props" to get into the mood.  Then there is a producer for the vocals, and an engineer to mix the track.  At this point, you might be up to $100K...and that's only if you didn't have to pay Nicki Minaj $50K to hop on the track too.

But the big bucks come into the song roll out.  Though some people, like Soulja Boy, have been able to get hits based on independent internet promotion alone (VERY smart move), the average artist has to go "old-school" and kiss the ass of radio and tv executives. This involves taking execs out on fancy dinners, developing a marketing strategy for the song and its audience, paying for the artist to travel and promote the song and doing tons of favors.

THEN....they have to get the track on the air...and it may still turn out to be a flop.

That process alone could cost you up to a MILLION bucks...

So the next time you wonder why an artist gets pissy they sell only a small amount of records (e.g. Ciara), or why pure talents like Raheem DaVaughn and Leela James are constantly drowned out, remember that the label has to actually WANT to invest in superstars. It's not just based on talent or a pretty melody alone.  And real talent is hard to come by in this industry these days.

This biz aint for the weary.  Only for those lucky enough to get record execs to give a damn....
