Aretha Franklin wants Halle Berry to play her in a bio-pic

Aretha Franklin announced a few days ago that she wanted Halle Berry to play her in a newly announced bio-pic that will be made about Aretha's life, from her childhood to her fame and success in the 1960s, and what will probably be her continuing success from the 1970s until present day. I don't know, though, they could just end it in the 1970s, Aretha's pinnacle. Now… I'm not saying there is NO resemblance between Halle and Aretha. There is. But it's awfully convenient that Aretha wants the gorgeous Oscar-winning Halle to play her, right? When, honestly, there's another beautiful Oscar-winner who would do gangbusters in the role too - Jennifer Hudson. Right?

Aretha Franklin wants Halle Berry to show her some R-E-S-P-E-C-T and sign on to portray a younger version of the Queen of Soul in an upcoming biopic. The 68-year-old singing legend sent out a press release this week revealing her choices for Hollywood stars to play top roles in a planned film about her life and career.

Besides Berry, Franklin says she wants another Academy Award winner – Denzel Washington – to play her father, the late C.L. Franklin, a prominent Baptist minister and civil rights leader in Detroit. Her wish list also includes Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard as Motown star Smokey Robinson.

The movie, for which Franklin says she’ll be reviewing the script next week, will be based on her autobiography, “Aretha: From These Roots,” a best-seller a decade ago.

Messages seeking comment were left by The Associated Press on Friday for representatives of Berry, Washington and Howard.

In her release, Franklin says the actors in question are “enthusiastic about the project and have agreed to take on these roles, subject to further negotiation.”

The statement says Washington, for one, “was very interested in the role,” and Franklin “also had a very positive response from her in-person conversations with Terrence Howard and others.”

Franklin is one of the most honored musicians in American history, having won numerous Grammys, including a lifetime achievement award; the National Medal of Arts; the Presidential Medal of Freedom and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

[From The Huffington Post]

Denzel is a fine choice, and Terrence Howard… well, I think that man is strange, unprofessional douche, but whatever. Wonderful actor, but he seems like he sucks as a person. Halle would be fine in the role, but you've got to think that J.Hud is being seriously considered, right? But what do I know? In my life story, they would cast Mindy Kaling. No disrespect to Mindy at all (I do love her), but in our own minds, aren't we always played by someone like Angelina or Charlize? Why not?

Zac Efron tries a bearded look (not Vanessa), plus other hotties

Zac Efron is making headlines this weekend because he debuted a completely new, rather adult look at the Deauville Film Festival, where he's promoting Charlie St. Cloud. The beard is very nice - I didn't think Zac had enough testosterone to grow a substantial beard like that, but good for him. I'm saying "substantial" to be nice to the kid - I don't think he's capable of having a filled-out beard, but this little "extended goatee" is nice. And it does make him look much, much older. Tom Cruise is probably weeping right now - his pretty little motorcycle buddy is all grown up.

There have been some other sightings of hot(ter) guys this weekend too - especially at the Toronto Film festival, where it looks like it's hot guy central. My favorite? James McAvoy, clean-shaven and baby-faced and so, so pretty… there's a special appearance by Robert Redford too!

Clive Owen has been all over Venice and Toronto the past few days, and there are so many hot photos of him. Praise the Lord. These are just a few:

Jennifer Lopez looked like puffy-shirted hell & other fashion disasters

There are twenty million new photos of big stars from weekend events, so I thought I'd just try to gather up some of the highlights in one big fashion post. And who better to headline than Jennifer Lopez, looking like ten kinds of hell? This is Jennifer launching her new perfume (groan) "Love and Glamour" on Friday night, at an event for Fashion's Night Out. I mean… if Jennifer phoning it in? Or does she think this looks good? Is she just having one of those bloated days (I can commiserate, I'm PMSing too) and she just didn't want to wear something tight? There are other ways to go loose and comfortable without looking like a 50-year-old cockatil waitress doing a gig as "ye olde prostitute" at a Renaissance fair. Beyond the ugly dress, her hair and makeup look terrible too. J.Lo, pull it together!

YIKES.

Okay, other photos - here's Megan Fox at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), premiering Passion Play (that one she did with Mickey Rourke). I don't hate Megan's dress at all, I just think it's slightly boring, but nice on her. Her Botoxy Cat-face on the other hand… yikes. Also: Fox's husband Brian Austin Green walked the red carpet with her! They rarely do that, so it was nice. The looked sweet together. Oh, sh-t, and Bill Murrary was there too!

Marion Cotillard looking effortless and chic at TIFF. I’m not crazy about the booties, but she’s one of the few that works them. The dude on the right is her lover.

Halle Berry at Fashion’s Night Out. Her clothes aren’t a problem - I love the way she makes a suit so sexy. But her face…? Botox? It looks tweaked to me.

Sarah Jessica Parker did two looks for Fashion's Night Out on Friday - both were okay. SJP looks like she's gained a little weight though, and it looks great on her.

UPDATE: Oooh, I wanted to add Blake Lively & Jennifer Garner! They were both at The Town premiere at TIFF. Drama? I have no idea. But Garner & Affleck were NOT photographed together, and neither were Lively & Affleck. Oh, I’m sure there’s a story. By the way, I dislike both of their dresses, but both are styled well, Garner especially. I love her hair color.

Are Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth back together?

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 06:49 AM PDT

fp_5712219_cyrus_miley_riv_091110

A few weeks ago, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth officially broke up. Liam's rep confirmed as much to Gossip Cop, and there were a few days in which Liam's "side" and Miley's "side" vied to tell their breakup story to the press - either Miley dumped Liam over fears (or knowledge) of Liam's cheating, or Liam dumped Miley because she's crazy and he was tired of being with such a high-profile girl. Since their split, Miley has been living it up, looking mysteriously puffy, waxy and Botoxy in NYC, then going clubbing in Paris. Meanwhile, Liam seems to be kind of quiet, although there were some paparazzi photos of him several days ago where it looked like Liam pap'd himself.

Anyway, Miley and Liam were spotted out together yesterday, Saturday, September 11th. Love amongst the ruins? Eh. Fame Pictures notes that Miley and Liam seemed "on again" - but I'm really hoping that this is just The Last Conversation, you know? The one where they talk about their feelings and there are tears and accusations, and maybe some goodbye sex, and then more tears and Liam gathers up all of his crap from Miley's house and as she hears him shut the door, she puts on Coldplay, lights a candle and curls up in their sex sheets. Sob.

Of course, they could just be back together. They're so young! I wasn't thinking that they would do this on-again-off-again bullsh-t, but they might. Who knows?
